This place is top notch I would give 10 stars if I could. They are so caring and go over the top for you and your pet. Excellent care and very friendly staff. Just had to put one of our dogs down and they make the difficult experience the best possible. There is a room they use and have a blanket on the floor and give you plenty of time to get you and your pet comfortable. The vet actually sits on the floor to administer the shot. First they give a shot to relax your pet so it gives you a bit more time with your pet to say goobye and after it takes affect they come in for the final shot. You get plenty of time afterward in the room. They also supply tissues and water for you. They go out of their way to make it as peaceful as possible for you. Their ability to do this within an hour or two really helped. The prices are very reasonable and the service is the best I have ever received from any vet office. They even sent a sweet card and a piece of paper with a verse along with my dogs paw print a couple of days later. I highly recommend this place and in my opinion they are the best in Sacramento. So happy we found Country Oaks! Convenient hours (open on Sunday)! Another vet thought my older Chihuahua just had a sore back, but Dr. Johnson found that he actually had a lesion on his bottom. Quick course of antibiotics and a couple of follow up appointments and my stinky boy is doing great! I'm so relieved that he is back to his old self. This is the third vet office I have been to since June 2017 and I will not be looking any further for a place to care for my animals now that I found Country Oaks. Our little dog was neutered yesterday. Fantastic and caring environment.  Dr. Johnson is fantastic and called me personally after the surgery to let me know that everything went well.  Very friendly and welcoming staff.  Sammie is a Boston Terrier and had an issue with "cherry eye."  We were seen same day and the vet popped in to check and gave us the ointment our puppy needed.  My parents have used Country Oaks for years and it's easy to see why! I have been to this office three times in recent months, in what I consider to be an emergency situation. Each time the have made availability to see my pup same day and that to me is worth 5 stars, but the continue to impress me. The doctors and office staff are always friendly and try to make your pet and your experience comfortable. The last visit was to remove foxtails from his nose and while he was sedated they even trimmed his nails back. When I was leaving one of the techs handed me a towel to cover my seats just in case he got a nose bleed. Perfect example of customer service. They have a customer for life! Read Less

Had a few concerns with this place after taking my puppy there twice for his shots. The first time, the vet tech seemed like she was going through the motions and reading from a book. Not very personable and didn't do a great job dumbing it down for us to make a decision if we wanted/needed certain vaccines. They took my puppy in the back to give him the shots... which I didn't really like. I had to call a few hours later to ask where they injected him because he was experiencing soreness when touched.Three weeks later (two days ago) we went back for his next round of shots. This time we were in the portable (which is very nice) since they are undergoing a renovation. The vet tech seemed very knowledgeable, but had to clarify a few things from the last visit that were unclear. Had to call back yesterday because my puppy got very sick 10 hours after getting his vaccines. The woman on the phone was pushing to get a fecal done because they were running a "special." Was put on hold multiple times so she could figure out what to do in this type of situation. Finally said "it says on the paper to bring him in." Just seems like something the staff should be educated on and be able to answer quickly.Overall, prices are higher than other vets. Was sent a postcard less than a week after our first visit informing us that our puppy was overdue for his shots when this was not the case. We even had an additional appointment scheduled for his next round. Staff is unorganized and could use some more training. Read Less

Had my first visit with my cat here today. We came in for a general exam to check out his infected eye and an odd bald spot that appeared on his head this morning. They were able to get us in same day and there was relatively no wait on the cat side (the office is divided). The nurse/tech that helped us was beyond amazing ! He was nice, helpful, friendly to our pet (and us) and answered all questions and concerns. Now, the doctor was a whole other story. From the moment she walked in she seemed agitated and rushed. She just reviewed all the notes from the nurse and confirmed them with us. She took a general look and feel of my pet then concluded he has conjunctivitis and possibly ringworms. While talking about treatment options, the vet seemed to really push me to get him tested for ringworms ($100+) but when I declined that for today's visit and asked to just focus on his eye infection, she looked at me with a weird look almost in disbelief causing an awkward silence for a couple minutes... it felt like she was unhappy with my decision, but regardless I don't have over $100 to spend on just a test that MIGHT find out what's wrong with my cat, especially if it's not serious. Beyond that, while asking questions about my cat's eye infection and what it could be, she gave very general answers saying it could be multiple things but she was gonna give me medication for one possible thing. I continued to ask questions regarding the medication (the other options, the condition, and what if the medication didn't work, etc) and she seemed so annoyed at me. I actually felt she was being condescending as when I would ask for clarification (e.g. Viral vs bacterial causes of the infections and the diff treatment options) and she made it seem like I was stupid for not knowing and very hesitant in her answers. Needless to say the doctor ruined my visit and is what caused me to deduct so many stars. If it was based on the doctor alone, this place would've gotten 2 stars! The only saving grace at the end was when the nurse came to the waiting room to give us our medication and actually offered to take us back to the exam room to show us how to put on the first application. It was there that we also found traces of fleas on my cat, which turns out to be a possible cause of the bald spot... We would've missed out on all this + wasted $100 on a test that might or might not have helped had the nurse not been there!To recap: the nurse/tech was amazing, the doctor was not. Read Less

Called to schedule a health exam for a new puppy we just got, they were able to see him the very next day. Everyone was very friendly, and they made sure we were aware of the possible health issues associated with the breed of our new puppy. I'll be taking him back next week for his next set of immunizations. The health exam was free for new clients, as well as a one month supply of flea/tick repellent, dewormer was also free for first time customers, puppy had his nails trimmed. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable when I brought my puppy in for the first time. He didn't even notice he was getting vaccines and temperature taken because of all the attention and cheese he was getting! I'm grateful I found this clinic when I did. The front desk staff was very welcoming and friendly too. I also love that this is a privately and locally owned clinic, compared to corporation clinics, which don't seem to care as much about quality of care. I wish I had had the same experience as some of the other reviewers, but unfortunately I will be taking my business elsewhere after my dog was rough handled during a blood draw and sent home with a compression bandage around her neck and bruised body from the experience. If you own a senior toy breed dog you may want to think twice before using these services, or use caution if they want to have your pet undergo multiple testing procedures at one time. The stress my senior dog underwent was terrible and her recovery has been slow. I'm so sad; Country Oaks used to be the one of the best pet hospitals in town. Update: I just received a call from Lisa at CO disputing my comments and argued that my dog was NOT rough handled, squarely placing the blame on the dog for resisting. SERIOUSLY? I get it that everyone has a bad day and a missed needle stick is unfortunate, but I think CO has clearly missed the point, my dog was hurt while in their care and at the very least an apology would have been the appropriate response . We love the whole staff at Country Oaks Pet Hospital. Our 7 year old Border Collie has been cared for by Dr. Johnson since she was 8 weeks old. He also cared for our previous Border Collie for 12 years. So when he moved his practice, we followed him to Country Oaks even though we live about 35 minutes away from the office. The professional and loving care of our dog is worth the drive! The staff is friendly, efficient, and helpful. We are glad to see that Chad has joined the staff too. I have had the team at Country Oaks be my pets doctors for about 16 years. Over the years they all brought me comfort when needed and gave the best care possible. My dogs have been vaccinated, neutered, sickness, ear cysts, eye removals, and they have been put to sleep there. I never worry if I am getting the best care. They treat clients like family. I'm a professional pet sitter in the Sacramento area, and recently I went to take care of a client's cat, only to show up and find it had an abscess. Country Oaks was able to help my client's cat quickly, and worked with my schedule, which I really appreciated!!! So much so, that when one of my own dogs showed signs of a urinary infection, I called them. They were able to get us in the next day. My dog is not vet friendly, but he did better than anticipated with this vet. I also appreciated that they did not do, recommend, or insist on any unnecessary tests or procedures. WHAT!!!! that is higher then every vet I called when I shopped around. We have been customers of Country Oaks Pet Hospital since we moved to Sacramento in 1970 and happened to live next door to one of the new vets, Dr. Scott Harrison. He has now since retired, staff have changed, but they still provide the most caring and compassionate care around. When we went there today to pick up our dog's ashes, the receptionist's eyes did all the talking - she knew why we were there without having to ask us who we were. I felt her sadness as she felt ours. We will be moving to Lincoln in November.
