Intergrative Veterinary Center

Sacramento, California
General Info
The Integrative Veterinary Center (IVC) was established in 2000 by Dr. Signe Beebe. IVC is dedicated to providing the highest quality veterinary care through the integration of alternative and complementary medicine with conventional medicine. At IVC, we believe that using a combination of all reasonable therapies or systems of medicine together provides the veterinarian with an increased ability to prevent and treat disease that would not be possible using one system of medicine by itself. This type of veterinary care focuses on evaluation of the whole animal and on the prevention of disease and maintenance of health, not just on the treatment of disease, and the suppression of symptoms.
An integrative approach to veterinary medicine is designed to improve the likelihood of resolving an animal's underlying disease condition, prevent or minimize adverse drug effects, maximize successful treatment outcomes and improve the quality of life. As our client, you are given all of the available options for the treatment of your pet. The veterinarians of IVC are extensively trained in both conventional and complementary and alternative medicine and can effectively treat any of the medical conditions normally seen in regular veterinary practice. By using a combination of Western medicine diagnostics and drugs with acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine we have a wide array of tools we can use to help resolve your pet’s medical problems.
We can help formulate individual pet nutrition and wellness plans to promote optimal health and prevent disease from developing. We have used feng shui principles to enhance our center, which has three spacious exam rooms with a calm and quiet atmosphere. The water fountains, cushioned exam tables, chimes, plants and classical music help your pet to relax and promote maximal healing. IVC has a state of the art hydrotherapy tank for canine rehabilitation to provide rapid recovery from illness or injury, provide conditioning for canine athletes and to promote general wellness, especially in geriatric pets.
Please feel free to stop by and make an appointment for a tour of our center by one of our friendly staff members. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us. Our compassionate, dedicated team of professionals are ready to assist you and your pet. Thank you for visiting our site! See you soon.

Dr. Beebe irresponsibly and foolishly concluded that our dog had late-stage cancer based upon a rectal temperature and feeling his body with her hands (dog developed some masses on body over the course of a couple days). Other than that, she had no (read ZERO) quantitative information in front of her, like lab results or a scan or a biopsy. She steered towards euthanasia (when asked what she would do personally) and her argument was that investing gobs of money into the dog would almost assuredly prove to be futile at “this point.” This is commonly a sound argument when considering the balance between the dog’s comfort and the presented condition (like late stage cancer). I’m not an oncologist, but I’m not aware of any cancer that produces significantly sized tumors (multiple) or growths (like the size of a super ball, 1”+ diameter) on a 6lb animal) in the course of 48 hours. We got a second and third opinion and both diagnostically concluded that our dog has panniculitis and that the masses are not cancerous (verified via biopsy). Dog also had an abscess on his skin (a symptom of panniculitis) which they attributed to a puncture wound. The animal is fine and back to 100% after treating him with steroids over the course of a few weeks. On a previous and unrelated occasion Dr. Tsai dismissed an abscessed tooth as simply a superficial wound - this is after I told her I suspected it was an abscessed tooth since the dog had at least one before and it presented exactly like this one did, a wound that won’t heal on the top of the muzzle. After taking the dog to a dentist a few days later, they spotted the abscessed tooth at first obvious glance without even being told about it. Pretty annoying to have a doctor doubt you when you know your animal better than anyone on the planet AND come with historical evidence of the same thing. This place doesn’t kill animals and they’re decent (Mary, vet tech, is among the most competent thus far) with minor things, but clearly Dr. Beebe didn’t know when to say “I don’t know”. If you’re needing a second opinion, I would have recommended this place, but in good conscience I cannot after she prescribed a premature death sentence based upon virtually no other evidence other than temperature and feel/sight. The paperwork we received from them for this visit indicated a different version of events (some literally 100% not true). The mis-accounting of events reads in a way like it was written in anticipation of a lawsuit. Among the inaccurate things written down, one was that they suggested follow up with oncology and other specialists. This is against the grain of what Dr Beebe told us she would do personally (spend the next few days with the dog, then look into euthanasia the next day or so). In fact, the suggestion of following up with specialists wasn’t even communicated verbally nor in discharge notes (only the staff’s notes contained this suggestion, which aren’t exposed to clients unless they ask for the records specifically). Last point I’ll make that smells bad is that they kept in contact with us throughout the dog’s ordeal (like they answered texts, phone calls very quickly) up until the exact moment we let them know it was almost assuredly not cancer and instead panniculitis. Then the contact virtually stopped from them. You do the math. Read Less

The techs and vets are caring, considerate, and good at listening to my concerns about our dogs. They offer holistic care options like herbal supplements, acupuncture, and prolotherapy, as well as conventional products, and I didn't feel like they were pushy with the holistic stuff. This is a perfectly good option for vet care, but there are a few things that made me decide to go to a different vet: First of all, our experience with Dr. Beebe giving prolotherapy injections was not great. I felt like she was too rough with our dog and decided to put a muzzle on her when she could have just been more gentle. Second, the practice doesn't use any computer systems for invoices, appointments, or medications. This means that you have to wait for them to hand-write an invoice after each visit. If you ask them to remind you about an upcoming appointment, they have to search page-by-page through their appointment book to find your next entry. And finally, also because of the record-keeping practices, they didn't remind me when my dogs' vaccinations were due. On one occasion, I brought my dogs in for a check-up, and then tried to book them for daycare to only find out (from the daycare provider, not the vet) that their vaccinations were overdue. I had to scramble bring them back to the vet for their shots. The vet techs were perfectly accommodating about getting me back in for the shots, but Dr. Beebe really needs to use a better system to make sure the clients' pets don't fall behind on their vaccinations. We take our 5 year Husky, Lyca, and our 6 month Malamute puppy, Toki, to see Dr. Beebe. The vet assistants were great and they are always so friendly. Whenever we walk in they always have a treat ready for our pups, and they keep the clinic with a very calm and welcoming air. Lyca started Prolotherapy treatment for two torn tendons in her hind legs, because the tendons were only partially torn. We didn't want to choose surgery because there's a chance that it could permanently ruin her life, and if this therapy failed we would still have more options. The treatment did wonders for Lyca. At the beginning in August 2010, Lyca was admitted to Dr. Beebe limping, in obvious pain and needing pain medication, and grumpy as an old grandma because we couldn't allow her to run, jump or twist. By Nov 2010 she was trotting and happy again because she was able to go on daily walks again. The treatment did amazing things for her and restored her carefree attitude. It was very uplifting to watch her go to the bathroom like a normal dog, rather than watching her squat down slowly and in pain, with her knees quivering. But because of a careless co-owner, a jealous, angry and selfish ex-girlfriend, Lyca had an accident that severed her left tendon and severely re-torn her right tendon as well. The situation has been taken care of though, and legally the ex has been counted responsible for the injury and no longer can force Lyca through anymore trauma. Lyca is still going to receive the Prolotherapy treatment, because it did wonders for her before, and she actually shows a lot of trust and interest in Dr. Beebe where as she shy'd away from the other doctors. When we took our puppy Toki into see Dr. Beebe, he had gotten a foxtail stuck under his eyelid, and even though it took three of us to hold him down and keep him still, she was able to pull that sucker out in no time at all. When we went back for a check up a week later, she gave him lots of love and treats which only brightened his day. For an overall rating, Dr. Beebe is VERY informative and to the point. She's very easy to talk to, she's down to earth with a lot of common sense and she's very honest. She's a wonderful doctor, and her Veterinary offers a lot of vitamin products that are not overpriced, I favor the Kelp and blueberries antioxidant powder, because not only does it have 70+ vitamins, it's also a cancer preventative. Their prices on the Honest Kitchen Dehydrated food are better than buying it at a regular pet store as well. I give the Integrative Veterinary Center 6 stars out of 5 stars. They're just that good.
