Dr. Vickie is simply put the best raptor vet in the United States! My 9 year old falcon Cash had been scratching his face due to a sinus infection. After a course of antibiotics and anti-fungal medication he still continued to scratch. I flew him by plane to Dr. Vickie and she found out that it was caused by parasites that he had ingested when he ate a small frog that had hopped into his cage. I am confident that few other vets would have figured this out. She is a sharp wonderful lady and I feel lucky to know her! Read Less

New chicken momma here, & when one of my pullets cracked her beak open exposing the bone underneath, I'll admit I panicked a bit. (What can seem like the smallest issues can often be life or death to a small animal within 24hrs.) Tons of research & many phone calls later, I found the Bird & Pet Clinic. A bit of a long haul dragging my girl up to Roseville from downtown Sac, and I paid an extra $95 to get in on an 'urgent care' same day appointment.So worth it. Dr. Poindexter was great. Attentive, smart & caring. She chose a non-standard treatment for the beak break by adding silvadene cream to the antibiotic wash & antibacterial med combo. That made me hopeful. (I was prescribed silvadene once for a borderline 3rd degree burn on my face & the scar healed with smooth skin & little to no discoloration. Big fan. Even my specialist was surprised as I'd been warned I would need laser resurfacing to try and match the skin texture and color over such a large burn.) But back to Dr. Poindexter. She gave enough meds to cover the immediate care, plus extra of the topicals in case needed during healing & grow out. 3 weeks later & the hole in poor Goldie's beak is nearly filled/healed. $145 total for a same day appointment that spared my little girl beak disfigurement or life threatening infection. (No charge for the follow-up check, no extra care was needed.)As pet care costs go, I found the clinics prices to be very on par. But then, my family doesn't believe in only caring for animals when it's convenient to our needs. It's not about the eggs we haven't seen yet. Those silly outdoor pets have stolen our hearts. It used to be such a friendly place and it felt like everyone cared. The last several times I've gone it felt like neither the doctor nor the techs care about me or my dog at all. **PLEASE READ BEFORE BRINGING SMALLER PETS HERE**: I brought my hamster in, who had some swelling around her abdomen. After looking at her, I only was told two options. The first was that he could take her blood and run tests but it's possible it would tell us nothing. Or he could give me antibiotics that could potentially make her sick. Because my hamster was alert and running around, he said that she was fine and healthy. My hamster died two weeks later. Not only that, but when I called to see if they could "put her down" (because I could tell she was dying and didn't want her to suffer) they said they couldn't see her. My husband persisted that they let us bring her in, and they said they could "fit us in" in two hours. I watched my pet, who I loved dearly, die on the way to the vet. It was traumatizing in so many ways. I was given false hope my hamster would live for a long time and spent $70 on a visit where I was told nothing and given antibiotics that didn't work, and I watched my pet die because they couldn't "fit her in". My 15 lb dog was very, VERY SICK for 3 full days after getting simple booster shots from this place. She was totally swollen and wouldn't stand up, eat, or drink. The vet spent about 2 minutes doing a $48 "physical" and didn't check eyes, ears, nose, anything. She said that because I didn't come in saying anything specific was wrong, that she didn't have to complete the physical exam... but still charged me full price for it. My mom passed away last year and left behind her Tortoise, Tomas Tortuga. He went into hibernation in November and he started coming out a few weeks ago. He remained lethargic and I started to worry. I had a hard time finding a vet who could see him immediately. Roseville Bird & Pet Clinic fit us in the same day. The staff are friendly and the facility is spacious and clean. I have over 20 years experience working with exotic animals and Domestic animals. Therefore I am pretty picky on who I have as a veterinarian for my animals because I believe a vet should have amazing bedside manners animal handling Grace and exceptional knowledge of the animals that they work with. I also know that exotic animals especially reptiles and birds can be A challenge when working with and diagnosing them. With that being said, my family currently moved up to the area and we did not get a veterinarians in place yet. My son, Who has A bearded dragon ended up getting a pretty nasty Eye infection. I found bird and pet clinic of Roseville and made an appointment to take a long John the bearded dragon in for treatment. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and The front desk staff were extremely friendly. The veterinarian and the vet tech staff were amazing! Veterinarian did a very thorough exam and throughout the exam she explained the reason why things were certain ways and then importance of different types of treatment to my son. She took the time to educate him the way that he should be. She also took her time when she was with long John and was aware of his temperament during certain procedures that she was doing and handled him accordingly. Definitely going back here again. Not only do I feel comfortable with the care of my two small dogs, I always feel like they genuinely care and love my animals, and investment in their care ... and that means the world to me. I'm sad because when I first walked in the place was very warm and inviting. Honestly it was one staff members that is the reason for a poor review. I came in with no appointment not knowing it would cost more to do a walk in, which i could not afford, but was willing to do for my dog because she was in discomfort. The woman said i could be put on a cancellation list in case anyone calls to cancel I could take their spot for the appointment and I would pay less. While I'm filling out the paperwork someone calls to cancel an 11am appointment. I smile and ask the lady if I get that spot now. She said I can not take that spot because it was FIVE MINUTES past the appointment that was set up. The person called at 11:05 to cancel.......soooo do they call their clients and tell them they are late and can not come in? How can they be that crunched on time? I wish I could more than 5 stars. This office is professional and compasionate. The front office is very welcoming and helpful. The vet that helped my dog was very very personal and detailed in with her attention to my dog and I. My dog Autumn was injured and they did everything to make her comfortable and provide the care she needed. I feel that they are very honest with the treatment needed and did not "add on" unnecessary costs or services. As long as I live in Roseville this will be my little doggies new doctor. Read Less

We had used this Vet for our last dog. Every visit with her was fair. I wasn't talked into too many unnecessary treatments, and ultimately the dog did great. Sadly last June she passed away, and when we brought her here to be assessed and hopefully treated, it was determined that there was nothing they could do to save her. We put her down that day. The staff was nothing short of cold and insensitive to this really difficult decision. They barely muttered a apology, did not provide any condolences and were mainly focused on how we would pay. Before they even brought her back to be looked at, they made me secure payment. I was holding a nearly deceased dog in my arms, balling my eyes out, and all they could talk about was money. I found that to be really unprofessional and very cold. Our pets are like our children in some cases. You would think that in this business they would have some kind of sensitivity training to deal with heartbroken owners. Read Less

I cannot say enough about how much we love The Bird & Pet Clinic of Roseville! Recently we had an attack on our sweet chickens- another clinic was able to keep our hen, Bowman, stable overnight so that we could transfer her to the Bird & Pet clinic- Dr. Forney was amazing! He knew that we wanted to give her every chance to survive the attack- but also know it was a long shot and wanted to see what happened in the first 24 hours before they did anything drastic- sadly our sweet Bowman had a seizure and died within hours of dropping her off- I won't forget that call from Dr. Forney- he completely understood that Bowman wasn't 'just a chicken' she was part of our family. About a month later another one of our hens was sick and again Dr. Forney was there for us- he suggested what we knew was the right thing to do and put our sweet Anna down so that she was no longer in any pain. We now take our dogs here and when our cat is in need this is where we will be bringing her. Very expensive, for profit only philosophy, avian treatment approaches are not much different from what a regular non-avian veterinarian would do, the staff members are rather aloof. Once the charge for the visit is received, there is no further professional interest in the outcomes and consequences of the treatment prescribed. Uncomplicated and plain cases of avian maladies are handled all right, more difficult cases are not. There will be a very costly guess work, primitive treatment plan, and no interest in your bird's further improvement or demise.Read Less

Fantastic clinic. My pet rabbit was in GI stasis on a saturday and this was the nearest vet that would see a rabbit all the way from South Lake Tahoe (we called every vet in the carson/reno area, I guess we just got unlucky). although this pet clinic was the only place for me to go i was unimpressed with the front staff. they did not show that they were genuinely listening when i expressed my concerns about my pet bird. when they gave me an update they treated me like an idiot and missed completely my concern. i recommend looking into further options before going here, would have not checked any stars if allowed, and now would gladly drive further for better customer service.
