I do love Dr. Cote, who has been seeing our now 90-lb lab for over 9 years, since he was a puppy. If this review was just based on Dr. Cote, it would be a 5-star review. She is competent, kind and compassionate and I do feel that the care she has given is excellent. Now for the reason for the 3 stars - cost. Office visits are reasonable, but absolutely everything else they do is so expensive that in the past I've not done tests I might otherwise have done because of the cost. I have been quoted $300-$400 for a complete blood panel, $750 for a tooth cleaning (general anesthesia for a big dog), $800 for x-rays, etc. We had our dog neutered in 2007 as a puppy, cost after everything was close to $700. It was the first dog we'd had neutering for, I didn't realize that the procedure could be done for significantly less (and yes, I'm aware of the difference between I don't doubt her competence in performing these procedures, but for us, many times we just can't afford those costs. Once our dog had fleas and Frontline was not working so they recommended we try Advantage. I told her I'd buy it online but they convinced me to buy it there for convenience's sake, they said the price should be comparable. I bought it but when i got home I saw they'd charged me 3 1/2 times what I would have paid at Costco or online.I've paid $200 for amoxicillin (a cheap generic antibiotic drug), Nail clipping is over $20.As much as I love the doctor and staff, I just can't afford the procedures. I took our dog to a very highly recommended vet in south San Diego County and got the tooth cleaning (with the same anesthetics, blood panel screening in advance, and they clipped his nails while he was under) for $320, over $400 less than they were going to charge at Dr. Cote's.We care about and love our dog and we understand the difference between the super low cost spay and neuter services and what you get from a qualified vet, we also understand that this is what they may need to charge to cover their costs of business. It's an affluent community in general and there are many in the neighborhood who can afford their services.Unfortunately for us, it's a real stretch and now that my dog is older and needs more care, I just can't afford the tests I'd like to get done. I am happy to say that I've found an excellent vet who came highly recommended to me from a friend who rescues dogs and she charges about half for x-rays, blood, other tests, and medications. I would like to stay with Dr. Cote but it's just not in our budget right now. Read Less
