On the advise of our vet, we brought our colicky Mustang IKE to them for Abdominal Xray to check for sand. He had A LOT! They treated him with IV fluids and tubed him 3 times a day, pumping oil & psyllium into him and 5 days later we picked him up SAND FREE! They posted his story & Xrays on their page. The doctors at Steinbeck were absolutely fantastic throughout a very serious colic surgery for my 25-year-old Arabian, Bayamo! They were so professional, responsive and caring, from the time we arrived in the trailer through the five-hour surgery, the ICU, and the after-care to three weeks later when I took him home. Not only did their expertise save my boy, they treated him like he was very special throughout his stay. I will be forever grateful to this amazing team!

I am very disappointed with my experience here. I called in for a quote for a horse to be sutured which I was told was going to be $115. The bill turned out to be $654. I felt that was a little far off the quote I was given. I have called multiple times and have yet to speak with a manager, and have yet to hear back from anyone. The stitches did not hold and the skin has died. I have received very poor customer service and I am very disappointed. I just want them to make things right.

My Mare was very ill and required a week's stay in isolation at Steinbeck. I was very impressed at the integrity of the care especially in making certain that no other animals were at risk for catching anything from my horse. Every caregiver that I encountered was top quality and open to answering any questions that I had and of course I had many. Dr Dykstra was in close contact with me throughout and she gave me confidence in the care and handling of my case. Thank you to all the committed, dedicated and passionate people that cared for my horse.

I've been working with the group from Steinbeck for months now, and time and time again they go above and beyond with their care for my horse. Besides the quality work they have done, they have also taken the time to give me all of the information I need to make the right decisions for my horse. And, they have treated my horse like she is their own, including checking on her late at night and early in the morning when I couldn't get out to check on her. They took her on Christmas eve for a colic incident and Tim personally hand walked her multiple times on Christmas day, sent me pictures of her from their hospital and basically made it so I could have a stress free Christmas. They respect my wishes for my horse while also giving me their expert advice. It's the perfect combination so that I feel like I am doing the right thing for my horse.

I have a background in health care but the equine veterinary world is a new one to me. Drs. Tim, Alex and gang were an immense help in the purchase of a horse for our daughter . It was a bumpy road with six pre-purchase exams on a variety of horses and an ICU stay for a full colic in a horse that was with us on trial. They responded promptly to phone calls, patiently explained issues that were completely foreign to us and always kept the horse's best interest as a priority. I don't know how we could have navigated this confusing world of equine medicine without their compassion and expertise.

I have been a client of this clinic since the 1960's--back in the day when Dr. Deter was a young veterinarian. There have been many changes since then--all headed in the right direction of greater excellence. Since Tim and Alex Eastman purchased the practice they have put in state of the art equipment and a complete operating theater--meaning that desperately ill horses don't have to travel 4 hours north or south for needed diagnostic equipment and/or operating facilities if needed. They have staffed the hospital with the very best veterinarians, techs, hospital and office personnel. The staff works together with the health of the animals as their shared goal. Steinbeck has become an educational center allowing vet students an opportunity to see what thy are learning in everyday practice, and providing internship programs for continued learning. Both Alex and Tim are very active in the community, donating hours of time and resources to numerous charitable causes. Their empathy is profound for the animals and the humans who love them. As the years have gone by I have had many old horses in their care--each became loved as if they belonged to the Eastmans. When those old timers left the planet, Alex & Tim's tears were as authentic as were mine. We grieved together.Seldom does one find a clinic, a staff, or owners as competent and caring as these. We in Monterey County are blessed that they are here.

In 2011 I bought an old mare, just to retire her, and I began using Steinbeck because they have state of the art equipment and lots of vets. My horse is fortunate to be pastured pretty close to their hospital - many people bring their horses great distances to be able to get the level of care Steinbeck offers. I got Sarah James when I made my first appointment and I feel very fortunate to have her. I want the same level of care for my animals as I do for myself and she provides that. She and I are on the same page and as someone who spent 20 years in animal welfare that is saying alot. I have always been able to get help for my horse the same day, sometimes within hours, or less of calling. When Sarah hasn't completely understood what is going on, she calls in an expert. Once I wasn't even charged for that. Sarah is young but I know she is part of a team of various levels of experience and specialties to confer with. The facility just off hwy 68, is beautiful, clean, and they allow you to visit your horse while in care. Sarah even sends me photos of what is being done when I am not there. Horses are very expensive to keep and a million things can go wrong with them. Equine vets have to keep up with tremendous amounts of information and deal with emotional humans. It takes a very special person to do this work and I do believe Sarah will help me do the right things for my horse, right up to the end.

Cost of PPE was $1450 and he rudely refused to refund any of it, depsite checking the horse's teeth being a most basic part of a PPE according to the Merck Veterinary Manual, and common knowledge, despite the fact I told him the horse's age was very important to me, and despite his office staff confirming the teeth should be checked during the PPE. Horse turned out to be not 12, but 19. Rather a gross error, and it cost me a lot of money since the horse is now retired with severe navicular (which he also probably had at the time of the PPE.) Massive fail, massively rude. Would never recommend him to anyone.

Have been a client for over 25 years and love everything about this clinic. The practice changed ownership some time ago and the transition seemed flawless, with lots of new Vets interning and updated equipment. They are caring, knowledgably Vets and Techs that understand about cost limitations and work with client's so their horse receives the best possible care. Dr. Durham and his Tech, Tiffany are the usual ones who treat the horses where I board and they are just top notch.Cannot say enough about the efficient Staff at the Clinic who walk you through everything so that all the paperwork is understandable. People do feel the services are a bit over-priced, but when you break down all the costs incurred to the Clinic forVets/Techs/Staff/general overhead and the education required to treat animals, it's not so much. Also, if Steinbeck doesn't know the answer to a issue with your horse, they go the extra mile to figure it out and consult with other facilities (including major teaching colleges). Extraordinary people!!!

I lost my horse 11 months ago, after having her as a family member for 27 years. My mare was a patient at this clinic, when it used to owned by Dr. Deter and Dr. Fowler. I've owned four horses, total, and have pretty much stuck with this clinic. The place did change in the last 5 years or so. Dr. Deter and Fowler are gone, and there's a whole new team of young and "fresh" new vets. I've never had a problem with them. Pricey? Yes. But, they've added a lot of new state-of-the-art equipment. Last June, when my horse had severe colic, one of the newer female vets responded to my emergency call. It was on a Saturday. She showed up within 45 minutes. Things were bad, and I had a grim feeling I was about to lose my mare. She was so compassionate, and explained all the options. Realizing that paying thousands of dollars, to try and save her, at that old age was not fair to my horse. I had to make a difficult decision, and I opted to humanely have her put down. The vet (I wish I could remember her name, but I was crying too hard), ended my horse's life with dignity and it went fast. I received a signed card, from all the vets, a week later. I've tried a few other vets, but ultimately, I liked that my horse's records were pretty much all at this clinic. Owning a horse is expensive, period. I'm through owning horses, at my age and financial situation. If I ever change my mind, I'd come here first.

They have many excellent equine vets here. They can teach your stallion to the phantom and ship his goods. Their collection services are very pricey and I am not too happy they require your stallion to have an EVA vaccine but they do an excellent job with the collection and process. Customer service is A+ with them, all the vets and the staff are super nice. They offer breeding packages and surgery...facility is very nice and clean. I definitely recommend them!

My Mare was very ill and required a week's stay in isolation at Steinbeck. I was very impressed at the integrity of the care especially in making certain that no other animals were at risk for catching anything from my horse. Every caregiver that I encountered was top quality and open to answering any questions that I had and of course I had many. Dr Dykstra was in close contact with me throughout and she gave me confidence in the care and handling of my case. Thank you to all the committed, dedicated and passionate people that cared for my horse.

This is without a doubt the finest equine facility on the west coast. Between State of the Art equipment and the incredible skills and dedication of the Eastman's and their entire team there is no comparison. I've been working with the group from Steinbeck for months now, and time and time again they go above and beyond with their care for my horse. Besides the quality work they have done, they have also taken the time to give me all of the information I need to make the right decisions for my horse. And, they have treated my horse like she is their own, including checking on her late at night and early in the morning when I couldn't get out to check on her. They took her on Christmas eve for a colic incident and Tim personally hand walked her multiple times on Christmas day, sent me pictures of her from their hospital and basically made it so I could have a stress free Christmas. They respect my wishes for my horse while also giving me their expert advice. It's the perfect combination so that I feel like I am doing the right thing for my horse.

I have a background in health care but the equine veterinary world is a new one to me. Drs. Tim, Alex and gang were an immense help in the purchase of a horse for our daughter . It was a bumpy road with six pre-purchase exams on a variety of horses and an ICU stay for a full colic in a horse that was with us on trial. They responded promptly to phone calls, patiently explained issues that were completely foreign to us and always kept the horse's best interest as a priority. I don't know how we could have navigated this confusing world of equine medicine without their compassion and expertise.

I have been a client of this clinic since the 1960's--back in the day when Dr. Deter was a young veterinarian. There have been many changes since then--all headed in the right direction of greater excellence. Since Tim and Alex Eastman purchased the practice they have put in state of the art equipment and a complete operating theater--meaning that desperately ill horses don't have to travel 4 hours north or south for needed diagnostic equipment and/or operating facilities if needed. They have staffed the hospital with the very best veterinarians, techs, hospital and office personnel. The staff works together with the health of the animals as their shared goal. Steinbeck has become an educational center allowing vet students an opportunity to see what thy are learning in everyday practice, and providing internship programs for continued learning. Both Alex and Tim are very active in the community, donating hours of time and resources to numerous charitable causes. Their empathy is profound for the animals and the humans who love them. As the years have gone by I have had many old horses in their care--each became loved as if they belonged to the Eastmans. When those old timers left the planet, Alex & Tim's tears were as authentic as were mine. We grieved together.Seldom does one find a clinic, a staff, or owners as competent and caring as these. We in Monterey County are blessed that they are here.

In 2011 I bought an old mare, just to retire her, and I began using Steinbeck because they have state of the art equipment and lots of vets. My horse is fortunate to be pastured pretty close to their hospital - many people bring their horses great distances to be able to get the level of care Steinbeck offers. I got Sarah James when I made my first appointment and I feel very fortunate to have her. I want the same level of care for my animals as I do for myself and she provides that. She and I are on the same page and as someone who spent 20 years in animal welfare that is saying alot. I have always been able to get help for my horse the same day, sometimes within hours, or less of calling. When Sarah hasn't completely understood what is going on, she calls in an expert. Once I wasn't even charged for that. Sarah is young but I know she is part of a team of various levels of experience and specialties to confer with. The facility just off hwy 68, is beautiful, clean, and they allow you to visit your horse while in care. Sarah even sends me photos of what is being done when I am not there. Horses are very expensive to keep and a million things can go wrong with them. Equine vets have to keep up with tremendous amounts of information and deal with emotional humans. It takes a very special person to do this work and I do believe Sarah will help me do the right things for my horse, right up to the end.

Tim Eastman failed to check the teeth on a horse he did a pre-purchase exam on for me. Cost of PPE was $1450 and he rudely refused to refund any of it, depsite checking the horse's teeth being a most basic part of a PPE according to the Merck Veterinary Manual, and common knowledge, despite the fact I told him the horse's age was very important to me, and despite his office staff confirming the teeth should be checked during the PPE. Horse turned out to be not 12, but 19. Rather a gross error, and it cost me a lot of money since the horse is now retired with severe navicular (which he also probably had at the time of the PPE.) Massive fail, massively rude. Would never recommend him to anyone.

Have been a client for over 25 years and love everything about this clinic. The practice changed ownership some time ago and the transition seemed flawless, with lots of new Vets interning and updated equipment. They are caring, knowledgably Vets and Techs that understand about cost limitations and work with client's so their horse receives the best possible care. Dr. Durham and his Tech, Tiffany are the usual ones who treat the horses where I board and they are just top notch.Cannot say enough about the efficient Staff at the Clinic who walk you through everything so that all the paperwork is understandable. People do feel the services are a bit over-priced, but when you break down all the costs incurred to the Clinic forVets/Techs/Staff/general overhead and the education required to treat animals, it's not so much. Also, if Steinbeck doesn't know the answer to a issue with your horse, they go the extra mile to figure it out and consult with other facilities (including major teaching colleges). Extraordinary people!!!

I lost my horse 11 months ago, after having her as a family member for 27 years. My mare was a patient at this clinic, when it used to owned by Dr. Deter and Dr. Fowler. I've owned four horses, total, and have pretty much stuck with this clinic. The place did change in the last 5 years or so. Dr. Deter and Fowler are gone, and there's a whole new team of young and "fresh" new vets. I've never had a problem with them. Pricey? Yes. But, they've added a lot of new state-of-the-art equipment. Last June, when my horse had severe colic, one of the newer female vets responded to my emergency call. It was on a Saturday. She showed up within 45 minutes. Things were bad, and I had a grim feeling I was about to lose my mare. She was so compassionate, and explained all the options. Realizing that paying thousands of dollars, to try and save her, at that old age was not fair to my horse. I had to make a difficult decision, and I opted to humanely have her put down. The vet (I wish I could remember her name, but I was crying too hard), ended my horse's life with dignity and it went fast. I received a signed card, from all the vets, a week later. I've tried a few other vets, but ultimately, I liked that my horse's records were pretty much all at this clinic. Owning a horse is expensive, period. I'm through owning horses, at my age and financial situation. If I ever change my mind, I'd come here first.

They have many excellent equine vets here. They can teach your stallion to the phantom and ship his goods. Their collection services are very pricey and I am not too happy they require your stallion to have an EVA vaccine but they do an excellent job with the collection and process. Customer service is A+ with them, all the vets and the staff are super nice. They offer breeding packages and surgery...facility is very nice and clean. I definitely recommend them!
