We have been coming here a few years for our first dog but never got the idea that they like big dogs or maybe it's because she is a pit . Then yesterday we were in crisis with our second dog and they couldn't or wouldn't squeeze us in and we had to find someone else to help us. The main issue is feeling like they didn't care or wouldn't even attempting to help us. I took my first Yorkie to Dr. Sessa and everyone in the office loved her. Her name was Cricket. When she died I had moved to another town and went to the vet in our town that Dr. Sessa recommended. I had not gone to Dr. Sessa for over a year. He sent a sympathy card and donation in Crickets name. Early last year, after a less-than satisfying experience at Sisk Veterinary, we decided to give this place a try.  Many many vet visits later (we have five pets), I have no complaints.  Dr. Sessa is kind, liberal with his knowledge, and obviously cares about the animals.  He and his staff have been incredibly helpful, and have gone out of their way to help our pets.I would strongly recommend them for anyone looking for a vet in the Ripon/Salida/North Modesto Area. The staff is friendly, helpful, and obviously loves animals.They do those extra things to help my fur babies (and me) feel comfortable when we come in. I met Dr. Sessa and staff when my beautiful Annie had to go to sleep forever. I didn't want to take her to a cold bright exam room on her last day of life so I called my vet who referred me to Salida Veterinary Hospital. The staff was compassionate, and quick to send Dr. Sessa to my house to put Annie to sleep.  He was very kind, informative as to what he was going to do and how the process worked. Dr. Sessa allowed me to use his stethoscope to listen to my Annie's heart stop beating. If you can afford over priced procedures and rude staff this the place for you. We paid the over prices for our golden retriever, but could not afford the quote for a dental cleaning for our beagle. ($550 to $850) We took her to another vet, and they "purged" our retriever's file and closed it. By the way, the other vet only charged $267.We had another issue about how they decided to take a urine sample off the floor and charge us for an urinalysis test, which they prescribed antibiotics  for the beagle. Once the antibiotics were used up, they wanted to do another test. When our beagle peed on the floor the second time, they insisted it wouldn't be a good test. They got upset with me, when I asked why the first test off the floor was good enough to prescribe antibiotics. I question their integrity, and their ability to provide accurate medical care. Lastly, they looked in our retrievers ear and stated their was a foxtail inside. The doctor pulled it out without asking us, then attempted to charge us over $40 to take out the foxtail. They gave us store credit, but that just forced us to go in for something else that was overpriced.Somehow they are managing to block this review. Read Less

I have been using this vet  for the last 4 years.  I have always felt they were fair price wise and gave good advice.  My parents also use Dr. Sessa and recently had an emergency with their dog.  This practice went above and beyond.  Dr. Sessa even came in on his day off and waited for them to arrive from the emergency vet.  My pets are very lucky to be cared for by this practice.  They are THE BEST! We had been faithful customers of Dr. Moody at Sylvan Veterinary Clinic for years. Unfortunately, all good things must end and Dr. Moody retired. Now what?Thankfully, we found Salida Vet. Dr. Sessa is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable veterinarians around. He and his staff are infinitely patient and gentle with our neurotic dog, who is getting more neurotic the older she gets. (She was a rescue and we long ago gave up any hope she would ever be "normal". We love her anyway)And the size of the critter makes no difference. Our beloved Ratboys each received excellent care from Dr. Sessa as well, including surgery to remove a tumor or two. They are good about calling with reminders for vaccines, and just to offer suggestions to make your pet more comfortable etc. and occasionally, we get a coupon or two in the mail, which is nice. Dr Sessa and all of his staff are AMAZING!  I have never once felt anything but 100% confidence in the care they provide for my family.  I do mean family because any animal in my home is family.  The office is always clean and everyone there is friendly.  We have been coming here for 15 years and have never left feeling anything but completely satisfied.  With my recent visit I was given several options and was made to feel like whatever I felt right was supported.  I have never met a Dr that truly understands how much pets mean to people.   My 3 kids knew our cat was really sick and as I was prepping them for the worst my daughter said that she wasnt too worried because if there was something wrong Dr Sessa would most certainly be able to fix it, or he would help him get to heaven where he wouldnt be sick anymore.  Kids always seem to get to the true person and even she knew he cared about her cat!  If you are looking for a new Veterinarian PLEASE give this office a chance, you won't be sorry..If you like being treated like an animal loving owner that wants the best, individualized care for your pet, you are in the right place!!!!! Great customer service here. Doesn't feel like they are overcharging on the services they provide, except when I called to get my dogs boarded for the weekend. They mentioned it would be an additional $6 for playtime. Wow, really? That should be a given. I ended up paying the extra and keeping them here only out of convenience. Read Less

I am very picky of where I take my dog. Luckily SVH is really close to my house and provide awesome care of my dog. The vet and all the staff are wonderful and really care about animals. When I got my dog neutered they called me as soon as he was out of surgery and when I went in to pick him up the vet came out to explain how to take care of the surgery site. The place is very clean and organized.Dr. Sessa also is very involved in the community. He volunteers and donates to multiple community services in Salida regularly! Read Less

I always find it very hard to take a person seriously if they have just a few reviews, even worse if it's just one.My daughter and mom share custody of a crazy beagle, and have for some time now. Julius, has been going to Salida Veterinary since he came to live with our family. In fact, he was just there this morning for  shots. My daughter has gone to appointments, and both her and my mom rave about the service they receive there.Though I'm sure you can't please everyone, trust me I've written a scathing review (or two), I do have to say that we've been nothing short of pleased with this Vet. My animals are my family, so I'm very fussy about care. The staff at Salida Vet is of the highest standard, both professional and office. I always feel welcome and that they will do whatever it takes. Their groomer is even first rate. I have tried every vet in the area and noone compares to Dr. Sessa and his crew.
