Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital

San Diego, California
General Info
Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital, San Diego, remains a lifelong partner to families in California by being there for their pets every step of the way, from babyhood into adulthood. The appointments derive from habitually observing pet behavior, household routine patterns, and weekly family observations. During initial visits, veterinarians perform a thorough physical examination focusing on several areas such as dental health and gait, joint range, eye condition, hydration status, and nervous system response. Owners can relay the cat’s recent behavior patterns such as appetite changes, sleep fluctuations and alterations in handling tolerance. These patterns set the pace of care and prevent premature choices. Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital provides preventive care diagnostic panels, weight tracking, surgical consultations, senior wellness services, and chronic condition coaching. Plans are tailored to your family’s living conditions, whether you live in a city apartment with new noises or have other pets in your household. The transition implementations also help the pet owners remain steady as their pets’ healthy care needs move from preventive to monitoring or temporary to sustainable balance. Each step is explained in simple language. Behavior consistency, ease of home care and next visit readiness are the progress indicators. Instead, the team employs a spaced approach with built-in flexibility and optional check-ins. Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital offers San Diego families and California residents veterinary care services, which are responsive to pet life cycles and organized for progress. The team offers specialized services including Allergy Testing, Anesthesiology, Avian (Bird) Care, Behavioral Counseling, and Bloodwork. Clients praise the practice’s team for its dedication to care and attention to pets’ needs. From routine checkups to complex surgeries, the clinic ensures that your pet receives top-notch care in a serene and friendly setting.

i went in with my dog suspecting she had diabetes. i had told the doctor this and without doing any tests she just jumps to the conclusion and tells us that we have to put her down and tells us if aren’t willing to, then they will call animal control and take our dog from us. on the day before bringing her in, we go to a much nicer and professional vet and turns out it was not diabetes. i do not recommend this place, they do not truly care about animals. On March 16th I found myself at an emergency 24 hour animal hospital with my puppy vomiting all over the place. The doctors there were suggesting we order blood work, take a pancreatitist test, take xrays, etc without ever offering the Parvo snap test to me. Clearly I was in a panic over my sick puppy and the fact that I wasn't at my regular vet's office, Carmel Mountain Ranch. I decided to call our regular doctor, Dr. Gray. While at the emergency hospital Dr. Gray, Dr. Matsuda and vet assistant Felicia assisted me in my decision making. The first thing they asked was if the emergency hospital had taken the Parvo snap test yet, and I told them they hadn't suggested that test yet. They immediately told me to request the test. The other hospital said they didn't recommend it yet, and my doctors at RCMVH were adamant that they do the test. Thankfully they did because he came back Parvo +! The other hospital was going to have me pay for a whole bunch of unnecessary services first! Unbelieveable! I'm am so grateful for those 3 at RCMVH for assisting me with this emergency matter and always being so RIGHT! I've been going to CMRVH since they took part in saving my cat's life almost 4 years ago. It's like a family over there! Thank you for always being there for my furry babies, even if it's only over speaker phone at another animal hospital! You guys are the reason why my puppy is alive today. Had the Parvo test not been offered to me when it was suggest by your team, I wouldn't have treated him in during the most crucial time of the virus. Thank you Felicia, Dr. Gray and Dr. Matsuda! You guys are absolutely the best! Read Less

I used to like coming here, but the customer service has just been really poor the last couple years. What inspired me to complain on the internet is my encounter with jess. Jess has really bad hygiene. How are you going to constantly touch your face, scratch your scalp then lick your fingers in an area that's constantly rampant with animal excrement?? Disgusting. Other than that, they get the job done. Read Less

I'm so glad I chose to trust Carmel Mtn. Veterinary with my cat's health! Everyone at the clinic is very friendly and welcoming, the lobby and the exam rooms are kept neat and clean, my pet was seen as scheduled with no wait. The questions asked about my observations and concerns were thorough and I was reccommend a multitude of different options as to how our investigation could continue. Everything was explained carefully and clearly. The veterinarian let us know what steps he would like to prioritize but also allowed me space to plan at my own discretion. At the end of the appointment, I left having had my cat's ears cleaned (very well, I might add) and claws trimmed, but also knowing exactly which procedures I want to schedule next. I will definitely continue to recommend this clinic to other pet owners! Read Less

My mother has obvious dementia and early onset Alzheimer's. Her only concern in life is her toy poodle, so she was the perfect customer for this up-selling outfit. When my mother brought in her small dog with a complaint of diarrhea, the "Dr." should have simply instructed her to stop feeding it ice cream and hot dogs wieners. Instead, she was sold a prescription for her dog and charged $600.00 . That's right, $600.00 ! My mother emptied her bank account to pay the bill and left. Her dog was fine the following day. I have ALL of the documentation to prove the above accusations, and I am disgusted that Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital would sink so low as to take the advantage of a senior citizen in this manner. They do get busy and sometimes you have to wait around a bit, but I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get in or speak to a vet or technician. They always take their time to explain things and give different treatment options. We've lived in the area a long time and have had two older pets put down here. Amazing vet, they really treat you with the most respect, when my dog Bruiser started going down hill they were the best I could have asked for Dr. Ashbaugh was absolutely amazing, he was able to give Bruiser 3 extra months for me to spend with him, pain free, and when the time did come they were absolutely amazing, we did have to wait a little bit longer than I would have liked in the room with Bruiser (he was starting to get anxious and scared) but some thing's came up that they had to deal with and I completely understand it. once he passed the vet office will send your pet at your request to, Circle of life pet cremation services which also did an amazing job, they will privately cremate your pet, put them in an urn of your choice and give you a ceramic paw print of your pet, I also purchased the keychain urn so I could keep Bruiser with me wherever I went. all in all both services are absolutely amazing and I highly recommend them. We stopped using CMRVH after it became apparent they're more concerned with up sell then the pets. Every time we went there, even if it was just for a routine check up they would try to sell us everything possible. I honestly believe the staff is trained to sell, sell, sell. They made us feel guilty for not buying things.  The next time you go, take notice of their tricky up sell tactics. We're now with Poway Midland Animal Clinic and we're so happy. Finding Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital on Yelp was awesome! They were able to fit us in on a Friday evening to have our 11 year old Labrador's eye checked out.The parking was easy - even on a Friday night! The front office was extremely pleasant to sit in. No lingering smells, no dry and stuffy office setting. It was very comfortable and they even had a computer terminal & desk area set up if you needed to do some work. I believe it's free wi-fi :)Another cool thing about sitting in the front office: while we waited was that I saw technicians cleaning off door handles & making sure the room where the last animal was seen was efficiently wiped down before the next guest. I appreciated seeing that. When we were seen - it was a straight forward and mindful conversation with both the technician, as well as the Dr's we saw. I walked away with a feeling of honesty in suggested treatment, education about the affliction our dog was facing, conservative pricing and an overall excellent experience. We were also given options as for as strategy on how to best treat our animal.Their communications were clear, they answered all our questions - and were up to speed in the world, as in: they can email you all the specifics of your visit. We would 100% use this vet again. It's in a great location, they're great people and I appreciated the way they treated my family. Thanks a lot, Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital - you rocked it! :) Read Less

The first time I went into this office I had to put down my 9 year old English budgie. The second time I went into this office, not even a week later, I was bringing in my sick 12 year old budgie because it looked like she was fading fast. As a new client, the folks here were very accommodating, kind, and especially warm So, first visit. Nicky, 9 years old. He had a tumor that he was really struggling with and Kayla was very nice, very kind, the type of caring person who belongs in this field. Big Nick was a really cool guy. I just wish this office had seen him in his prime. My other budgie, the 12 (yes, 12) year old Chloe, fell ill a day or two later. She was puffed up, closing her eyes, and had lost a lot of weight. Her average weight is about 39, but she was down to 31.5, which is alarming for a creature of her size. Felicia was very accommodating in getting Chloe in at the soonest possible time. Again, brand new client and I feel she went above and beyond to get Chloe in.Dr. Grey knows her stuff. We were expecting a tumor to be found but much to our surprise, there was nothing obvious there. The theory now is there was some grieving over the loss of Big Nick that coincided with an infection she picked up. Since there was no obvious physical issue we opted to give her some more R & R and just keep an eye on her for a few days. Ever since then she's been perking back up, showing improvement each and every day. She eats like a madman her weight is back up to 39 or so. We still think there may be something underlying going on inside of her given her age but then again...maybe it was an infection she got over and she was just sad over Nick's loss. I look forward to future visits and getting my dog, Jenny, in there. I like this office a lot. Great work all around. Also big kudos on the candy bowl, that's just terrific. Read Less

I've had a few months to think about my visit. This is not an angry emotional impulse, this is a well reflected and considered review. The good. They were nice. bout all I can say. The bad. Refused to sell me real heart guard. I woke up at  2 am last night as my dog vomited her guts out. I believe it's the giant "generic" heartguard they sold me. People, it isn't worth being cheap about the medication you sell. Told i could buy the real stuff from their website .. huh? Who is running your website, if you have different meds? Right it might not have been the pill, but, the one they gave me is way too big for a 25 lb dog, and it's a battle to give it to her. Either way, weird choice not to sell real heart guard.Everything they tried to sell, they had to work to justify as it was all off brands. They wont sell real medication, then they try to convince you if you buy medication anywhere else it will be a Chinese knock off.. which.. wait.. that.. what.. they..sold..me?I asked about my dogs teeth, expecting to talk about brushing them. . LONG sales pitch about putting my dog UNDER to have her teeth cleaned?! There's nothing wrong with her teeth, shes a pup! Just looking to take care of her! This is what happens when you hear dollars, and not the person.Went in for itching.. The vet saw no flees, but sold me flee medication. What? My poor dog has allergies, not flees! Vet also told contradictory information from my research about flees. Scratching of the chest, allergies. Could barely get the vets attention. Nice lady, but too busy talking to the nurse, talking up selling, and didn't let me talk at all. I had to force questions as she tried to slip out.Bad meds and high pressure sales pitches.. I'd say 1 star is low, but they caused more problems and didn't solve the ones I came in with.  All I needed was Real Heartguard and doggy claritin. What a mess. Read Less

I was freaking out and didn't know what to do seeing as I had just got into town. The next day my partner suggested this place,  she had been taking her pets there for ages. We got there and Dr Grey was amazing. My dog is very shy and scared of most things and she got right on the floor with her and checked her where she was hurt. I was so pleased with the whole visit. I have been going ever since for all her check ups and any little thing. The staff is always so nice and and the price breakdown is super helpful. They dont push anything she doesn't need . I had to get this very expensive medicine for her allergies and though I didn't want to have to go that way, they broke down the price in detail so I knew what I was getting for the money. They ordered it and held onto it until I was able to pay in full. No pressure. Also, we live very far away(about 30 mins) and every time I go they give her a complimentary nail trip and file. Its great!  Last thing is I love the staff which I stated before but one of the vet techs Alice is my fav! She is always so patient with my dog and so nice to us. Suffice it to say that my two elderly dogs have been patients of Dr. Grey for the past 5 years and I couldn't be any happier with the care and service we've received. For one of my dogs in particular, who just recently passed away, we had a challenging situation of diagnosing and treating what turned out to be multiple significant conditions along with a variety of secondary ailments caused by the primary conditions and the treatments of those conditions. Through the entire process, Dr. Grey never wavered in her level of medical care; willingness and patience to explain all details, options, costs and side effects; and her personal interest and care in all of our well-being. For as long as our family has pets, Dr. Grey will most certainly remain our vet.Another added benefit of the clinic's location are the numerous places to eat, shop with a wonderful Trader Joe's and County library only steps away. Carmel Mountain Ranch Veterinary Hospital

San Diego, California
(36)
11925 Carmel Mountain Rd #802
San Diego California 92128

Read Less

I love this place! The day I moved to San Diego last year, the very hour I arrived my dog Olivia was attacked by my then new roommates dog.
