When I moved to Oakland three years ago, I spent a while evaluating yelp reviews for various vets before choosing Claremont. Thus far, I haven't regretted it. There are several vets and as is the case in any clinic setting, some doctors are better than others. That said, the vets at Claremont are basically oscillating between 4-5 stars. If you have a preferred vet, you're able to make appointments with them exclusively. But, it's really nice to also have the option to see anyone if the need arises. Dr. Leggieri is probably the best veterinarian I have ever been to. She knows what she's talking about and will admit when she's uncertain about something. She managed to negate a prior vet's diagnosis within the first five minutes of meeting my cat, which was a godsend since he can now be treated correctly. She has an unusual ability to connect with and calm animals, in a way I wish more veterinarians possessed. When interacting with the animals, she's almost like a kindergarten teacher, energy wise. If she were to leave Claremont, I would want to transfer to her new clinic. Dr. Frizell is also fantastic. He seems like Dumbledore, knowledge wise. I had adopted a sweet dog from OAS and brought her in for her first check-up, discussing how she had shown some major aggression towards people other than myself. While meeting with us, he asked why I wanted a dog. After telling me that she was highly aggressive and owner possessive, he suggested that I return her. "You want a dog you can walk down the street and take to the park, not a dog that tries to attack everyone who comes near you." My family owns/operates a large animal rescue and sanctuary, so I had always been of the belief that it was awful to return an animal without trying your hardest. However, after a lot of thought, I realized he was absolutely right and that was why I was so offended. I didn't have the time or energy to devote to rehabilitating a seriously aggressive dog. I will always be grateful he told it to me as he saw it, versus seeing us and saying nothing. He chose the harder route, one that most vets wouldn't take. The office/reception staff are hilarious and really kind. They're incredibly helpful and attentive. Rakhel gives me Hershey's kisses regularly, particularly post-election, and always give my dog plenty of biscuits. She and Jenny are fun to watch/listen to while you're waiting. The only times I've seen any of the staff be firm or curt with any client was well deserved - don't double park, don't be upset if there's not an appointment available when you drop-in, don't expect instant "service" when there are other people waiting.
