My five year old mini Aussie underwent TPLO surgery at Bernardo Heights Vet Hospital and they did an awesome job! From the initial exam to the post op care this facility is absolutely fabulous. The staff is extremely competent and so caring and considerate of both pet and owner. Dr. Anderson was very conscientious in explaining the diagnosis and prognosis and Dr. Frankel's skills as well as his follow up in keeping me advised were magnificent. The medical care here was exceptional, but I have not used this veterinarian for a couple of years since I always felt pressured to obtain extra medical procedures. The prices were very high compared to the veterinarian I now use and the care was no better than my current vet who is open 7 days a week. Read Less

I took my cat here at the end of the day on a Friday after he returned to me in a sorry state. I initially thought he was dehydrated, but we later realized he was attacked or hit by a car. He was under there care for about an hour while they ran tests and fixed him up and I'm so thankful for the staff! Dr. Abrams is great and kept me well informed the whole time. His thorough assessment lead to my cats quick delivery of care. I also want to think Kevin for coming up to us right away and getting things started. I was very impressed with the entire staff and their commitment to professionalism. I have a little 2- year old mutt, Happy. (She is the best dog ever). She was born with a (very cute) underbite. But at 2 years old she was already getting substantially dirty teeth. Dr. Anderson was very knowledgeable and kind to Happy. The other 3 clinics I called didn't offer the services (the sealant for dogs' teeth), and were the same price or more expensive. Happy also got two small lumps removed at the same time, along with a nail clipping. The staff was quick to follow up, and Dr. Anderson gave Happy extra special treatment! BHVH was great. They worked Pearl (a new patient) in quickly and provided a treatment that is somewhat unique (allergy shot) and hard to obtain. Moreover, they did it at a really reasonable price (for both the shot and the initial visit). I will start off by saying that if you are just going for regular check-ups this veterinary hospital is probably perfect, BUT if your animal has received a deep trauma, I beg you to take them to a qualified veterinarian surgeon that specializes in these situations.  I feel like my dog was more of an experiment than them actually knowing what the heck to do.My dog was attacked by two dogs and de-gloved on one of her back legs.  We took her here and they did not even stitch her up.  They just bandaged her hoping it would grow back.  They admitted they only deal with these types of cases a couple times a year, but that should be their cue to refer us to a specialist, not take our money.  We were to go back every couple days for new bandaging.  I noticed she was beginning to smell STRONGLY of death the night before we took her in.  It turns out it was because her skin was literally DYING which also could have killed her (I was told) because it was welcoming in new bacteria.  When I took her in the next morning they didn't know why she smelled bad.  We took her in a 9am to have her procedure, mind you with her smelling like death and stomach bright purple, and they didn't work on her until 4 pm!!  That right made me very upset.Later they decided the smell was the bacteria coming out of her.  Nope!  When we got home, within seconds of her standing up the whole bandage fell right off exposing her brutal wound (still not attached mind you).  This forced us to take her to a 24 hr specialist which ended up being the best decision ever.  The vet was horrified with the way she was being treated, saying she doesn't even know if she can re-attach the skin now as it's been dying this entire time.  Within two days of being with the new vet her personality is coming back strong.  I thought she was maybe dying because of how she was acting before.  Her skin was grafted and stitched up and we hope the graft will take since everything took several days to be fixed.  Anyway, I am very upset.  I was refunded $135 but paid WAY more than that for pointless procedures.  The whole thing is a pretty bad experience despite the staff being incredibly kind.  This is my baby though.  I don't have time for mishaps that never should happen with proper experience. I started taking my new English bulldog to see Dr. Anderson and felt instantly welcomed by him and his staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The office has a "family-vibe" to it, which is refreshing since most vet offices nowadays are so busy they barely remember who you are. I have been back to see them now 3 times and every time the staff is exceptional. I even was able to meet Dr. Abrams in passing and he was very nice as well. I have two Tonkinese cats and have had a frequent experience that vets are super dog-oriented, seeming less interested or even as experienced with cats. I have not found that to be the case here. I also appreciate that they are willing to discuss the elements of the "treatment plan" so that the owner can better understand the elements and have some input on whether to do it all at once or incrementally. We have 5 pets that we take to Dr. Anderson; 3 dogs and 2 cats. He is such a kind-hearted, knowledgeable, and patient person, and is a pleasure to work with. He really takes the time to give your pets the care they need, and is very personable. Arlene at the front desk is so good about remembering all of our animals and is always so sweet to talk to. Leslie, Cece and all of the other veterinary technicians are so kind and helpful, and really give our pets lots of love when they come in. Leslie even made my puppy Christmas decorated casts for his broken toe. They are such a wonderful group of people to take your animals to; I wouldn't take them to any other vet aside from Dr. Anderson. Read Less

I highly recommend Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Anderson is very knowledgeable and stays up to date on the latest treatments. I trust Dr. Anderson with the care of my cats (Jeremie and Emilie). My mom also has her cats (Timmie, Montie, and Katie) under the care of Dr. Anderson. Dr. Anderson takes the time to explain medications and what is the best treatment for my cats. I feel very confident that my cats are obtaining the best care. The wonderful doctors and caring stsff at this clinic are simply Angels. They have cared for my mom's elderly cat with patience, kindness, realistic options and we finally said goodbye to our Muffin under their most loving care. To take one more step to let us know that we are part of their family, we received a sympathy card with the sweetest paw print on a separate card with muffin's name on it. Happy to bring my dog Jenny here. The office is quiet and clean and the staff is knowledgeable and efficient. A couple months ago Jenny downed a piece of toy that may have been small enough to pass but was big enough to concern me. Bernardo Heights was able to get her in and induce vomiting to bring it back up. Just as a bonus, I caught one of the techs brushing Jenny in the back as I was paying. I don't remember the tech's name but she got caught doing something nice. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Abrams are both very kind and overall this is a fantastic facility. Highly recommend! Read Less

I have been taking my Cocker Spaniel to Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital for a few years now, and I feel that they have great customer service and have always helped take good care of my baby. My furkid is now 14 years old and he just loves them. He is very comfortable there, and that makes me comfortable in taking him there. All the staff is very friendly. I am so happy to have switched to this vet over a year ago for care of my rescue terrier/bichon mix. Both the doctors and the staff are truly helpful and approachable. The follow up is great. He knows how to handle all types of pets, including my dog who is not the easiest to deal with when going to to his veterinary appointments. My Bichon had been bitten by a coyote and I was nervous of how the visit would go, not only for my pet but also for my pocket book. Fortunately, their care was outstanding, thorough and reasonable. My dog is a 90lbs baby, and Dr fennel was great with him, he has a bad irritation to grass and they helped us work on some options to reduce the pain he was getting in his paws and ears. Services were very reasonable and affordable, our new puppy will be visiting soon. Read Less
