I have had my animals with Doctor Sheer for 25 + years. I had not had a pet when I went there and he patiently showed me as well as told me what to do for my new puppy. Over the years I have come to trust his skill as well as his integrity. I would recommend this practice and Dr. Sheer to anyone who wants a caring, honest and skilled veterinarian to help their beloved pets. He will tell you the truth and his compassion extends to the owners as well as the animals in his care. You will never find a more helpful, caring and efficient animal hospital than Henderson Veterinary Hospital. Read Less

It's sad to read all the previous reviews regarding this vet because we had a great experience. We took in our cat about a year ago because he had an abscess on the side of his mouth. It was drained, however, it kept filling back up with fluid. We took our cat back and the doctor told us we needed to be a little more aggressive with the draining process. We ended up taking him back a few more times to make sure that the abscess was draining as it should and that it wasn't getting bigger anymore. They never charged us for getting him checked up only the one time payment we had made when the abscess was initially drained which I thought was nice because they could have easily charged us a fee everytime our cat was checked up on. They were also very prompt with calling us back and letting us know what was going on with our cat. A couple weeks after the whole ordeal, they even gave us a call to see how our cat was doing which was really impressive. 5 stars for excellent animal care and customer service. Read Less

I moved to Porterville from Northern California not too long ago but was lucky to not need a vet for our beloved pets. Recently our Coco (mixed medium breed dog) was acting weird and experiencing tremors. I needed a vet and went to Yelp. I was hesitant based on the reviews but saw that the previous reviewers complained about customer service, not the quality of the medical care. I took a chance and Coco and I are so glad we did! Amazing people from the front office to the doctor. Highly recommend and so happy I now have a wonderful vet nearby Read Less

If I could give a negative star rating for this place , I surely would as it would definitely reflect our unbelievably horrible experience with this place.  We took our dog here to get a growth on her paw checked out.  We took her in on 7/20 and was told that the growth is a tumor.  We were given 2 choices: to have her undergo surgery to remove the tumor or let her live it out because she was already up in years and eventually put her down once she starts suffering from complications.  We opted for the surgery even if we didn't have a lot of money, we were going to do whatever it takes to keep her a little bit longer.  During the exam, they had asked if our dog had undergone a surgery before.  We had told them that she had a surgery before at another hospital.  A red flag that was raised was when they asked how much it cost us.  What??!  How was that relevant to our dog's diagnosis?  VERY, VERY SHADY.  Before leaving, we were given a verbal estimate of about $500 to have the surgery done.  A few days later, the price went up to almost $800.  Mind you, this still was not the final estimate and nothing was in writing.  We raised however much we could and scheduled an appointment so we could get the surgery out of the way although we were still not given a final estimate.  Every time we called, we were told that "the doctor [was] very busy" and that they would call us with the estimate.  They told us this on a Thursday (7/28) and the appointment for the surgery is next Tuesday (8/2) (first thing in the morning) hoping we would get an estimate by then.  I mean after all, it had already been more than a week after the initial exam, we figured we would surely hear back from them regarding an estimate.  Monday (8/1) came and still no word.  We called for an update and were told that the doctor was very busy and that they have no estimate yet.  I was advised to call around noon to find out if an estimate is available.  Knowing that some places charge a fee if an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours, we cancelled our dog's appointment as we still did not know how much we would need to pay for the surgery.  They had changed the estimated cost twice already.  We were not going to wait until after the surgery has been performed before finding out how much money we would have to dole out.  Anyone in their right mind would want, no, NEED to know how much they are expecting to pay before anything is done so that we can still say "No, we can't afford that" instead of waiting after it is done and we can no longer refuse a surgery that has already been performed!  Apparently, 12 days is not enough to issue an estimate.  We cancelled the appointment and found out later that they were also not going to issue an estimate.  Do we need to make an appointment for a surgery in order to get an estimate?  Shouldn't that be the other way around?  We felt like they were trying to extract as much money as possible.  Oh, and the funny thing about this whole thing, is that the vet had misdiagnosed the growth when we had taken our dog in to have it checked out months before.  They told us that it was just an infection and all we had to do was clean the paw.  The same vet checked it out this time around and now it's a tumor.  DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT YOUR PET CARED FOR.  If they do not know how to care for customers, I'm very doubtful they would know how to care for pets.Oh, and I should have checked out their Yelp page before going there.  This would've been such a useful warning.  You can tell by the 1-star rating that customer service is not their forte. Our family dog (a large breed) had a chronic ear ache. Rather than allow us to come in and attend an appt. with him, we were told we had to leave our dog for the day with the clinic. We left him with the clinic approx. 8:20am, and were told we could pick him up at about 4:00pm. At 1:30 the clinic called, and said that they needed permission to sedate our dog, (when permission had already been signed off that morning). At 2:30, the clinic called again, and told us that although they had sedated our dog, they could not work with him, and asked us to come and pick him up. Upon arrival, we found our dog in a very small cage, that smelled of vomit, he acted scared, yet happy to see us. We asked them why they didn't use a muzzle to examine our dog. The response was, , "We forgot to." That is not only unprofessional, but uncaring. Also, if my dog had been properly sedated for his size, weight, etc., he would not have been able to walk out with us so easily. Any knowledgeable, experienced veterinarian hospital should know how to properly sedate a dog according to their size. Our dog went home with no medicine, with his ear still aching, and to our surprise a mouth injury due to an apparent struggle with someone at the clinic (ie. rope, leash, etc) as per what we were told by one of the clinic employees. We will never use or recommend this clinic for pets again. Read Less
