Our 3yr old husky/rednose shelli cut one of her paws needing stitches and staples 5 days ago. Both doctors and staff seemed to take care of her well...were patient with us answering all questions, wasn't cheap but if your dog is part of the family and needs surgery...things happen and you budget. Thank you to both doctors and all staff, shelli is now getting back to her old self...second bandage change here in a few days and she should be good to go so no complaints here. I had been going to this place (more off then on) for 55 years. Not anymore. My dog was very sick, so I took her over there to see what was going on. That was $40 for a five minute consultation. Started going to this hospital as a teen for our family pet when Dr.B owned it, the best hospital, when Dr. K took over, it still was a wonderful hospital, he don't say much, but he helped me with me beloved baby, the whole way until the end and I thank him for that. I recently went back 4/2017, it's not the same at all, I called before I went and I was told $40.00 for the office visit, I asked if I bring my dog and cat is it still $40.00, I was told yes, I got charge $40.00 per pet, if i would of been informed correctly I wouldn't of brought my dog, she was fine she didn't need to go, that's bull so if you have multiple pets you f*****, people can't afford medical coverage for themselves let alone there pets, so I guess if you can't afford to take your pet to the vet on a regular, I guess you don't need to have a pet and you don't care huh. It's nobody's fault I lost my job and I made that clear to the lady vet, she was nice, but kept pushing more test more this. I will never go back there again. My dog had a bad cough. I was unemployed and didn't have the money to really go to the vet. The staff was understanding and did there best to help me. They never made me fill bad with my situation. They called to check up on Salty. Plus the doctor let me talk about my dog over phone. I am happy to know a vet I fill they not trying to rip me off. We had to bring our dog in for an issue with her toe. They had to remove it. The staff cared and the doctors. Each followbuo visit, they took time with her and even wrapped her wound in pink They explained things as they were happening. Sadly, our dog recently died. They sent us flowers and a card. The owner/ doctor, was extremely rude. Anytime, I'd asked a question regarding either a bill, procedure or question about my pet's well being, I was answered with belittling stares then short answers. Review your bill carefully, he tries to sell anything there is possible and adds it onto your bill even when you declined to buy. Truly, he is cold and has no passion for the animals. I have been taking my animals to South Sacramento Pet Hospital since 1990. I have continued to go to SSPH because I have the confidence in their staff and vet practices, along with experience to know that my animals are being cared for. The doctors and staff have always answered my multitude of questions and listen to my comments and observations on my animals health. It feels more like a partnership with the vets than a service where I have little input. I have seen many doctors come and go over the years, but did not see a lessening of the quality of care. Recently, this hospital acquired the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation. This is a voluntary membership with the AAHA organization that has a specific set of standards a veterinary practice must meet to be eligible. I originally went to this vet hospital because it was close and I could afford it. What first grabbed my attention on the level of quality of the vet care was an incident where my diabetic cat lost his balance for a few weeks. Both vets that looked at him had said (separately) that they had done further research on his condition. They then told me what to expect, how to help him, and that it may be a permanent condition (it wasnt this time). That really helped with what was a trying time for him (and for me). For what it is worth, my first cat lived 20 years and was under their care for 19 years; the rest were a diabetic cat under their care for 16.5 years and the last two cats were under SSPH care for 16.5 and 15 years. I have recommended this vet hospital, vet and staff for many years and now with a new kitten, I plan on this cat to be under their care for the next 15-20 years. Read Less

There prices are reasonable and willingness to help my pet(s) and their needs. I prefer Dr. Cleavy which I no longer see there. There was one customer serv rep that I did not like but Angelina was more customer service receivable. I do like the alerts that let me know when they need care or service, shots, etc. The cleaning job was pretty decent except first time I had to return because they did not shave the cat as first stated and then gave a refunded visit. I like to get my cats cleaned once a year at least since one of them has a potty trail. Read Less

I am very happy with this vet hospital. Every time I have some in, I truly felt as if the vet was listening to my concerns and that I was encouraged to be involved in the care of my pets. They asked me appropriate questions, and gave thoughtful answers to my own questions. They were willing to find me appropriate medication for my dog that worked for his eye condition and was easy to administer, The facilities are always clean, the front staff is very helpful and I always feel welcome. The prices are about average for the area and the care my pets get is outstanding - a real bargain in my mind. They don't cut corners, but they don't recommend unnecessary procedures, either. Love this vet! First vet that actually cares and isn't in it for how much money they can make. Their prices are the best around. But their quality is why I come back. Any vet that works on Saturday as part of his practice is truly dedicated to their work. A Saturday appointment not treated as an emergency charging a ridiculous extra fee was how I found them in the first place! One of my dogs was in a fight but could not afford to put her under and have the clean out her wounds so he showed me how to do it myself and went out of his way to help me. We've been bringing our Jack Russels here for years and have never been disappointed. This weekend while we were out a walk, one of them was attacked by a loose pit bull. He was very badly injured and needless to say, I was in a panic when I called. As soon as I arrived, they were ready for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean and pleasant, and Dr. Kamboj was up front and informative about the surgery, costs, and post op. instructions. Our dog Attila the Hun had a problem with his tail bleeding. He kept hitting it on the walls when he was happy, "Happy Tail Syndrome". So sad but he needed it removed, he is doing fine now. My family has been going here for years. Took my 11 month old puppy there for the first time thinking he had swallowed a foreign object that could have created blockage in his intestine. The hospital staff acted quickly and was very caring with my little guy. If you take your pet here and they recommend to you that they keep your pet overnight please know that no staff will be there overnight to check on your pet. We lost our beloved dog Maddie Rose 8/31/13 whrn we left her at SSPH for treatment. Other local pet hospitals do have staff to check on your pets overnight. I would have rather taken Maddie home to pass in comfort with us. She was not yet 5 years old and she walked into the hospital. . We will forever regret leaving Maddie Rose at this hospital. I started coming to So. Sac Pet Hospital on an emergency dec 09, my youngest dog needed stiches and I havent gone anywhere else since. The staff takes such good care of all 3 of my Rottie's from well care to the surgery my oldest dog just had. Dr. Samaan did the very risky surgery to remove a tumor from a very tricky spot. Dr. Kamboj did the follow up care. I was so scared I was going to lose my dog, but all the staff was so supportive to me and took the most awsome care of my ""old gal"". My dog was attacked on 12-29-10 by a rottweiler. I took my dog, Midnight, there right after the attack. As many of you know that own animals they are a family member that you love and want to protect. I was so nervous that he wasn't going to survive. They took us back immediately and took xrays. He had a fractured hip, possibly a ruptured stomach and rectum. He would need surgery. I went ahead for the surgery. After the surgery he told us that this was one of the worst dog attacks he has seen in a very long time. He stomach was ripped from one end to the other and his rectum on up his back. His tail had 2 punctures which resulted in about 3/4 of his tail amputated. The cost was $1560.00. We were able to take him home the next day. He had 7 tubes which needed to be cleaned 2-3x a day. Which I was able to do. Then one of his tubes got infected and they kept him for 2 weeks because of the infection. Dr. Kamboj was the vet that took care of my little baby. He was very understanding and only charged us $200.00 for the two weeks that he was there. Dr. Kamboj was very nice as well as his staff. My dog is still healing and still going in for check ups. I have an old dog with health issues and a young dog. I have always hated visiting vets. They seem to just do procedures and tests to get money. However, i went to one vet for for a few years about a decade ago who was a little too non-interventionist. South Sac Pet Hosp vets are the middle ground. I've had two different vets there, and the last couple of years, I've had the same vet each time. They examine the dog thoroughly when i bring him in, and they ask me questions and talk to me. I don't like spending a whole lot of money on an old animal, so i appreciate that they don't jump to tell you about tests and procedures. They either have the 'medical cost for animals' issue in perspective, or they are just good at reading their clients. Sometimes they will mention a test, why it MAY be helpful, and tell me the cost, but they don't pressure me. One of the best things is that my old dog is on anti-inflammatory and thyroid meds, and i can just go in and pick up refills. in the past, i've had vets that require that you bring the dog in and pay for an office visit/exam in order to get a refill. These guys only book you an office visit if you request it. Prices for visits are reasonable, and a couple of times i didn't have to pay for follow up visits. If a medication seems expensive, they can suggest alternatives. The doctors care about the animals, it is clear, and they listen to the human client. And the building is nice and new. I've never had to wait more than five minutes to see a doctor. When my young dog needed to be spayed and vaccinated, i called around, and they are on the less expensive side (except for, of course, the SPCA and some mobile clinics which were inconvenient for me). I've owned dogs for 50 years and while Iv'e have been fortunate to have the majority of them pass on due to old age, I've had 2 that have had major illnesses that were diagnosed by Dr. Kamboj and later verified by specialists. One of my dogs was recently diagnosed with a disease he will have for the rest of his life. Because of this he needs daily medication for treatment and tests done evey other month to see how he is doing. Unfortunately this process is not cheap. I have been going to SSPH for over 15 years. Dr. Kamboj and Staff have become like family. The front staff is very nice, understanding and greet you with a smile. Dr. Kamboj is the best vet I have ever been to. I will never take any of my animals to anyone else. It is stressfull enough to have to go to the vet sometimes, and to have the Dr. and staff recognize you and your animals and rememeber their history is wonderful. I took a cat in to be euthanized, a very painful experience naturally. I waited about 10 - 15 min and the vet didn't come in. I asked at the counter and learned he had, knowing he had an euthanization, left the building. I had to wait while he was called back. He apologized, belatedly. Another time, I took a cat in to be seen by this same vet. Someone came in after me with advertising about the vet's new building he was completing. He stopped to talk to her for some time, ignorning his paying clients. Same vet. I've gone in with an appt and been told by the front desk ""there'll be a good 15 minute wait - the vet just went into NON-emergency surgery"". I'm early? I asked. No,but he's the only one here. Then he comes out and said of course I'll take you. Apparently, no communication with the front desk about procedures in the back. The attitude is distinctly cool and uncaring and inferior. The vet had the gall to tell me (same vet) that I had to give them a LITTLE bit of a break. POOR POOR service and getting worse. Read Less
