Dr. Tyson failed to do proper x-rays and ultra-sound that would have revealed my dogs true illness. She prescribed medication that caused internal bleeding. When I informed her that my dog was suddenly deathly ill after two days of the medications she had prescribed,  she said "bring them all back". Bring them all back?.. was my dog a lab experiment?  She dismisses the pet owners concerns and undermines your thoughts as her ego has the best of her.  I took my dog to two other veterinarians after her claims, who did full x-rays, bloodwork and ultra-sounds (something she should have originally done) which properly diagnosed my dog. Both doctors at TWO SEPARATE vets said my dog did not have any form of bone cancer or metastasized tumors or congestive heart failure or enlarged liver as Tyson claimed (reports at hand). Yet Dr. Tyson was discussing chemo and amputations and "exploratory surgery".. none of which was necessary according to two specialists. In-fact at age 12 exploratory surgery would have killed my dog. Can you imagine had I agreed?? My dog would be dead now but she would have made her money.You can imagine as a dog owner what this did to me. How I went through hell and back. You are free to make your choices in what vet care you choose. However, I had to do my part and inform other pet owners. To date my dog hasn't recovered from the internal bleeding caused by the wrong medications prescribed. She will have to be on other medication for the rest of her life to help absorb the internal bleeding that was caused.  Big mistake on Tyson's part!(It's scary that I saw a few other yelps with similar situations below) Read Less

I would highly reconsider going to this practice. My pet was diagnosed correctly but given the wrong medications, and dosage which has prolonged and worsened his issues. After consulting with 2 other vets it was confirmed that Dr. Tyson had made a large mistake with my pet that caused and is still causing him pain and suffering. I would also like to point out that while I was there I was lectured and given false information about where the origin of my pet's illness came from, and was made to be fearful of my family's own personal health due to our proximity to our sick pet. She also threatened to report me to the city because of my pets illness, which she led me to believe was transferable to humans, but after doing research (as she insisted) found out was untrue, and my pet's issue is species specific. We have been going to Crown City Vet for 13 years. We started when we first got our English lab, Maggie, just 8 weeks old at the time. We have never regretted our choice and would not go to another vet. We have always found the staff to be very friendly and caring to our girl, and to us, her parents. Dr. Tyson has always been great, following up with calls to our home if Maggie was having a particularly difficult time. Maggie loves going there, particularly for her "spa day" once a month when she receives a medicated bath and a blow dry. It's hard for me to understand the very negative reviews, as this has never been our experience. Dr.Tyson is devoted to her profession ,from what I gather . It takes having a true passion for your work if you want to have success at being veterinarian, and still run your own business. She has even branched out to create a non-profit so she can care for more animals that would other wise die. I've been reading some of the bad reviews and it seems like the people giving then are totally out of focus with reality. A vet clinic is not a day spa ! People giving bad reviews leave your big EGO's at the door if you REALLY care for your animals. That is the truth. I trust her with multiple dog's Horses and reptiles, she has always given me the true nature of the problem and never tried to trick me for more money. Dr. Tyson and staff always go above and beyond to take care of my fur babies.   I know my fur family is in good hands and going to get the best treatment.  Dr. Tyson takes the time to explain everything to you and gives you options that fit your budget.    Today two of my dogs got into a disagreement with each other over a treat. How a veterinarian can show such disrespect for the animals they are sworn to protect I will never know. Dr. Tyson's self-centered actions last week at the LA Equestrian center were not only intentionally reckless and unethical, but should result in criminal action at best and license revocation at the least. I'm embarrassed to see she is a graduate from Oregon State University. Obviously slept through class. No one especially a veterinarian would remove an infected horse from quarantine risking the lives of other uninfected horses. Just a disgrace to the profession. Read Less

Dr Melissa Tyson removed a horse from the La Equestrian center in Burbank, CA who tested POSITIVE for Equine Herpes, therefore breaking protocol and how many quarantine laws; threatening people as she left!! Those who don't know what equine herpes is; it's highly contagious and almost always fatal. She needs to have her license revoked. Every time I have to bring my furbabies in for a visit I know they are in good hands. Dr. Tyson and Dr. Powell treat my four legged kids like their own. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. My experience with Crown City Vet Group & Dr. Tyson was an absolute nightmare. I'm relieved to read all the other negative feedback because it is assuring me that I wasn't alone in being treated so horribly by this woman. I was completely taken off guard when she finally came in to the room to meet with us - after waiting for hours (even though she had no previous clients & the waiting room was empty). My immediate impression was that she was bothered by the fact that I was insisting on speaking with her in person. After all, we had driven from the San Fernando Valley area to seek help for a mysterious condition with one of my kittens & a paw wound on another young adult cat. Dr. Tyson was hostile, rude, condescending, & said things that were so far off-base I wondered if I was being 'Punked'! It was a surreal experience for me & my friend who came along & witnessed the entire event. Dr. Tyson seems to know nothing about the animals she treats except viewing them as disease carrying lab cases. She refused to examine & treat my animals - insisting they all have extensive (& expensive) lab work performed, first! When I took my kitten out of the carrier, her eyes grew wide & she was out right disgusted... telling me "I now needed to wash my hands & had cross contaminated my shirt!" I have NEVER met such an awful veterinarian in my life! I honestly do not understand how this woman can keep the doors of her practice open... with such out right contempt for unsuspecting clients & animals. She seemed to be bragging about her "credentials", especially the part where she said she had euthanized twenty cats at the Pasadena Humane Society the previous day. She claimed they all had been exposed to the Carona Virus. MOST cats in Southern CA have been exposed to Carona. This crazy woman believes that all cats exposed should be killed. FIP only occurs when there is a genetic mutation in the virus but she seems to be living on another planet than the rest of us who know the facts. She seems to just want to KILL & even used the term, "culling". The things she said to us in less than an hour would make the hair stand up on the back of anyone's neck. I find this woman to be fanatical, ego maniacal, & self absorbed. It is frightening to think about the power she may have as head vet at a shelter. I recently met the owner of Crown City Veterinary at a Pet Food store. While I was interested in hearing what she had to say about food allergies as I briefly explained what I was dealing with about one of my dogs, I felt she was very condescending and ended her conversation with KISS Laurene, Keep it simple Stupid! I did not appreciate being called stupid and was appauled by her bedside manner. I later saw her at another Food Store and she commented, aweee I see, because she saw me with a bag of food that we had been talking about. As if I should have listened to her recommendation about feeding my dog pedigree. She lacked so much background to my pets medical history and was casting judgement on me. I really try to be the best dog owner, aware of as much information that can harm my pet. When I meet up with arrogant vets like this women, who criticizes your current vet and makes comments without even knowing me, I am totally turned off and WILL NOT recommend ANYONE TO HER!!!!Read Less

Dr. Tyson cares about animals and it shows! If you are looking for a place that your animal while like going to because of the care they receive.. My dog is overweight and has knee problems and while is hard taking criticism about they way you raise and care for children, it is great to find someone that can kindly tell you that you need to do better.. We now have our Boy on a new diet and exercise program and he has dropped 15 pounds and has his energy back, I can even lift him now!! I have had living with me as few as one and as many as seven permanent cats plus assorted foster cats for many years, so I am no stranger to veterinary clinics. My experience with Crown City Veterinary Medical Group has been by far the best. My little folk have had excellent care at this clinic for the last four years. Dr. Tyson saved the life of my youngest male cat Thai Chi by curing a very nasty and persistent pulmonary infection and correctly diagnosed a liver problem of Rosalie, one of the females, who is now doing fine on a special diet. The more routine care the others received has been caring and very good indeed. Nobody is absolutely perfect, but this clinic is much more perfect than any other I have used.
