My first visit to Dr. Thomas was, honestly, the best vet experience I have ever had. He is caring, knowledgeable, and took the time to make sure I understood my cat's condition. I came to Midtown when my cat, Lilly, was having difficulty urinating. Dr. Thomas was extremely thorough in figuring out the cause. Even more impressive was his ability to walk me through the test results and how he came to his final diagnosis. The bad news was my Lilly had crystals in her bladder. The good news was Dr. Thomas put Lilly on special food to see if that would eliminate the crystals instead of jumping right into surgery. After a month on special food, Lilly is crystal free! Recently we had to bring in our daughter's cat whose tail was caught in an electric lounge chair. We had brought him to an overnight emergency room different vet who had immediately recommended amputation. Instead we had them bandage the tail and brought him to Dr. Thomas who was willing to work with us the next few weeks to see if the tail could be saved and thanks to his years of experience and knowledge that's exactly what happened. I went in on a Saturday morning for new Patient appointment w my 11 year old 3lbs dog that has been suffering from a really bad uncontrollable itch /rash that has been misdiagnosed few times now by other vets. She also had ear infection. Dr Thomas was amazing & very knowledgeable , he explained everything , treatments and why, and he was very sweet w my scared little Honey.    So it's only Monday & I see a difference in my Lil girl already  .   I'm so impressed I will be coming back with my other dog for her check up & shots . My 2 dogs have always had incredibly bad anxiety in other vet clinics. As we've been bringing them to Midtown for the past year, they have been noticeably more and more comfortable in a clinic setting. The front office staff always greets them and makes them feel welcomed, and are always down for a kiss or love from our fur babies. You can tell the employees in back genuinely care about the level of care given to the animals, and that Dr. Thomas has years of experience and knowledge and makes sure I understand and that I'm comfortable with any procedure necessary for the health of my pets. Needed a special test done for taking my cat overseas and checked around, Midtown was the least expensive option, other vets wanted to charge $400-500, but Midtown Vet was less than half that price and they added a free exam for a new client. Didn't feel as though they were up selling anything like my previous vet and I found Dr Thomas to be very kind, knowledgable and helpful. He even called me personally to let me know the lab results. Amazing..I picked up my parakeet after being knocked out for surgery. I expected to see a knocked out little bird in a box. There he was all bright and cheery sitting on a perch in his carrying cage. We just moved from out of state and were absolutely thrilled to find such a knowledgeable and kind vet for our two small dogs. Dr. Thomas quickly diagnosed allergies in our little guy and had him feeling better within 24 hours! We brought them back a few days later for a teeth cleaning and are so happy with the results and special attention they gave our pups. I have been taking my pets to Midtown for over 25 years and wouldn't consider changing. After returning from being out of town, I discovered that my senior dog was having trouble walking. I am very happy with Midtown Vet.  I have been taking my dog there for years.  The staff is always  friendly and nice. Dr. Thomas is very caring and always trying to save me money by avoiding unnecessary expensive tests if possible.   He bent over backwards to treat and cure my dog's eye infection after ANOTHER  local vet hospital (with a beautiful new facility) charged me an arm and a leg and and did not fix the problem. Have used them for over 30 years! Dr. Martin was a very caring, compassionate and wonderful veterinarian. Once he retired, it all went downhill fast. What use to be a warm and personal experience is more like a cattle drive, you feel like just a number. It seems the business is more about the money than it is about quality of care and the love of animals. Appointments are never on time, usually end up waiting 15 to 30 minutes past the appointment time only to be shuffled off into an examination room to wait yet once again. I paid for a slew of tests on one of my dogs, still have been waiting since March for a return call on the test results . . . I gave up and moved on. Read Less

Last week we had to put our dog down and Dr. Thomas and his staff helped us through this difficult day. We had taken our dog to a different vet due to a plan we had signed up for and had gotten horrible service so we went back to our original vet at midtown. Dr. Thomas diagnosed her properly right away. He didn't try to get us to do X-rays and tests to jack up our bill. If you are looking for a vet don't even hesitate to go anywhere else. Midtown is the best by far and the doctor and staff are the nicest most caring and professional people. They helped make one of the worst days of our lives a little better. Pros: + Knowledgeable doctors, very professional and capable+ Doctors who've worked in emergency pet medicine & can handle anything.+ On-site lab and state-of-the-art medical equipment.  + Clean facilities+ Convenient location, easy accessCons:- EXPENSIVE..they gotta pay for that state-of-the-art equipment after all  ;) Go in for a well-pet exam ($54) but can't get out the door after "recommended tests" for less than a couple hundred.... every time.- They push for tests that, while informative, are not "necessary" to make a diagnosis or treat.  "Just to be sure...If it were your child, wouldn't you want this?" (estimated hundreds of dollars of tests and hundreds more to treat a pet who really needed to be put down due to low quality-of-life prognosis.  Can't diagnose or set a broken leg on another pet without blood tests, etc ).- The guilt trip if you don't agree to the expensive tests because... it's a pet not my actual child.If you DO treat your pets like your children and have the unlimited funds to do so, they are definitely good vets who address pet issues with the intensive care humans expect in a hospital setting.  For the average working person, their thoroughness runs at a premium cost that is beyond what most of us can reasonably afford.  "Up-sell" is the philosophy. The staff are nice, but the doctor acts like he's getting kickbacks from the drug companies. On more than one occasion, he tried to talk me into buying expensive meds rather than ruling out cheaper options or treating symptoms. Glad I trusted my gut & tried things on my own (like diet change) before listening to his advice. I finally gave up when I had an emergency w/a pet & he didn't even bother to call me back. I took my beloved snaggle-toothed dog, Daisy,  to Dr Thomas after she was attacked by a coyote. We thought we lost her. She was so badly injured. She needed a blood transfusion and a lot of other things that involved tubes down her nose and one in her chest. His rapport with us was great and I felt that his heart was there with us when we thought we were going to lose her. I've read the negative reviews and I just can't believe them. I have had several dogs in my life so I am not new to the vet world. I know what fair pricing is. It's pet medicine. It will cost you to keep your pet healthy (in my case, alive). My dog had mites. If youve ever had a dog with mites, you know how horrible it can be. My dog was miserable. She chewed at her paws and didn't want to do anything. She had a hard time getting around and didn't want to play with my other two dogs. I finally took her in and Dr Thomas diagnosed it right away (correct diagnosis) and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg (not irritating or unreasonable in cost). Read Less

I am giving this establishment one star since Yelp does not allow negative stars.  We took our cat to this vet when she was clearly in alot of discomfort.  The diagnosis was straightforward, but the vet wanted to set up a second appointment for an extremely costly surgical procedure days later to the tune of 900$.  We went home and found another vet online for a second opinion.  The other vet performed the procedure on the spot for about 30$ total.  I was not only astounded at how easy it was, but that a vet who has supposedly committed themselves to helping animals would leave an animal in pain for several days unnecessarily just to make hundreds more dollars out of the pet owner is unconscionable.  Shame on you midtown, I'm thoroughly disgusted.Response to comments below :The second veterinarian diagnosed the cat's SINGLE rotten tooth very quickly and pulled it within seconds because it was so badly decayed.  It was not a "low cost clinic" as was stated below, but a respected vet in a neighboring town.  He only charged 30$ for the office visit which was, incidentally, full of clients with their pets unlike your office.  The initial charge for the first visit at your office was 300$ with a second visit which was estimated to be 700-900$ "depending on what was wrong".  One can safely assume that if the cat had been brought back, enough "problems" would have been found to incur the full amount most likely.  This would have totaled 1000$ - 1200$. It has been some months since the procedure, and the "above mentioned cat" has been doing very well.  After this experience, its pretty obvious why you dislike this site and its ability to empower the consumer to share and compare their experiences.  -SW Read Less

Do not take your animal here if you care about them or your bank account. My cat had a problem with her mouth. I took her in and the vet said she needed surgery to remove her tooth and it would cost me $800. He gave her an antibiotic shot and some oral antibiotic. I was told to come back in 3 days for surgery. Over the weekend I did some research and decided to get a second opinion. I went to a vet in Camarillo who had glowing reviews on yelp. He looked at her tooth and pulled it out on the spot. It was so rotted that it just came right out without any pain to my kitty. He was gentle with my cat and it only cost me $15. This was a big relief since the midtown vet had already charged me $250 for the shots and antibiotic and wanted to squeeze another $800 dollars out of me. Read Less

I was irritated when I confronted the vet here about my dog being misdiagnosed. Granted neither him or the other vet I went to had any clue what was wrong! After three months I have found out what is wrong with my dog no thanks to this vet or camino vet in Thousand Oaks!The thing that pissed me off the most was the fact that this so called doctor compared a medical profession to a sales job, specifically mine! Not sure about all the other negative reviews here, but now I see that all the positive reviews have been 'filtered';  so maybe mine will end up there too.These guys have been great with my pets for over 10 years.  The doctors (Martin and Thomas) always return phone calls;  My dog was sick last year and after her initial appointment I spoke to Dr Thomas every day for about a week.  In fact on more than one occasion I have been called out of the blue by one of the doctors (sometimes even outside of business hours) to see how my sick pet was doing.Yes they can be pricey, but they have always been willing to suggest alternatives for me before when I expressed concern about the price of tests or procedures.  I suggest you ask what something is going to cost before agreeing to it. The old Dr. here used to be very cold, but the two vets now (Dr. Thomas and Dr. Martin) are both very nice and caring.  They are not the cheapest out there, but they do have some of the newer technology, and the vet techs are all very nice and helpful.  My dogs, cat, and bird have had many visits, a few surgeries and cleanings there and have all done well.  Also very good at following up quickly about test results and checking up on pets after discharge.  All in all, a good vet for all types of animals. My dog had a bladder infection, she needed some antibiotics and to see how that worked but the vets told me i should get TWO ultrsounds to make sure. everything was fine and when i got to the cashier it was almost $700. no warning beforehand!i had been told these vets where very traditional and you could get hooked for a lot more money than with other vets, but this is my proof.also when i took a rescue dog there to look him over the vet barely glanced at his teeth saying they looked ok to him, and it was i, the client who had to pull the lips back a little father and show him the totally stinking rotten teeth he had so casually overlooked.not going back. i've spent over $800 this year just trying to help a couple of rescue dogs and the staff and vets are really not interested enough in the animals to warrant the cost.
