So I really liked this place the last time I came, this time I felt MUCH different. I felt like the whole goal of everyone here is to sell, sell, sell, even treatments that an animal may not necessarily need. They immediately ask for payment BEFORE doing any type of service. They were trying to get me to let them give my cat a cordisone shot even before they took a skin scraping to find out where the rash on my cats ear was coming from. I'm not looking for a vet that wants to just sell anything and everything under the sun and send u out the door, I want one that cares what is best for the pet. Yeah I'm not going back here. We went in for a canine annual exam and vaccines for my 4-year old lab girl but, to my surprise, had a very different experience from other reviewers. Every one we encountered was "nice" but demonstrated disorganized, amateur, careless practices. From making my well-mannered, gentle labrador terribly uncomfortable during her exam/vaccines (which has never happened at any other vet before), appalling bio-hazard handling, awkward/inexperienced dog handling skills by the staff and vet (Dr. Quines), to uninformative/canned responses to health questions by the staff and vet; it was utterly disappointing. It felt like every one was just "going through the motions" unlike other vets and staff whose experience, knowledge, love and connection to animals shines through in their ease of interacting with pets and pet owners. Beware: They muzzle your dog to shoddily examine and vaccinate, regardless of your pet's gentle manner. This obviously creates (truly unnecessary, in my case) great stress for your well-natured dog. Started going to Black Mountain Road Pet Clinic a couple years ago when my min pin needed emergency surgery for an abscessed anal gland. They have always had fair prices and explained everything in detail before charging for the work done. Had a 14 year old poodle undergo major dental work this past week, the doctor and tech listened to all my concerns and reassured me they would do as much as they could in an hour, as I didn't want her to be under anesthesia longer than that. I stayed in the office throughout the procedure, and was allowed to come in to the procedure room to see what work needed to be done. They prescribed several meds to take home and she was feeling herself later that same day. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome, and was pleased that the price wasn't outrageous, although they had let me know ahead of time it could run more costly if they discovered anything during the procedure. This office has helped me through surgeries on both my dogs, as well as maintenance care and I highly recommend them to anyone who asks.Read Less

This clinic saved my life. I was washed up and burned out from too many years in this field. I had hit that wall running and decided to do a career change after 30 plus years in this field. Spent a year in pitty not sure what I could do, when out of nowhere I get a call from Dr. Dhillon asking me to come work for him. I said no way! Not only was I never working in this god forsaken unforgiving field ever again his practice was 26 miles from my home. well 2 plus hours later I'm agreeing to "JUST" visit his clinic. When I entered and was taken to a room to talk to him, he stated the clinic had already hired me. I firmly stated I was not interested but wanted to know why he was so dead set on my working for him. He stated God told him I had a door closed that needed to be opened. He had me hook line and sinker. This place is so great. Not only do they make our dog feel comfortable, but my husband and I feel comfortable coming in. We don't feel pressured into doing procedures that our dog may or may not need. Everyone is very nice and make us want to keep bringing our dog back. We are getting a new puppy, and we know she will be in good hands when we bring her in. UPDATE: Something changed within the last year. You now wait for at least an hour in the room waiting for some kind of an update and then they tell you information when you're there but then when you call about it later, it changes. The vet found a heart murmur in my dog and didn't tell me when she found it. And then she tells us because our dog now has itchy skin and allergies that we don't need to bring him in for an exam every time we need refills, we can just call and get it refilled. I called, left a message on the RX line, no one calls me back. My dogs feet are now cracking so I called back and apparently a message was left for us at the reception desk at 3pm that we need to bring him in for an exam to get the meds. Why no one called us I don't know, and why did the story change? I hate this place now and am urging my friends to not go. What happened to Dr Dillon? He did everything possible to assist us during a difficult time with our cat and made a terrible process much easier. Our recent and first visit to the Black Mountain Road Pet Clinic was nothing less than excellent! Dr. Dhillon and his staff were very professional and courteous. My wife and I recently moved down here from Oregon and needed to find a new Vet to take care of our Yorkie and Lab. An unfortunate bite yesterday at the dog beach left a gash in our lab that needed attention, the staff here made us feel right at home and left us reassured that we would receive the best health care possible for our dogs, at a price that surprised us to be undoubtedly reasonable. I have had my dog for 14 years now and have been to nearly every pet clinic/hospital within the Poway area. Dr. Dhillon and his staff are by far the most competent and professional out of any of the offices I have visited. Dr. Dhillon is amazing in that he cares about his clients' animals and is willing to put in the time and effort to explain to his clients his procedures and exactly what their money goes towards. Most vets tend to overcharge and slam their customers with unnecessary fees and treatments - not Black Mountain Pet Clinic. The nurses and other veterinarians are friendly and go out of their way to connect with you. Dr. Dhillon goes above and beyond conventional efforts to treat his clients' pets and even sees them after hours if the situation calls for it. In the time I have been visiting the clinic, there has not yet been a condition or diagnosis that has stumped them. In addition to the awesome staff and doctors, the clinic itself is state of the art with up to date equipment and medical supplies. Their entire records system is electronic so looking up your pet's information is super fast. Pulling up the records happens in a matter of seconds, regardless of if the question is in person or over the phone. Their veterinary machines are all brand new and they are equipped to handle any sort of situation (minus emergency surgeries, which they do not tend to). Bottom line, your pet is in great hands when you bring it to this clinic. This clinic has it all - excellent customer service, reasonable rates and prices, and up to date machinery. I was at my wit's end with fleas on my Australian Shepherd. I went in to see if they could help and they definitely did. After a quick examination, they made me feel very comfortable with my pet's health. They got me exactly what I needed, and even gave him something for the itching. Remarkable - The hidden jewel in So. Cal. pet care. We recently encounters a medical problem with our dog Peaches. The unexpected cost associated with her medical condition caused a great deal of anxiety and Dr Dhillon (and staff) picked up on my emotions and took every possible step to ease the burden. They offered multiple solutions and went above and beyond to ensure that Peaches got the much needed medical treatment. Dr. Dhillon we as far as to follow me to the parking lot to express his concern for Peaches and took extra time to make sure that I understood all financial options. In the end, we were able to proceed with the surgery and received treatment which far exceeded the money spent. Dr. Dhillon requested that we contact him multiple times, late into the evening, to give him updates on Peaches' recovery and offered comforting reassurance as to how she would progress thru her next few days of recovery. Additionally, he asked that we contact him, first thing, the following morning. When he sensed that my wife was reluctant to force feed medications, he suggested that she bring Peaches in where he again went above and beyond. Noticing that my wife was emotional, the requested that she leave Peaches with them for 1.5 hours and they made sure that she received the floods, food and medicine she needed. Less than 36 hours after her surgery, around 8:45pm, I received a 3rd follow up call from Dr. Dhillon personally. I was happy to report that she has progressed much faster than I expected; but right on the timeline he projected. She is at 70% of her normal self and I have EVERY confidence that she will be at the 90% Dr. Dhillon expects when we wake up tomorrow. I can honestly say; I have never seen anyone so passionate about their patience or customers. To know that Dr. Dhillon often works 7 days a week (after 25 years in his profession) and accepts calls from 7:00am thru 10:00pm is nothing short of a passionate Dr. who is a Godsend to any pet owner within driving distance of Black Mountain Road Pet Clinic. Above and beyond any customer service that we have ever experienced. The facility was very clean & organized, the staff were very accomidating, polite and compassionate. From the minute we walked in, for an unexpected surgery on our dog, until she was 100% recoverd; they continued following up and educating us every step of the way. I brought 3 year old cat with respiratory problem, no other symptoms. He promised to get x-rays and see what?s going on. 10 minutes later he came out and said that my cat doesn?t allow him to give a shot to calm him down. He said I can use a mask but because of respiratory problem it?s very dangerous and might be lethal. I was insisting on helping him to hold my cat down if his other 2 nurses/assistants cannot perform same thing. Doctor replied that even if I help him my cat still can bite him (my cat doesn?t have claws so he can?t scratch, as well as it has all shuts). I was furious. Veterinarian is afraid of the cat bite. What does he thinks when animals are agitated they are fuzzy and its doctor?s obligation to find a ways to perform such an easy tusk as administrates sedative through shot? This doctor - Dr.Dhillon ? told us to go to emergency room because they are professionals. I asked him if they are professionals and they can administrate a shot who the heck is he? He said I can say anything but he can not help our cat. I will report him to State board and will force investigation with possible suspension of his licence for refusing our pet a first medical response. Don?t go to this doctor if you really care about your animal. He advertise that He offers and performs ? ?Black Mt Rd. Pet clinic is a full serviced Veterinary Hospital with state of the art hospital facilities. ** The Best Vet in Town ** You never know, when getting a new pet, how often you will need to visit your Vet. Like our children, our pets need medical care at all hours for all sorts of reasons. And finding a great Vet for our Pets is like finding a great Dr. for our children. This last month has been a trying month for our puppy Kobe. He was bitten by a rattlesnake on the mouth 3 weeks ago. We rushed him to Dr. Dhillon at closing time and he took amazing care of our Kobe for several hours past closing without even a complaint. Thankfully, Kobe survived. Yesterday, Kobe was hit by a car ( I know, it has been a brutal month). We rushed him to Dr. Dhillon again, at closing time, and he immediately took control and care of our dog while showing such care and compassion to us as we were a mess. My Kobe is going to be o.k, lets just say, he will be an inside dog for a while. When we first met Dr Dhillon 5 months ago, we had no idea how quickly he would become invaluable to us and our new puppy Kobe.At our first visit, we were surprised to learn about the after hours care we could receive with Dr. Dhillon. It never occurred to us that we would be using that service 2 times within the next few months. It makes them less nervous during their routine visits, and in the event that they get sick, it will be important that my pet knows the doctor and that the doctor, in turn, knows my pet. Dr. Dhillon also offers extended, emergency on-call hours, in case we really need him outside of regular office times.In the past I have had experiences with veterinarians who handle the pets like they are farm animals, pinning them down and not seeming to notice or care whether they are scared or uncomfortable. We have been so pleased with Dr. Dhillon and Black Mountain Pet Clinic we would strongly recommend them to anyone who loves their pets. Our cat of 9 years was sick and Dr. Dhillon met us at his office on a Sunday morning. After tests we determined that our cat would not get better, only worse. What a difficult time it was for our family and Dr. Dhillon took the time to patiently explain what was happening several times so we could make a decision we were comfortable with. We even received a phone call from the doctor making sure we had all of our questions answered. Only a month later our other cat got sick, again the doctor met us after hours, 8 p.m. on a Saturday night, to evaluate our cat. He gave us a phone call later that night to make sure our cat was okay and wanted me to call the next day with an update. Dr. Dhillon and his staff have consistently provided excellent veterinarian service both as preventative health care and when critical care was needed. They have provided excellent explanations of the treatments recommended and the various treatment options, allowing us to choose the desired course of action. Today was my first time taking my pit bull to this clinic and i love it! The Dr.Dhillon was amazing with our dog. He never judge it just because it was a ""pit bull"" The drive there was worth it. My boy had a sallowen leg because of him falling out of a truck window and when he check my dog out he said he wouldnt have us pay for things that were not needed. As an employee of a major pet specialty store chain, I want the best care for my animals, my pets have received quick, friendly service from Dr. Dhillon and his staff. Regarding fees, before finding this pet clinic, I was going to a different vet in PQ, they quoted a much higher cost to have a growth removed from my female cat's paw many years ago. We moved to San Diego in 2003 and tried a vet clinic in the neighborhood, but we didn't feel comfortable with it. A few weeks later we found Dr. S.S. Dhillon's ""A Blackmountain Road Pet Clinic"" and use it ever since on a regular basis for our dog, our two cats and our guest dogs. A Blackmountain Road Pet Clinic is the best value veterinary care in town! The staff are friendly, gentle and patient, and the vet, Dr. Dhillon, is not just very knowledgeable and realistic about how effective things we could do would be, but also cares above and beyond the call of duty for his patients. S.S. Dhillon D.V.M. treats every pet as if it would be his. During the last 5 years he saved our little dog's life at least 3 times by successfully performing very difficile hernia-surgery at a point where many other vets would have given up. And when our dog's condition was critical Dr. Dhillon did not hesitate to call us after hours and on Sundays to check up on the dog and assist us with helpful advice. There are vets in San Diego that would have charged us a fortune for this kind of service in emergency situations like these. But not Dr. Dhillon! He charged A LOT LESS than others would have charged. ""A Blackmountain Road Pet Clinic"" stands for old-school veterinary care with modern cutting edge medicine - AT VERY REASONABLE PRICES. Although our dog is pretty old now and has gone through a lot it still feels comfortable at Dr. Dhillon's Blackmountain Road Pet Clinic. Having a vet we can trust is extremely important to us.
