Our 12 year old lab even took a tour of the OR when they found a 3+ pound mass in his abdomen. The doctors and staff at Cabrillo were fantastic with my puppy during her first year of check-ups. I got regular reminders about everything I needed to do and making appointments was always easy and convenient. I recently moved abroad and the staff REALLY went out of their way to accommodate urgent and quirky requests. They were always available to certify forms, create forms to comply with unconventional foreign rules, and made the process SO much more pleasant than it would have been if I had tried to figure it all out alone. We have been bringing our critters here since I was a kid. It is always such a great comfort to know my fur babies are in the caring hands of the team at Cabrillo Pet Hospital. They have been there through kittens, puppies, rescues, senior kitties, been supportive and nurturing to us during some of our most difficult times. I am accustomed to seeing Dr. Rose, a wonderful vet.  But this past situation, on 5/26, with our doggy we were helped by Dr. Hibser and a whole staff full of people who got us in right away near the end of their workday. They operated to remove a foxtail that had been embedded in our baby 's nose for a couple days. Starting with the woman who answered when I called, all the way up to Dr. Hibser, the assistants and techs who followed up...everyone was great. A MILLION THANKS.  Unfortunately, our dog was brutally attacked by another dog here in Point Loma in the morning recently. Panicked and distraught we rushed into Cabrillo Pet Hospital barefoot and still in pajamas.  Dr. Rose and his team immediately went to work on our dog for eight minutes.  Unfortunately his injuries were fatal and there wasn't anything they could do to save him.  But what they did was amazing.  They were so very understanding and comforting during a traumatic and stressful situation.  They offered us waters, listened to us grieve and comforted us in our pain.  They didn't press for immediate payment and helped us arrange an appropriate remembrance for our dog when we came back later in the day to pay. The staff followed up with us to make sure we were doing okay and even sent us a lovely bouquet of flowers and a card with condolences.  We couldn't have asked for better care for our dog or compassion for our family.  Thank you again! This is my place to go for both of my fury children. I go to the vet here and i also board them here. My dog loves coming here which makes it easier on me when i have to leave him for a few days. This place is fantastic - top to bottom, not just the doctors.I called a few days ago because my cat wasn't able to urinate in his litterbox and the usual vet wasn't able to fit us in until three days later, which may well have been a death sentence in his case - they recommended I go to an emergency vet (which would have cost quite a bit of money).  I called Cabrillo before going to the emergency vet and the lady who answered (I'm sorry, I don't know your name) the phone said that they did not have an appointment until later that day, however upon hearing my problem put me on hold and then said that she had spoken with the doctor and would be able to fit me in immediately, which was outstanding.Dr. Rose took my cat and immediately let me know that he had dealt with this problem many times in the past and that we would be able to fix it.  He gave my cat great care and went to great lengths to save me money, going above and beyond the call of duty (in my opinion) for what was charged to me.  I've taken five trips to the vet over the past three days and each time Dr. Rose was courteous, professional, and even came in on his day off just to help out my cat.The first night they let me come pick my cat up so I didn't have to pay the boarding fee, and kept the pet store open late just so I could come by and pick the cat up.  The pet store staff were friendly and very caring.I cannot recommend this place enough - you'll have my business for as long as I'm in California. Thank you Cabrillo Staff for taking such great care of my animals, who I call my babies. We lost Olive, our special girl after 15 great years of unconditional true love. Dr Rose and Dr Hibser are very kind, knowledgeable and sympathetic to the love and care we want for our kids. The front desk staff is professional and always kind. I felt the Vet Techs are also knowledgeable and I could tell they loved what they do! They always made sure to let me know of any effects any medication or shot may have and I found this to be top notch service, as they showed care and professionalism! I love Cabrillo Pet Hospital. I would refer anyone to give them a try. I used to go to a different vet because it cost less however, I learned that the quality of service that you get at Cabrillo is 100% worth the extra few dollars. Carbrillo staff are over the top friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I never have to wait and they are very professional; taking time to help me. The vets take time to explain issues, offer options, and truly care and are concerned with my pets health. The facilities are beautiful. Cabrillo is a fabulous place to bring or board your pets in San Diego. Dr. Hibser and the staff here are excellent. They are caring and skilled professionals. Then there is Dr. Gary Rose. He is not professional. He is uncaring, and completely unskilled when dealing with sick animals or their well humans. He smacked our dying 14-year old 8-pound poodle twice on his swollen and painful right side, slapped the metal table he was lying on several times and startled him, yelled at my wife and I (he seems incapable of speaking in a normal tone), then flipped our poor little guy over onto his arthritic back for no reason at all, then pinched along his spine (again for no good reason) until our dog was in such agony that he tried to bite him (remember, he was a toothless, 14-year old toy poodle dying of liver disease)...then he laughed. LAUGHED.Dr. Hibser is wonderful, and the staff are amazing. Avoid Dr. Gary Rose. Read Less

I brought my dog in for an ultrasound for an unidentified GI issue. I could only schedule it on the weekend, and that meant they had to bring in a mobile ultrasound. Here are my complaints and observations: 1) I was supposed to, and was told, before paying $550, that I would get the results right away, but instead I have to wait until Monday (today is Saturday). Ridiculous. I was told the Dr. would be able to look at the results and get with me right after the procedure. Didn't happen. 2) My dog was brought out to me covered in whatever kind of gel they use for the procedure. It was all over his eyes and coat. Have some (expletive) respect. It's like bringing your car to the shop and having the mechanic leave grease all over your seat. 3) I can't see how any dog would sit still for an hour to have this procedure performed, yet they still charge an additional $100 for sedation on top of the $450 they charge for the ultrasound. Seems like a little overkill ? Hopefully you have pet insurance, too. 4) No after care instructions; no one asked if I had any questions, actually. No visit from a vet. Guess I'm on my own. The cost, while outrageous, is anticipated, but pales in comparison to how my pet is treated, and I guess how I'm treated as well. That is how I am rating this experience. I travel all over the country and have been to many vets. I hate when my dog is treated like a commodity and solely as a source of income for the particular practice. I chose this place because I am new to the area, and it's close to my house, and truth be told, it had good reviews. I will be looking elsewhere. Read Less

Coming to Cabrillo Pet Hospital has been a positive experience for my 13 year old Lab Maya, and myself. This is the first vet we've been to that she isn't trying to run for the door to get out. They took great care of my dog during her dental cleaning. I was super nervous about it, but the staff was very helpful in answering my questions and assuring me that she was in good hands. We have been taking our dogs to see Dr. Rose for years now. He is the best Vet we've ever been to. Because of this, when we first decided to start boarding our dogs when we went out of town, we of course, decided Cabrillo Pet Hospital was the place to go! We love all the staff there. They are always very attentive to our two Pugs, and we never worry about them when we're gone, like we used to. We used to have family come over and feed the dogs, but that meant they were by themselves a lot. Then we used a professional dog sitting company....well, what a disaster that was! If you know anything about Pugs, they love attention, and they get a lot of it at Cabrillo Pet Hospital. We will be boarding our fur kids again in November, and besides our Pug we have a brand new puppy, and we are sure both will receive great care when we're gone! Read Less
