In many ways, I am impressed with Scripps Parkway Veterinary Hospital.
Over Memorial Day weekend 2015, my 2.5 year-old Basenji went to a specialty animal hospital (not SPVH) after my family saw blood in his urine. The hospital said my pup had stones. My family used SPVH as their primary vet, so I decided to give them a try.
When I first walked into SPVH, I was surprised by how clean the office was--this is something I never saw back home (Houston, TX). The people behind the front desk were extremely helpful, and I had an appointment with Dr. Carhart the same day. We discussed the options for my pup, and, shortly afterwards, my pup went in to surgery to remove the stones from his bladder and urethra. I never felt that Dr. Carhart was pressed for time when answering my questions at the in-person visits (initial visit and pre-operative visit).
The operation went (almost) perfectly. Dr. Carhart's skill as a surgeon is evidenced clearly by my pup having almost no visible scarring. Also, the price was affordable for the procedure my pup underwent--50% below the price quoted by the animal hospital I took my pup to over the Memorial Day weekend.
Where SPVH shines, in my opinion, is the post-operative care and support they provide to clients. Dr. Carhart has spent (and continues to spend) what I imagine is a lot of time communicating with me about my pup's condition and answers all of my questions promptly. We communicate primarily through e-mail, and his e-mail are extremely thorough. I never expected this level of continuing support without additional, costly vet visit.
So, if you are looking for a place at which you can get high-quality care and vets will invest their time into your pup, I would consider looking at SPVH and asking for Dr. Carhart.Read Less
