I called about a rescue dog there to see if I could pay for boarding and potentially get him fixed; they'd already sent to the shelter and this was the front desk lady's curt response when asked which one so I could go get him. I don't know why I've not reviewed Dr. Gerry before! Our experiences here have been nothing short of amazing! We have an 8 year old Cairn Terrier (think Toto from wizard of oz) that has been coming here since she was weeks old! The 'puppy class' played an integral role in making her the member of our family she is today. We learned a ton about our dog when a dog expected to weight 18 pounds was asked to attend the 'big dog class' largely due to attitude! AWESOMENESS!She is well behaved and healthy. As she reaches middle age the staff at OVC helps us assess what to expect. I highly recommend this business as a long term relationship for anyone needing dog or cat rearing and care advise! I live in Temecula, California. My 11 year old Golden Retriever was diagnosed with anal gland carcinoma. It was well worth the 470 mile drive (one way) to have Dr. Gerry do the surgery. My Golden almost made it to be 14 years old. Knowledge, empathy, concern, professionalism, talent, character, you name it, Dr. Gerry is the best. I'll take my pets to local veterinarians for routine check up and vaccinations, but I will only go to Dr. Gerry for anything serious or when surgery is a must. For those of you who have to have your beloved pet killed/put down/euthanized, etc soon...This review is for Dr. Gerry.I took my best friend since I was 9 years old, Felice, to be humanely killed.  It was her time to go, like many cats she had kidney problems.  They have an entire separate office for surgery and farewells next to the regular dog vet office.  Before this I had imagined big machinery hooked up to your beloved pet by an uncaring, cold, methodical employee.  They push a button, machines pump and your pet dies.That was not it at all.Dr Gerry talked with us and explained what was going to happen then what was happening while it was happening.  His attitude felt genuine; he seemed as sad as us but was able to talk to us the whole time.  There are no big machines, just you, your pet, the doctor, a syringe and a colorful, plush blanket to set your pet on.If you're dreading that moment but you know the time is right, see Dr Gerry.  Everyone will be better from it. I took my extraordinary vibrant healthy Bogey to Dr Gerry for a dental and Bogey died from a cardiac arrest. Dr G cannot explain. No one breathed for Bogey I believe he was alone when it happened. We are beyond devastated. Bogey was the heart and soul of our family into everything we did every moment. He went everywhere. His sister is confused and depressed. I have not stopped crying since feb 25. I'm physically sick. Bogeys ashes were late coming back I called Bubbling Wells myself and they got him a week later than we were told. No one from Orinda Vet ever called to give us an ETA nor did they bother calling us when they had him back. Dr muttered something about bringing them to us when we asked why they didn't tell us. We were treated like dirt and we never raised our voices nor made a scene. I don't even want to live without my gorgeous boy. I'm miserable and nothing can bring him back. It's not anesthesia it just doesn't "happen". I'm standing for my little man who loved us with every inch of his little dachshund body. He did not deserve to die. God help us. Yelp forces us to give a star which is not what I would like to give. Bogey you are the best little boy in the world. Mommy Daddy and Nina love you and miss you so much. Read Less

I drive from Pleasant Hill to bring my orange tabby Lukas here.. not only do the vets here put me at ease but Lukas loves them honestly. He is nervous and hides until the Dr comes in and then he lights up, purrs and cuddles. He's a champ here and everyone pretty much here is wonderful. I must pass 20+ vets on the way here - but I wouldn't go anywhere else! Read Less
