We had our family dog, Lucy, put down a while ago and my mother had called a few weeks ago to see if her ashes were there yet. Linda said they hadn't come in yet but that someone would call her right away when they came in. My mother has been sitting on pins and needles waiting, so she finally called them again only too find out that they were there and no one ever called her! We went to pick up her ashes and my mom was very upset and instead of apologizing, Linda proceeded to make excuses and insist that someone must have called her, except my mother has them on caller ID and they never did. Not to mention even if they had called did they really think it was okay to just call once? We even called the company who did the cremation to see when the ashes had been delivered only to find out they had been there for over 2 weeks! Linda was the most unprofessional person I have ever met in that industry. She kept talking back to my mother and trying to make excuses, so I stepped in and told her how rude and unprofessional she was being, especially since it was a very traumatizing experience for my mother to go through. She then proceeded to say "this is upsetting for me too, I knew Lucy as well". Excuse her? She checked OUR dog in for appointments a few times so she has the right to be upset about a situation that's her fault? I'm 22 years old and we found Lucy when I was 8 years old! Someone like her does not belong in an industry where people are often upset and mourning the loss of a family pet. I'm a mechanic and my cousin is a barista, we both agreed if we ever talked to a customer that way we would have been in serious trouble, if not fired. We took our baby girl in because they were the only one who listened to our brief issue & accepted us if we arrived in 20 minutes before they closed. We made our mad dash gathering everything & Hochy and headed to their office arriving after closing time! They immediately took our baby back & quickly assessing her & found her in critical condition. Dr. April Ervin briefly reviewed her x-rays with us & recommended options, one being, to drive her to Sage Veterinarian & Emergency in Concord for their evaluation & treatment; which we did!The swift attention to our baby and her impression of urgency provided by Dr. April, gave us precious time with our baby, as we rushed to Concord! I started at this vet office about 6 years ago and loved them. Office was great, vet would treat your animal as their own baby. The last 2 years a shift was made. Staff became rude and only about getting your money and moving on. I was 8.5 months pregnant when my brother took my first dog in to make sure she didn't eat something that would make her sick and when she was in the back for an ultrasound she let out a scream and died. I drove 1 hour to say goodbye and yes the vet felt bad but as I was leaving they stopped me to ask how I want to pay to get my dog's body taken care of. They would not let me leave until I paid them something. My mom was still taking my second dog for a year after this incident but it is very hard to deal with the staff. No one will tell you if they are behind on things or if exams or shots are coming up. My dog goes ever 6-7 weeks and just had an exam but I keep getting emails saying she is over do.Save the stress and find a vet that treats your animal like their own child. I am still left wondering what went wrong with my 8 year old rat terrier. Read Less

No sympathy for the clients and the animals. I don't want to hear about the dead dogs in the back, nor do I appreciate laughter. Animals are family to most people. You wouldn't simply laugh about the dead brother or sister of a family, then insinuate what to do with their dead bodies.News flash, animals are not a commodity, nor are they just a product of income. I had the worst experience here yesterday. My sisters cat had a blockage in his genitals. We made a "squeeze in" appointment, they call it. As we're in the room waiting for the vet the cat begins to come in distress, panting which is so abnormal for cats. I go out to the front desk to tell them my cat has become in distress and the lady at the front says "ok I'll let the doctor know, but you were a squeeze in appointment so it could take up to an hour" and I'm thinking to myself, an hour? even if I just told you that my cat is in distress?? So I go back to the room with the cat and get on the phone with east bay emergency vet because they are amazing. I was about to leave and take the cat there but then the doctor decided to show up into our room. Doctor April comes in and starts examining the cat. She starts palpating his abdomen and then she says "OH MY GOD HE IS NOT GOING TO SURVIVE THIS" his bladder was enlarged and rock hard. First of all Dr. April, where are your bedside manners?? He had been bleeding from his genitals for about 3 days at that point. We had to make the unfortunate decision to put our boy down. Hate to see him suffer. I decided to stay with my sisters cat as they did that so I could make sure they don't leave him in the room to suffer I wanted to make sure they put him down right away get him out of pain. As she was giving the cat a sedative she began to blame myself and my family for the cats death I was very upset that while she's putting my cat down she's blaming me for why she's having to do it. I will never be returning here. Dr. April is not a good vet. Her staff is not friendly. The only nice person we saw yesterday was a blonde named Holly. She seemed to be the only compassionate one. Everyone else should learn how to be nice to people, especially when their animal is in trouble. I don't get how this place has so many good reviews. It's the worst vet I've been to in years. If I could rate 0 stars I would but yelp doesn't let you go that low. Don't recommend this vet to anyone. Especially Dr. April. Read Less

Wow! So much personality and honesty exists through the doors of this Veterinary Clinic, it was a very refreshing and pleasant experience. Dr. Irving (if I'm recalling her last name correctly as I know her first name was April) just loved my pit bull lab mix and gave me and my boyfriend some really wonderful, honest tips towards training her since she's such a high energy dog. We loved our experience here today and although I had paid a bit more coming to this vet, the price was well worth the service!! There was just a lot of love felt here and you can tell the staff really love what they do, it left me feeling quite inspired. We definitely will be bringing our baby back here again in the future. I highly recommend Cypress Vet!  I've taken my fur kid Bill to Dr. DeCosta, and more recently Dr. Lee, since 2010.  Cypress took great care of my Bill when she had an emergency operation to remove her uterus.  They were also there when she developed a slipped disc in her back, the most pain she had ever been in.  Both veterinarians are spectacular!  They really cared about my pet.  Our last visit was the most difficult, because it was then that we learned Bill would need to be put down.  Dr. Lee sat on the ground with Bill and answered all of our many questions.  The love and support we received helped us deal with the grief.  Cypress played a huge part in keeping Bill healthy for 13 years 10 months.  If I do get another pet, I will bring him/her to Cypress! I called in and was able to be seen the same day. Brought my sweet older cat in. This place has two entrances, one for big dogs and one for smalls dogs and cats. Such a thoughtful thing to do!And that's what it comes down to. This place is all kinds of thoughtful. The staff and doctor are friendly, efficient, caring and gentle. My little guy is painfully shy and would melt away if he could. They handled it beautifully to the point he didn't even feel stressed enough to cry out.They even went over different options as far as what needed to be done now and what could be done in the future. Love this place!! Came recommended from a friend. Had a timid scared pitty that was scared of new people, they did great with him. They were super gentle and took there time gaining his trust. After he passed we got another Pitt Bull and he LOVES going to this vet. Everyone is so happy and friendly he gets excited when he relies where we are going. They treat both my cats very well also. Thought I would be waiting for a bit since I was early, but did not think I was going to be waiting 50 mins before I got a "we'll be with you shorty'. Cypress Vet Hospital is amazing. My wife and I recently took our new Gold Retriever puppy "Max" to see Dr. Irvin who was an absolute hit in Max's eyes. Also, when Max was taken back to meet the rest of the staff and get his chip, he came back like he had just gone to the puppy play time at his training center. Lastly, I personally found the prices to be VERY reasonable. We only paid $123.00 for his first check up, a round of DHPP, and chipping. As far as I am concerned, Cypress will definitely be Max's vet for life! Read Less

I've been going to this vet for years, for our dogs and cats.  They are so great regarding pricing for treatments as well as giving you treatment options.  They've always done their best to work with in my financial abilities to take care of my pets. I have always seen Dr. DeCosta and she is great.A couple months ago my dog ended up with a really bad ear infection, and over the past couple months we've been seeing Dr. April, and she has been absolutely wonderful with us and our dog. It's clear how much she loves animals, and really made me feel that she loves my Chessie like her own.  On our last visit of six follow-ups appts, she sent me on my way with no charge because she recognized how much time and money we had already put into our dog's health.I live 20 miles away from the vet and there are plenty of choices near my home, but I'll never switch!  They are 100% worth the drive! DR D and her staff are amazing Having worked in the vet med industry it was very hard to find a good vet once i moved and i wont go anywhere else now. They always do a good job and DR D and the whole staff went above and beyond when i came home from work to find my 4 dogs got into trouble when i gone and all needed immediate care. They stayed late to help my dogs and never once complained i was so scared and frantic and i am forever greatful for thier kindness and compassion They were all ok thank heavens but can't say enough good things about Dr Decosta the techs that stayed to help and the front staff who were all awesome. I have taken both of my pitbulls to this vet since I have moved to Oakley. My poor animal is suffering and has to continue seeing the vet for the same issues for years now, with no conclusion besides he's allergic to something. The only way he gets better are from the pills they have prescribe which has an expiration date on it. Only one time I was able to receive the refills without an appt and I called early that morning to not receive a call back that the prescription were ready. I called them 30 mins before closing that day for them to tell me it's been ready but they were busy. Now I have to take him back in for another visit to not receive an answer besides he's allergic to something, "it could be anything". I've spent hundred of dollars for them to give me the same pills and that he's allergic to something. I'm done giving you my money. It's time to find a vet that will care for my animals.Read Less

Acupuncture, homemade meal recipes, supplements, and an open mind made it possible to provide Duchess with a lifestyle she could enjoy rather than just endure. Despite our deaf, blind, wobbly little girl's frail appearance, she thrived! And Dr. D encouraged us to listen to our little lady and make decisions from there. During the hard visits, the staff was accommodating and understanding of the challenges we faced as a family, wanting only the best for our best friend. Love this place! Yes the prices are a little more than some places but it is well worth it. The doctor is the nicest person, along with the staff. Not sure why people are saying they are rude and talk over you. I have never had that happen and they are nice. The room is always wiped clean and never smells at all. This is a long over due review. My family used Cypress Veterinary Hospital early 2014 for the first and only time. Six months later, this is still very hard to write and think about!When we moved to this community, we continued to use our veterinarian in San Francisco. However, when my 14+ year old yellow lab could no longer eat or walk, we knew we had a tough decision to make. We felt that it was not fair to out almost 15 year old girl to take her on a one hour drive. I called around for a local vet. I was shocked that many places wanted to do a full work up exam! This was an old pup. We rescued her 13 years prior, and she was not a puppy then! We were guessing she was 14+. Not only did they want to put our girl through that, they wanted to charge us big money for the exam. On a friend's suggestion, I called Cypress. They were amazing from the start. The lady on the phone was super understanding and not once made me feel bad for doing the best I could to spell things out. I was crying too much to be understood. She got the basics and said she could take care of the rest in the office. I was thinking that would mean a lot of paper work. It was not like that. It was some basic information. The office staff were compassionate every step of our journey!I will admit that everything that cold drizzly morning is a bit blurry. I brought my girl in. The love and compassion from all of the staff was obvious and heartfelt! They gave my girl something to relax her. This was the first time in months that she was painfree!! The staff gave us a cookie jar and told us we could give her as many as we wanted. My girl was happy and interactive again. We were not rushed. We said our goodbyes with grateful smiles. My old pup laid her tired head down. The vet gave our girl another shot and we walked out. Thank you, Cypress Vet, for the dignity and respect!And thank you for following up with a meaningful card!! We have been coming to Cypress Veterinary Hospital since Dr. Munz was there. Dr. De Costa is our doctor now and I can't say enough good things about her. She has taken care of all our animals - our wrottweiller, our pit bull, and now our Frenchies. She is always so concerned about our pets and takes as much time as needed to answer our questions. She always calls the next day after our appointment to check on our fur babies and makes us feel very important. The rest of the staff is wonderful too. The other doctors are great and the office staff - in particular Linda, keeps everything running smoothly and makes sure our appointments are the best they can be.
