My 2 boys Bentley & Shiloh LOVE this place! Not sure what they have behind the door at this Vet, but it must be Disneyland for animals! Bentley & Shiloh are hiking dogs & Shiloh has had some bad injuries; like getting a foxtail in his paw that made its way up into his leg causing an infection and had to have surgery to get it out, he hurt the joint in one of his legs that cause swelling and lots of pain, and recently he was bit by a rattlesnake on the trails. They took care of Shiloh w/ the best treatment plan & top notch medication saving his life! I've been to several vets in the area & 4Paws has been the best overall! What a blessing Dr. Barnes and 4 Paws Animal Hospital staff have been.  Our American bulldog, Cody, has had many surgeries during his lifetime because of removal of multiple mast cell tumors, two knee replacements and ingesting things he should not have eaten (rope, etc.).  Dr. Barnes' diagnoses have always been accurate and his explanation of what needed to be done was easily understood.  We know that Dr. Barnes has extended Cody's life by many years.  We are forever grateful! If it were possible to give more stars, I would! I cannot even begin to say how incredible Dr. Massey and the staff at 4paws are!  Our dog was diagnosed with anal gland cancer a little over 3 months ago. Dr. Massey had the best bedside manner during our consult. He was very understanding to my crying like a baby. He offered comfort and great advice for us as we moved forward. Yesterday our dog, Kota, crossed the rainbow bridge and we couldn't have done it without Dr. Massey and his Nurse, Craig. They both were very respectful and comforting during one of the hardest moments in our lives. They gave us all the time we needed to say our good-byes and gave us confidence that Kota would be treated with the upmost respect after we left.  One of the techs even left a big kiss mark on the top of his head while he got his IV port put in. If that isn't a sign that the 4Paws staff love our pets like their own, I don't know what is. We are moving up to Orange County after the summer and we would be willing to make the drive to keep Dr. Massey as our vet for Kota's Brother, Dug. That is how much we trust him. Dr Barnes goes above and beyond to care for his clients, human and animal alike.  Our dog had a surgical emergency just before Christmas.  Dr Barnes performed the surgery on short notice and saved her life.  She had to spend a few days in the 4Paws hospital to recover and Dr Barnes came to meet us at the hospital, even on Christmas Eve night.  He brought his daughter and seemed genuinely happy, jolly even, to help us despite the inconvenient timing. While I believe the vets and staff here are fully qualified, the prices here are simply ridiculous!  Our dog had an open wound we wanted examined.  After looking at it, they were asking an additional $28 for a bandage and $58 to clean it with saline.  That's outrageous!  $28 for a bandage!  In the year 2050 maybe, but hello!  This is 2015 and a box of large bandages is $8 at CVS.  We've been going here for a while, so you would think they could throw in something as simple as a bandage, or at least do it at cost.  And this is after we paid $60 for the exam.  Then $58 to rinse out the wound with saline.  Another travesty!  I guess because of the area they have to pay their lease.  Gotta pass it onto the customer.  So much for your friendly neighborhood vet.  Do yourself a favor and support a local vet somewhere else that's concerned more with your animals well being. I just love Dr Barnes and Dr Cory! And so does my dog! Whenever it's time to go see one of them, I just say let's go see Dr Barnes and he is at the door, wagging his tail. Everyone at 4 Paws makes Brinkley feel loved and special. He thinks they are all playing with him when he is being examined or treated. I also love the groomers and the quality of work they do. Brinkley always looks so handsome when he leaves. Just be sure if you want a grooming that you call well in advance as they are very busy.Read Less

I brought Warner here shortly after I adopted him for a standard vet exam. 4Paws is an AKC-recommended vet, and because I had just registered him, his first exam there was free. It actually turned out that Warner had an ear infection that I wasn't even aware (I know, bad mommy). The facility is very clean and the staff extremely friendly. But somehow, between the ear infection and a standard heart worm exam and meds, I spent a couple hundred dollars - and that's with the exam itself being free! And just for a follow-up to check his ears, they charge the same as a full exam. I also asked for an estimate for neuter and umbilical hernia repair, and it was outrageous! They also wanted to do a cryoprobe procedure to freeze off the hair around Warner's eyes to prevent future ulcers, but I wasn't entirely convinced he needed it. I felt like I was being upsold, and I really hate that feeling. I ended up going to North County spay & neuter clinic, which costed less than half of what 4 Paws quoted me, and it even included dew claw removal. I understand that 4 Paws might have to charge more being located in 4S Ranch, but I still don't think the prices are justified.I now bring Warner to Dr. Bob McCool at Best Friends Vet in Poway, and we're both super happy there. Dr. Barnes is very knowledgeable and won't order unnecessarily expensive tests just to gouge you.  Yes, the office fee and such may be slightly higher than other places, but I simply wouldn't trust anyone else with my dog except this office.  I have almost always seen (and prefer) Dr. Barnes, but have also had good experiences with Dr. Chu.  She was super quick to return a phone query about an issue my dog was having, and also very helpful and kind. My lab girl was attacked by a pitbull a few months ago and I am SO glad that I found Dr. Greenfield at 4Paws! I don't think that she would have healed nearly as well if we had decided to go with another vet.My dog was originally seen just after the attack at an emergency vet where she was stitched up and given pretty strong pain meds. A few days after, she developed what looked like a tumor on her front paw. Being new to the area and not sure where to go for regular veterinary care, I made an appointment with a new vet that day to have it checked out. The vet completely scared me and told me that she probably had a cancerous tumor on her paw and that it should be check out by an veterinary oncology specialist.The diagnosis sounded a bit strange to me and also quite pricey, so I decided to ask around for the name of a good vet. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Greenfield at 4Paws. I called the office and asked for an appointment the next day. I also expressed my concern about the lump on her paw. Dr. Greenfield called me that same evening after work and explained to me that there was nothing to worry about with my little girl. Since she had been bitten a few days before, the "tumor-like" spot on her food was actually a result of air being trapped between her skin...subcutaneous ephasia (sp?). Apparently, dogs have two layers of skin, which is what caused the issue--who knew!I can't believe that Dr. Greenfield didn't even see my dog in person and he was able to diagnose her over the phone. We met with him the next day and what a difference from the other practice! I was completely blown away not only by Dr. Greenfield, but by the entire office. The level of professionalism that they have is just incredible. My dog was pretty beat up when we arrived for our visit and they were so sweet and gentle with her, offering her treats and ear scratches to get her comfortable with the new place. We saw Dr. Greenfield throughout the entire recovery process and I could not be happier with how well she healed. The front desk even called at home to check in on her and see how the stitches were healing. I recently moved to Orange County, but I continue to drive over an hour to 4S Ranch to have her seen. I just don't trust anyone else! If you are looking for a caring, competent, and compassionate vet, look no further that Dr. Greenfield at 4Paws! He's the best! Read Less

Our large german shepherd dog is aging, and unfortunately has been experiencing so much pain from arthritic hips that he'd been having poop accidents everywhere, couldn't walk properly, couldn't manage the stairs... it has been a difficult few months at the beginning of the year.  However, because of Dr Barnes's dedication, and his exceptional staff, we've been able to find the right mix of pain medication and new food.  The result is that our gentle giant is enjoying life again!  Dr Barnes made a few house calls because our 125 lb. dog can't manage the SUV cargo jump (and unfortunately he refuses to use a ramp!  grrr.)  so we are grateful our vet makes house calls, thus we can avoid a broken hip/leg. It's worth the house visit fee, plus Dr Barnes comes with technician assistants to draw the blood, etc.   Once the pain meds stabilized, we tried Dr Barnes' recommendation of the Prescription Hill j/d food which has super high levels of fish oil and higher other ingredients.  Gotta say, we do think it has made a HUGE difference.  And though it is expensive, it is worth it.  At least now we don't need to supplement with other fish oil capsules, that offsets some of the costs.The pain meds are expensive, but a silver lining came in the rebate program that we take advantage of!  So I just scan the receipt and upload to the pharmaceutical site, and we get our rebate debit card reloaded which we can use toward any purchase at the vet, including a vet visit.  I know our fur-boy is slowing down, but with Dr Barnes' proactive and compassionate care, we're extending our time with him...  at the start of this year, we were really worried about our precious boy's physical state.  He's very comfortable now.
