They made my dogs visit (Max) such a great experience! Dr. Whitaker sat on the floor with my Max and made him feel so comfortable! The next day when I called to let him know the effects of the medication on Max he was unavailable, but called me right back from the sister location! Just amazing I couldn't be happier! My sister's little Chihuahua, Chico needed to be seen for immediate medical attention, and although Chico has never been seen by a doctor at Small Animal Hospital; they took him in right away. The staff was so kind and understanding. Chico would have been 14 years old on July 20th, but he was too sick to make it for his birthday. I just want to thank the entire staff for making this process easier, and for their kindness. Small Animal Hospital is a clean, well-run clinic with friendly front desk receptionists and very personable veterinarians! Being first time dog-owners (although my dog isn't a pup, just hasn't needed medical attention for his first two years!), my boyfriend and I didn't really know how to deal with our dog's swollen foot and limping at home. We called to set up an appointment ASAP, and got an appointment the next day (pretty good, considering we called a few other places that didn't have openings until 3 days later).Side note: Parking is in the back, enter next to the Dairy Queen. The parking lot directly behind the clinic has 5 spots, but the lot next to it has a few more!The wait time was reasonable (about 15 minutes to fill out paperwork and chat with other owners). When Dr. Whitaker came in, he got right down to the level of our dog. Although our dog is quite scared/aggressive to strangers, the physical exam was relatively easy to get through. We decided to go with conservative treatment. Getting meds was easy. Checking out was easy.In summary, we will definitely be going back to this clinic for our dog's future medical concerns. Took my kitten in for a nail trim....waited 30 minutes and it cost $23....what a ridiculous rip off. Never ever again. Riverside costs $14 and petsmart is about the same. They said "it's because we're a vet" ummm ok so you provide high end nail trims or what? The office is dark, old, and crappy. My family has been using Small Animal Hospital for many years now. We can not say enough good things about this Veterinarian Clinic. They have treated all of our cat's like their own family pet's. Not to mention how well they treat us, (The parents,owner's) of our delightful (kid's, cat's). When we hurt every staff member, including the receptionist's, always show so much compassion that you just know they understand how you are feeling. It is so comforting. Dr. Whitaker and staff were excellent! I have never had such a great vet experience . I had five kittens are he throughly and lovingly examined all five, they were very calm with him and the visit went better than planned. He answered all my questions and was very patient with me, as I did have a lot to ask.Their prices are also outstanding . Considering I had five kittens I was worried I'd pay at least $300 for consultation alone . Much to my surprise I only paid about a third of the price.You can tell these people love what they do, and work hard to make your experience as enjoyable and financially reasonable as possible.I only stumbled upon this place on accident, but will now be bringing in my own animals if they are ever in need. This animal hospital is amazing. The staff is so welcoming and nice and Dr Davis is just the sweetest vet I've met. Some complain that this place is a bit more pricey than others. Well you get what you pay for. I used to go to Pedley vet and they were cheap but tried to get money out of me left and right. They wanted to cut my dog open for a "speck" they saw in X-ray. Got a referral to Dr Davis and he did his own scans which showed that there was nothing wrong with my dog! This facility and the care my pets receive here is worth every penny. Read Less

I was referred here by Barton Animal ER Hospital.  I recently had a very unpleasant experience with Arlington Animal Hospital just trying to line their pockets with $$$$ Dr Hicks never ran the clinic in that manner!Anyway I called to schedule shots for two (2) dogs and need my 2 year Blue Nose Pit spayed.Couldn't get a estimate low/high f0r that procedure without spending $43 for each dog for an examination.Thank you for sharing your tactics up front saved me my time and money!My female is in excellent health 87lbs and was a referral from Dr Duffy...  But you just got to squeeze those $$$$ !!!!Ridiculous! Well, I did it. I just kicked a bad habit and that habit being patronizing Riverside small animal hospital. And that's really all it was is a bad habit. I had an appointment for my dog for the following day, but they called me up and asked if I could come in today at a certain time because they had a cancellation so I gladly accepted. I arrived 15 minutes early knowing it was probably a mistake due to previous encounters with these people but I really needed to get this problem taken care of. So finally, 40 minutes after the appointment time another of the patients suggested I ask about the wait. I guess she noticed how nervous my dog was getting. (this patient in fact came in after I did with her own three dogs and they took her right in). So I inquired and was told they were just waiting for an exam room to clear. I asked if there was a doctor available to see me even then and was told that "she didn't know" because there was only one available at the time. So I continued to wait another 20 minutes or so when one of the girls came out to get us and take us into an exam room. The "hot and stuffy one" they called it. I started to go in when I thought better and asked if there was a doctor available yet and she replied "no" not yet. So I said it seems to me all your doing is moving us from one waiting area to another hoping to pacify me, which she hesitantly confirmed. I'm sure the care they offer to pets here is as good as any other office, but this isn't the first time I've had to wait an exceedingly long time to see a doctor here due to over booking appointments. And there are just too many good veterinarians in Riverside that DON'T treat customers this way, and are at least courteous enough to keep you posted on wait times. So if I can continue dropping bad habits like this one, it won't be long before I'll lead a happier life right?! Have a great day everyone.Read Less

I haven't been to a vet in a long time. Both my dogs, Chihuahua mixes have been very healthy until recently.  We went in skeptical, and anxious but were greeted by a wonderful staff, and a more caring Dr. Davis.  He went over everything with us regarding our Phoebe girl.  Unfortunately, our Phoebe didn't make it, but when we made the decision to do what was best we were again met with the wonderful staff who showed us compassion, understanding and patience.  I can't thank the staff and Dr. Davis enough for helping us in one of the WORST times of our lives.  Our little Phoebe was taken care of, not to mention myself- they took care of me too.  Many thanks to this wonderful place.  With gratitude- K. My family and I have been taking our pets to Small Animal Hospital for over 20 years! They truly love our animals.. Short story- I took my 12 year old dachshund to a nearby Vet that told me he was ready to be put down. I was stricken with grief. I sat in the waiting room as the clock ticked by looking into my Franky's eyes as mine were filling with tears. as I watched puppies going in and out for routine check-ups , I thought to myself I'm going to get a second opinion. I took my Franky to the Small Animal Hospital and as soon as the Veterinarian came in he got down on all fours to examine Franky and said "oh no, he has a lot more time left! he'll be just fine" I was shocked to hear this after such grim news by this other vet! he gave franky some pain meds and sent us on our way. We were so happy to hear the good news! My children were overjoyed! Franky did have more time left! 7 years! When is was time Small Animal Hospital was with Franky and our family to say are goodbyes. My dog has been seriously sick for quite some time. I have taken my dog here a few times and gotten the same old run around and no definate answers. My dog was still sick with no resolution. Although the nurses are friendly and the front desk staff are nice it just isnt enough. After hundreds of dollars spent here on nothing worthy, veternarians who cant give you real answers we finally said ENOUGH! We have found a new Vet who is AMAZING and gave us the answers the day we went in and we are thrilled to finally have a soultion to our fur baby's sickness. I've been coming here for about 20 years.  As long as I've had my current Yorkie, Molly, and she's almost 15, I've never taken her anywhere else.  I don't live close, but to me, its worth the drive for the excellent service Dr. Davis and his staff provides.  I can say this with complete honesty that Dr. Davis gives my Yorkie better treatment than some other doctors have given me personally.  It's true!  I trust his judgment, diagnosis, and patient care without reservation.  He has the most friendly, patient, and informative staff working with him.  I really appreciate how nice people are when we visit.  Angel, thank you for always making our visits pleasant!  Last time, Molly had to have surgery and some teeth extracted.  Lupe let me come back to the kennel area to visit her after the surgery was completed.  She was kinda out of it, but when she saw me she perked right up and started scratching at the cage to get out.  They let me hold her while we went over what I'd have to do to take care of her for the next couple of weeks.  Thanks for your clear instructions Lupe!When I walked in this time, I saw a sign on the building that this animal hospital was established in 1945 and it's still going strong.  That's a lot of history and tradition for any business! We have been going to RIverside Small Animal Hospital for 11 years. They have taken excellent care of all of our dogs, 6 in total. The Team, specifically Angel, Mardell, Benji & Isabel have not only been amazing at their "job", but have been compassionate and caring in times when we have gone through the grief of losing our fur babies (Stoley & Trixie). They have nurtured and been involved in the long term care of our Lola & Momo, who continue to rally because of Their care. I adopted a dog about 3.5 weeks ago from a shelter in another city, and was excited that Small Animal Hospital agreed to honor their voucher for a complimentary first wellness check to establish care, since I had a friend recommend them. I'm SO glad I did, because a pest control company that our property manager contracts with recently left out a big bag of rodenticide/poison, and our 10-month-old pup got into it. I was REALLY impressed with how thoroughly and kindly the staff has handled the whole situation - they took all necessary steps to ensure his well-being, and seem genuinely concerned for his well-being. At follow-up visits, I have had multiple staff members inquire how he is doing, whether he's shown any symptoms, etc. It has been so wonderful to know he is in such good hands! Dr. Fine even took time to speak to me on the phone several times regarding different questions, and I am grateful that she was willing to do so. They have also been wonderful to help me sort out what is absolutely essential and what is optional in view of finances. I have not felt pressured or guilted into decisions, but have felt well-equipped and informed to make good ones. Knowing your dog is in good hands for routine care is one thing, but knowing they are in good hands in crisis situations is priceless! I would highly recommend this office again and again without hesitation!Read Less

Dr Davis and his staff are great. We have been using them for nearly 20 years with our own pets. We have also been fostering dogs for the past 4 years as needed, have taken all our fosters in at some stage or another for various check ups. HORRIBLE Vet Techs! I feel so guilty putting my pet through an experience at Small Animal Hospital. I brought my pet in for a simple allergy shot that my pet has received numerous times from our vet in the Midwest. After the Vet gave the ok for the allergy shot she said, "The Vet Tech will be in to give the shot." This guy walks in and says, "Who gets to be the lucky one?" He meant who gets to hold the pet for the shot. My wife held our pet down and then this "Vet Tech" gave the shot. My pet almost jumped off table and made the loudest pain noise I have ever heard him make. After the shot I looked at the syringe and it was bent. The "Vet Tech" then said that was a "Normal" response. Wow! Where we are from the Doctors give the shots and the Vet Techs hold the animal. Normally the doctor will grab some fatty skin, pinch it, administer the shot, and we are on our way with the animal hardly knowing they received a shot. IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. As I write this I feel so guilty putting my pet through that experience. Read Less
