I will absolutely never return to this place. My initial visit was fine, but when I followed up for blood test results, as instructed by the staff, I was yelled at by the Owner Ms Rea. After a tirade of non sense from her about how I’m not the only one with a sick dog, and how she has no control over how long the lab test take, I was finally able to explain (to someone else as she just handed the phone off when she was done yelling at me) that I was calling back because that’s what I was instructed to do. No one seemed surprised when I told them Ms Rea chewed me out, which leads me to believe this is a common occurrence. Definitely some crazyness going on here with all these women working together. I was even accused of calling someone a liar? Which was asburd and entirely untrue. I got attacked for absolutely no reason. Extremely Unprofessional. I couldn’t believe that my dogs health was being ignored and I was being accosted by the owner. One of the vets called back to apologize, but no apology from the owner Ms Rea. Apparently there was a “miscommunication”, but in my eyes still no excuse to behavior like this, from the owner no less. Highly advise taking your pet somewhere else. Read Less

I'm new to the area and had scoped out vets on Yelp ahead of time, and planned on giving them a try for routine care. My Chihuahua had other plans! She had an accident, and ingested food and medication that was poisonous for her. I immediately rushed her here, hoping to avoid a costly emergency visit.The staff at Redwood was phenomenal. With no appointment on a Monday morning and no open rooms, they ushered me and my dog to the back and treated her immediately. They took amazing care of her, and she returned home that afternoon. I wish I could recommend the vet by name, but I didn't catch it in all the worry. She was great though, down to earth, compassionate, and most importantly, quick in an emergency!This will definitely be our choice for care going forward! Read Less

Dr. Kim Rea and the incredible staff at Redwood Animal Hospital saved my dog's life! Whisper became very ill and had to stay in the hospital for several days. We weren't sure if he was going to make it but Dr. Rea and her staff gave him the best care, going above and beyond and never gave up. A special thanks Meghan for the home cooked chicken when Whisper wouldn't eat anything else. Very pleasant staff. Through examination for my Frankie. I brought him in for a lump I found. I was so worried. The doctor reassured me she thought was benign but would check all options. She aspirated it & she was right. She also checked temperature, throat, teeth gums, paws, ears etc. I left feeling he was well taken care of. Here are the reasons I come to Redwood: Buddy, Ozzy, Izzy, Tiny, Skitty, Dio: and others that have passed into the great scampering place in the sky... Dr. Rhea is compassionate as well as the rest of the vets I have seen. I've been coming her for about 13 years since I moved to North Torrance. Great staff and Animal Doctors! The prices there are reasonable  even though these are our beloved furry critters and veterinarian medicine is much more specialized.When my kitty Tiny became terminal the extra compassion and caring we were shown was incredible.Thank you Guys. We love this animal hospital! The doctors & staff are amazing--we always feel taken care of, even in the waiting room. We see Dr. Suyehara, and she really takes the time to answer all of our questions. She is thorough and warm, follows-up with lab results, and calls to ask about the well-being of our dog, if she happens to come in with issues. We don't ever feel rushed, and the doctor is great with handling our sometimes skittish dog. Love love love this hospital! Read Less

I have been coming here for over a decade. First started with my previous pet, Max who they care for throughout his lifetime and were great. Even some of the staff members have been there just as long if not longer which is very comforting. Now, I come here for my nephew Titus. He always gets loveable greetings and thoroughly looked at for whatever the case may be. The staff always calls to follow-up the next day after his visit which just shows you the amount of care they pride themselves in. My baby Duchess Phaedra is boarding here for the 2nd time in a row. This place is awesome. The vet is thorough and the techs and pet handlers are knowledgeable and very supportive. My husband and I are new to pet parenting and RAH has made the last month wonderful.We were not happy with the prior vet, and stayed with them too long because of our lack of ownership experience.Now I'm very happy.....prior to reading yelp reviews about this place, and trusting other clients to influence our change, we knew what we were experiencing was not quite right.Here's to very accurate comments. I took my dog in for a dental cleaning yesterday and the staff is awesome! I took her in, filled out her paperwork and they took her in. After her procedure was finished, they called to tell me she's waking up and recovering. Afterwards I had the follow up with Megan. Megan the RT is THE BEST! She answered all of my questions, is super enthusiastic and friendly,  and went into detail about what went down. She showed me the x-rays and went through possible problems that can come up with dog teeth. She also showed me the before and after pictures that they took, and man, am I happy!! It's like they did a dog teeth whitening. They got rid of all of her plaque and her breath smells so fresh and so clean (it smelled pretty gnarly before). My pup was pretty groggy after, as most dogs are, and they called me the next day to follow up on how she's doing which I really appreciate. Only reason they didn't get five stars is the price and because they only do dental cleanings on WEDNESDAYS... So inconvenient! I had to leave work early to go and get her... In traffic! I have been bringing my pets to Redwood for years and they are still, by far, the kindest staff I have ever met.  It's clear that they truly love and care about animals.  However, they are also very professional and know how to communicate with people.  It might sound a little silly, but a few of the vets I've dealt with in the past simply don't know how to interact with humans!  They either condescend to you or don't know how speak in layman's terms.  At Redwood, they speak to you like an equal and they give you options.  Dr. Rea has been especially helpful.Please give Redwood Animal Hospital a try! The staff is always friendly and professional.The staff always explains what is going on and why they are doing whatever they are doing.i have small dogs and they never seem distraught after being with them or having a procedure done. They are pretty pricey.. a simple 10 min " check up " is close to 60$ :-Othe docs are overall empathetic although bedside manners aren't has up to par as i wish they were.. and i feel like sometimes they just want to prescribe everything and anything under the blue moon.. I've had to say no to some treatments because they were a bit far fetch and didn't seem needed.Will be my vet long term and will recommend to anyone! Read Less

Cannot say enough good things about this place1. They are so nice to my puppy, Marino.  They're calming sweet behavior puts him at ease2. they always call the next day after a visit to be sure he's okay. This is more than my human doctor ever does. 3. They are so nice! I called to request a copy of Marino's records and they were there waiting for me less than 5 minutes later.  They just don't make customer service like this anymore. I was sent to Dr Rea, ironically, secretly by a Vet Tech at another Vet's office that I was using.  The Vet Tech said go see Dr. Rea, but don't say you heard it from me.  So I did.  My then 9 year old Min Pin "PONGO" was just diagnosed diabetic and had cataracts which made him blind.  He was up for expensive cataract surgery at another vet eye specialist.  So Dr Rea came in mid stream.   I cannot tell you how much I love Dr Rea.  She's not only a caring doctor and compassionate human being, but her entire staff is as well.  Pongo lived to be 16 until we sent him off to the rainbow bridge.  I can tell you he happlily lasted as long as he did because of the thorough treatment by Dr Rea and Dr Pirotto.  My other animals are also senior citizens and their age (14, 16 and 18 years old) is catching up with them.  I am at the Vet more than I'd like to be, but I am confident that they are in great hands and getting the best treatment.  Dr Rea is very thorough in her exams as well has her explanation of the diagnosis.  VERY DETAILED.  she'll answer all your questions and treat your animal as her own.Another example.  My mom has a pomeranian.  She is of old school thought that a dog is a dog and nothing more.  Her dog was only 8, but very old acting.  I offered to take her dog to Dr. Rea.  First diagnosis: thyroid meds needed.  Second diagnosis: problem in her spine causing pain.  medications prescribed.  Fast forward 3 months.  The dog is alive and well... acting like a puppy with a renewed lease on life.  So much so that my mom's neighbors thought she got a new dog!  NO joke! BEST VET IN THE SOUTH BAY. Came highly-recommended to me by a very well-known, respected, long-time vet in Manhattan Beach, Dr. DeHart (now retired). REDWOOD ANIMAL HOSPITAL always seems to go above and beyond what is required. They always call with important reminders...their front desk is extremely efficient and FRIENDLY. Their office is always CLEAN and it just has a very cute and adorable vibe to it. :) Most importantly, however, is the care my pets have received from the wonderful DR. RAE. She NEVER RUSHES YOU; she is ALWAYS CONCERNED IN A GENUINE WAY; she KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT; she is a person who you can tell BONDS WITH ANIMALS INSTANTLY. In my opinion (and I have lived in the South Bay for over 60 years and gone to many different vets), DR. When our vet retired a couple of years ago they suggested their patients see Dr. Rea.  We trusted him so we transferred our care to her. The first year was a quiet one. In November my 16 1/2 year old cat fell ill, Dr. Rea help me understand what was appropriate care before I left for Advanced Veterinary Care (this was right before Thanksgiving and she needed 24 hour care). Without her advise I would not have know when to say enough for my baby without feeling guilty.Recently our 11 year old greyhound has started having severe back problems.  Dr. Rea has been so helpful.  Cautious of our finances and again her guidance with what is appropriate care has been priceless!!!  I don't know how long he has with us but I know he is in great hands!!We also have a 9 year old cat the just went "crazy" on me.  Turns out after some tests with Dr. Rea he has a very bad back.  I can't tell you how much time Dr. Rea has spent on the phone helping me with him.  We are adding a second med to his treatment and our fingers are crossed.The other doctor there, Dr. Porotto has been such help when Dr. Rea was gone.  They are a great team!!All of the staff are helpful and friendly, you can't ask for more!!! I just moved to California and I found this clinic to be fair and compassionate. Dr. Rea spent time explaining everything and helped me understand the disease my dog was going through. I had an emergency and the staff was very helpful and I was able to come right in even though they were booked. They truley love animals and will do whatever they can for a sick dog or cat. I was called many times a day to be updated on my dogs condition and I was allowed to visit anytime. Dr. Rea saved my dogs life and I will always be greatful to her and the staff for caring so much. They did the tests that were needed and I never was overcharged. I always felt that my dogs comfort came first. Read Less

I moved out to California 3 years ago and went to this vet. The prices were very high but I thought ""maybe that's the rate in California"" ... my dog has a rare disease ""addisons"" ... that requires a lot of vet attention. This vet was requesting several visits to do what my vet back in Maryland would do in one sitting ... again I thought ""maybe this is how it is in California"". Everytime I went they were selling me their dog food or their shampoos. I make $150K a year and rescued my dog and like to spare no expense ... and they made me feel like it was a ""must"". Then after a visit that cost $400 ... typical for my visits there ... they called and said I didn't pay. I always paid after every visit. I called and told them I did pay ... they said they didn't have a record of it ... I had to find my receipt and send it to them (ridiculous). So I didn't initially ... I'm pretty busy. Then the collection mail started. I got my credit card bill and faxed it to them. They then said ""well you owe more for lab testing"" ... I said ""isn't that what I paid for when I was there? What was the $400 for if not for the lab testing?!"" They had no answer. I ended up going to Hermosa Animal hospital after 3 years of being overcharged at Redwood. Found out they charge $110 for Percortin where Redwood was charging me $180.00. Everything was dramatically less ... and the vet could do the multiple things my vet back in Maryland did. So it wasn't the way ""things were in California"" ... and the hermosa animal hospital was far more modern and clean and more pleasant to go to ... the vets were awesome and well educated.
