On Saturday morning I noticed my 2yr old german shepherd salivating excessively. I checked his mouth and gums and didn't see anything that was suspect. He ate, drank water and did his business normally, but as the hours passed it seemed to worsen. I called my normal vet who has Saturday hours and his staff said it was considered an emergency, but was unable to see us. They recommended that I take him to an emergency animal hospital. Given that I lost my previous german shepherd to a spleen rupture, and the breed is predisposed to bloat, time was of the essence. I remembered my mechanic of over 20yrs and a neighbor rave about Dr. Smith, so I called, and despite me not being a regular client, they scheduled me for within the hour. The tech who greeted us upon arrival was very sweet, took a quick look at Cooper, decided that he wasn't in distress, so we sat while I filled out the paperwork. The gals at the front desk were very friendly and professional. We were seen before our appointment time. Dr. Smith was incredible! He examined Cooper, addressed all of my concerns, and when Cooper's x-rays were ready, he walked me through the anatomy and assured me that there were no blockages, twists, or other obvious problems. He said that the blood results would be available on Sunday and to keep a close watch on him. The symptoms slowly dissipated over the next 24 hours and as promised, he called on Sunday with the results, which thankfully, were normal. Best guess is an allergic reaction to an interaction with a bug. I could not have been more pleased with how we were treated by Dr. Smith and his staff. I plan to use this practice as my primary for Cooper and the two kitties going forward. They're open 7 days/week, parking is easy and the location is fairly close to my home. Read Less
