Dr. Whitaker kept my cat alive for 21 years with knowledge and compassion. Brought my Shitzu back to health after another vet over treated her with steroids. Now he keeps my King Charles Cavalier healthy as she lives with her enlarged heart. It's hard when you love your animals so much to trust someone with their life. Expensive... $18 for nail trim, $80 for the visit, $120 for a 3 in 1 monthly heartworm and flea edibles and more... shots are around $60. Walked out there with -$420 when I found out I can go to petco or other low price clinics for the same services. ignoring the first wish of customers and casually offering exam for pets which I do not ask. The price is way far beyond my expecting and most of them are not in my plan and without telling me. Frankly, I am shocked that this Animal Hospital doesn't have higher reviews.Here is my dog saga.I am dog sitting my colleague's beagle for two weeks. In the two weeks we have had her, she has peed on our floor almost once an hour. It has been pretty difficult, to say the least. The problem is, her owner is mainly inaccessible, out of town, and didn't leave us with much information (lesson learned on everyone's part). We were having trouble finding a vet that would take her without vaccination history, and we felt at a loss! This dog was clearly struggling, and we just wanted to help her out.Now, I made an appointment at another veterinary clinic on the Newport Beach peninsula, but they moved my appointment without telling me, which I found annoying and beyond unprofessional. Not wanting to give them my business, I made an appointment with a different vet and moved on with my day.Well, the morning of the appointment comes, and my boyfriend took the dog to NHAH. Because I am careless, I had told him the wrong vet! Not only did the vet at NHAH see him and the dog almost immediately, they understood the difficult situation we were in as dog lovers but not the owner of this particular dog. They were transparent about pricing (another sticky area we were in, given we didn't anticipate the medical expenses of another dog). They did a check up and ran tests, and sent my boyfriend on their way.Well, I wasn't satisifed with the answer that was relayed to me because we still have two weeks but no way to stop the peeing! I called the facility, and Lauren at the front desk was amazing. She said the vet would call me. I then annoyingly called back to say I'd rather they call the owner, and the woman I spoke with, Meghan, was also very helpful and friendly.The vet is going to call my friend, and I just think that is amazing customer/patient service. I took my dog to this vet for vaccinations, but their effort, friendliness, and professionalism today has turned me into a loyal customer, despite that this vet is definitely not the closest to my apartment. Dr. Whitiker and his staff displayed so much empathy and compassion with Domino... and we will forever be indebted. Dr. Whitiker also saved Dominos life. Domino is our 10 year old American Bulldog/Pitt mix. He is getting old and had some complications (he is a rescue). We were horrified at the thought of losing him. Newport Hills Animal hospital has our complete trust. Our cat Peaches lived to be 20. Our cat Sweetums had the best care. She nicked my husband's hand when he gave her a pill and was sent to Hoag and admitted for blood poising. The Dr's and staff sent him flowers and a note stating,"Sweetums didn't mean it" we've been seeing Dr. Lyle for over 20 years. Our Pug dog CC had horrible allergies and they worked with us to make her comfortable! She had CA for 3 years and they didn't do anything that wasn't needed. She was comfortable and lived a happy life to 15  Dr. Bruce Whitaker is GREAT as well and always voices his concerns about side effects of meds and the best way to approach our pets health. We have received beautiful flowers and hand written notes when a pet passes. Not to mention they send a donation with our pets name to organizations the help animals & the continued learning to treat them better.The staff is wonderful & I know my 2 dogs are in good hands.Dr. Wood now works there and she is gentle and kind.Pets cost money. I brought my 13 year old dog in because there was blood in her urine. This is the second time in a couple of months... The first time they told me it was a UTI and gave her antibiotics and sent us on our way. Today the told me it may be bladder stones or a UTI and instead of just ruling out the UTI, they took the X-rays   They did NOT tell me how much they were going to cost. Our dog Onyx was in Dr. Whitaker's care for 7 years. Unfortunately she had to be euthanized due to old age. Dr. Whitaker's compassion and patience with our family was unparalleled. Not just for a vet but for a professional in any industry. He gave us several options, drew from personal experience and let us make a decision that was not driven by monetary gains. I have been to several vets in So Cal over the past 20 years. He is undoubtedly the best. I would avoid this place at all costs, especially if you have a bulldog. Dr. Whitaker is not a bulldog expert -he recommends completely unnecessary procedures which do not fix the underlying problem. The prices are outrageous and they are downright dishonest when it comes to diagnosis. If you want an actual vet who knows bulldogs go to Dr. Butchko who us in Riverside or Dr. Kraemer located in Orange. These vets actually try and solve the problem (or identify the root cause) as opposed to forcing procedures on you that do not solve anything. Whitaker is so quick to recommend surgical procedures without actually thinking about the problem (e.g., inter-digital cyst removal etc.). The procedures get money in his pockets. Most dishonest person I have encountered in the veterinary industry and it is a shame that he has this reputation as a "bulldog expert", he is a scam. Read Less

I could not ask for anything more to have feel confident and secure that Dr. Whitaker had provided such good care and compassion for Ali'i and me. I trust her with my dogs and I feel like she does not over treat them while giving them the treatment they need. I brought my puppy here to get groomed. When I got him back he was crying in pain when I tried carrying him or touch him. Which leads me to believe that he was neglected and mistreated. He also limped around and cried in pain. I have no clue what happened while my puppy was getting groomed but I'm 100% sure I didn't drop him off like that. Never bringing my dog back. EVER. They lie to get you in, then try to bump costs and hit you with unnecessary fees, etc.  I was a customer for years. NOT anymore. The doctor especially is a poor excuse for a businessman. I adopted 2 beautiful kittens last December. A few weeks ago one of them started losing weight & not wanting to eat. When he didn't respond to even the freshest & tastiest food, I took him to a nearby vet. He did blood tests & told me he had FIP, a fatal feline infection. I stayed home and loved on him until it was evident he wasn't going to make it. I couldn't imagine saying goodbye with the vet I took him to, just didn't seem to care. A good friend referred me to Newport Hills Animal Hospital. I am so grateful to Dr Lyle for being the kindest & most gentle man ever. He made the whole experience peaceful & loving!  I have now found the perfect vet for my other animals! I took my feline baby Ruby here for what I suspected to be an eye infection. My boyfriend called for an appointment and I was able to get in the next day. The receptionists were attentive and I only had to wait less than 10 minutes to be seen. Dr. Lyle examined Ruby and gosh was he ever nice! He is a cat lover and a cat owner with excellent bed side manner. I throughly enjoyed speaking with him about my kitty, he was very knowledgeable and did not try to nickel and dime me with an unnecessary tests. He even called and left a message two days later to check on my now better kitty. The cost was not outrageous. Definitely recommend going here! Read Less

Great doctors, they know what they are doing, but ALWAYS ask what they will charge before you let them do ANYTHING, because you will be shocked at the prices. If you get your pet operated there, make sure you negotiate EXACTLY what you want done, or they will find something to do and charge you afterwards AND claim meds were not included in their horrific prices... anyway, everytime I go there they try to sell me tons of meds for my dog...
