I'm so glad I was referred to Occidental Veterinary Hospital! We have taken all 3 of our animals here over the past year and every visit is great. The staff is so sweet. They never make me feel rushed...
I'm so glad I was referred to Occidental Veterinary Hospital! We have taken all 3 of our animals here over the past year and every visit is great. The staff is so sweet. They never make me feel rushed and are through in their diagnosis and treatment options. They are compassionate to their clients and every time they have answered all of my questions without hesitation. I have never been overwhelmed when I go to pay because they always go over treatment and cost options BEFORE they do anything and always work with me on picking the best treatment plan. Thank you Occidental Veterinary! You guys are awesome!

Dr. Lane and the staff at Occidental Veterinary hospital stayed after hours to care for our precious boy and couldn't have been more kind, compassionate and professional in their care and skill. We we're very thankful to all of them and highly recommend! Thank you so very much for taking first rate care of our little Harley Byrd who is now on the mend thanks to you!❤🐶👍👏

Occidental Veterinary is extraordinary. From the day we brought home our guy, Woof! at 9 weeks old to today they have been a outstanding and loving extension of our efforts and experiences in raising our special guy. Despite out two hour drive, whether it be unplanned, emergency or planned visit, the staff and docs are always on hand to not only help but provide Woof! with the familiarity and care he is so comfortable with. Whejn I say "let's go to the vet" you would think I said let's play ball! He runs in, stays attentive and you can see the trust in his eyes and action and they return the same. Woof! is our first dog and he is a high energy smart guy. He takes some special handling because of his know-it-all personality and the staff here under Doctor Lane has helped shape him into the special guy he is!!! They are unbiased, fair and over generous with their knowledge, time and attention! Thank you everyone.

Overall, Occidental Vet Hospital is very good to excellent. Because Occidental is somewhat out of the way and 15 minutes to Sebastopol can seem like an eternity when you have an emergency, it is even more important to keep regular Saturday hours. Dr. Lane can seem aloof and clinical bordering and overly cautious and extreme in treatment. Better to be safe than sorry is my attitude, though. The front staff make up for the poor bedside manner. Each is friendly and competent and eagerly develop personal relationships with both you and your pet. We continue to choose Occidental Veterinary Hospital for our "go to" primary care pet services.

I would love to patronize locally owned, small businesses but when it's clear the owners are only out for themselves I have a very hard time doing this.
I have taken my dogs to Occidental Vet many times over the years and recently had a need for a prescription for simple flea medication, a medication that has been prescribed for both dogs by this vet in the past. I was appalled by the fact that the vet wouldn't provide this prescription without charging me for a full check-up when the dogs weren't due any shots/check-ups for another 4 months. So, I guess the vet would rather have me buy the medication from a questionable online source rather than provide a prescription to ensure the animal has the care it needs, pretty sad. Analy vet, who has also seen these dogs in the past, was happy to write the prescription.
At Occidental Vet the client doesn't come first, the vets wallet comes first.

Dr. Lane was our primary vet for a few years before her move to Northern California, and we miss her and the care she provided to our 4 footers. She was incredibly smart and had tips and medication recommendations that other vets hadn't thought of. We always knew that our 3 dogs and cat were getting the best of care. I also enjoyed talking to her about traveling, although her recommendation to try Pasta cooked in Black Squid Ink in Venice, Italy I would reconsider (although it is probably an acquired taste). Occidental, you are lucky to have her.

BUT THE RECEPTIONIST NEW SOMEONE WHO WAS LOOSING A CAT19 YRS OLD AND SAID THEY HE WOULD ALMOST 99% ADOPT AND PAY THE EXPENSIVE SURGERY BEING BROKE I AGREED AS THE MAN WOULD LOVE MY CAT AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT . MY ONLY HURTFUL PART TO THIS STORY IS I ONLY AGREED BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE MONEY I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY DOG IN AGAIN WHEN THE RECEPTIONIST SAID I OWED REMAINDER BALANCE I EXSPLAINED AND SHE MADE ME FEEL AS IF I DIDNT CARE ABOUT MY CAT AND I JUST CUT AND RAN AS THE DR PUT IT .I GAVE MY CAT UP BECAUSE I LOVED MY CAT AND GAVE IT AWAY SO IT WOULD LIVE A HAPPY LIFE WITH A LOVING OWNER. I love Dr Lane, and so do both by cats.
Thanks to her experience and her honesty, she will "tell it like it is" and will not only advise you to provide the best of care for your pets, but you will know why you are doing what you are doing! Dr Lane is a straight shooter who leaves no doubt in my mind or questions unanswered. I love the fact that she has made me a more knowledgeable and active participant in my cats' care. She always explains why she suggests what she does and you are never left with the feeling that you have been bombarded with big words in order to be made to spend more money.
My elderly aunt has also consulted with Dr Lane about her senior cat, who had previously been misdiagnosed and put through useless and expensive treatments. Dr Lane quickly found anemia to be the culprit, had the proper tests ran and Aero is now being treated appropriately. I recommend Dr Lane without hesitation.

Dr Lane has treated both my cats. I not only truly value and appreciate her experience, but most of all, I appreciate her honesty. Everything that is done (or not done when not necessary) to my cats is explained. Thanks to Dr Lane, I feel like a better pet owner because I am an active participant in my cats' care. I know what is being done, why, how, and most of all I do not feel placated, wooed to bring in more business or uselessly flattered to generate more revenue. The common goal Dr Lane and I have is the health of my pets, and I have full confidence in whatever Dr Lane recommends. She tells it like it is. And my cats love her (they actually sit on the exam table without restraint as she opens their mouths, look at their ears, etc.) Animals can tell.

Very unprofessional and greedy operation that looks for reasons to add more services to bill you. They also "fired" us as customers with no explanation...what??! Analy is a much better vet with more doctors and support staff and run their business with integrity at a good value. Sad for Occidental.

Dr. Lane was our primary vet for a few years before her move to Northern California, and we miss her and the care she provided to our 4 footers. She was incredibly smart and had tips and medication recommendations that other vets hadn't thought of. We always knew that our 3 dogs and cat were getting the best of care. I also enjoyed talking to her about traveling, although her recommendation to try Pasta cooked in Black Squid Ink in Venice, Italy I would reconsider (although it is probably an acquired taste). Occidental, you are lucky to have her.

BUT THE RECEPTIONIST NEW SOMEONE WHO WAS LOOSING A CAT19 YRS OLD AND SAID THEY HE WOULD ALMOST 99% ADOPT AND PAY THE EXPENSIVE SURGERY BEING BROKE I AGREED AS THE MAN WOULD LOVE MY CAT AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT . MY ONLY HURTFUL PART TO THIS STORY IS I ONLY AGREED BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE MONEY I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY DOG IN AGAIN WHEN THE RECEPTIONIST SAID I OWED REMAINDER BALANCE I EXSPLAINED AND SHE MADE ME FEEL AS IF I DIDNT CARE ABOUT MY CAT AND I JUST CUT AND RAN AS THE DR PUT IT .I GAVE MY CAT UP BECAUSE I LOVED MY CAT AND GAVE IT AWAY SO IT WOULD LIVE A HAPPY LIFE WITH A LOVING OWNER. AND IT TOOK THE REMAINDER OF CASH MONEY I HAD .

TO SAY I CUT AND RANBECAUSE I COULDNT AFORD A OPERATION IS OBSURD AND RUDE ,I ENDED UP TAKING MY DOG TO GUENEVILLE CLINIC WERE I WAS PLEASENTLY SURPRISED THAT THE NEW VET IS REASONABLE KIND AND PATIENT EDDIE IS RETIRED AND HOPEFULLY ON SOME BREACH WITH AN UMBRELLA GOOD LUCK ED TAKE YOUR CHANCES? THERE ARE 2 DR AND I WOULD RECOMEND THE MALE DR. NOT SAYING THEY ARE NOT GOOD DR, BUT NOT VERY UNDERSTANDING EVERYONE HAS BILLS .HOPEFULLY THEY WILL NEVER HAVE TO BE IN MY POSITION!

I love Dr Lane, and so do both by cats.
Thanks to her experience and her honesty, she will "tell it like it is" and will not only advise you to provide the best of care for your pets, but you will know why you are doing what you are doing! Dr Lane is a straight shooter who leaves no doubt in my mind or questions unanswered. I love the fact that she has made me a more knowledgeable and active participant in my cats' care. She always explains why she suggests what she does and you are never left with the feeling that you have been bombarded with big words in order to be made to spend more money.
My elderly aunt has also consulted with Dr Lane about her senior cat, who had previously been misdiagnosed and put through useless and expensive treatments. Dr Lane quickly found anemia to be the culprit, had the proper tests ran and Aero is now being treated appropriately. I recommend Dr Lane without hesitation.

Dr Lane has treated both my cats. I not only truly value and appreciate her experience, but most of all, I appreciate her honesty. Everything that is done (or not done when not necessary) to my cats is explained. Thanks to Dr Lane, I feel like a better pet owner because I am an active participant in my cats' care. I know what is being done, why, how, and most of all I do not feel placated, wooed to bring in more business or uselessly flattered to generate more revenue. The common goal Dr Lane and I have is the health of my pets, and I have full confidence in whatever Dr Lane recommends. She tells it like it is. And my cats love her (they actually sit on the exam table without restraint as she opens their mouths, look at their ears, etc.) Animals can tell.
