Friendly staff in an intimate space. We've been bringing our dog here for a few years now and they are super helpful, attentive, and we have found that they generally have appointment openings without much wait. Parking can always be a little difficult but drive around and you should be able to find street parking easily. If not, there is a parking garage at the Chase bank on Fulton a few blocks down (if your dog can walk) so you can always park there and not be worried about getting towed. Read Less

Dr. Jessica Hunter and the whole team at San Francisco Pet Hospital are amazing! I would highly recommend Dr. Hunter to anyone; she was compassionate and caring as well as being an incredibly knowledgable and skilled veterinarian.  Dr. Hunter went out of her way to help my boy Taz, and went above and beyond all my hopes and expectations. I couldn't have asked for more.Taz received the BEST care I could possibly ask for, and he is happily recovering thanks to the excellent service and care we received.  No one likes having to take their loved one to the vet, but Dr. Hunter, Dr. Morris, and the whole family at SF Pet Hospital showed the best care and treatment I could have hoped for.  Best pet hospital and veterinarians in SF, hands down! I've been taking my three dogs here for about five years now, so since I'm on Yelp, looking for a new place to eat,  I figured I'd leave a review for them. The Cliffs Notes version: SF Pet Hospital is a great veterinary clinic for your pets! The previous vet I was taking my dogs to was very pushy with up-selling. I dreaded to go there because I didn't want to feel pressured/guilted into buying more stuff not being sure if it was really needed.SF Pet Hospital is the complete opposite of that jazz. They recommended I stopped one of the flea/heartworm pills that were very expensive and the other place kept pushing. They said it was not necessary (just use Frontline for flea control).Never have I felt pressured/guilted into anything here. After years of going here, I trust that if they recommend something they're doing it for the best interest of my dogs, not their bottom line. And now, as my dogs get older I'm happy they're in good hands here. One of my dogs now has heart disease. She was hacking and coughing and losing so much weight we didn't know what was going on. Dr. Leyba took care of her. Tweaking the meds until he got it right and now she's back to being a little chunky trooper with her heart meds. You wouldn't know she has a bad heart the way she walks around town like she owns it.Most of my experience has been with Dr. Leyba. But they've also seen Dr. Hunter, Dr. Morris, and Dr. Pearlstein. They're all great, so no worries there. The front desk people and the techs are also very good, helpful, and kind when dealing with the dogs. Refilling meds, etc. Read Less

Just moved to SF from NYC and looking for a new vet. Wow really blown away by the staff and the vet that I saw - Dr. Krol. I took my dog in for a dental issue, which could have required x-rays and a potential tooth extraction. This would have cost me upwards of a thousand dollars. The vet was very honest in giving her opinion of which path to take, and we decided to wait and monitor my dog's health and behavior before taking drastic and expensive measures. This is a plus to me, I don't want expensive, unnecessary procedures pushed on me. Very patient and answered all of my questions and was super friendly. The office was very nice as well. All in all terrific place and happy to have found a new vet! Read Less

Hands down, the best pet hospital in the Bay Area, imo. My pup, Hippo, had a few health problems when the bf and I got him. We adopted him from another family who didn't want him and was giving him away. Little did we know, he had some health issues. Visibly, he had some missing fur patches on parts of his body as well as a really bad smelly ear infection. Not knowing the cause and what else might be internally wrong, we decided to search for a good doctor to help fix him up. Our friend recommended us to SF Pet Hospital so we immediately made an appointment and soon, we were in for Hippo's first visit. Within one session, Hippo was diagnosed and given a series of creams and antibiotics to help with the mites on his skin and his ear infection. Another visit and a few weeks later, our baby boy was infection free, ears cleaned, mites free, and his fur was starting to grow back from the missing patches! Because of this, we also swapped over our baby girl, Peanut. Although the drive is far (we're from Millbrae) and we could've found somewhere closer, it's definitely worth the drive cause of the type of care and professionalism this place offers. Not only are all the doctors very knowledgeable and caring towards their furry patients, but the ladies in the front as well as the nurses are all very friendly and attentive also. Pets can be great companions for life. How we care for them and keep them healthy is essential to the length of their lifespan. That's why it's important to find a great healthcare facility that will care for your pet as much as you do. SF Pet Hospital is the place I trust with my Hippo and Peanut. Prices are pretty standard. $69 for an office visit but the bill can go up to $150+ per visit depending on additional vaccinations or antibiotics. Read Less

We have been using SFPH for almost 20 years & recommend them at every chance I get.  I'm embarrassed I'm only now reviewing them - maybe a subconscious attempt to keep them to myself?  We started with them when it was just Dr. Morris, but have since seen both Dr. Hunter & Dr. Leyba as they joined the practice.  We've taken not only our 3 dogs & cat but numerous foster dogs for German Shepherd Rescue of N. CA.  We've given them everything from a simple case of "your dog has fleas" to a rare muscular ailment specific to athletic GSDs like K9s.The vets are all very talented and Dr. Morris believes in continuing education so I feel confident that I'm getting up-to-date care.  Even better, if they don't know something, they tell you, and will research it or send you on to someone who knows more - there's no ego here trying to keep you in house at all costs.  And they've always included me in the decisions we make about my pets' care - we discuss options and arrive at a way forward; I'm never dictated to or forced to do something I'm uncomfortable with.My husband & I always say that we wish this was a human medical practice - its the kind of care I always want for, but rarely get, for myself. SF Pet Hospital has been fantastic - the vets, vet techs and front desk staff are exceptionally compassionate and competent. When I first took our puppy in for initial exams, the vet tech Bonnie kindly recommended tips and books for us to study up on, since our puppy corgi is so rambunctious and puppy classes and our training at home didn't seem too effective. We subsequently did all of our vaccinations and health checks with SFPH.Recently, Dr. Hunter saved our puppy's life by noticing abnormalities in her blood work during her spay (which was very well-done, our puppy healed within a couple of days). Thanks to Dr. Hunter, we are beginning aggressive treatments to manage her rare kidney disease and will hopefully get more time with our puppy than we otherwise would have, had the problem gone undetected in our spunky, normal looking pup. I've always had a great experience taking my doggie to SF Pet Hosp. She is an extremely nervous patient, but the entire staff is very sweet and comforting to her. They are generous with the treats and the cheese whiz; we have always had a successful visit. I recommend taking your dog or cat for an initial exam/visit before there is a problem to establish them as a patient. I have been in the reception area when they have had to tell people with sick animals over the phone that they have no appts available today, and rec the SPCA. And the thing is - they are completely busy, they are not trying to be rude. I am a dentist myself and I know that while we do always try to fit in emergency patients, sometimes it is not possible for a small practice. This is true of any kind of medical/dental/veterinary practice. Thank you guys for your kindness and caring - See you again next year! Read Less

AMAZING all around!  I cannot rave enough about Dr. Leyba and the entire staff at SF Pet Hospital!  Professional, incredibly personable, and thorough - everything to make a person and their pet feel completely at ease. I had brought my cat Mette to 3 different vets for opinions for a surgery.  The receptionist was awesome and even let me know that she was scheduling us for a time that, if we should choose, no pressure ever, we could actually have the surgery done that same day.  Dr. Leyba is the best vet I can honestly say that I have ever visited!  We've been to many, and there are a lot of great ones out there, but he has that little something that makes you just want to go to the vet.  I felt like he answered questions before I needed to ask, ran me through the details in a way that was clear and friendly and comfortable, and most importantly to me, treated my pet like the family member she is to me.  During the surgery he called with a prompt update to let me know all was going well and as planned and another follow up once it was all complete, with all of the information to put me at ease that my cat was in the best hands possible.  The team here all really have a heart of gold.  They treat every pet that I saw walk through the door with ease and in such a positive light.  The facilities are warm and inviting, clean, very clean, and comfortable.  Definitely will be our new go to for all of our household pets in the family.Thank you to Dr. Leyba for the amazing work you do, and the truly kind way that you do it! Everyone at SF Pet Hospital has been helpful and thoughtful every time we have taken our dog and our cat in.About 3 weeks ago, we got an unfortunate diagnosis on our dog, that she had a fast moving cancer, and would be dying soon. It was a lot to take, and there were a lot of details - Dr. Morris called back the next day to ask if we understood everything, if we had any questions, and if there was anything else they could do for us.Yesterday, we put our dog down. Dr. Pearlstein talked us through it, showing affection for our dog, and handling her humanely and with love, despite only having met our dog once before. I've been seeing Dr. Morris for my 3 pets for the last 3 years. I really enjoy the visits when I see him...but there's the rub. Since his office isn't open on weekends and he's out on Thurdays, I am almost NEVER able to schedule an urgent (but non-emergency) appointment with him. This means that my pets see him for their annual exams, but when a health issue inevitably comes up, I'm forced to go to another clinic that can squeeze me in within 1-2 days. Personally, I didn't like Dr. Leyba's beside manner when I saw him 3 years ago (I think it's just a personality thing), so the fact that I will see only Dr. Morris doesn't help the situation either. If I could get an appointment when needed, I would probably give SF Pet Hospital 5 stars. Read Less

If you live on the presidio side of the city or anywhere near Geary, this is a no brainer. Dr. Morris is compassionate, has lots of experience, and his staff is super friendly. They are a small attentive office, with reasonable rates, and go above and beyond the call of duty for you. (They opened up after closing once when I got there late, to get food for me. They gave me a small bag of food free of charge one time, just to see if my cat would eat it. ) Super professional and make you feel great, when answering questions. Very gentle with the animals too. While other vets left me with an ""I don't know what to tell you"" - my cat had been getting sick immediately after eating for 2 years straight, and lost so much weight it was looking dismal. Dr. Morris was SUPER gentle with my cat (who hates the vet) and made him comfortable. Spent an hour with me in the office, during a busy time, like it was nothing. He sticks with it, puzzle solving with the same info other vets had, but he solved the issue. After thoroughly examining all the tests other vets had given, and the ingredients of different foods my cat ate, Dr. Morris was able to isolate an allergy to a commen ingredient of foods other vets had recommended, that was making my cat sick. My old cat is happily eating his new food, with the help of a little tummy medication - he is happy, healthy and cruisin again after 2 yrs of misdiagnosis!

Read Less

I did want a little bit more information on how to update my cat's chip and when I asked how I would go about that, the receptionist plainly stated that I would have to contact the chip company. It's not the animals hospital's job to update the chips, sure, I get that. But a little more information or consideration would have been a bonus.Otherwise exceptional patient and client service. Just moved to SF and needed to find a local vet to renew some prescription medication from my English bulldog. In my dog's three years, this has been my best vet experience! I was so pleasantly surprised. DR Morris is so lovely and really took the time to ask questions and explain things to me, especially being new to the West Coast. Definitely felt he had our best interest at heart.Dr Morris didn't force anything on us either - he even gave me pricing to compare on Amazon. I highly recommend this vet and will continue to use them going forward.

She spent a lot of time with us, and made sure we felt good about what was happening. We've gotten good information, good prices on flea meds, and we've never felt rushed. Suffice to say I had a very sick cat ten years ago, and they kept coming up with contradictory treatment plans for her that only seemed to make things worse. And today I had an appointment to bring in a new cat, who's survived some pretty horrific mistreatment by a former owner, and they screwed up the scheduling so that I dragged the poor cat all the way to their office and then it turned out there was no appointment and they couldn't fit us in. I felt really bad that I put the poor little guy in his carrying case and hauled him over there for nothing, after all he's been through.
