We cannot say enough positive things about The Animal Doctors! We have seen both Doctor Jones and Doctor Lagerwerff and they are both very compassionate and professional. Our latest visit involved an emergency with our beloved kitty cat, my husband spoke on the phone to the front desk and described symptoms. We were impressed that just through this discussion they knew that the cat needed to be seen and fit her in at 3.30pm on a Friday. Once there they were quick and very careful with our kitty who was in pain with what looked like a UTI - x-rays quickly showed she had kidney stones. They recommended an emergency clinic and by the time we got there they already had all of her files and the x-rays. Without the Animal Doctors quick and precise work, I don't think our kitty would have gotten help as quickly as she needed. We are so grateful to them for recognizing that she needed help and assisting us in such a compassionate way. Everyone who is a pet owner / lover knows how scary that type of situation can be, and they are first class in helping and making sure you are happy and comfortable with what is going on. We have never felt like they overcharge, if anything they work with you to make sure it is within your budget and keep the costs down where they can - this is a huge indication of the type of people they are, as it's never about the money when your pet is feeling unwell but it's incredible to see how much they care and work overtime for as low cost as possible. Thank you SO much! We will always recommend The Animal Doctors!

Dr Jones and Dr Lagerwerff are both first class. I have a Vizsla and they are highly sensitive dogs. Both the Vets are so gentle with her and actually get on the floor to examine her.My dog Zara had me up all night with what appeared to be something in her eye. I was exhausted. Called the vet just before opening time and they told me to come straight in. They squeezed me in after their 8.00 a.m. and 8.15 a.m. patient. Apparently they will always get you in if you have an emergency and you are one of their patients. PLUS, no emergency charge! Zara had badly scratched her eye. I was in and out in under half an hour - meds and all.Very impressive. The staff are very close knit and humorous. Always feels like visiting family:) It's so nice to know that I will see one or the other of the vets when I visit - they are both great!

Unfortunately, our first experience with Dr. Jones, Holly and the rest of the superb staff at The Animal Doctor was to end the suffering of my girlfriends terminally ill dog. Everyone was extremely professional, courteous and compassionate. I will not hesitate to take a pet to The Animal Doctor for any sort of care in the future, seeing the level of care we received on our first experience.

This is a wonderful place. Dr. Lagerwerff has been caring for my two cats since they were babies and they are now 13 years old. They are on the "difficult" end of the cat spectrum and he is completely unfazed and calm despite the hissing and biting that goes on when they are stressed. Thanks to him, his staff, Dr. Jones, and outstanding diagnostics, both cats are still thriving despite having some serious health issues. The staff is also very caring and helpful. Holly in particular helped save the day by telling me about compounded medication that my medicine-resistant cat loves and will take even from caregivers when I have to be away. A Palo Alto treasure.

Wonderful, compassionate, and competent!
When I put down my beloved cat, Scully, and vets and staff at The Animal Doctors were amazing. Dr. Jones and Dayna took wonderful care of Scully as she declined during her last three months, offering options for treatment and ways to keep her comfortable. They somehow found a way to take blood and urine samples (prior vets and techs had even refused to treat her because of her difficult temperament during procedures!).
When I realized it was time to let go, they got me in immediately and provided a quiet and peaceful room for the procedure. The back office staff even entertained my 2yo while Dr. Jones performed the euthanasia. The procedure was quick and appeared painless for Scully, for which we are so grateful. We were offered as much time as we needed with Scully after she passed and were offered hugs and comfort as well. One week after saying goodbye, the office sent a sympathy card (signed by everyone) and paw prints of Scully. Finally, when I picked up Scully's remains, I was again shown incredible compassion by Holly, who took time to console me and provided another hug.
We are so thankful for The Animal Doctors. They treated us like family!

Excellent care by Dr. Lagerwerff for when our regular house vet was out on a vacay. They took us in on a short notice, as if they were emergency veterinary hospital (and they are not). Not only everyone was truly understanding and gentle, and allowed me to be with our puppy throughout all visits (initial and follow ups, blood draws, etc.), but Dr. Lagerwerff listened to everything and asked all the right questions to diagnose and figure out the course of action swiftly. He reassured me that everything was going to be alright, which it eventually was, and played a role of a physiologist of sorts to us humans, in addition to being a vet. I felt very calm and most importantly, our hero of the day felt calm, too. If I'm ever in need again, I know exactly where to go.

My cat has kidney problems and I need to give him subcutaneous fluid. I was going to be out-of-town and needed someone to do that for me. I found Dana at the Animal Doctors. She is without a doubt one of the nicest, most pleasant human beings I have met in my life and we immediately switched vets. I have had my cat checked by both of the vets there and they both seemed enormously competent. Besides caring for my cat they told me ways I could save on vet bills and have never tried to take advantage of me. Like Dana, they also exude a love for the animals that is unmistakable. I have come to find that everyone in the office is like that.
It may be more common than I know but when I call they need to know my cat's name and have a more difficult time finding the information using mine. It may be a common practice but it really does make me feel like it is about my cat and not about my money. I am extremely glad I found them.

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Lagerwerff, and more recently Dr. Jones, for decades. They are wonderful vets who give good practical advice for health care in good times and bad. They gave me well directed advice and referral to a specialist when one of my dogs was diagnosed with lymphoma and, after a nice remission, they gently told me when it was time to let her go. In another instance Dr. Lagerwerff repaired our dog's ACL which gave her a new lease on life. I highly recommend these vets and their staff as a community clinic to whom you can happily entrust your beloved animals.

Dr. Lagerwerff is hands down the BEST veterinarian! I went through several vets on the Peninsula over the years before finally finding Dr. L, and he is without a doubt, the best of the bunch. Dr. L truly loves and understands animals. He involves you in the discussion and collaborates with you to determine the best care for your pet (e.g. he doesn't treat you like a moron). He communicates clearly and tenderly, especially in tough situations. He helped me relieve my beautiful cat of her misery this morning, quietly and peacefully. When I'm ready for a new pet, I will be happy to make the drive to Palo Alto from San Francisco to ensure my pet is getting the BEST care available. Hurray for Dr. Lagerwerff!

This is a wonderful place. Dr. Lagerwerff has been caring for my two cats since they were babies and they are now 13 years old. They are on the "difficult" end of the cat spectrum and he is completely unfazed and calm despite the hissing and biting that goes on when they are stressed. Thanks to him, his staff, Dr. Jones, and outstanding diagnostics, both cats are still thriving despite having some serious health issues. The staff is also very caring and helpful. Holly in particular helped save the day by telling me about compounded medication that my medicine-resistant cat loves and will take even from caregivers when I have to be away. A Palo Alto treasure.

these guys have been seeing my animals for years. They are reasonably priced and do good work. My advice with veterinarians is to call around and ask prices before you schedule.

Dr Lagerwerff is an experienced, caring vet and the staff is professional and compassionate. They have the equipment of a larger animal hospital with a personal touch of a"family" doctor.

Wonderful, compassionate, and competent!
When I put down my beloved cat, Scully, and vets and staff at The Animal Doctors were amazing. Dr. Jones and Dayna took wonderful care of Scully as she declined during her last three months, offering options for treatment and ways to keep her comfortable. They somehow found a way to take blood and urine samples (prior vets and techs had even refused to treat her because of her difficult temperament during procedures!).
When I realized it was time to let go, they got me in immediately and provided a quiet and peaceful room for the procedure. The back office staff even entertained my 2yo while Dr. Jones performed the euthanasia. The procedure was quick and appeared painless for Scully, for which we are so grateful. We were offered as much time as we needed with Scully after she passed and were offered hugs and comfort as well. One week after saying goodbye, the office sent a sympathy card (signed by everyone) and paw prints of Scully. Finally, when I picked up Scully's remains, I was again shown incredible compassion by Holly, who took time to console me and provided another hug.
We are so thankful for The Animal Doctors. They treated us like family!

Excellent care by Dr. Lagerwerff for when our regular house vet was out on a vacay. They took us in on a short notice, as if they were emergency veterinary hospital (and they are not). Not only everyone was truly understanding and gentle, and allowed me to be with our puppy throughout all visits (initial and follow ups, blood draws, etc.), but Dr. Lagerwerff listened to everything and asked all the right questions to diagnose and figure out the course of action swiftly. He reassured me that everything was going to be alright, which it eventually was, and played a role of a physiologist of sorts to us humans, in addition to being a vet. I felt very calm and most importantly, our hero of the day felt calm, too. If I'm ever in need again, I know exactly where to go.

My cat has kidney problems and I need to give him subcutaneous fluid. I was going to be out-of-town and needed someone to do that for me. I found Dana at the Animal Doctors. She is without a doubt one of the nicest, most pleasant human beings I have met in my life and we immediately switched vets. I have had my cat checked by both of the vets there and they both seemed enormously competent. Besides caring for my cat they told me ways I could save on vet bills and have never tried to take advantage of me. Like Dana, they also exude a love for the animals that is unmistakable. I have come to find that everyone in the office is like that.
It may be more common than I know but when I call they need to know my cat's name and have a more difficult time finding the information using mine. It may be a common practice but it really does make me feel like it is about my cat and not about my money. I am extremely glad I found them.

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Lagerwerff, and more recently Dr. Jones, for decades. They are wonderful vets who give good practical advice for health care in good times and bad. They gave me well directed advice and referral to a specialist when one of my dogs was diagnosed with lymphoma and, after a nice remission, they gently told me when it was time to let her go. In another instance Dr. Lagerwerff repaired our dog's ACL which gave her a new lease on life. I highly recommend these vets and their staff as a community clinic to whom you can happily entrust your beloved animals.

Dr. Lagerwerff is hands down the BEST veterinarian! I went through several vets on the Peninsula over the years before finally finding Dr. L, and he is without a doubt, the best of the bunch. Dr. L truly loves and understands animals. He involves you in the discussion and collaborates with you to determine the best care for your pet (e.g. he doesn't treat you like a moron). He communicates clearly and tenderly, especially in tough situations. He helped me relieve my beautiful cat of her misery this morning, quietly and peacefully. When I'm ready for a new pet, I will be happy to make the drive to Palo Alto from San Francisco to ensure my pet is getting the BEST care available. Hurray for Dr. Lagerwerff!
