Staff was friendly, but that is really the only good thing I have to say. I waited to post this review because I had to return today for a booster shot, but on August 1, 2017, knowing that I am on a college student budget, Dr. Gilbert convinced me that my dog needed extra supplements (which are not FDA approved) for her hips and knees without disclosing the cost. They ended up being ridiculously expensive. I sent an email to air my concern Upon researching the products at home, I realized not only that one is not even made for hips and joints (but for skin and fur), but additionally, the vet had charged a 70% markup from the retail cost of the products. In a phone conversation, the vet simply said she had no control over the price and that I was free to purchase the supplements elsewhere in the future. At this point, while taking these supplements (which cost me well over $100), my dog has shown no significant improvement. On the same visit, the vet tried to push the need for my dog to have dental work done (my dog has stubs for teeth, and has for the past couple of years) insisting that a root canal may be the best option for her well being...out of pocket, that would cost well over $2000 (did I mention I am clearly a broke college student?) At the end of my first appointment, I scheduled my follow up for the booster. First, I was given the wrong timeframe for when the shot should be given, and had to reschedule my appointment accordingly. The day before my scheduled appointment, I recieved a call to confirm my appointment, but they had me put down for 2 hours earlier than the time I scheduled weeks in advance. Due to conflict, I had to move to a later time. When I came in for an appointment that should have taken all of 15 minutes, I sat in the waiting room for about a half our until everyone else had left and they finally realized that after check-in, no one came to take my dog back for her pre-scheduled booster shot... I can say with certainty that I will not be returning. They are very disorganized, and I can no longer trust that their suggestions are for my dogs well being, but rather for their own profit. I live within walking distance, but I would rather travel on public transportation with my dog to a different vet than deal with their shenanigans again. Read Less

I am so disappointed with this facility. We have taken our dog here for 3-4 check ups since moving to SF a year ago (so they have some records on file at this point). I called to make an appointment, as his bordetella vaccine had expired. When we come in, they list off a bunch of other things that they recommend, and we agree, seeing how we just want what's best for our dog. Well, not only did they not give him the one thing we needed (bordetella vaccine), but he ended up having an adverse reaction to one of the other vaccines that was administered (leptospirosis). Now, I understand that adverse reactions are beyond anyone vet's control, but the kicker is that they failed to provide the one thing we ask for, and this has always been something I've noticed at All Pets. 3 of the 4 times we have gone, the first thing they've mentioned is scheduling a teeth cleaning. Why don't you address our main complaint and upsell us at the end?We ended up having to take our dog to the emergency vet at SPCA, as we he was dehydrated from vomiting for over 24 hours (would not eat or drink either). Vet there tells us smaller dogs are prone to this reaction to lepto vaccine and wouldn't recommend it, especially if dog is mainly an indoor dog.So yeah, thanks for the vaccines...oh, and the records you have on file state that his bordetella had expired, so still fail to see the disconnect on your end. This was my first visit to All Pets Hospital, and I couldn't be more pleased with the team's professionalism, compassion and flexibility to help me with an ailing chicken.  My poor bird had finally crossed the line between quality of life and suffering and needed to be euthanized.  The front office staff was very kind and supportive and helped us connect with Dr. Herman immediately to give our bird relief from her suffering.  Dr. Herman was knowledgable, compassionate and communicative as we faced this difficult experience with our feathered friend who gently drifted off to sleep without distress.   It's good to know we have excellent care options for exotics right here in SF.  Thank you, All Pets team. Unfortunately, today had an uncharacteristically odd experience at All Pets after taking our rabbit here for the last 3 years. We had booked him for a nail trim and even though I had called them twice to confirm the time, we still waited 15 mins before we were seen after our appointment (I am sure it would have been longer had I not asked them twice and told them I had another appointment soon). They said they had some hospital patients (which I understand, but why hadn't they called me in advance to say to come a little later?).My rabbit was petrified in the waiting room with all the dogs during the wait. To top it off, the nail trim was only 5 mins but cost $31 (we took him in 6-9 months ago and it was $21..which is a 50% price increase!) Read Less

Caring, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Parking is a challenge with only 3 spaces so I usually Uber or Lyft. There are only a couple of treatment rooms so people get their final instructions in the waiting room, which can be loud and no privacy. They are not inexpensive, but on-par with San Francisco pricing. Good hours & availability. I have difficulty with their online booking system so usually call for appointments. My increased, prolonged absence from home caused me to overlook the skin issue that took place on the back of my Norwegian Dwarf bunny aka TOFU's neck. I came home late one night and found black patches of flakes embedded on his neck fur. Cleaned him up and immediately booked for All Pets Hospital the next day. Turned out to be a mild flea infestation..Tofu likely caught it when I accidentally locked him out on the patio that other night .. SORRY TOFU. My husband took Tofu in and had him cleaned up, dosed with Revolution, nail trimmed and examined. Within a day he's back to normal and binkying his over weight a$$ around as usual with clean, fluffy fur free of black flakes and fleas ! Definitely would recommend ALL PETS for your bunny and perhaps Tofu's younger brother - Madison - tabby cat for all future appointments ! Tofu says thank you!! Read Less

My bearded dragon Didymus and I were quickly shown a room and visited by a doctor. They had a heating pad for him which was a nice touch. We've been taking our rabbit here for checkups, illnesses, and grooming needs since 2007, so we've seen all three rabbit vets and received wonderful care from each doctor. Be warned that diagnostic and bloodwork tests are expensive, but, pets are a luxury. The doctors always returned our phone calls to answer our questions thoroughly - sometimes spending as long as 10 minutes, which is really helpful because making rabbits travel to the vet is extremely stressful for them. Our rabbit lived for a good 10 long years and unfortunately passed away at the vet office (unrecoverable stroke). The doctor was completely upfront and honest on the diagnosis. The entire office was helpful and sympathetic - they felt the loss, too. The staff was professional in letting us know the options and giving us as much time and privacy to say goodbye. Read Less

I used to be a long-time customer at All Pets, starting in the late 90s.  I made the switch from Dan Hershberger to Alex Herman is an excellent compassionate and caring professional, friendly and warm.  Her bedside manner is completely the opposite of her colleague who I always felt was condescending, dismissive and cold.  I was really disappointed when I had to bring my FIV+ kitty in for euthanasia and had to see Hersberger -- he had nothing kind or supportive to say to me in that situation.  In fact - he insisted on shaving her front leg to give the injection (which was probably not necessary since she was down from her usual 8lbs to about 3lbs).Nonetheless, I continued to bring my other kitty to see Alex -- she's awesome -- I even continued to bring him for annual checkups when I moved to the East Bay, stopping only when I sold my car and switched to a vet clinic two blocks from where I lived. I have continued to recommend Alex Herman to other people with pets. The staff have always been courteous, professional, friendly and super warm and engaged.  They seem to actually like working with animals.  Fast forward to 2015 -- my friend called me up at work, in tears:  his kitty just died before his eyes and he had no idea what to do.  I wrapped up my meeting and left work to head to his house to say my good byes to the kitty and to support my friend.  I called All Pets to ask about cremation services - and we went there.  The staff -- in the remodeled front office - were sweet, kind and compassionate about the whole situation.  Folks - it's important to remember that most vet clinics are pretty well staffed.  If you like the location, hours, prices and staff - don't hesitate to switch to another vet in house if you don't get along with the vet you are seeing. If you don't feel like your communication styles are aligning -- don't put yourself through that stress. Read Less

I awoke last Saturday to a desperately sick, almost 17-year old cat. I recognized what was going on immediately, her having crashed exactly like this ten months earlier.Severely dehydrated with diarrhea and vomiting, she was so weak and near death she was trying to hide in tight spaces in my apartment. She was readying to die. She even tried to jump into her carrier that I'd quickly tossed onto the floor from the closet to make a speedy exit to the vet.I hurriedly called my vet who was booked, another whom I'd seen once, same thing, all the while begging my little boy to get out of his pajamas and get dressed immediately.I scrolled through Yelp looking for vets with good ratings and called All Pets once I saw other friends gave them good marks and yes, they could see us in 45 minutes! All Pets immediately checked us in and within 15 minutes had her back in an exam room with the gentle Dr. Gillespie. After discussing treatment (blood draw, fluids) they recommended sending her home with special food for upset tummies (i/d), antibiotics (chicken flavored!) and an anti-nauseant on board. Blood work would be back by Monday afternoon. All the staff were very kind and efficient, the two qualities you need when you come in a little hysterical with a sick pet. Dr. Gillespie was so gentle with my old girl, Chloe, and recommended common sense treatment that also didn't break the bank. The majority of the $367 bill was $219 for blood work.As I suspected with her drinking a lot more water over the past month than she previously had, Chloe's in the beginning stages of kidney failure. Dr. Gillespie recommended k/d prescription food and fluids twice a week that they'll show me how to administer. My little cat leads a good life and is comfortable and content. I hope these simple maintenance treatments can keep her alive and happy for another year, maybe three. All I know for sure is she'll see her 17th birthday and Christmas 2015  - and maybe a couple more of those milestones thanks to the kind doctors and staff at All Pets Hospital. Read Less

This place is a racket - you come in for one thing and they charge for for 10 other things. I had to leave my cat the night because I work in the evenings and what started as a ridiculous $21.00 charge just to be there for the afternoon (if I could have come back to pick him up) ballooned to $60.00 because they added a unnecessary 'exam' fee for in the morning (28.00) and overnight stay (28.00). And $120.00 dollars for a 'just to check things out' bloodtest work-up? I would cost less for me to have mine done at Kaiser. This place charges you for every little thing -- another line item was 50.00 - 100.00 charge for misc food, medicine (not specified) and a E-Collar - so I spend $400.00 bucks and they cant give my cat a little food and water or even stay the night? what a scam - I'm never going back here.

If you have pet rats or exotics and are looking for a vet, I highly recommend Dr. Gilbert and this staff. We've had to bring our brood in several times for tumors, abscesses, overgrown teeth, and a rabbit with a neurological disorder; Dr. Gilbert knew her stuff and gave the prognosis to us straight. No run around with her . She and the staff were helpful, knowledgeable, caring and  compassionate with that dreaded decision a pet owner never wants to face. As long as she's in business she's my vet!  Reasonably priced and not difficult to get an appointment. Read Less

Dr. Herman has provided extra-caring service beyond the usual. Read Less

Read Less

I had a fabulous experience here this morning. The front staff was super nice and chatty and was very efficient checking us in. My bearded dragon Didymus and I were quickly shown a room and visited by a doctor. They had a heating pad for him which was a nice touch. My beardie was given a gentle and thorough exam and was ultimately prescribed some superfood to bring up his appetite. The initial exam price was given over the phone and all subsequent charges were discussed and agreed upon beforehand. Very professional. I couldn't recommend them more highly. Read Less

Read Less

My lizard went into kidney failure really fast. I didn't yet have a vet for him in CA, but All Pets had me bring him in right after I called them. Dr. Bar was very compassionate but didn't sugar coat his chances, so when he died later that night, I was at least somewhat prepared. This place is great. I took my previous dog and now current dog to All Pets. I have throughout my time there seen two of the doctors, but I recommend Dr. Herman. She is great with animals (She is often sitting on the floor with my dog) and really cares. Also I never feel as if I am being taken for extra medical expenses when I am there. I moved out of the city for 3 years and used 2 different vets, neither that I was happy with. I kept comparing them to Dr. Herman. I always felt like these other vets always wanted to add on more tests or X rays, for issues that never ended up being anything. I felt that these vets""guilted "" me into more expensive procedures.
