A few weeks ago, I brought my puppy to this clinic for suspected kennel cough, after being referred by Pets Unlimited. It was a Sunday, which is the only reason I was here instead of my regular vet. I could have waited, but on the off chance it was pneumonia or something else serious, I didn't want to take the risk.My first impression was that it triggered my claustrophobia. The lobby is small and faces 2 doors against a wall, which serve as the treatment offices. Not to be grim, but I kind of felt like one door was the red pill and the other was the blue pill, and I better hope to be directed into the right one. That said, the receptionist was kind and professional, the facilities were clean, and the medical staff was able to see my pup in a very timely fashion...claustrophobia be damned. The vet and tech were very nice. But I would describe their approach as somewhat alarmist, especially considering the directive to quarantine my girl from other dogs for 2-3 months (and I am someone who is always willing to take the extra step just to "be sure," but seriously?). It was pretty obvious we were dealing with a straightforward case of kennel cough, which happens to be widespread throughout the city at the moment. To be clear, lest anyone freak out on me, I take the contagiousness of the illness seriously and did keep my dog out of dog parks and daycare for about 3 weeks. They ordered costly x-rays I didn't get the results of for days (after my proactive follow-up), and worse, they prescribed an antibiotic that didn't do a darn thing to alleviate symptoms. The only helpful medicine we left with was a cough suppressant that allowed everyone to sleep through the night. $700+ and one week later, I took my pup in to her regular vet, who promptly confirmed kennel cough and prescribed a different antibiotic that was immediately effective. She scoffed not only at the over-the-top x-rays, but the antiquated antibiotic course we were given - and I can't say I've ever had a vet basically criticize another's approach, but it wasn't difficult to read between the lines. It's also worth noting that AIMSS did not, even upon my follow-up to ensure the proper contact info, forward medical records to my regular vet. Thankfully, I had them on-hand because by then, I'd started to doubt their back office. For emergency services, I recommend Pets Unlimited on the north side of the city, and VCA SF Vet Specialists on the south side. And I am sure there are countless other better options in between, as well. Read Less
