Always a very friendly and caring attitude by Dr. Schexneider and all staff members. Right now I am on a walker after back surgery, and yesterday two staff members went out of their way to help me get my cat carrier back into my car. I have been a client of Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years and plan to keep going there as long as I own any pets. I highly recommend any pet owner in the San Diego area to go there for veterinary care of their pet(s).

My pet and I truly appreciate the staff and the high level of professional care they provide at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital.
The proof is based on my little dog's joy whenever we visit them; she wags her tail and eagerly enters the waiting room. Once time permits, the staff not only check us in expeditiously, they do so with love and hugs!!!, ...exactly the type of treatment that keeps us coming back.
In addition to all of this, Dr. S. is a top notch vet! Her knowledge, gentleness and professional are beyond compare.
For example, Dr S. emphasizes dental care as a root of health but does not over sell her services. She also offers, in addition to the standard vaccines, rattlesnake vaccine which is a plus for us, living in Tierrasanta where we have many rattlesnakes.
I could cite other services, but I leave that up to you for further exploration...

This is definitely a family environment for you and your pets. I had an appointment somewhere else for my pet, but when I accidentally called this vet instead, the person was super nice and warm and they were Happy to see us too. Their rates were so much better for new client and doing kind of a small but could be potentially serious issue for my pet.
If you want a small town friendly, caring treatment, I totally recommend giving them a chance.

We were having some separation anxiety with our dog after moving cross country, and I was able to get a Saturday appointment, which was great. I saw older reviews about Dr. Luke on here and it made me nervous. However I can guarantee you that this doctor no longer works here as the new vet, Dr. S bought the practice in July 2016. She is great and we felt very optimistic after our visit. They even have choices for them to keep our dog during the day that definitely beats the prices of other doggy day care places.

Dr. Schexneider is wonderful - she's been taking care of our dog his whole life and we'll never use another vet. The hospital itself is calm and inviting and the staff go to great lengths to make sure my dog and I are comfortable and at ease. It's really a great place with a great atmosphere, they always take the time to explain everything, I never feel pressured to do procedures that make me uncomfortable and yet I also trust their recommendations and know my dog is getting the best care. I feel incredibly lucky to have Dr. Schexneider in our lives.

The staff is amazing and incredibly friendly! They truly love animals. I called to check if I needed to come in for a check up after explaining how well my pup was doing from a minor infection from a serious flea problem. I spent $1000 on our first visit to get rid of the fleas on both of my dogs as well as a steroid and shampoo for one because her scratching was causing her discomfort . They said yes to bring her in for the scheduled check up just to make sure she wasn't scratching still (even after I was expressing her well being and that my husband and I are financially strained) we are on a military salary and can afford $1000 let alone a quote she gave me for dental cleaning and a tear duct cleaning. Before coming in for the check up I asked how much it would cost (because we are on a budget) they said $40 or so. The Vet (not techs they are amazing! ) managed to rack up another $79 in random meds and basically cosmectic treatments. I will not be back because of this money hungry fact ! If you have the cash the staff is great but be prepared to keep paying up!

Dr Luke and her staff take excellent care of my furbaby! From the time you walk in, you feel like family. Dr. Luke recommends only what is needed to keep your loved one healthy. I have never felt pressured to buy something, In fact she is always upfront with costs. You're given a treatment plan with a itemized quote. When my baby was getting her spay surgery, I was given a beeper and kept up to date. I even got calls from both Dr Luke and staff checking on us after Holly's surgery. We love this family vet care. You don't find many places who treat the whole family so well. I highly recommend Dr Luke and this staff.

I took my dog to Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital (the one near Haagan.) During my visit I was left waiting for over 2.5 hours. I strongly felt that Dr. Luke was making sales on me, and not considering treating my dog, but adding additional unnecessary costs to my bill. She even pressured me by saying I would have to sign a form stating that I was "going against doctors orders" (a form which they never brought) and the worst part was when I got home I found that they didn't include two of the medications I had paid for. I called the next day to ask for the medications at which time I was told that since I left, the price of the medication had gone up and to receive the medicines (that I already had a receipt for) i would have to pay an additional $88 dollars for it. After four days, 7-8 phone calls, and arguing I finally got the medication. Worst customer service experience I have ever had. Not to mention the office was filthy. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM TAKING THEIR PETS HERE.

We have had two experiences so far and both have been excellent. After having our 2 year old husky only about a month, she stopped eating, totally, for about 2 1/2 days. We were very worried. The doctor discovered that she was full of gas. She gave her something for the gas and, at our request, ran a full series of tests to rule out anything serious. Once the gas was gone, our baby started eating right away at the vet's and continued on with some special food. Everything turned out fine.
A few weeks later, she got stung by a bee and, since she was very new to us, we didn't know what her reaction might be. The doctor wasn't there at the time, but the tech helped us enormously, getting on the phone with the doctor and discussing what happened and what was going on. It turned out to be fine but it was wonderful having a place to go where we were welcomed as the most important people and dog in the world.

I was referred by county for low cost spay for my dog. I liked that they gave me options that were not part of the discount spay program, and I got to pick what I wanted. the tech talked a little too fast but everything was written out. I liked the follow up phone call the next day just to see how my dog was doing. I paid a little more than the discount spay program price, but I chose to add on from the choices she gave me. Dr. Luke was great. Staff, slow down when you talk, please.

I have been taking my dog to TSV for three years and they are wonderful. They know me and my dog Gus by name and they always take the time to explain prices and care. The people giving bad reviews were not paying attention when things were being explained. Having a pet is expensive, and taking good care of your pet is part of being a good owner.

They did a great job with my aggressive dog - she let them treat her without even a growl, even getting her sore paw examined and getting her shots, which she normally needs a muzzle for. My dog was a shelter rescue and usually doesn't let other people touch her, but she warmed right up to them. Friendly people, knew what they were doing, and my dog could tell they cared about her. I'd go back!

I adopted a stray kitten and took it in to Dr. Luke. She and her staff made sure I understood everything I would need to know to care for my new pet. They let me know I wouldn't have to vaccinate my cat every year that I could do a simple blood test to see if it needed vaccines after its kitten series was done. They tested him for Leukemia so I wouldn't find out after I fell in love with him that he was already infected with a disease that is incurable. They neutered him. They placed a microchip so that he could be found if he ever got outside even though I will be keeping him indoors. Turns out he does try to sneak by when I go through a door. I'm delighted with the service and care they gave to my new kitten.

Did you give a written list of things you wanted to be done by the vet? If that was done, I'm sure they would have followed what you wanted and called you if they found something different. I don't have any problems with this vet and I know they present an estimate for services. Did your friend know what you wanted the hospital to do? Did your friend tell anyone how much was authorized to spend? How can you blame a hospital for doing their job? If you did have a list of things you wanted and gave them to the hospital in writing then yes, I think it warrants some discussion. I know that after an exam sometimes what I want vs what is wrong with my pet don't always match. I went in for a neuter and they found that my dog didn't have two of what they needed to neuter him and the surgery to find the other one cost more than a routine neuter. They presented me with an estimate which included pre-surgical bloodwork and a microchip as I didn't think of that and they educated me on the reason why people should microchip their pets and have pre-surgical bloodwork. It turned out that my pet has a problem with its liver and they needed to do their anesthetic differently because the other way could have given my pet some difficulty. I don't know the medical terms but I was shown the bloodwork and saw the high values so I'm glad that I took their advice and had these procedures done. I don't have DVM after my name and I have to trust that the Doctor is doing what is in the best interest of my pet. I love the service that I received at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital and would recommend them to anyone.

When I was looking for a vet and I went to many. No other Vet but Dr. Luke did a full exam on my pets. Dr. Luke and staff educated me on what I could do better to help keep my pets healthy and happy. #1 and foremost that they stressed is taking care of my pets teeth. They have many products that help me to keep my pets mouth clean and healthy. Dr. Luke always talks in terms that I can understand and even draws pictures to help me understand. I think that she is a great vet and I love the staff too. Very caring and fun. I would recommend Dr. Luke and her staff to anyone that is serious about the Vet care for their pet.

I just love Tierrasanta Vet Hospital. When I have my appointment Dr. Luke always does a complete exam. She checks the ears, eyes, heart, teeth, etc. It actually saves me money in the end because she catches problems before they become huge expensive problems. As for the cost of care? It's in line with other vet offices in the area. Pets are a part of my family and I carry insurace on them to help defray the cost of care. They even file my insurance claims for me so that I can get the most from my insurance. My pets love it at Tierrasanta and I love the staff and couldn't even begin to think of going anywhere else.

We have had problems boarding our pets here. Everytime we've boarded out pets here, we received a call mid-way through the boarding to say that there is some problem that requires medical attention. And of course, that ends up requiring an extra $400-$1000 to remedy. It is a small boarding facility but somehow, toys, blankets, etc. end up lost and never seen again. For boarding, I would recommend somewhere like Dogs in the City or The Animal Keeper.

My pet and I truly appreciate the staff and the high level of professional care they provide at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital.
The proof is based on my little dog's joy whenever we visit them; she wags her tail and eagerly enters the waiting room. Once time permits, the staff not only check us in expeditiously, they do so with love and hugs!!!, ...exactly the type of treatment that keeps us coming back.
In addition to all of this, Dr. S. is a top notch vet! Her knowledge, gentleness and professional are beyond compare.
For example, Dr S. emphasizes dental care as a root of health but does not over sell her services. She also offers, in addition to the standard vaccines, rattlesnake vaccine which is a plus for us, living in Tierrasanta where we have many rattlesnakes.
I could cite other services, but I leave that up to you for further exploration...

This is definitely a family environment for you and your pets. I had an appointment somewhere else for my pet, but when I accidentally called this vet instead, the person was super nice and warm and they were Happy to see us too. Their rates were so much better for new client and doing kind of a small but could be potentially serious issue for my pet.
If you want a small town friendly, caring treatment, I totally recommend giving them a chance.

We were having some separation anxiety with our dog after moving cross country, and I was able to get a Saturday appointment, which was great. I saw older reviews about Dr. Luke on here and it made me nervous. However I can guarantee you that this doctor no longer works here as the new vet, Dr. S bought the practice in July 2016. She is great and we felt very optimistic after our visit. They even have choices for them to keep our dog during the day that definitely beats the prices of other doggy day care places.

Dr. Schexneider is wonderful - she's been taking care of our dog his whole life and we'll never use another vet. The hospital itself is calm and inviting and the staff go to great lengths to make sure my dog and I are comfortable and at ease. It's really a great place with a great atmosphere, they always take the time to explain everything, I never feel pressured to do procedures that make me uncomfortable and yet I also trust their recommendations and know my dog is getting the best care. I feel incredibly lucky to have Dr. Schexneider in our lives.

The staff is amazing and incredibly friendly! They truly love animals. I called to check if I needed to come in for a check up after explaining how well my pup was doing from a minor infection from a serious flea problem. I spent $1000 on our first visit to get rid of the fleas on both of my dogs as well as a steroid and shampoo for one because her scratching was causing her discomfort . They said yes to bring her in for the scheduled check up just to make sure she wasn't scratching still (even after I was expressing her well being and that my husband and I are financially strained) we are on a military salary and can afford $1000 let alone a quote she gave me for dental cleaning and a tear duct cleaning. Before coming in for the check up I asked how much it would cost (because we are on a budget) they said $40 or so. The Vet (not techs they are amazing! ) managed to rack up another $79 in random meds and basically cosmectic treatments. I will not be back because of this money hungry fact ! If you have the cash the staff is great but be prepared to keep paying up!

Dr Luke and her staff take excellent care of my furbaby! From the time you walk in, you feel like family. Dr. Luke recommends only what is needed to keep your loved one healthy. I have never felt pressured to buy something, In fact she is always upfront with costs. You're given a treatment plan with a itemized quote. When my baby was getting her spay surgery, I was given a beeper and kept up to date. I even got calls from both Dr Luke and staff checking on us after Holly's surgery. We love this family vet care. You don't find many places who treat the whole family so well. I highly recommend Dr Luke and this staff.

I took my dog to Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital (the one near Haagan.) During my visit I was left waiting for over 2.5 hours. I strongly felt that Dr. Luke was making sales on me, and not considering treating my dog, but adding additional unnecessary costs to my bill. She even pressured me by saying I would have to sign a form stating that I was "going against doctors orders" (a form which they never brought) and the worst part was when I got home I found that they didn't include two of the medications I had paid for. I called the next day to ask for the medications at which time I was told that since I left, the price of the medication had gone up and to receive the medicines (that I already had a receipt for) i would have to pay an additional $88 dollars for it. After four days, 7-8 phone calls, and arguing I finally got the medication. Worst customer service experience I have ever had. Not to mention the office was filthy. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM TAKING THEIR PETS HERE.

We have had two experiences so far and both have been excellent. After having our 2 year old husky only about a month, she stopped eating, totally, for about 2 1/2 days. We were very worried. The doctor discovered that she was full of gas. She gave her something for the gas and, at our request, ran a full series of tests to rule out anything serious. Once the gas was gone, our baby started eating right away at the vet's and continued on with some special food. Everything turned out fine.
A few weeks later, she got stung by a bee and, since she was very new to us, we didn't know what her reaction might be. The doctor wasn't there at the time, but the tech helped us enormously, getting on the phone with the doctor and discussing what happened and what was going on. It turned out to be fine but it was wonderful having a place to go where we were welcomed as the most important people and dog in the world.

I liked that they gave me options that were not part of the discount spay program, and I got to pick what I wanted. the tech talked a little too fast but everything was written out. I liked the follow up phone call the next day just to see how my dog was doing. I paid a little more than the discount spay program price, but I chose to add on from the choices she gave me. Dr. Luke was great. Staff, slow down when you talk, please.

I have been taking my dog to TSV for three years and they are wonderful. They know me and my dog Gus by name and they always take the time to explain prices and care. The people giving bad reviews were not paying attention when things were being explained. Having a pet is expensive, and taking good care of your pet is part of being a good owner.

My dog was a shelter rescue and usually doesn't let other people touch her, but she warmed right up to them. Friendly people, knew what they were doing, and my dog could tell they cared about her. I'd go back!

I adopted a stray kitten and took it in to Dr. Luke. She and her staff made sure I understood everything I would need to know to care for my new pet. They let me know I wouldn't have to vaccinate my cat every year that I could do a simple blood test to see if it needed vaccines after its kitten series was done. They tested him for Leukemia so I wouldn't find out after I fell in love with him that he was already infected with a disease that is incurable. They neutered him. They placed a microchip so that he could be found if he ever got outside even though I will be keeping him indoors. Turns out he does try to sneak by when I go through a door. I'm delighted with the service and care they gave to my new kitten.

I don't have any problems with this vet and I know they present an estimate for services. Did your friend know what you wanted the hospital to do? Did your friend tell anyone how much was authorized to spend? How can you blame a hospital for doing their job? If you did have a list of things you wanted and gave them to the hospital in writing then yes, I think it warrants some discussion. I know that after an exam sometimes what I want vs what is wrong with my pet don't always match. I went in for a neuter and they found that my dog didn't have two of what they needed to neuter him and the surgery to find the other one cost more than a routine neuter. They presented me with an estimate which included pre-surgical bloodwork and a microchip as I didn't think of that and they educated me on the reason why people should microchip their pets and have pre-surgical bloodwork. It turned out that my pet has a problem with its liver and they needed to do their anesthetic differently because the other way could have given my pet some difficulty. I don't know the medical terms but I was shown the bloodwork and saw the high values so I'm glad that I took their advice and had these procedures done. I don't have DVM after my name and I have to trust that the Doctor is doing what is in the best interest of my pet. I love the service that I received at Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital and would recommend them to anyone.

When I was looking for a vet and I went to many. No other Vet but Dr. Luke did a full exam on my pets. Dr. Luke and staff educated me on what I could do better to help keep my pets healthy and happy. #1 and foremost that they stressed is taking care of my pets teeth. They have many products that help me to keep my pets mouth clean and healthy. Dr. Luke always talks in terms that I can understand and even draws pictures to help me understand. I think that she is a great vet and I love the staff too. Very caring and fun. I would recommend Dr. Luke and her staff to anyone that is serious about the Vet care for their pet.

I just love Tierrasanta Vet Hospital. When I have my appointment Dr. Luke always does a complete exam. She checks the ears, eyes, heart, teeth, etc. It actually saves me money in the end because she catches problems before they become huge expensive problems. As for the cost of care? It's in line with other vet offices in the area. Pets are a part of my family and I carry insurace on them to help defray the cost of care. They even file my insurance claims for me so that I can get the most from my insurance. My pets love it at Tierrasanta and I love the staff and couldn't even begin to think of going anywhere else.

We have had problems boarding our pets here. Everytime we've boarded out pets here, we received a call mid-way through the boarding to say that there is some problem that requires medical attention. And of course, that ends up requiring an extra $400-$1000 to remedy. It is a small boarding facility but somehow, toys, blankets, etc. end up lost and never seen again. For boarding, I would recommend somewhere like Dogs in the City or The Animal Keeper.
