My Shi Tsu wasn’t feeling well for 2 days so I decided to take her to Canyon Lakes Animal Hospital on a Thursday. They gave me a same day appointment which I appreciated. After driving 35minutes to get there the Vet tech checked her over, took her temperature and called the Dr in. He walked in, put a stethoscope against her and said she has Colitis. Dr was with me maybe 2 minutes. They sent me home with 2 prescriptions and said call next week. The next day she wasn’t any better. Saturday morning she was even worse. I called but they were closed. I knew I couldn’t wait until Monday so I found a vet in Murrieta that was open. They got me right in and with in 30 seconds the tech after my explanation picked up my dogs tail and pointed out that my dog had a ruptured anal gland. I left her for the rest of the day to be cleaned up and given a long acting antibiotic and pain meds. She is much better now but my question is how did I they misdiagnose something so obvious while the were taking the dogs temperature. I would like to express my very disappointing experience with this office. I brought my dog in to have a check-up and to get an estimate on what they would charge to help her with the issue she was having. Once they explained the costs I asked them for a few minutes to make a phone call. After looking over the estimate and talking with a family member, I realized that I didn’t have the money to go ahead with the procedure. I explained to them that I was sorry but needed to leave and come back with the money. When they heard this, their response to me was, Don’t Bother to come back because that estimate is a one-time offer and after that appointment there was nothing they would do to help me or my dog. I was extremely offended and thought they were so unprofessional and Was thankful that I didn’t have the money for the procedure and extremely thankful that I did not leave my precious dog in their care for treatment!!!! I urge everyone to reconsider taking their precious pet to this establishment because obviously the only thing that matters to them is money and profit, not the well being of your pet. Read Less

IM ONLY PICKING A STAR RATING CAUSE IT KEEPS TELLING ME TOO!Let me explain why I wouldnt give u a damn star. Today Monday the 15th of May 2017 i had and appointment at 3:40 for my pitbull" which they knew was a pimple when I called the few days earlier they said they were Pitbull friendly. I understand the whole pitbull thing but at the end of the day it's still a sick dog that needs medical attention. I took him back to the room when I got there. I'm not sure if the doctor was dr. Robertson or dr. Lane because when he walked in he did not tell us who he was. He just came in saying that my dog needed to be put to sleep so he can continue in the most rude way possible, which was Fine me so I told him okay you can put in your sleep for now so you can do the check up I signed the papers so thet couls Sleep him. Then one of the nurses comes to the room and tells us that they're going to put him asleep outside...??? Yea thats what i said. Then we take my pitbull outside then the doctor comes out and tells me all we're not going to take him so take him elsewhere. And just so you know I already paid for them to check my dog. did they check him??? No! So I told him okay fine I put my dog in my car and I told my mom to go ask them for my money back since they didn't even take my dog. They gave my dog a muzzle when we first got there the doctor yelled at my mom and asked her if that was their muzzle that my dog was wearing so she said yes and he repeatedly yelled I need it back now..... while we were still outside the vet. I'm sorry but this is not a professional way to handle things if you are not going to take pitbulls please don't say your Pitbull friendly and don't ever disrespect anyone who has a pitbull to you it might be just a dog but too as part of our family I will never ever go to your vet again or recommend anybody to go there that has a pitbull. My pitbull is not dangerous you put a muzzle on him how about we put a muzzle on your mouth let's see how you like it. Took my Doberman in for drastic wieght loss.. After testing, we found out his kidneys were shutting down. They admitted him and he improved enough to come home. Dr. Shell explained everything and walked us through the aftercare. He sent us home with enough meds to get us through until we could get to a pharmacy. Everyone was very helpful! Do not go to this vet! My mother and I have both had bad experiences and we will never take our pets here again. I went to get my dog her shots. The receptionist informed us that because a vet hadn't seen my dog in a year she had to have a appt with a vet before she could get her shots. Why? My dog is perfectly healthy which is exactly what the vet said when she finally saw my dog. The visit took twice as long as I had anticipated and was three times as expensive! My great dane came down with cherry eye..Canyon Lake animal clinic did the operation...right off the bat they decided to remove the lid that came dislodged as this is what cherry eye is..after the surgery she was getting worse..and in doing my own research discovered removal of the lid should be a last resort...as her eye got worse I brought her back in about a week or so after surgery..a tech..not even a doctor took her in the back..cleaned her eye and brought her out with her eye bleeding and told me to just continue drops that had previously been described....was told healing was roughly a month...so I waited even though I knew it was not improving..took her back in today 5.6.16 ..her eye looks just like it did before surgery...they wanted to charge me a doctor's visit...so not only did I pay for the surgery to have the eye corrected..which it was not..they wanted me to foot the bill for a follow up appointment for a surgery not done well...as I refused to pay I asked for the name of an eye specialist...of course only the doctor could give me that and only when I paid for the visit..2 min of this doctors time..I told them no and I will find my own specialist..which in the end is probably the way to go....shame on me if I take an opinion from a lousy vet..worst customer service..Read Less

I saw the doctor twice and each time my dog was either diagnosed with something unrelated and sent home or treated with medicine that did not solve the root problem. Because of this my dog went totally blind and could not find me or the dog door anymore and is now deceased. She was only 9 years old. When I had gone to the vet for routine shots, etc. I was happy with them but when there was a bigger issue, I did not feel that she. got the thorough exam she needed. My cat became seriously ill yesterday when my regular vet was not open. I brought my cat, Gordy, to Dr Robinson on the recommendation of a friend. My cat's emergency threw off Dr Robinson's schedule of exams and surgeries. I extend my apology to the pets and owners who waited while Dr Robinson saved my cat's life. My mom took her 6yr old Yorkshire Terrier to Dr Shell Dee Robertson early spring of this year. It has taken me this long to write a review because we have been so upset. To begin with the front office staff is rude and seemed bothered by any questions. Not welcoming at all. I wish that was the worst of it. My mom dropped her little dog off early morning for what she were told was an easy routine knee surgery. She told the staff that her little dog was very anxious. Hoping that she could have her operation done early in the day. She was put into a crate and left for 6 hours before it was her turn. When they finally called my mom to let her know that her dog was "done" they informed her that she was barking and upset so they gave her a valium before the surgery. They then put her under anesthesia and performed the ACL on her knee. She wasn't "waking up" and we were told there were some problems. My mom rushed in to find her dog hooked up to a machine, tube down her throat, rapid heartbeat, eyes wide open, non responsive!!!! She wasn't coming out of her anesthesia!! Dr Robertson "let" my mom sit with her dog for HOURS, waiting for her to wake up. He told her that her heart had STOPPED and they had to revive her. Dr Robertson told my mom while she sat there with her sweet little pet that he did not want to answer any more of her questions!! That he was very busy with finishing his paperwork. He was going on VACATION the next day and didn't want to be interrupted!! My moms dogs heart stopped AGAIN while she was there. He revived her again. Holding her upside down and shaking her! My mom of course was distraught. The clinic was closing soon and she asked what she should do. Dr Robertson told her to take the dog to the animal hospital. As he was walking out (when HE was ready) to transport the dog for her, her little heart stopped AGAIN!! They rushed her back inside, revived her again. In the meantime while my mom was in tears, Dr Robertson's wife was sure to ask my mom for PAYMENT!! She wasn't thinking clearly and handed over her debt card. $900.00 later they arrived at the emergency vets office. They dropped the dog and my mom and headed out to go on holiday. The animal hospital staff were lovely. Treated my mom and her dog very kindly. My moms dog died that night.... The hospital staff told my mom that too much time had passed and her tiny body couldn't take any more stress.... We NEVER heard from Dr Robertson or his staff. No apology. No checking in to see what happened to their patient. NOTHING. Do i need to say this was a HORRIBLE experience? They are currently denying ever giving the dog a valium and take zero responsibility for any wrong doing. The woman who my mom spoke to told her that if we wrote anything negative about our experience that they would contact their lawyer!! They continue to be unkind on the phone. We are only writing our review to save anyone else from possibly having to endure this kind of hardship. Our hearts are forever broken. Read Less

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. my family has tolerated the 1 or 2 employees who seem to resent being bothered by customers coming through the front door, for long enough. But, THANK YOU to the fabulous gals who are so so friendly, patient, and helpful on the phones! I have never found negative reviews of any business to be true, until this one. Management, instead of making excuses for the rude treatment of customers by 1 or 2 employees who should not be in customer service, why don't you demand that EVERYONE represents your business positively? Dr. Robertson and his staff have been our vet of choice for our 10 pets since 2000. We have never had a negative thing happen on any of our visits and Dr. Shell has been beyond professional in every respect. He is caring and attentive and we absolutely wouldn't go anywhere else. The fees have never been excessive at the CL Animal Clinic and I would never go anywhere else for vet services unless Dr. Shell retired. Read Less

I Have been a pet owner for 26 years and I have never had such a horrible experience with any animal clinc/hospital. CL animal clinic has the most unhelpful vet staff with the worst attitudes. The vet did a spay on our 6 month old puppy. 2 days later her Stichs were falliing apart and the incision showed signs of a infection. We took her to the CL, it was closed because it was a Saturday. Unfortunately CL clinic is closed on the weekends and we had to take her to the animal hospital. The infection was so bad that she needed another surgery ($709). when I contacted the CL vet on Monday to ask why this would happen the vet would not talk to me. I could only talk to the front staff. I asked if we could be refunded our spay seeing that the surgery had to be redone they refused to compensate us at all. They The customer service is horrible. I was told I would get a call back that I never received. Kevin (the receptionist) refused to give the phone # for the vet board and hung up on me. Dr. Robertson has been our chosen Dr. for our pets for about 13 years. He did surgery on my dogs leg as a puppy after another vet said our dog would never walk correctly. Our dog is 13 years old and runs. Dr. Robertson was very helpful in sharing the knowledge of having a puppy with my kids and taught them the responsibility they were expected to accomplish. I brought my puppy (which I owned since he was born and that had been vaccinated at the facility three times) in to Canyon Lake Animal Clinic because he had lost his appetite and began to throw up.

Dr. Robertson ran a test and identified the puppy's illness to be a result of contracting the Parvo Virus. He informed me that it was going to be roughly $500.00 for the first day to get the puppy started on the road to recovery, and I gladly paid it. I called in the first day of his stay and was informed that my puppy was doing fine and I would likely be able to take him home after the weekend.

However, on Saturday when I called, the doctor had me hold while he switched phones. Then he informed me in hushed tones that over night the IV had caused the vain in my dog's leg to explode. However, that wasn't what killed him; as per the doctor, someone set the puppy's cage up incorrectly, and he was able to crawl to the edge of the cage that didn't have hot water bottles lining the bottom of the cage for warmth and he got cold as he bled out and died. Can you imagine what an agonizing death that was!? Freezing and bleeding to death ALL ALONE!

I was horrified. At that point, I drove down to the facility to pick up my puppy's remains so that I could burry them on my property. When I got to Canyon Lake Small Animal Clinic, obviously upset over the terrible way that the puppy died and the doctor's blatant stupidity, one of the female staff members there asked me if I wanted her to take him out of the PLASTIC BAG before she gave him to me to wrap in his blanket! These people do not care about your animals, they only care about money. For the sake of your animal(s), please avoid Canyon Lake Animal Clinic and Dr. Shell Robertson. Read Less
