Never been to a place for physical therapy for your pet. The people are highly trained and handle your pet as of it was there own. WOW Dr Richter is AMAZING I went to see him last week with my very elderly sweet dog who was named Tallulah... she had a herniated or ruptured disc and Dr Richter did acupuncture on her, well Poor Tallualh was too old and the ruptured or herniated disc was too much for her and she was put to sleep by Dr Richter. The vet office looks like a living room in a home its lovely, we were gently greeted, we went into a nice room and I was offered tea or water, Dr Richter explained what was going to happen over the phone I chose to see her being sedated but not die, they took care of everything for me and gave me a bouquet of flowers when I left..It was so gentle, so nice and so peaceful and really really really  hard but Dr Ritcter and his staff made it as easy as it could be. Dr DiMascio is just amazing!  My older dog ruptured the ligament in his knee (equivalent to our ACL) after zooming around the house after he got a bath.  He's a senior and isn't very actively any longer (except after his bath).  I met with the surgeon (who was great) who recommended surgical repair but I wanted a second opinion given my dog's age and activity level.  I met with Dr DiMascio and she listened to my concerns and examined my dog's knee and took a video of him walking.  After discussions she had with the surgeon, they both recommended surgery (his knee showed a tremendous amount of instability).  Surgery went well but my dog didn't want to bend his knee much after.  The surgeon recommended rehab with Dr DiMascio and I scheduled an appt.  She was thorough and took plenty of time during our visit (taking my dog into the gym to see his gait under different conditions).  She put together a plan and he had rehab for 4 weeks (various exercises and water treadmill exercise).  His progress was significant after each session.  The tech was great and called Dr DiMascio in when she saw things that seemed unusual (everything was OK).  At the end of the 4 weeks, we met with Dr DiMascio for a follow up. She was really pleased with the results of the rehab (I was ecstatic!).  My dog has also always had issues with his hips (his gait has been a bit funny -- I adopted him when he was already a senior).  One of my friends had used acupuncture with her dog and raved about it so I talked to Dr DiMascio about it. She thought it could be beneficial.  We've been going for about 4 weeks now.  Dr DiMascio is so very knowledgable, thorough, and compassionate.  My dog would not be as well as he is right now without her! I don't know what I would have done without Holistic Vet and the excellent rehab services they offer. My miniature poodle slipped a disc, was paralyzed, underwent emergency back surgery, and then needed rehab. Even with residual nerve damage from the injury, thanks to the excellent rehab support at Holistic, she is able to walk, swim, and completely enjoy life and her doginess. My Chihuahua had bilateral repair of her luxating patellea and it was recommended that she receive physical therapy afterward. She had an initial assessment with Dr. Mascio, the rehab vet, and then she had several sessions with the physical therapists. Everyone was terrific. They had a plan for the therapy and they worked to gradually increase the strength and flexibility in her legs. She walked in the water treadmill and did other exercises. Everyone was so sweet when working with her. She was totally comfortable being there. At the 8 week mark, she was x-rayed by the surgeon and her knees were perfect! Now she's running all over the place like a mad woman...so...success! Everyone at Holistic Veterinary Care is terrific. I've only taken my dog to Holistic Vet Care once, but my experience was very good. The staff was welcoming and Dr. Richter seemed informed on holistic and alternative treatments and was very easy to talk to. My dog has a chronic condition that requires ongoing medication and so I wanted to look at all my non-pharma options, and also, optimize his diet. My Yorkie has a congenital knee problem and he goes for water treadmill therapy.  His therapists are wonderful!!!! The Vet is great as well.  She knows Yorkie's and their personalities!My only suggestion is that they need sone higher chairs to sit in for mom.  I have bad knees and back . Read Less

About 7 months ago I noticed that my 9 year-old Miniature Pinscher (Bijou) seemed to be losing feeling in her back legs. While she was still able to walk, it was clear something was wrong. I brought her into my regular vet on an emergency visit and they said that if things got any worse, I would need to call them right away to get in with a specialist and move forward with a VERY expensive spinal surgery (anywhere from $6,000 - $10,000). The recovery process would be long and they couldn't guarantee it would be successful. The next day, it got worse. She no longer had feeling in her back legs and I had to make a make-shift sling so she could go potty without falling over. Because acupuncture was recommended by my vet, I went to Holistic Veterinary care that same day to see if Bijou was a candidate. We met with Dr. Richter first and he was great. He told me that she still had "deep pain" (she could feel a pinch between her toenails and still could pee/poo) and he laid out all of my options, not just surgery. I opted for the holistic route and moved forward with sessions in the hyperbaric chamber, acupuncture, and physical therapy. We also changed her diet to raw food. This all demanded a lot of my time and it wasn't cheap, but it has been WAY CHEAPER than surgery and did I forget to mention that Bijou is NOW WALKING!!! We started seeing real results about a month into her sessions and it just kept getting better and better. All of my friends and family who have seen how far she has come say it's a miracle. That hyperbaric chamber is the real deal and we always notice a difference after Bijou has had her acupuncture, too.I also need to say that the staff here is so sweet. The front desk has the best customer service skills and they remember everything. Bijou is kind of an a**hole and they don't make me feel like horrible dog owner when she barks at other dogs or acts out. Kaylah (who Bijou is still going to for maintenance) is an amazing acupuncturist and has such a maternal, loving energy. Although Bijou only went to physical therapy a few times, I really felt we got a lot out of our sessions. The whole team at HVC and Dr. Richter helped us so much. Our little girl June suffered an anesthesia insult after surgery at another clinic. We started aggressive therapy both medical and physical. At the end of the first week we took June to Dr.Richter.  We started June in the hyperbaric chamber, She walked on day 14. There is no doubt in my mind that the hyperbaric chamber and Dr. Richter's clarity helped to bring June through. If your wondering should I use the chamber...the answer is yes. It brought June back to us. If you have a medical issue that is problematical go ask Dr. Richter. His view point seems to encompass many modalities. I use to go to this place years ago when my westie was first diagnosed with addisons. I was a loyal customer and use to recommend people to this place. However there were two incidents that have made me reconsider this place and go elsewhere. The first was when my dog had to go in for a percorten injection(routine for a dog with Addison's disease). I gave my westie to them as usual and when she returned something was off. As I was paying I noticed she was struggling to stay awake. Well they took me and her to the back and it turns out they gave my dog a sedative instead of her needed medication! The second was when I asked if they could show me how to do my westies injection at home. I talked to other owners of dogs with this disease and many do it themselves. When I asked they refused and said that I couldn't do it and I had to come back to them. This was a $90 injection a month. I went to a second vet who happily showed me and it's been almost 3 years now I've been injecting her myself! The reason they have three stars and not one is because they saved my westies life and reacted extremely professionally in an emergency. Read Less

We took our Chloe to Holistic for a very debilitating neurological disease that has no cure. Over the course of 2+ years she received not only physical therapy (both water and land based exercises) to keep her as mobile and active as she could be for as long as possible but also an immense amount of love while she was there. They helped us get through some digestive issues by recommending herbs to try and ultimately recommending an allergy test which identified some significant food allergies. Went in as I was in the neighborhood. Had read the reviews and did some background work. It was refreshing to see a light, bright office that does not smell. There was plenty of seating and the clients )owners and pups) looked happy. The front office assistant was friendly and very helpful. As the owner of two Coton du Tulear's I'm looking for a good vet. Most vets on both the east and west coast have no experience with the breed. We've had Shih Tzu's, a Westie and a Pom in our family. They had no dietary problems. They lived with us for 16+, 7+, and 9+ years respectively. Each passed from unrelated stomach issues. My two pups are 2 years old and have sensitive stomachs. And it's been that way since they arrived from the breeder. They came from a litter of 5 and it seems my two are the only ones with sensitive stomachs. My home is quiet and peaceful. The cleaners we use are natural. The pups are the sweetest, affectionate and most playful twosome I've ever owned. My current vet has thrown up her hands as to what to do and was overheard bashing the breed to another client. Hoping this practice is the remedy to an ongoing situation. ;-)! Read Less

I like to think of myself as a good pet parent. Was diligent about check ups and dental cleanings at Broadway pet hospital for years and really liked the care my cats got there. As my Leo cat got older and my Oby was looking at a lifetime on steroids for inflammatory bowel disease, a drug that causes all kinds of problems, I decided to get a second opinion. Leo was getting old and was really thin and had a weird bald patch on his belly my regular vet didn't seem to worry about. I saw Dr. Richter at holistic vet care. I only brought in Leo to ask about the bald belly. We spent an hour talking. He was very patient and sweet with Leo and I felt very listened to. I brought in Oby the next day. Everyone thought I was a weirdo for putting my cats on fish oil and probiotics, but I'm seeing a noticeable difference every day. Leo's bald spot is growing back, and he's back to a healthy weight. Oby is closer to getting off the steroid and no signs of illness, fingers crossed. Office staff is always lovely and there's usually a sweet dog hanging out behind the counter. Read Less

Oh my goodness!!! I was heart broken because my 8 yr old Labradoodle "Lola" got a hyperextension injury when I took her on a vacation. I've been frantically trying to address the issue. On a moments notice Dr. Dana Whitlock saw me immediately. She spent so much time with me talking about my options for treatment, given I could not afford surgery right now. Ultimately she said I could start with a brace and began the process. That evening she creating a mold so I could immediately get a customs brace. I swear just being in the same room with Dr. Whitlock eased my anxiety, as well as the anxiety of my girl Lola. This doctor does the work because she has a heart of gold and loves animals. Goliath, my Akita, had 2 TPLOs and needed to strengthen his rear legs. He absolutely loved the hydrotherapy, walking on the underwater treadmill. He tolerated the exercises and the laser. Everyone at Holistic was very understanding about his needs (not good with other dogs) and made accommodations that fit for him. They also handled his warning signs to back off treatments in the right way. He loved the treats - especially the peanut butter!! Helped to get his focus off of who was doing what to him and allow for treatment to continue and everyone to keep their digits and limbs. As soon as he has his screws and plates removed from his TPLOs, we will be going back for further treatment. It is a very calm and serene place with people who love their jobs and it shows. My mini poodle was in terrible back pain. I had gone to my regular vet who is outstanding and he gave us some pain meds and told us to wait. We werent seeing any improvement and were facing more extreme treatments. At the Holistic Care they did a treatment and gave her some holistic oral treatment. When it was recommended that my dog have physical therapy after TPLO surgery, i was actually, like, 'really. physical therapy?' However, what I came to understand was it was THIS that helped her heal as quickly and thoroughly as she did Our vet was fantastic, the helpers wonderful. They were loving, conscientious, and customized everything to her needs. I spoke with another dog-person who's dog went through the very same surgery, who didn't do any therapy, and while there can be a myriad of reasons why the healing process didn't take, they said that they chose not to, and were paying the price. We specially did the water treadmill which my dog loved, and worked hard at. And she's 100% healed and happy!Highly recommend this facility. Read Less

I love Holistic Veterinary Care! They have done so much for my Dekitta who was paralyzed during a spay surgery. I just wish I had found them earlier. I found them 4 months after this happened to Dekitta. Hyperbaric Oxygen gave Dekitta renewed energy. Physical therapy helped her keep mobile so her joints wouldn't freeze up. Acupuncture with Graham has been fantastic. It helped her calm her anxiety and it has help stimulate the nerves that had no feeling from the day of surgery. Read Less
