My 14.5 year old cat Butters became ill last week. Due to his age and apparent condition, I was fairly certain that he was very close to the end of his life, which of course was heartbreaking, however I felt it would be best to take him to see a vet just in case I was wrong and maybe it was just an abscessed tooth or something that could be treated. By his appearance, the smell of infection, and the change in his behavior, I knew it would be best for me to begin to prepare myself for the worst, however I am not a professional, so i took him to see a veterinary doctor to rule out the possibility that I was wrong. I ended up following the directions to Pomona Valley Vet Hospital by mistake, but had initially planned to go to Pomona Veterinary Hospital. This may have been one of the biggest mistakes I had ever made. When I arrived and realized I was not at the place I meant to go to, I decided to go in since I was already there and ask if they accepted walk-ins. I was the only pet owner there, and in retrospect maybe I should have seen that as a sign that it was not the best place to bring my best friend, however I was not expecting good news, so it didn't matter to me who was delivering it. The doctor came in and I told him what was going on and he took his temperature and began to examine him. I specifically asked if he thought that there was any chance that my cat would recover or if I should just accept his fate. What he said to me gave me hope that he would recover after an overnight stay including iv fluids and antibiotics and a blood test to rule out any invisible condition that could be making him sick. I walked in there prepared to hear the worst, knowing that my cat was not going to live much longer. So if I knew he was going to die, this doctor also had to know that he would die. But even so, he gave me false hope because false hope would lead to me coughing up nearly 500.00 to give my cat what I thought he needed to survive because he was supposed to be the professional, so of course I would follow his recommendation for treatment if it would save his life. What pet owner wouldn't do whatever it took to save their best friend? Five hundred dollars, to me, is a lot of money. But I would have paid any amount to save my cat, because I truly believed that he had reached the end until the vet falsely led me to believe otherwise. When I consented to the treatment, they quickly whisked my cat away without even allowing me to say goodbye to him and called me to the front desk to leave a 300.00 dollar deposit and told me to return just before 10:00am the following day to avoid incurring more charges. So I left much happier than I had been when I arrived. I returned the following morning expecting to pick up my cat and was asked to have a seat to wait for the doctor. He finally came out and called me into the exam room where I thought he was going to go over the results of the blood test and give me instructions for any medication I may need to administer at home. Instead he proceeded to tell me that Butters didn't make it. That he had a gagging fit in the morning, then stopped gagging, then after a while had another gagging fit followed by a seizure followed by his death. I was in shock and in tears and all I could think was to ask to take his body home to bury him to avoid even further costs. He said he would prepare him and put him in a box. I was then called back to the front desk to pay the remaining balance. I was too upset to object at the time, but wish that I had. I guess I was afraid they wouldnt give me his body. Instead of in a box, they put his nody in a very thin plastic bag and placed him in my cat carrier that I had brought him in. I left. I felt as though they had not only deceived me to get hundreds of dollars out of me, but had also been extremely heartless by choosing not to notify me of his condition not only not improving but becoming worse. They should have let me be with him. It kills me that he died alone in a strange place. They are awful. Stay away from that heartless place. Rip off artists. Read Less

DO NOT COME HEREMy dog had issues with his kidneys. I went on a Saturday when Dr. Khan is off. So the stand in doctor couldn't tell me anything on what to do with my dog. When Dr. Khan finally came in he was more informative but by then I had already spent hundreds of dollars that his stand in doctor had me pay. Then Khan said he couldn't fix my dogs issue because he isn't specialized in the issues my dog had, so basically waisted time there, when off the bat I should have been directed to a better doctor. So I went to Inland Valley Vet in Upland and by far they were bettrr. If your in the area go here. So much better and straight forward. So after the doctor referred to a better place then his office, he promised he would send my whole file to new office. I had to call and call and he didn't even send the whole file, and I think it's cause he knew they didn't properly treat my dog and still charged me a lot. Money comes and goes so I paid him but now I know not to go there again. And the 2 Mexican nurses had the nerve to tell my wife that we are spending way too much on my dog knowing that I wasn't getting the proper treatment Read Less

I have a 3 year old cat and we live in West Covina. Initially I took my cat to a local vet and was very unsatisfied. I decided to bring him to Dr. Khan and it was the best decision I could make for my little furry baby. I always get appointments on time and they manage to fit me in their schedule even if I try making last minute appointment. They always send e mail reminders about upcoming vaccinations needed. My cat is an indoor cat but sometimes he tries to sneak outside. One time he sneaked out and was beat up brutally by other stray cats. He had bruises and high fever. I personally didn't think he would make it. Dr. Khan was very kind, he examined him, suggested surgery.  I picked up my cat next day looking much better! I truly believe Dr. Khan has an amazing bond with our pets and I highly recommend Pomona valley vetenary hospital to everyone. Read Less

I've been here before & never had a bad experience. Decide to finally give a review after my most recent experience. My chihuahua was attacked by a much larger dog & I took her here because it's the closest vet to my house. They gave her prompt & excellent care. For the next 4 weeks she had a large open wound that could not be stitched close because the surrounding skin was damaged. The staff had me bring my dog in every day to clean the wound & monitor her progress. And Dr. Khan discusses her progress with me each time I came. I paid for her initial care, antibiotics & topical wound care gel, but they never charge me for any of the daily wound cleaning visits. My dog loved the staff. I'm very grateful for them for helping make the whole ordeal a little easier to bear. Read Less

I always am honest and forth write when writing reviews.  If you have issues such as unknown ' s or emergencies, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE..!!  Dr. Khan is a very nice man...but, as a knowledgeable Vet, he really needs to catch up and stay current with his Practice. His Staff is very helpful and caring.  If your taking your Furry Kids there for Wellness upkeep, he can do that.  My poor little Max (Yorkie) had issues that should have been referred to a Specialist, right away..!!  Instead, some $765 dollars later, I was told to "Hope and Pray" for the best...and I felt that Dr. Khan had washed his hands of the whole situation instead of doing everything he possibly could to help Max.By the time we got Max to a Specialist, it was too late.  He had to be Euthanized the same day.  His life could have been prolonged a bit more and made more comfortable if Dr. Khan had been more proactive. Please think twice before coming here.  Our pets bring joy to our hearts....and I would hope you would want a Vet, who feels the same.  Dr. Khan seems to be in this simply for the money. I found a Siamese mix kitten that was approx 6 weeks old. She was in pretty bad shape and decided to take her to the local vet before we brought her home. When we arrived we were treated poorly by the receptionist. The wait time was about 20 mins and the vet walked in and just picked her up, determined the sex, and diagnosed her with the flu. He did not bothered to swab her mouth, and said that besides the flu she was ok. We asked him to give her a shot and prescribe medicine. Well 2 weeks later after following the treatment, the kitten is still sneezing, vomiting, lethargic and found she has worms in her stool, because of this i decided to take her to banfield pet hospital. Turns out he misdiagnosed the problem and the kitten has a more serious respiratory infection. I returned to the office and asked for my cat back, he was returned to me regretingly. I walked out I recieved a bill for 400.00 for services rendered! They did absolutely nothing to help him and still had the nerve to bill me. I took him to another vets where he was treared and returned in two days. Bart lived to be 13 before high blood pressure blinded him. I had him in my life and took care of him for two more years, he got cancer in his jaw @ the point I could no longer keep him healthy, feeding him by spoon, I had to have him put to rest. My husband noticed blood in our cat's urine one night while cleaning his litter box and we brought our cat in the next morning. After an exam revealed an empty bladder, we were told our cat would need to be hydrated (with an IV) so a sample could be collected. When we returned to pick him up, Dr. Kahn was very patient in explaining what had happened to our beloved cat. He was very thoughtful and even drew pictures so we could better understand what had happened. We learned that he had Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease and basically had crystals in his bladder that were irritating the lining and causing the blood that was present in his urine. We were also informed that we were very lucky to have caught this as early as we did, because if left untreated, it could have resulted in much worse conditions. After taking our cat home, I had to call back twice to obtain advice and the staff were more than helpful and very reassuring. Two days later, our kitty is back to his normal self and we couldn't be happier! Thank you to Dr. Kahn and his wonderful staff. This is a really long review, but well worth a read if you are considering bringing your dog here. They are incompetent, they lie to you in order to extort money, engage in illegal practices, and are only obsessed with money. After my dog had some blood work done last May, Dr. Khan advised that my dog start on some thyroid medication after the test showed his levels were slightly below normal. After paying hundreds of dollars for the tests and his allergy medication, we were tapped out and declined to purchase it from the animal hospital at that time. My dog had his booster shots early January and again, the vet recommended we start him on thyroid medication. I did a little research and about a month ago I discovered that they were selling the same thyroid medication online for about 90% cheaper. So I phoned the vet and asked him to write a prescription out for me so I could purchase the medication online.First, they told me that they would have to charge 15 dollars just to write the prescription, even though we had already paid for the diagnosis, tests, and visit. Despite what an obvious scam this was, I arrived at the vet prepared to pay. Now, they changed their story. A woman named Clarissa (the vet assistant) told me and my sister that the tests were too old, and they could not LEGALLY write a prescription anymore without another $130 round of blood tests. However, if we were to purchase the medication from them (at a 1000% markup), they wouldn't need to do the blood tests again. This was absolutely ridiculous to me. Either they were illegally withholding a prescription I had paid for or they were offering to illegally sell me outdated medication. It took a five minute call to the Veterinary Medical Board where Dr. Parlan advised me of the truth: Not only were blood tests for hypothyroidism good for up to a year, they are by California law required to write a prescription for any medication that they dispense. She even gave the the number of their business and profession code, 4107, that stated these facts. My sister and I returned to the vet the next day with this information, and we could not believe what they had to say. They were STILL adamant that they could not give us a prescription unless we paid them for more tests or bought the medication there. I challenged Clarissa on why she had told us it was illegal to give us the prescription but not illegal to sell it to us, and she had nothing to say but insist that we were wrong. My sister questioned her on what law she was quoting the day before, and she simply replied "I don't know it." We advised her that it was very shady to make up laws to enforce their own policies, and that it only took us a single phone call to their licensing board to find the law stating that they were illegally withholding my dog's prescription from us. Again, she had nothing to say. After refusing the prescription again, we asked to speak to Dr. Khan directly. She told us no. It was unbelievable. Finally, I pulled out my phone and called the Veterinary Board again, and asked them to explain the laws that they were breaking directly to Clarissa. After another pointless ten minutes of her arguing with their licensing board, they told her what we already knew: They were illegally withholding the prescription from us. They had no choice but to finally write us the prescription, and I also made them give us my dog's medical records as well, because there is no way I would ever return there again. So, sorry for the long review, but I truly feel that this practice does a disservice to animals and owners alike. They lied to us about needing new tests (to extort money from us), they made up a fake law to keep from writing a prescription we had paid for, and they offered to go around all these fake roadblocks if we gave them more money. So please, don't bring your pet here unless you want to be seen as potential victims they can steal from. Read Less

I did a little research and about a month ago I discovered that they were selling the same thyroid medication online for about 90% cheaper. So I phoned the vet and asked him to write a prescription out for me so I could purchase the medication online. This is when everything just went crazy. First, they told me that they would have to charge 15 dollars just to write the prescription, even though we had already paid for the diagnosis, tests, and visit. She told us no, and when we asked why, she didn't say anything. Read Less

I was very disappointed with my visit here. I wasn't sure but I thought my puppy was sick. I saw the doctor and he wasn't sure so he wanted to observe my dog for three hours and give him fluids (What water?). I was worried so I agreed. Before leaving I asked how much the observation would cost and the receptionist said $350!!! That is just crazy. I told the receptionist "No thank you!" and paid for the doctors visit ($45 dollars). I took my dog home and by the end of the night he was fine. It is so sad when all people think about is money. I will never go back to Pomona Valley Veterinary.

There was one staff member I believe her name is Michelle she was a sweet heart, to professional to be working here.  The other staff member loudly stated "I'm not touching that dog" and threw me the muzzle to put on him. Earlier the same staff member asked another client how old his cat was and when he responded she rolled her eyes.  I can only imagine how the vet is if they allow this behavior.  Worst vet experience I have had. I have taken my pets to Dr. Kahn since it became my  job to take care of my own pets.  He has always been great with my animals.  He always takes the time to explain what he is going to do, why it needs to be done and what to expect after it is over.  He even draws pictures to make sure I understand him, (though I must say his accent is not that bad anymore, he is very easy to understand these days).  He has always worked with me as far as price goes.  I had a dog who needed a lot of care and several surgies throughout his lifetime and Dr. Kahn made sure there was a way for me to be able to afford to get Charlie the care he needed.  I have never had a problem dealing with this vet. If they treat people this bad, just think how bad they'd treat your pet when you're not looking. You furry friend has no one to tell =(

Read Less

They are incompetent, they lie to you in order to extort money, engage in illegal practices, and are only obsessed with money.I have been coming to Pomona Valley Veterinary Hospital for 11 years with my dog, Link. I chose them because they were local. I don't trust them to care for my dogs. Read Less

I am a regular client at Pomona Valley. the staff is great, they always answer all my questions. As soon as I walk in I can see the hospital is clean all the time, it smells great (unbelievably), as for the Dr. he is great as well, I feel confident when leaving my pets. Even when the Dr. is on vacation, there is always a Dr. that is good to fill in, and I know I get the same care, because of the helpfull staff. The prices are not too bad, a little pricey at times, but well worth it. Great quality... Read Less
