Professional, yes. This was my experience:
I called on Valentine's Day, because I had noticed a boney lump under my senior cat's chin. I've never had a pet until this cat, she was going on 16 years old, and had always been in excellent health. So I brought her in immediately for an exam. "Oh, you've never brushed your cats teeth!" Uh, no. It's a cat, and I'm not that pet owner that lavishes all manner of expensive procedures on an animal. Not that I don't love her, but she's always been healthy.....
Anyway, they soaked me immediately for blood work for several hundred dollars to find out if she could withstand anesthesia so a couple teeth could be pulled. I've never done this, and was caught up in emotion and just wanting to do the right thing by her. I just wrote the check, and hoped for the best. Shame on me, and lesson learned, the hard way. Because they could have just sedated her to check her teeth and jaw to see if it was necessary to put everyone through such stress and trauma. Naturally, when the blood work came back fine, she was immediately scheduled for surgery. After just a couple hours, I got the message from the vet that her jaw wouldn't be able to withstand any teeth getting pulled. That it was cancer, and her jaw was moth-eaten. "Putting her down" would be the most humane thing.
I had to take out a line of credit to take care of my sweet girl, who didn't survive the week. Now I'm paying for a dead animal for 6 months. In retrospect, and with all due respect, I feel they could have just sedated her, and checked her teeth, jaw and gums for disease. And I hear those blood panels are a fraction of what they charge customers. I learned the hard way, but I feel like doctors across the board will try to soak patients for as much as they can get away with, taking advantage of the emotions and vulnerability of owners and parents.
I will not be returning to this establishment.Read Less
