I had a good experience with VCA up until I brought my cat who has I believe a respiratory problem. The vet told me I would need about $1000 to do all these tests which I didn’t have at the time, but I would be able to do one another day, and she turned me away. I don’t think this place is about animals as much it is about money. I was even told to give a call back if my cat got any worse and I did. Got turned away. Shame on this Doctor Who turned me away and told me to go to a cheaper vet. Your standards as a veterinarian should be about helping the animal not having someone go somewhere else that’s a little bit cheaper. I give this place a one star. Read Less

IF YOU WANT TO KILL YOUR PET OR BE ROBBED COME HERE ... THIS HOSPITAL SHOULD BE CALLED DR. DEATH HOSPITAL All the reviews on here are true. Read them all. Read all the reviews about this hospital if you care about ur pet. Make sure to read all the bad reviews on here. In an emergency I didn't have time to think to read reviews.... this place was the worst place to bring her to. To better understand why I'm angry. My dog collapse around 7am Sunday July 21. I tried calling another emergency room but they were backed up. I didn't have time to look at reviews & was advised by the other location to bring her here. I was in a panic. Upon arriving, Diana the vet tech upon meeting her so my pet could even be checked said oh it's $600 deposit/else they won't take her back. It was an emergency I said I had cash which I did. Diana is horrible!! Who says that??? It took Dr. Khalaf a good while to find out what was wrong. She was bleeding in her abdomen internally. Spleen had a tumor and was bleeding. She said she needed surgery or she's going to die and I need to put her down. Since I said I wanted surgery she said let her run more test before surgery. Also she mentioned she would be the one doing surgery. She comes back to me more bad news on blood tests & found another tumor in her liver. Now she's not comfortable doing surgery. I'm glad she can admit this is way out of her field. She's telling me it's Sunday early morning hard to find someone good: her referral to VCA on Sepulveda ASEC ends up being a nightmare in hell. Read my review about them. Attached is a bill for 3 hours of waste of Time test that took one hour. And then her stupidity to not expedite all the paper work I needed ASAP to her referral. Dumb me I didn't know they are all part of the same corporate company! She's practicing 1959 vet meds!!! Still. Dr. Khalaf is an incompetent Doctor!!! She's over 60 years old. Veterinary medicine has advanced so much over the past decade/more. She's stuck in the twilight zone. Don't let her touch ur dog!!!!! Ever!!! Also she's the head of the Reseda location that now doesn't say a lot. Also her referral are worth shits since she only refers to VCA that they are all making money with. $$$$ it's all kick back money back and forth they don't care about ur pet. Her stupid comments are trust the vets at Asec before I left. Good luck I don't want to make u cry. She called me monday asking me how my dog was after Sunday not because she cared but to find out what happens because she's like I normally get a report, you mean a report and money for ur referral & your wondering why your not getting it. Oh I informed her when she called my dog was in surgery at a different hospital with a different surgeon & I didn't have the time to get into this with her at the moment. And when u get upset and tell the Dr. Khalaf ur experience at VCA Sepulveda location she ignores what u say & says she will keep referring. Also that I should breathe & count to 10. Maybe she should stop practicing vet medicine & this place should be shut down because read all the other yelp reviews!!!! I wouldn't bring a homeless dog here after being here, what I & Lady went through with this place & the place she referred me to & reading other people's yelp review. Dr. Khalaf is incompetent. If u want to kill your pet, waste money, time on wasteful shit, be referred to an even worst vet VCA on Sepulveda read my yelp review for that one and be raped for money and still have malpractice health care then yeah being ur pet here. When I called to complain... Elaine asked if I had a personal thing. I guess almost killing my dog isn't personal right Elaine???? Don't call to complain to Elaina she will say it's. Harassment, yet they almost killed my dog! But I'm now harassing her according to her & not allowed to complain interesting. Vanessa is incompetent so is Jason. They think they have rights but you don't & ur pets don't. Elaine said I was harassing her. Yet I guess it was ok for her office to tell me to kill my dog or cough up $13k I'm now getting threats by Elaine. I have so much more to say but let me give u a bill so u can see. Also they gave me IV fluids how would u like me to administer it since u never told me how to even use it idiot Doctor! Look at my other yelp reviews for the $13 k bill. They don't care about ur pets. They care about ur $$$$. Elaine is ...., so is Vanessa..... I would give this place a negative 10 Read the review about where Dr. Khalaf referred me to! Dr. Khalaf opinions to me was back in the day we would just euthanize these dogs. But now day there's technology and it cost a lot of money. But she clearly doesn't know technology herself and isn't up to date. Also her referrals are a horror story. And she has no compassion. She has her pitch down on what she's used to saying and she was thrown for a loop on me wanting to do surgery. This hospital is disgusting and disgraceful!!!!! It's like a death camp hospital! I witnessed a dog be struck by a suv so I took him here so they can save him and when I got to the vet, the doors were locked. I knocked on the door almost banging it down I even pressed the ringer and no one answered. It's a 24 hour place and I had to call them by phone so they can pick up, only to tell me that they are opened but can't see the dog because the doctor was on lunch. What doctor goes to lunch at 4:30am? Are you serious? After a few words some guy walks out to tell me to take him to the shelter because there's nothing they can do. I'm so mad that being a veterinarian place, they can't do anything for the poor dog? It's not even my puppy and I was mad that it being their job, they can't even take care of a animal. They guy even told me "why did you pick him up if your not even going to take him to the vet?" I was disgusted by his rudeness and for blaming me, for trying to take the dog to a place for him to be safe. If none of you people care about animals then your all in the wrong profession, learn to pick up trash and do that as a job. Don't just tell people to go away cuz your eating lunch. Y'all can go rot in heck for letting the dog walk away from your possession into the streets again just to get hit. I hope karma comes for all of you some day. Read Less

All of the vets are very knowledgeable and very kind. Even though the different vets may have different medical opinions from each other (which is normal), they ALWAYS lean on the cautious side. The price point is average (same as other vets) but the level of care is phenomenal. If you ever have an animal emergency, this is the place to go. I made the mistake of taking my pet somewhere else and they killed him with steroids. I rushed him to McClave but my dog was already in shock and dying. They all gathered around him and did everything they could do even though we all knew it was too late. Then they didn't even want to charge me for it bc my dog came in on his last breath, which was another vets fault. That was really kind of McClave. It shows that they're not about money. They saw a dying dog and they jumped to action. And it was bc they truly love animals. They didn't just do unnecessary things to try to bill me. It was the exact opposite. I insisted on paying something so I paid a drastically reduced fee for a hydration packet. I love Dr. Kooban (on staff) and as of today, I also love Dr. Jessica (the emergency vet that's not on staff). I met Jessica this morning during emergency hours with my other dog. She is REALLY smart (as is dr. Kooban). You're in excellent hands at McClave. Read Less

I would rate this place a zero if that rating was an option. My family and I were traveling when our dog became ill and had to be rushed to McClave. We were thousands of miles away and had no choice but to place our trust in them. That trust was completely misplaced. Because of the information we received, we made the difficult decision to put our family pet to sleep. Come to find out, we never received all the information we should have. The staff and veterinarians were completely insensitive and rude. Not only did they make the process extremely difficult, but they had no empathy. In addition, within a few minutes of putting our beloved dog to rest they had charged my credit card and emailed us a $1,700 bill. After weeks of trying to contact them, I finally received a call from one of their directors, who said he would look into the matter and get back to me. He never did. Horrible place! Read Less

This place is beyond horrible!!! Yesterday I brought my dog in as he ate part of a towel. He has a history of doing this and it has been noted in his file. The vet we usually go to is Dr. Sanders who is beyond amazing!! I was advised by him and others that time is critical and that he must be induced with an hour after ingestion so that his stomach can be pumped. The danger is that the item will enter intestine and cause a blockage! The vet on staff was Dr. Sour. It was specifically stated in our file that we don't ever want Dr. Sour! We were ignored and had no idea he was the doctor! Nothing was communicated to us at all!!! The bottom line is my dog was brought in as emergency and he was taken into the back making us think he was being treated. He was not being treated. After over an hour and a half we found out that Dr. Sour elected to do nothing to try and help our dog and put him in extreme danger for a possible obstruction of the intestine which could have ultimately lead to the death of a young 2 year old healthy dog. Nobody came out to tell us what was going on, not even the doctor. If he felt that he was incapable of treating my dog he should have informed us of this and we would have left immediately. ( He poorly and ineffective communicated to us) After finding out that nothing was going to be done even though, it was specifically stated in the file that my dog had been induced before. In a panic he was rushed over to another VET and he was taken in immediately. We lost value time! Dr. Sour did this on purpose and this was blatantly intentional.( not communicating to us) The doctors were in utter shock and disbelief that he had not be induced by McClave. They specifically said this could be very bad since we waited so long to treat him. He was induced but only part of the towel was recovered, he had to have an ultrasound, x-rays and today he has to have an introscope procedure! He's still in danger of a possible life threatening surgery! This is total an complete Malice on McClave's part for employing this doctor A relatively simple procedure has turned into a life threatening situation for our family and now its cost thousands of dollars too. Having a doctor like this really ruins the reputation of this vet hospital because it really overshadows all the good people who truly work hard and do a good job. Have you noticed the staff turn over there! They cant keep any good doctors so they allow a man who lets poor judgement cloud his ability to save the lives of all the animals he comes in contact with. He wanted to cause my dog serious harm or even death. Its clear hes not capable of making any decisions and needs to be watched closely by someone who has clear head. It saddens us so much that McClave would allow someone like this continue to work there? We've been going there for so long and they have saved the lives of our pets and we adore and appreciate the staff. We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars over the years there. Just look at all the negative reviews they say it all. They failed to communicate to us that nothing was done to treat our dog that was brought in as an emergency! You NEED to communicate to your patients! Doing nothing, and saying nothing is not an acceptable approach by any experienced professional! You can't blame the support staff either, its the responsibility of the treating vet to do the right thing by communication clearly!!! He has a duty!!! Once we found out we did what we needed to do to save our pets life Some person from McClave staff is going to reply as they think its shows they care and have good customer service. What they don't realize is doing something to improve the negative bad situation is what's needed here? McClave What are you actively going to do to fix the situation??? Answer that question!!!!!!!!!! Tell the world because of what happen to me should NOT have happen!!! You don't ignore what's specifically written in the file!!! That's why its written!!!1 Read Less

About two years ago my cat Oreo got hit by my neighbor when they were backing out of their driveway. I came here because it was the closest animal hospital I could find. That was a huge mistake that I believe cost Oreo his life. When I walked in the hospital the staff were super rude and throughout the whole time I was in the McClave they were very unsympathetic and in a way heartless towards the pain I was going through. They hit me with a $4000 bill to save his life which I couldn't afford so they told me the only other option was putting him to sleep. They didn't offer me any payment plans either for this surgery that could of potentially saved his life but it wasn't a guarantee either they said. The whole time there was not one ounce of compassion given to me by any of the staff instead they were more focused on getting their money. Right after my cat was put to sleep they were already in the room trying to give me the bill not even giving me a second to take it all in the fact that I had lost my companion. I would never come here again even if it was for a check up. If your pet is in any great danger of losing their life please don't take them to this animal hospital ITS A STRAIGHT DEATH SENTENCE! Brought my pup in for a little diarrhea. First they said they had no idea what it was and said they had to run all these tests. At the end of the visit, the vet turns to me and says they've seen "80 cases of gastroenteritis this week". I was SHOCKED. Why would run all these tests if you already knew of an outbreak in the area and had treated nearly 100 cases this week alone?! I was told it was nothing serious, and prescribed some meds, and slapped with a $500 bill. On the bill, I was charged for a chest X ray to be sent out for review by a radiologist, but oddly enough, the "outside radiologist" and the ordering vet were one and the same. This was obviously unethical but I just wanted to take my dog home and let him rest. I took him home and gave him the meds, but the meds made him worse. Now, instead of diarrhea, he had constipation and his belly was obviously distended. Something wasn't right, so I took him back a few days later. Again, they ran a bunch of tests and slapped me with another huge bill. I decided to take the dog off the meds after a few days and he got better, no thanks to this place. VCA McClave is a joke. Don't take your pets there if you love them; they will give you crappy medical care, slap you with a huge bill, and be rude to you the whole time. Shame on you VCA. NEVER AGAIN Read Less

Late night and you think your dog has contracted Ebola, maybe even swallowed chocolate, got bit by a poisonous a Brazilian Wandering Spider? Well wherever your dark twisted mind may go, the VCA McClave Animal Hospital is open 24 hrs and has a cure for that. As a new step-dog-mommy to an incredibly adorable Papillion-mix named Rebel, I take my duties seriously and noticed he was acting a bit weird. His strange behavior included twitching legs, heavy panting, jitters and lethargy. It was unsettling enough where we believed he was either poisoned or having an allergic reaction. I was able to locate the VCA online and called them about their fees. They are 89$ just to see the dog after hours and we quickly made our way over. After a really brief check-in, the nurse took Rebel in to visit with the Vet. They told us he was abnormally shaky and his heart was racing so they proceeded to do a urine test on him. Later we discovered they were testing for drugs and other toxins that could be tested. The urine test was about 60$ or so and took over 2 hours for us to wait for any types of results. The wait seemed like eternity and they have two locations for you to wait; a common area wait-room and the individual examination rooms where the Vet will come in to go over the diagnosis. The common area wait-room has music and a Kurig machine that dispenses tea or coffee (beware the coffee as it came out a bit funky). When the veterinarian finally came in to see us she was super sweet, knowledgeable and quickly put us at ease. No it wasn€t an allergic reaction, poisonous spider bite or even Ebola, the vet let us know Rebel was behaving a bit odd with an elevated heart rate, but his behavior seemed more psychological than anything else. She ensured us we could give him a shot of fluids just in case it was something of an allergic reaction but it was not necessary. So 3 hours and over $150 hours later we left with the peace of mind that our dog wasn€t dying. So long story told above, the VCA is a great place to bring your pet loved one, emergency or not. The service was amazing and the staff was very knowledgeable. Read Less

Awful experience. Firstly I took my cat here and was charged nearly $600 and then a week later received a bill saying they forgot to charge me for something. The medicine they provided made my cat worse. I brought him back two weeks later because he had a uti that was blocked which is very dangerous for male cats. I waited over two hours for him to be seen because they did not treat it as an emergency even though it is deadly. I was originally quoted $2500 for the procedure. I told them I could not afford that and they magically offered to do it for 1 thousand. I told them i wanted to first apply for care credit. Once I finished applying- I did not get approved, I found out via a nurse that they already did the procedure without my permission. I did not agree to it and did not sign any paperwork giving the approval. I asked if it was safe to leave with my cat. They originally told me he would need to stay at the hospital for a minimum of 3 days... but when I caused a fuss about doing the procedure already they said it was OK to take him home. I told them I was waiting to see if I could get care credit to pay for the procedure and was not approved so needed more options and suddenly they said I was allowed to make payments if it were more than a thousand dollars. It was very frustrating and I just wanted to leave and when they brought the bill it was close to $800. I feel they are just throwing out numbers. Half of the staff was friendly and the other half were plain rude. I tried asking a nurse about the bill and she told me it wasn't important and if I didn't have any medical questions it wasn't her problem. After waiting over an hour they dropped $60 Off my bill which was the bare minimum they could do. As a broke college student the amount of the bill happens to be very important to me. Due to not feeling welcomed there I will definitely not be returning. Read Less

I used to love McClave until VCA took over...corporate Veterinary care where they make sure they get you for every possible charge they can imagine. This also happened with Arden Animal Hospital in Glendale. Since VCA took over the office smells bad and looks bad, VCA is all about maximizing profit at the expense of your animals health and your bank account. You're better off flying to Denver to have your animals treated, the airline ticket, hotel, and vet bills for anything other than an office visit will still likely be less than going to VCA, i.e. teeth cleaning and a small tumor removal in Denver is about $650, in L.A. it's nearly $2,000. I've flown to Denver three times this year for work, which was about $300 roundtrip each time, though obviously my dog was not flying with me. The wrong people are now going to veterinary school, it used to be people who loved animals, now it's mostly people who love money. Read Less

We use Dr.Dueppen for our exotics, rabbits. She is kindhearted and is extremely knowledgeable with rabbits. While there are many vets out there who "claim" to see rabbits, they don't even know how to hold them properly. She has been attentive and thorough with her analysis of the problems. And to be fair to her, we also observe and offer all information we can about the animal so she doesn't have to start from scratch. Tests are always options, but we want the best for our pets. She has been extremely instrumental in getting our rabbits from sick to well in the shortest amount time possible. I have read the other evaluations and frankly if you wait to have your pet seen and then they worsen and the outcome, and the bill, is worse, you really only have yourself to blame. I have sat in the waiting room and watch them advise clients and their pets to the best of their ability and what the client is willing to do. As for the vets, I have seen Dr. Sauer for years for dogs, and Dueppen for exotics. They are both wonderful, caring animal people. I drive over half an hour for their services. And I recommend Dr Dueppen to all of my clients as well Read Less

Read Less

Our family would like to thank you so very much for the kindness shown to us after the passing of our beloved 12 year old Boxer, Buddy, last Friday night. It was a very difficult time for us, and the kind and thoughtful manner in which you treated us helped us get through what was a very sad and emotional experience. Its good to know that there are loving people like yourselves out there, who help others get through a devastating time for their family. We are very grateful, and will never forget you. Read Less

Horrible customer service. They took 3 hours to attend my puppy who was in pain and then I was waiting an hour just to pay ! I went to "lary" to ask if I can pay and he ended up being very rude saying "can't you see what I'm doing here" he was being super slow doing some medications. I told him to forget the medications and to just come take my payment. He insisted on doing the medications so I just walked out. Once I walked out then he got alarmed and decided to get my payment. Should've walked out from the beginning. Do not go to this place!!!
