They dropped us as a patient when we needed it most. All I was asking for was an explanation why we needed an echo when we had an xray. Apparently seeking to understand is unacceptable. Our 12yr old dog with a stage 4 murmur that has been stable for 7yrs started experiencing some breathing issues. When I called Cirby Ridge said she was likely going into heart failure and to go to a pet hospital. I did so and we performed an xray where they saw she had fluid buildup and an enlarged left side of her heart. They gave us 5 days worth of diuretic for the fluid but since she was stable and happy they asked us to further treatment at our regular vet, Cirby Ridge. When I did so, I was told gruffly that they were extremely busy and might not be able to get us in for a while, to call back the hospital and get more. Upon hearing this the hospital I was sent to refilled the prescription for 3wks worth and saw it prudent to get Leela started on a heart medication immediately if Cirby and Dr. Hurst couldn't. Cirby called me back later wanting to set up an echo. No discussion before, just right into echo and blood work. When I inquired what more we would see in the echo that we hadn't been able to tell in the xray (the hospital seemed to have seen enough to discern a heart medication to prescribe) the vet tech on the phone got huffy and said she would ask the Dr and call me back. The next morning I received a call saying they put my dogs medical history in the mail, to seek further treatment elsewhere. Baffling. Dr Hurst was never really great at communicating, she was quite condescending at times, but I never imagined being abandoned at what seems the beginning of the end. Our dog is finding much relief from the meds with spunk to spare, no thanks to Cirby Ridge. Read Less

Dr Hurst is the best! She is compassionate, practical, extremely knowledgeable, and uses her many years of experience to make the best care decisions for your dog, with his care/comfort in mind. She does not do unnecessary tests or procedures and has often recommended home remedies to help keep our dog comfortable and healthy. She has even done procedures before using 'local' anesthesia on our dogs where other vets would have put them under general anesthesia - that alone is a huge plus (safer for our dogs, reduces risks, and they feel better too!). Amazing: She once pulled out a TINY piece of plastic stuck way down in our dobermans throat! Even the technician was amazed she could do that without any sedation in our dog. All we knew is that he was drooling and she found a tiny flesh colored piece of Nylabone dog toy stuck. Be patient with her - she's serious about your pets - so leave your kids at home if they can't sit quietly. :) Read Less

We have taken our dog to Dr. Hurst and Cirby Ridge Animal Hospital for almost 11 years.  Over those 11 years we received the best care for our goldendoodle.  Dr. Hurst and her team, always took care of him and you could just sense her love for animals.  Unfortunately we lost our dog this past month suddenly and had to take our dog to the local ER vet instead of Dr. Hurst. However, Within those first few days we were able to talk to Dr. Hurst to get a better understanding of what happened and received a beautiful card full of compassion.  There are many Veterinarians closer to our house, but we we decided to get another family pet we will most definitely take them back to Cirby Ridge Hospital! EXTREMELY rude staff. If the behaviour of the staff is ANY indication of the level of care given at this "Animal Hospital" I would RUN not walk in the other direction!!!!!

After a friend recommended this place, I've gone here several times this year since it's right up the road from me. Each time I've been less than totally impressed. The staff is always rude, whether it be that they don't want to take a written message down for the Vet (they literally will try to talk you out of it), or because I don't hesitate to call or bring my dog in if there's ever an issue- they think it's high maintenance. You'd would think they'd love that since they're getting paid each time. That doesn't mean they aren't money hungry- a quick visit to have my dogs glands expressed is $45 (most vets are $15-30), and they're constantly pushing medications which are at least $30 a pop, regardless of how minor the issue ends up being.Half the time Dr. Hurst isn't in the office- I've seen her fill-in vets more times than I've seen her, and while Dr. Hurst was nice and thoughtful during our visits, her practice isn't worth the hassle and attitude of her rude staff.
