I originally gave 5 stars after my first visit. Today I changed to a new practice and this is why. I would schedule a vet tech appointment only to find out I was one of 6 all coming at the same time. Vet tech would ask front office who was first and she wouldn't know, half hour later my dog finally got a blood draw. Happened more than once. My dog has a medical condition where I have to keep his stress down. Called to get his nails clipped same time as blood draw and told they don't do that anymore, but could get a prescription for medication so I can take him to a groomer. Was paying $113 for in house electrolytes and they just raised to $128. Can't schedule vet tech appointments at beginning or end of their open hours so forced to take time off work. After a blood draw my dog limped for a week. Just went to a new clinic and couldn't be happier. Read Less

I'm sorry to give the poor review but feel it necessary to follow up to my previous where I gave a glowing review (and can't edit). I began visiting Country Vet when we moved from San Diego with our 9 month old lab / sheperd mix Dec. 2015. My first reaction was amazing, beautiful facility with caring vets however that was during my 'routine' visits for vaccinations and mild issues like ear infections. When things got serious, my perception changed and I'm writing this to hopefully help others during their crisis. What happened to my baby, we will never know for sure - it was most likely a brain tumor at only 2 1/2 years old. However, we had been taking him to Country vet for symptoms for about 6 months - looking back now and taking him to specialists we realize there were signs and symptoms unrecognized by County Vet.Had they been detected early, our outcome may have been different. Aside from the emotional trauma to our dog (and us) we spent more than $2,000 over 6 months for inconclusive diagnosis. What I've learned is that they should have referred us to a neurologist early on when something could have possibly been done and we would have listened. Instead (not knowing better ourselves and trusting CV) we kept going back. Our baby spent 3 days in a row being completely traumatized doing painful x-rays in excrutiating pain not being sedated. I've never had an experience with a vet that did not sedate a dog to do this, especially when he was sooooo upset and clearly in so much pain- it was our mistake to not demand it but again we completely trusted CV. I'm really disappointed in Country Vet (and heartbroken for my baby). On the plus side I must say that the vet techs and assistants were very, very kind and compassionate and the facility is great I would not write them off completely but if you have a serious emergency or issue not remedied, you may want to seek expert advice through a specialist sooner than later. I have been going to The Country Vet for nearly 14 years. My dog is now 15 and we are hoping for a few more years of a wonderful long life for her! I have been very pleased with the care she gets at this office. We've been treating her for kidney disease for quite a few years now. Dr. Jim has extensive knowledge with alternative medicine (Eastern Medicine...herbs/natural supplements) and I told him I wanted to explore and include anything he could suggest as part of her daily regime. I truly believe the combination of Eastern and Western medicine has helped to keep her as healthy as she is. People think she is still a puppy, except for her gray hair around her face and loss of hearing at this age. She even still races around the house in what we lovingly refer to as "growl runs". He is blunt and to the point, but at the same time a vet that has compassion for his patients and customers. There was a clerical error that i didn't even notice. The vet himself called and notified me that i would be credited. That is good business. 10 out of 10. I highly recommend this veterinarian to anyone who loves their pets. My dog has had a host of issues related to his elbows and/or paws, allergies, etc.  So we regularly see the vet.  We had been going to the same vet for nearly four years, but my recent move to Novato forced me to find another care provider.I chose Country Vet because it was near my house and received great reviews.  My dog (who is very nervous around human strangers and is muzzled for all visits) has never been happy to visit the vet.  And while he still is not particularly thrilled with his visits to Country Vet, I recognize that he is quicker to relax at Country Vet versus his other provider.  I credit the doctors (particularly Dr. Nick) for my dog's more relaxed behavior.  The doctors are confident (i.e. not nervous) and relaxed with my dog.  This makes it so much easier to handle vet visits! Today, my puppy split his nail, and his regular vet isn't open on Saturday. On a referral from my neighbor, I called The Country Vet and was seen within fifteen minutes!!!  I couldn't believe how nice everyone was, how clean the office, waiting area and exam room was.Dr. Winston was so nice and my pup loved him, he went right with the veterinarian without even looking back at me.  They took him to a back room, clipped off the split nail, and we were out the door and off to pick up his antibiotics at Rite Aid.  They don't even mind filling out insurance forms!!!  We loved our visit there - oh, and the sheep!!!  Adorable bonus!!! I breed Abyssinian cats and have shown them and placed them from California to Nice, France and Cape Town, South Africa.. This is, without question, the best clinic, the best medicine, and the best care that I've found in 35 years. Dr Codingtob is unique - The single most outstanding veterinarian with whom I've ever had the pleasure and the privilege of working - and Dr. Kat Malone is a close 2nd. I prefer to use Integrative medicine with my cats - Chinese herbals & homeopathy whenever possible - so these 2 are my usual choices, but Dr. Nick is also an excellent clinician. And something that is often over looked and under rated is the contribution that a 1st class front desk staff makes to the quality of care that a clinic delivers. I've used clinics in the past in which the doctors were excellent, but questions left at the front desk were never accurately conveyed to a doctor. The front desk at The Country Vet is a seamless part of the clear, accurate and compassionate care that my cats and I have both received here. We moved up to Marin last year and started taking our dog, an 11 year old Boxer, to The Country Vet and specifically to Dr. Tim Jones.  Our dog had been having recurring skin infections that were not responding to antibiotics or a change in diet (for possible allergies).  After seeing no improvement with these antibiotic treatments, we opted to do further testing, only to reveal that she had a rare form of cancer.  Dr. Tim Jones was our attending vet and his manner, empathy, and quality of care are simply the best there is.  He was thoughtful and thorough in his approach to providing options for my beloved dog.  Dr. Jones gave his honest opinions for treatment options always with the goal of keeping my dog as comfortable as possible with the best quality of life. During this difficult process, I always felt that Dr. Jones is an extremely capable vet and always gave his utmost attention to me and my dog.  When she became very sick and was clearly suffering, we scheduled a house call with Dr. Jones.  It was the most difficult and yet the best gift I feel we could have given our dog in her last days.  We have another 5 year old dog - and now we have a puppy as well - and I am so thankful to have met such a great vet in Dr. Jones whom we can trust for life! I am so impressed with how this place functions. Very professional front desk.  Very compassionate.  The few times I needed to get in short notice they get me in.    I have two very old dogs and they treat them so kindly.  Every medical recommendation has been just what my little ones needed.   I don't find their prices that much different than the other vet I was going to, and even if they were higher they are very, very worth it.Couldn't recommend them more!  Just awesome. We have been clients of The Country Vet since adopting our dog two years ago, and we have been extremely happy with our experience.  The staff is very knowledgeable, kind, and thorough.  We've been to this location for regular checkups and for a few visits when our dog was ill.  They took great care of him, gave us options with his care, and explained everything clearly so that we could make the best decisions possible.I recently scheduled a dental cleaning for my dog; his doctor, Tim Jones, called me after dropping him off to inform me that after a quick inspection, it didn't actually appear that he needed a cleaning yet.  This saved us quite a bit of money and saved my little guy the mini-trauma of having to get his teeth cleaned right now.  I am so grateful to have found a vet that we truly trust to make the best decisions for our dog and for us as his owners.  He could have easily just done the procedure quickly and charged us, but he took the time to call, discuss his recommendations with me, and let me decide.  We will be taking our pets here as long as they are in business!  Thank you, Dr. Tim Jones! Not only did I feel more secure but so did my dog. my Vet of 27 years is retiring and I have a special needs dog. So I put a great effort into investigating at least 7 different hospitals. There is nothing ordinary about The Country Vet. This place is really special. The hospital and the exam rooms and the waiting room are all spacious and full of light in addition to being clean and beautiful as well. I was looking for and found here a good balance of male/female energy among the techs and employees. I would highly recommend The Country vet and recommend watching the videos of the vets introducing themselves. To give you a little background, my girlfriend is a Registered Vet Tech for a specialty animal hospital, so when the check-ups come time, we know a little something about what needs to be done. I'm an administrator for a high caliber retirement home, so I may know a little bit about customer service and procedure.Suffice to say, we both have somewhat exacting standards for our healthcare and the care of our furry, four legged children.  I have to say, the Country Vet took those expectations and said "you know what? Let's exceed them a little."The front office staff was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.  They greeted me, by name, on my FIRST VISIT, knew exactly what I needed to do, and got me into a room asap.The medical support staff (it may say "technician", but they are nurses, just like for humans), were quick, gentle and caring.The doctor (Tim) was knowledgable and engaging. I felt immediately like this was a regular guy that I could relate to, not some stuffy doctor that just wanted to hustle me out.Overall, I have to say that the experience, from entry to bill paying was pleasant and worthwhile.To those reviews about $$$ - it is pricey, but you get what you pay for.  Just like you can go to the free clinic and more likely GET a disease than cure one, the same is true for your pet.  If you are concerned about price, look into a pet health insurance like Trupanion.  We have it, it's affordable, and it's a life saver when it comes to that final bill.  Overall, kudos to staff at The Country Vet.  You've earned another customer for life. Outstanding veterinary practice. The doctors are competent, thoughtful and caring as is their staff. I have worked in people healthcare for 25 years and although people are different, I can see the high standards they have in their clinic. They have cared for our animals for 3 years and I won't go anywhere else. But the beautiful bucolic setting and large staff come at a price. They are very expensive. The doctors and staff at the Country Vet are all extremely professional, intelligent, and kind - whether you are a pet or a person. And for my pets (and my family) the jewel in the crown has always been Dr. Kat. Dr. Kathleen Danielson (""Dr. Kat"") has been the primary veterinarian to all of our various four-legged children since she arrived at the Country Vet in 2006. She is, hands down, the best Vet that we have ever had. She is everything that you would want in a Vet - extremely knowledgeable, up to date on the latest veterinary science and technology, and extraordinarily compassionate. But the qualities that really set her apart are her tireless commitment to the welfare her patients, her brillance, the ability to think on her feet to come up with creative, effective solutions which save lives, and her apparent Doolittle-like connection with animals. She is so kind and caring with our pets and with us - for this we all love her. And she always works so hard to save pets that other Vets would have given up on - for this we all trust her. The Country Vet is hands down the nicest veterinary clinic I have ever been into. The landscaping is beautiful and quite serene - running water everywhere. The office seems like a friend's living room - completely ""non-hospital-like"", clean and free of smells. The entire staff is full of smiles - extremely welcoming and compassionate. It's obvious that each and every person in this clinic loves their job. From my very first phone call to my most recent visit, they continue to amaze me. My dog can't get into the office fast enough - she practically drags me in! (they like to give her treats). Dr Codington did a womderful job using chinese herbs and acupuncture on my 11 years dog who couldn't run anymore due to hip pain.
