Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center

San Diego, California
General Info
San Diego's Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center establishes its healthcare approach through movement geometry principles. The initial display of tension in animals mingles with canine circling patterns and feline leaning behaviors to dictate decisions that shape daily practices throughout California. Direct approaches toward pets occur only when they give explicit invitations. Staff members modify their directional movement through the use of gentle curves combined with subtle sideways shifts and diagonal body angles. The startle reflex diminishes while orientation trust establishes. Caregivers occupy strategic positions by sitting at 90 degrees which enables animals to triangulate between comfort zones and medical presence. Before tools become visible observers detect blink rates along with paw arcs and balance shifts. The Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center offers a range of services including imaging techniques alongside early onset detection methods and chronic issue management while also providing cardio screening and gastrointestinal alignment with age-specific care. Access tolerance enables the sequencing of services. Certain animals permit side contact before allowing frontal interaction. People show improved responses when instruments are set on the floor prior to use. Discharge routines include re-orientation techniques: methods to walk pets out using calm zigzag motion and angles to approach for bandage inspection at home and where to set up bedding to prevent corner-trapping during recovery. These strategies diminish flight tendencies while restoring spatial confidence when the animal returns to its known environment. Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center weaves its care into the unique dimensions animals understand across every Californian neighborhood—from San Diego outward—transforming treatment from disruption to welcome invitation.

I cannot say enough good things about this place and Dr. B!Long review coming--I recently adopted my dog from a shelter in tijuana. He came to me in a little bit of rough shape, considering he was owned by an animal hoarder and abused, the shelter did what they could.I wanted to have a general check over for him and I also needed to get his rabies shot redone, as the county does not accept records from Mexico for registration.I found this vet on yelp and decided to go for it. I called and spoke with one of the ladies at the front (I think it was Micki but i'm not 100% sure, regardless she is great) and explained what was going on and she was very sweet and informative as to what I should expect.Fast-forward to my appointment day, I got a call from them a few times. I was at work so I couldn't answer, but they had a cancellation so they asked if I wanted to bump my time up which worked for me.I got there and was handed the minimal amount of paperwork they require which was nice, I was expecting a lot, and was seen immediately. The vet tech was very sweet and let me know about some other vaccinations they offer that they have been recommending.Dr. B came in and he was GREAT with my dog! He took his time checking on him and got down on the floor to palpate his stomach and listen to his breathing and heart. He was so patient with my dog and made sure to let me know what he was doing and why he was doing it.He was very thorough and informative and asked me if there was anything I wanted to know since he knew my dog was a new addition to my life. They tried to bribe him with treats and peanut butter to look at his teeth, and it took a good 15 minutes for him to go along with it. But Dr. B and the tech, Alexis, did not get frustrated even in the slightest. One of the best parts that I wish more reviews mentioned was that it is a fear free vet. Amazing! Especially for the rescues. He also gave me samples of flea medications to see what type I like best.On top of that, the first visit was free since he is a rescue and new to the clinic. So nice! They were so professional and courteous towards my dog and I and I don't think I could ever go to another vet now. The peace of mind knowing that he is in great hands is worth it's weight in gold for me. No pushy up-selling, no stress on my dog, great customer service and friendly faces. I am a happy owner! This is the second vet I've tried since moving to San Diego two years ago for my cat and, as long as Dr. Sorrells is there, I'm a patient. When my cat and I moved here from PA, he started developing a slew of health issues: extreme barbering, sneezing, goopy eyes, etc. His previous vet (Kensington Vet) put him on a food trial and we ended up with a grain-free option, which was fine, but didn't help much. I took him to KMVC and met with one of their vets (who is no longer there) and had a great experience; He suggested a different brand of grain-free food (which helped), we talked about reducing his stress (which can cause similar symptoms) and overall, I felt like he was knowledgeable. My second experience after this doctor left was with Dr. Barre. Dr. Barre literally told me he had no idea how to help my cat, whose symptoms had worsened. He suggested I do research online. You're the expert and you're telling me to use Google? No way.I was about to switch back to my old vet when my cat developed a urinary blockage. I called KMVC, got an emergency appointment on a Saturday within two hours (which I was charged extra for, but whatever), saw Dr. Sorrells and my opinion of the place turned around. He is the best vet I've ever seen. He was kind when he saw I was freaking out because my perfect kitty was feeling less than perfect, hooked up to tubes and in pain. He explained everything in doctor terms, and then in laymen's terms. He helped us find a vet (Animal Specialty Hospital) that could care for him overnight, then called every other day to check up on him. When we saw him at our follow-up, he gave me several options for food that he researched because my cat refuses to eat wet food and, again, was kind and patient. For my experience with Dr. Sorrells alone, I will be a patient here. But I will never see another vet here, based on my experience with Dr. Barre. The front desk staff, I think, is fine. I've never had an issue scheduling or with payments, but I'm also a bit pushy and if I need an appointment, I say so. The vet techs are always courteous and, while not as knowledgeable as other places I've been to, they never hesitate to ask the doctors questions. The prices are a little higher than other places in town (like Kensington) but for Dr. Sorrells, I don't mind. Read Less

Yesterday was our first visit. I have a senior dog. Dr. Emily Clore came in and sat down on the floor to talk to Chewy. She took her time, answered all my questions, get the right test, and didn't make me feel pressured. Understands I'm on a tight budget and still give me suggestions on what I can do and what she would prefer me to do when I have the money. I was very impressed with her knowledge and the attention to my boy. The staff up front were really nice too. Through yelp I got a free exam and free nail clipping. Even so, my bill was over $200 because of the blood tests and aspirations that we needed to do. I don't think it was overly expensive, but vet care in general has gotten very expensive. Then again, inflation is everywhere. Read Less

I called my current vets office- NOT kmvh- this morning and told them my dog was real sick and asked for an appointment as soon as possible. The earliest they could see her was at 4:00 pm. I did not want to wait all day watching my dog coughing and throwing up so I called my mom and got the number of her vet (kmvh) They could see her at 9;30 and I could drop her off earlier to be triaged. So I dropped her off and Dr. Klouse called me a couple hours later and told me about what was wrong and what medicine she should take and advice about activity. When my husband picked her up we were prepared for a bill for hundreds of dollars - instead it was less than a hundred bucks! The office staff could not be any nicer. My dog has been home for hours resting instead of waiting to be seen at my old vets office. They just earned a new client at kearny mesa vet hospital. Read Less

I never really write a review unless I feel the business/individual deserves it and I definitely had to write one about Dr. Barre and his staff after our first visit with them today . Sometimes going into a new vet clinic is like buying a new car you never know what they'll find wrong with your pet or try to convince you to buy! I've been in the medical field for 16 years now (on the human side!) and as you expect your doctor or nurse to have bedside manners I would want the same for. The veterinarian treating my dog. Dr. Barre and his tech greeted me and then sat on the floor with my dog who was obviously miserable and uncomfortable and stayed there the whole time talking to me while petting him trying to make him more comfortable! I could tell that they truly love helping and caring for animals. I was instantly put at ease. My dog has been suffering from allergies which turned into a uncontrollable infection and Dr. Barre came up with a treatment plan which included a steroid injection, antibiotics, steroids, and an anti-fungal medication for him to take. First exam is complimentary AND they offer a military discount. I was dreading what my bill would be with all the meds but it came out to $78! THE lowest vet bill yet! Didn't try to upsell anything or say I needed to do a range of tests my dog doesn't need. Professional, compassionate and excellent customer service what more could you ask for?!!! Thank you for taking care of Kekai and answering all of my questions. I'm glad I can rest assure I found a quality place to take care of him!Read Less
