We've only taken our little guy to the RBPH a few times for medical-related visits - dental work which required anesthesia and several booster shots - but we take him to be bathed and groomed every few weeks. No matter the reason for the visit, the staff is always welcoming and professional. Though more than ready to be picked up, he's always in good spirits and is happy and healthy. The prices may be a little higher than you would pay if you shopped around, but the service you'll get and the treatment your pet will receive is always top notch at the RBPH. Read Less

STELLAR!!! *********** WOW FANTASTIC THANK YOU SO MUCH! Dr Sondhi and his staff are absolutely wonderful. In my whole life with pets, I've never had a vet see your pet his #1 patient! He'll sit on the floor with them, educate us, make a plan of action and implement asap! My sweet 12 yr old akita Nikita had a urinary tract infection and the holistic vet did not see that. Dr Sondhi right away walked Nikita outside to see and he instantly knew she had arthritis. So we are helping her with that now. Dr. Sondhi did the lab work and the next morning I got her meds for her infection. Nikita RIGHT AWAY looked and felt better! It smells and looks so great there -- feels like a spa. They even have the patient doors mirrored on one side so they can see themselves when they come in and they can look out when they are in the room. IT'S INGENIUS! I "followed" Dr. Sondhi from a previous veterinary clinic, because I was so impressed with his medical skills as well as how he interacts with me and my dogs. One dog, in particular, is "stranger anxious" and Dr. Sondhi knew just how to approach her so that she relaxed for her visit. My other dog suffers from a complex immune-mediated disorder and his confidence and knowledge in how to deal with it has put me tremendously at ease. I went in for the exam appointment for my two kittens. I was an hour early because I live in the Mission Valley area and I didn't know how traffic was going to be. They were able to take me early after the paper work was filled out which is great! The office is very clean and the staff is very friendly and informative. The assistant/nurse took me and my kittens into the room and took their weight. She also wrote down any concerns I had or symptoms my kittens had. One was sneezing a lot, so I made sure to let them know. Doctor Sohndi came in a few minutes later to examine my kittens and he checked everything for them. I wasn't able to get the neutering done that day because my kitten wasn't feeling well and the Doctor wants to make sure he's well prior to the surgery date. He told me exactly how to use the medicine and so did the manager when I was checking out. He also gave me a printout of the process and verbally told me the process of how everything will go for both of my kittens surgeries in two weeks. Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital has been a real pleasant surprise for me. I raise show pigeons and when I asked if they would be willing to see them and provide a health certificate, they didn't hesitate to help me. They even enjoyed looking at my birds! I flew to NC and brought him back to San Diego (where we are currently stationed) but whoever he had been with for those 7 years was not taking care of him whatsoever and I found out that he needed serious dental work done. Dogs are suppose to have 42 teeth, when I brought my dog back from NC he only had 20 (his teeth had rotted, and were literally falling out of his mouth.) I brought him to the Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital and as soon as I walked through the door we were swept in by loving arms. Every single one of the staff members at this facility care deeply about the health and happiness of each animal who walks through their doors. They have been nothing but kind to our family and my dog Bemis has quickly fallen in love with their manager Rebecca, he stops his shaking and whining as soon as he sees her! Our sweet boy only has 2 teeth now, but the work they did to make Bemis feel better surpassed my expectations and now we have a healthy and happy dog yet again. This is a wonderful hospital! The staff are super friendly and caring! Dr. Hornstein has provided the best medical care for my cat. She's brought Cleocatra back to life more than once now. She's been in for treatment with anemia and I've had to board her there while on vacation and had no doubt she was in good hands.The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was due the the lack of privacy in the exam rooms. One of my first visits was a somber one as I watched a pet parent and his dog say their goodbyes. I realize it's part of life, but I'd want a shade over the window.That said, I highly recommend Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital to all I can. Read Less

We found this amazing place by chance. We have a dog who has major anxiety issues when it comes to getting groomed. We have gone through numerous groomers with nobody being able to successfully groom her until we came here. The staff is truly warm and caring. They do a great job and I can't recommend them enough. The reason why I came to the vet with one of my three cats was tapeworms. I'd only seen them in the oldest cat I brought in, and I mostly wanted to confirm that I was correct about it. The doctor however simply seemed to want to milk every thing she could from my visit. First off, she basically said, your cat is over weight, I'm sending you home with this prescription trial of food you can only get here. Okay? She gained weight this year after I stopped walking her, and with three cats and a rotating work schedule I can't simply put them on a routine feed. I didn't care to explain that though, she really emphasized that she needed to eat this food. Second off, she asked me my preference of flea prevention, and didn't care to give me what I asked for. I told the nurses that I wanted to check the pricing of different kinds, and did not receive any quotes. I was told of two kinds, and guilted me by saying that my cats didnt have flea medication purchased in my last visit. Ok? I lived in the north, we had flea seasons. And I didnt buy flea medication from my vet because I found my prefered brand cheaper elsewhere. But somehow, she took , "give me the liquid form," from, "pill for would be nice, two of my cats take pills easily, just not this one." But of course she gave me the medication she preferred. And I didn't even realize it until I got home, my boyfriend had paid while I was calming my cat. I even asked him, "why did we get the liquid flea stuff? Didn't I say I'd prefer the pill?" And he also was a bit bewildered by it, but he's never owned cats, he had no idea what he was getting. He just trusted that we got what we wanted. But the office was closed, we couldn't do anything about it. So, reluctantly, I used the liquid form. And not surprisingly, two of my acrobatic cats started to lick it off, even though I applied precisely where the instructions indicated. They continued to try and lick it off of them even after making makeshift cones of shame. Even tried licking it off each other. What I hoped would be a few hours of monitoring, turned into a night of worry, constant observation, and sleeping shifts for the two of us. That being said, lastly, the medication didn't even work for my cats. We flea bombed the apartment from room to room. I spent hours combing through fur, since flea baths were out of the question since I was concerned that it'd wash the flea prevention away. And for all of that? A flea happily popped up underneath my youngest's eye just a day ago. Went to another vet with the fecal kit using the sample I collect from the youngest and middle, who I also found with worms. My old vet recommended using a feed store tapeworm remover and to research brands before picking any old kind, turns out, it worked just as well as the oldest cat's treatment, for much cheaper than I paid at Rancho Bernardo. All and all, this experience has caused more frustration than what it was actually worth. But good news! They sent me a coupon for my friend to get 20% off! Yeah, no thanks. I've got to retreat my animals for fleas before the poor things get tapeworms again. Read Less

I had taken my dog for checkup on his urination issue. The doctor (Dr Relief Vet?? as it says in the documents provided) said she will have a urine lab analysis done for any bacterial infection, might have stones in his bladder and "may" need an x-ray/surgery. My dog was taken inside for a check up, and after some time the doctor came back saying that he has stone blockage in his penis and will definitely need an x-ray and further surgery. We requested if we could wait for urine analysis to rule out any bacterial infection before getting into x-ray/surgery. Surprisingly the doctor was adamant that he definitely had a stone/blockage and needs immediate x-ray/surgery. Scary part was we were given all kinds of emergency procedures needed to be carried out and other hospital names where surgery may be carried out. We insisted we will wait for the lab results first and left the office after paying for the lab tests & other fees. The following day we were called and informed that the urine analysis came "negative" for bacterial infection and we were asked to immediately bring him for x-ray. We decided to get a second opinion and took him to another Vet that same afternoon. After checking him the doctor said, because my dog was so young (1 year old), UTI and stones are normally ruled out. He said young dogs often have such urination issues and typically gets all-right on its own over a period of time. NO LAB TESTS, NO X-RAYS, NO MENTION OF SURGERIES. He said let's wait for a couple of weeks and if the problem persists, we could do lab tests at that time and go further from there. NOW after 3 weeks, my dog is up and running just as before with no issues. The problem took care of itself and there was no need to do anything. What does the whole episode point to, I wonder. Was Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital trying to extract money from us for no rhyme or reason?? Was the doctor not qualified to make an informed decision?? WHY was the doctor so adamant to have x-rays done so quickly?? Why was the doctor pushing us to get surgery done?? Just imagine what the poor dog would have had to go thru if we had gone with her advise. I AM DEFINITELY VERY DISAPPOINTED and perhaps will never go there again. Read Less

Our family dog had never really gone to a veterinarian until this year when he began having health issues. He is a chihuahua terrier mix that is now 16 years old. Earlier this year we took him to a vet in Carmel Mountain Ranch, and the staff there was rude, judgmental, and didn't really offer the care and treatment we needed for our dog.So it was very refreshing to come here to the Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital. First, they were accommodating. I was able to schedule appointment the same day I brought my dog in. Second, they did not make us feel bad by judging us as owners. Their number one priority was our dog, and in making sure he got the care he needed to improve his health. Dr. Horenstein and the entire staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and I am comfortable with having then take care of my dog. And they don't push any services on you. They give you a list of services they recommend, they break down the prices so you know what you will pay for, but they leave the decision to you if you choose to get it done for your dog. I can tell that they understand that pet care services can get expensive, so I appreciated the openness and lack of pressure.When we brought our dog in, he had an ear infection, skin irritation and some balding, and other internal issues. Now, a month later after bringing him in, he's like a new pup again.I highly recommend this vet. Read Less

RB Pet Hospital to the rescue!  A stranger found my lost dog and dropped them off at the RB Pet Hospital. My dog didn't have a collar so they scanned for a micro chip (which my dog had).  Through the micro chip records I was thankfully contacted and reunited with my "best friend".  I was expecting a traumatized dog and a hefty bill. I was pleasantly surprised to find my dog relaxed, feed, and having a great time with the friendly and warm staff. Everyone was so responsive and well prepared.  They even extended their hours to make sure I could pick up my dog and avoid an overnight stay.  And no fees were charged for taking care of my furry son :) Wow!  Service like that is hard to find. I had high hopes for this place with their amazing reviews and great prices(offering military discount too).. but I have no idea why this vet got so many good reviews.We brought our kitten in to have his ears looked at for possible ear mites.. they took a sample and took the kitten into the back.. the vet tech come back with a quote for the services charging $38 to look at the ear sample under a microscope. She asked if it was ok? like what? do I have a choice? you already performed the test. Then they charge $100 for the medication that is not even at their office but near Balboa!! This medication is also being offered online for $40 other places.... thankfully they price matched after calling to ask. They kept adding services to the quote that they thought should be done!! and then started pushing pet insurance on us! Bad vibes from this place all around. Read Less

My small dog Ozzie came in with an infected dogbite. He was in so much pain and could hardly walk. Alisha was at reception and was courteous, detail-minded  and informative and set me at ease during this stressful time as I waited for Ozzie to be seen by the vet. After a brief wait, Rebecca took Ozzie in for an initial review and temperature. She was thorough and knowledgeable. Very customer friendly. Dr. Stephens was so calm and gave me a complete explanation about the infection and what she needed to do to attack it. I felt completely comfortable with her and her entire staff. Ozzie underwent surgery that same day and is recovering well because of all the great advise and aftercare instructions they gave me. I would highly recommend them! Ozzie will have his checkup in a couple days and I am hoping his recovery continues. Thanks to everyone at RB animal hospital for their love of animals and expert skill and advise. I recently brought my dog here to see what the options were for her cherry eye. I've seen a few other vets but what made me stay was Dr. Stephen's specialize technique and her hospitality. While other vets took less than 5 minutes with us to say yes, she needs surgery, Dr. Stephens patiently explained what she does in surgery, what the after effects will be, and her success rate, as well as answer all the questions I had. It was more costly than other places I've been to, but no one else used her technique which eliminates any chance of reoccurrence while still saving her tear production glad. My dog went through surgery like a champ and Dr. Stephens herself called a few times aftewards to check up on my dog. Friendly & accommodating staff, clean office, and great vet; can't go wrong! So far so good! I had read all of the great reviews for this place when I was trying to choose a vet for my kitty. I was looking forward to working with Dr. Stephens after all of the positive feedback from other pet owners, but when there was an emergency with another animal, our kitty was seen by the back-up vet, Dr. Hackman. She was very nice, and spent time with us to answer all of our questions. They were reasonable about what our kitty really needed, instead of being pushed to buy a lot of extra things. The vet tech was also nice, welcoming, and obviously loved animals. I feel confident that if something happens to our little one, then he will be in good hands here. Read Less

I was very pleased with all the staff here! I brought my older cat in for a routine check-up, and I felt very comfortable. The doc spent a lot of time talking to me about caring for older cats. Dr. Stephens and the staff at Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital saved the life of my baby boy Floyd. He is a 15 year old cat and myself and my 13 year old daughter and 9 year old son just love him to pieces. Dr. Stephens took the time to help me and my fiancee determine the most important tests with the super limited budget I had; and she found the cause of his infirmity. She also provided us with very informed options on how to treat Floyd. All the office staff was AMAZING, Alex, Sylvia and Rebecca were SUPER HELPFUL . I am just truly grateful that they helped me save my baby (not so baby....geriatric boy).
