I first took my late gray female kitty Aries to Dr. Lewis' office in 2003. She was about 5 years old, and she had started throwing up. I was in a panic because I'd never had to take my cat to the veterinarian for an emergency until then. I didn't know any vets around North Park. I called one and they were busy so they referred me to Harmony. Luckily, Dr. Lewis' staff was able to get me in there the same day. Some sub-q fluids and a few X-Rays later and we were on our way. She even got Aries' first vaccinations done while we were there. Later I would learn I should have taken better care of my dear cat earlier, but I grew up around stray animals and they usually ran away before we could do anything for them. Now I know better. The facility is clean and spacious. Air conditioning makes it a nice place to be in the summertime, and the exam rooms, while not plentiful, were at least clean and nicely decorated. You can tell it's not a corporate facility...not the most high-tech, but definitely more than adequate. They don't charge you a fortune, either, so maybe the lower facilities costs are helpful. Lastly, there is a parking lot in the back, and some spaces in front, which is helpful for North Park and Hillcrest. I would have liked a larger waiting room. I felt like the dogs barking made my cat nervous. I guess that's the same way at most vets, though. Anyway, so that was my introduction to regular vet visits. Oddly enough, it took another 3 years before we figured out that my cat was not coughing because of hairballs, but because of asthma! We ended up at the animal E.R. in 2006. Aries almost died, but the E.R. revived her, and Harmony accommodated Aries in the morning for follow-up as soon as the clinic opened. Dr. Lewis wasn't surprised at the diagnosis, and she prescribed Prednisone, which I ended up giving Aries for the next 10 years with no discernible problems. Over the years Candy Lewis sure got to know my kitty. She even kindly joked with me, calling Aries "talkative" when she would meow in protest to having blood drawn and various procedures done. Never anything bad to say about my cat, and she was always helpful with answering any medical questions I had at the time. In 2010, I finally decided to have Aries' teeth cleaned there. Again, I wish I would have listened to Dr. Lewis' recommendations a few years earlier about the importance of teeth cleaning. She ended up extracting 7 of Aries' teeth, including 3 of her canines. Poor cat. :( At least Dr. Lewis and her staff did a good job of educating me and advising me of the proper after care procedures for Aries. Not surprisingly, my cat was in a much better mood after the problem teeth were out, but I felt sorry for her missing the teeth...she had to improvise with eating some food, but she did okay for the most part. So...why did I stop going here and go down the street? In early 2015, my kitty developed sudden urinary tract infection issues. I called Harmony and they did not have anything for another 3 days. Poor Aries couldn't wait that long. So I went to my brother's vet, and went there for the next year. The new place was more high-tech but cost a little more. However, they always had same-day time slots available, and they were open 7 days a week. That convinced me to change to the new one after all those years. I'm still a little sad I couldn't continue my business relationship with Harmony. Dr. Lewis really is a nice vet and person and I still think highly of her. I had pictured Aries making her final visit to the office. Sadly though, my poor kitty succumbed to kidney disease and some other health issues over the past 2 years, and I finally had to put her to sleep this July 13th, 2016. I thank Dr. Candy Lewis for helping Aries stay around in this world with me for so long, and teach me not to fear trips to the vet's office. I wish her the best. Read Less
