My family has been taking our beloved animals to this veterinary hospital for over thirty years. When I moved to San Anselmo though, 13 years ago, I changed veterinarians due to the distance and convenience. My neighbor recommend a doctor not far from our home. I decided to see how it would work. After 10 years of the new Vet, I decided that the standard of care for my kitty was not at a level that I believed warrented our return. My kitty suffered as a result from an exam that was not thorough as she had a tapeworm and flees and when asked what the bump was on her tail, the Vet gave a very casual remark saying it's just a bump and exited the exam room. Prior to that, during the exam, the Vet did not listen or care to my opinion about the shots he gave my cat as she is indoors and may not require additional immunizations. This took place during her annual exam. A few days later I discovered a small rice like particular on herror coat and knew she had a tape worm. I went to the local pet shop to find something for her tape worm and learned of the free vet service and immediately, on a weekend was able to have my pet receive a shot for the tape worm and learned that fleas cause this problem. Having learned all of this after just seeing the Vet, I knew it was time to make a change. I called the Point Reyes Veteterinary Hospital and two days later took my beloved pet to her new doctor.. with an extremely thorough exam and a detailed explanation of the bump on my kitties tail and recommendation for flea management, I was more than happy to drive the extra miles to asure my pet the care she deserves. The flea medication worked so well and within a few weeks my beloved pet was feeling relief and happy to be enjoying life again. The Veterinary Hospital even took the time to call to see how my kitty was doing after the application of the initial flee medication/control was administered. Needless to say...I can not say enough good things about this Veterinary Hospital. They are, and will always remain, a deeply appreciated and highly respected treasure of the West Marin Community. Mary Whitney and all the staff at Point Reyes Anaimal Hospital took excellent care of my Maggie. She had many visits there over the years and the care was always thoughtful and professional. Amanda and Lauren saved Maggie's life once when they heard a " funny noise". They checked on her and found her struggling to breathe. She was having a sudden episode of laryngeal paralysis. She was rescued, treated and diagnosed, and I took her home that night with monitoring equipment. It was very dramatic and one of several emergency visit adventures we had. They care we had was excellent and I am very grateful to them for being there. Read Less

I've been using the Point Reyes Animal Hospital for over 10 years now. They don't have some of the fancier machines or free coffee in the waiting room, or mood music while you wait. What they do have are great doctors and a compassionate staff. Dr. Whitney has helped me with some tough decisions. She is happy to refer you out when you need major care (leg reconstruction on a pet dog) and does a great job of seeing what is best for you and your pet. Her prices are fair and her care is top notch. If I didn't live in town I would drive over the hill to get here. Please pm me if you have any questions. Read Less

Mary Whitney is a first-rate professional animal doctor and a kind-hearted person. She has helped me work through multiple animal crises from family pets to farm animals. I can't say enough nice things about her willingness to help me weigh the pros and cons of various  situations. Mary really cares about people and animals. You couldn't ask for more from a small town vet, and by saying that I don't mean she isn't first rate compared to "big city" practices as well. I really appreciate her intelligence and partnership. The staff are kind and supportive in the same way. Many thumbs up!!! We are blessed in this small town to have the top notch folks we have serving us. Read Less

After my dog was vaccinated for Kennel cough, she stayed at Dr Whitney's kennel about a month later. She stayed for 10 days and on the 11th day (1 day after picking her up), she had kennel cough (confirmed by blood tests). From other vets, they say that the virus has a 2-5 day incubation period. Dr Whitney says 5-10 days. But no matter. It is mathematically impossible for my dog to NOT have gotten the virus from their kennel. This was a Sunday. Dr Whitney wasn't open and didn't have an emergency number. I took my dog to another vet  who treated her. When I called Dr Whitney, she said my dog must have gotten it somewhere else? Where? She was with YOU!Defending her faulty math and logic, Dr Whitney wouldn't take any responsibility for my dog's sickness, wouldn't help in the treatment, wouldn't even pay the bill for the other vet who treated her for the virus caught at Dr Whitney's kennel. So I had to choke down the $200 bill for the treatment. In my book, this isn't a practitioner who I would want to use, nor would I want this sort of dishonesty in my community. Beware. Read Less
