Just came back from their hospital, everyone was really nice to me including the front staff.  I came because my dog is a picky eater and I needed to get an exam to see if she was sick, also for nutritional guidance for my Pomeranian.  Dr. Zeh was really helpful and knowledgable and gave me a lot of nutritional information.  Also, her bedside manner was professional and cared a lot about my dog.  I go to 3 different VETS for different needs.  I may just go to her for future appointments now. This is a great place.  I have been taking my cat here for several years and Dr. Hodge Jr. (and Sr.) have always been very helpful, patient and kind with my sweet boy.  They are very upfront about costs and won't push you to get any procedure/treatment.  Rather, they present the options and let you decide.  In the past they had some crappy office help but now all of the people at the front are very cordial and nice.  I believe that the Dr. Hodges have good healing energy...They care deeply about animals and have a very pragmatic approach to veterinary medicine.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it with unnecessary tests and if it ain't working then try something else! I found my new vet! I called around after having a very negative experience with a previous vet where I spent hundreds of dollars on unnecessary tests on my dog. Needless to say I called around to vets in the area and was surprised to find some very rude vets out there! Finally I called Camden Pet hospital.....  sweet lady on the phone who got my dog in right away. All of the staff was great, friendly, compassionate and very much a family feel. The doctor was awesome and even called me later in the day to discuss my dog's health further with me and make sure I had no additional questions. I really cant say enough, they care about your pet. I have brought my fur- kids to Camden Pet Hospital for over 20 years. The moment we walk in, we are greeted by name & smiles. Dr. Hodge Sr. has always. been our Vet & he has always shown the greatest care with our dogs, asking pertinent questions, explaining what the issue is, & what we.need to do. (It is " we" as it is a team effort. ) This runs from common ailments to far more severe, life threatening injuries. Last year, while walking my dog on leash, a neighbor drove her F250 over my dog. She hadn't put her windshield wipers on & drove fast, we didn't have any time to move. Hearing my dog screaming in agony was truly the worst thing ever. We made an emergency call to Camden, & they were ready when we got there. Dr.Hodge operated on my dog for hours. The wheel of the F250 had essentially burned & scalped my dog, almost half of her body. He explained what had to be done & the entire team at Camden rallied around my dog & I. Hundreds of stitches later, tubes inserted to drain fluids, the surgery was over. Dr.Hodge emerged from the three hour surgery with blisters on his hands. I was updated by emails & phone calls every step of the way. My dog had to stay for over a week & the kennel staff were so warm and loving to my dog. She came home covered in stitches, weak but on the road to a full recovery. I'm convinced that she would have died if not for Dr.Hodge and the entire team at Camden. Finally, all pet owners have to go through the awful, heart wrenching decision & ordeal of euthanising an old, much loved dog, who is very much a family member. A previous dog of mine, at age 16, had arrived at that time, when in her best interests, we decided it was time for her to journey over the rainbow bridge. I held her in my arms, stroking her, telling her I loved her, with Dr. Hodge explaining each step. I cried & cried when she closed her eyes & I felt that last, final heartbeat. When I went back in to pick up her cremains, the gentle way the young assistant handed over that box, will forever give me comfort. First the two stars is for the very nice office staff upfront.I found Camden Pet Hospital through Yelp trying to find a vet closer to home.  Read through the reviews and appreciated that they wrote back if there was any concerns.  After reading the majority of great reviews I decided to give them a try.  I also did a little more research through Google as well.  As I was reviewing them on google a coupon came up.  They offered a one dollar head to toe exam for new clients.  This was a great offer as it gave me a chance to get to know them and figure out if this is the right place for my dog.Made a phone call and I was able to get a same day appointment.  Megan was very helpful and very courteous.Upon my arrival I was greeted and checked in.  I filled out some basic information and waited for the doctor.  I arrived about 20 minutes before my appointment so my dog could get settled as it was a new place.  About 10 minutes past my appointment time I was taken back.  The girl that took me back asked if a dog near by was okay for my dog to pass.  I apologized and said no sorry she's a dog that thinks she should be the only one.  We were able to make it to the exam room and waited for Dr. Zeh to arrive.  Upon arrival she was very nice and attentive.  I gave her information about my dog and that we were there for a physical.   Dr. Zeh did some basic checks on her legs and then checked her teeth.  Before checking her teeth she asked if she's temperament and I said yes due to her age she's a little grumpy.  Dr. Zeh continued to check her teeth and my dog does well but then barked with disapproval.  Dr. Zeh then through her hands up and said no.  I told her sorry about that.  She then said she recommends for blood work to see what's going on with her.  I politely asked if we can wait on that due to financial cost of it.   She said yes and said she would like to examine her in the back.  This was a first for me so I then asked are you going to put a muzzle on her.  She said yes and I approved of this.  My dog was back there for about max 4 minutes.  Dr. Zeh had an assistant bring my dog back as she followed.  She then stated she recommends the blood work to really know what's going on.  I then asked how the physical was.  She stated fine but the blood work would tell us more.  I then asked what exactly did you do back there?  She then began to touch my dog to I guess show me but I informed her she doesn't need to physically show me but tell me what did she check and find.She stated that she checked her legs and they seem stiff, her weight is under.  She stated that she did not do an extensive check on her like her ears or anything.  She then restated that blood work is best to really know what's going on and that is 199.99.I was honestly stumped and surprised at the same time.  In my opinion she basically did not do a full exam and expected me to agree to the blood work.I left the room and put my dog in the car due to another dog being at the desk.  Came back in and paid.  Asked for a copy of the doctors write up.  Once I paid and had a copy I asked the nurse if it was normal for a head to toe check up to not include everything.  She said oh look right here the doctor wrote limited check up due to aggressiveness.  I told her I am confused as that was the purpose of her taking her to the back to put a muzzle on her so she could do a full exam.  She said let me go ask the doctor.  I said no it's okay I am done.  This is not the best impression for a potential client.  She was polite and stated she agreed.1.  I told them my dog was not friendly to other dogs and they said they would notate it on the chart.2.  This is the first time you're seeing my dog so when I say I have apprehension about her exam I mean it.  You can't check a dogs teeth and be on the floor at eye level with them.3.  When you say you're going to take the dog to the back to do the exam and state you will put a muzzle on her then I expect a full exam.4.  Just like you don't want your doctor to tell you that you need to run tests before your physical, don't expect me to do that with my dog.  Complete the head to toe exam and then make recommendations.  If that was done I might be a little more trusting to pay to do it.  But to ask for money first that is not the right way to run a business.So it is with regret that I do NOT recommend this place and suggest you call around and perhaps ask questions about the vet before subjecting your animal to be in a place they hate.  Again the two stars is for the friendly office staff and not for Dr. Zeh. We started going to Camden about 10 years ago, are were pretty happy with the care we received. Unfortunately our primary vet moved, and things were never the same. Recently I took my dog into the office after he started acting strange, and after 3 visits, 2 weeks, poor bedside manner, and a couple thousand dollars later, we were told he had some pretty aggressive cancer -- which had already spread and metastasized -- and there was nothing we could do. We asked how much time we had left, and he told us to just take things day-by-day. We asked if there was any medication to ease his pain, and the vet informed us that dogs don't really feel pain - which i found to be a ridiculous thing to say. Irritated about the lack of answers and compassion, we took our pet to Reed Animal Hospital, and got drastically different results. Dr. Reed understood our problem, offered a catheter and enema to relieve the pain and pressure from his enlarged prostate, and prescribed both prostate medication and a pain reliever. He let us know that our dog had about a month left, and he offered his mobile phone number to text any issues we might come across in that month. All of this was after our first appointment. There are very few veterinarian hospitals you walk into with your dog and feel such great vibes as I did today when I walked into Camden Pet Hospital today! The staff was very efficient and friendly to both me and my toy poodle Doc Holiday. I was referred to Dr. Hodge Sr. By my mother in law who brought all her show dogs to him for many years. I was very excited to finally meet him in person today, he was very kind and compassionate. As well as informitive about my little poodles health,  we brought Doc in because he's been having some pain when he wakes up in the morning,  after a careful examination we decided to try him on an anti inflammatory medication to see if that helps. I was also pleased to see how the tech loved my little guy too.  Thank you Doctor Hodge we will definately be bringing our basenji to see you as well, and look forward to being life long clients at your hospital! Great practice. Everyone was very friendly. Our dog is 16+ years old, and still hanging in there. They remodeled recently, and it appears they have solar panels on top of the roof. Doctor was friendly and informative, and remembered specific details about Lucky that I wouldn't expect. Highly recommend! They also have pet boarding and sitting. Read Less

I've been bringing my five cats to Camden for last 10 years. The staff has been pleasant and professional. Especially the backstaff who have been great with my pets. Dr. Hoffman is a wonderful doctor who listens and understands and works with your problems. The prices are higher than Some other vets but you are paying for quality. Would not take my pets anywhere, And I recommend them to everyone who has pets. Read Less

My experience with Camden Pet Hospital over the past few months has been generally good. They have shown themselves to be friendly and responsive to our needs. The facilites are well kept, the quality of care seems to be very good, the doctors and front office staff are personable, and the key indicator, our dog appears less scared with each visit. On the flip side of that same coin, our dog has a cyst which was known to be a non-issue. During a general check up, they choose to voluntarily drain her cyst, which we did not request. After that the cyst became problematic and we have had to spend $$ on antibiotics and elizabethan collars and follow up office visits. I realize that there was no intent, but as a result of this 'good deed' we have been contending now with a cyst that will not close and continues to become infected. I think the law of unintended consequences applies. That being said, unless there is a sudden drop in the quality or value of the services rendered, we will continue to use take our dog here. I don't care if the vets here are liberal or conservative, gay or straight, men or women, black, white, or any other color. I'm trying to find someone that is concerned about my dog's health and is knowledgeable enough to take care of her. You don't want people to discriminate against you for your beliefs? Stop discriminating against others for their beliefs; you're being hypocritical. Camden Pet Hospital - I apologize for posting this comment here. This forum should be an avenue for concerned pet owners looking for a vet and seeking some advice from people that have used your services, not people with an axe to grind looking to smear your business. I LOVE Dr. Hoffman and my furbabies do too! She has seen us through some pretty harrowing and sad times. A true gem. You can tell that she loves animals. Dr. Hoge is fabulous as well - he performed a pretty intricate surgery on one of my dogs and he was as good as new. PS - What does Prop 8 have to do with a veterinary clininc? I also love Dr. Hoffman, she is professional, courteous and very loving to you animal (s) but i agree that the office staff has much to be desired. They have been rude in person and on the phone. Not very helpful and I also have had problems with charges. Every time I go get my pets meds the cost goes up. From 1.00 to 10.00 depending on the meds. I was very disappointed and they gave me no explanation as to why the meds increased. I just had to deal with it and pay it. I am also considering going somewhere else. I feel that if the doctors aren't represented well then maybe I don't want to give them my business. I have felt from them that they can afford to loose me as a patient and that doesn't make me feel valued as a customer. Again that is representative of the staff not doctors but the doctors should be more aware of what is going on in their office. Read Less

The vets in this office are wonderful and the people handle the animals with respect and care. The front office billing staff are not so wonderful. I have been overcharged hundereds of dollars for boarding today. The rate I was quoted is not the rate I was charged. The office staff are sure this is my mistake. I know that a friend was charged the rate I was quoted only a few months ago. I have paid up to get my pets back after our vacation, but I do not know if I will ever return to the office. Check your bills very carefully here, and make sure you understand the staff is charging you correctly. This is not the first billing error I have caught, but is the first I was unable to resolve with them. The front office was very indifferent, they know you will pay to get your pets back whatever they want to charge, especially if you have your kids with you. I wholeheartedly recommend the doctors, they have been there a long time and are well respectd in the area and used by many people in the neighborhood. They take good care of your pet and were very nice when our dog had to be euthanized several years ago. We have used this office since the 1980's for two generations of pets, but I can't let this pass. I would have used the Kitty Hotel on Bascom If I had known they would switch the rate on me. I may be bias because Dr. Hoffman is best friends with our pup's breeder, so was there the night she was born. She's been great! She took care of all of her shots, her spay, etc. We moved away, and shortly after our pup became sick. It was Memorial day, so we took her to an emergency pet hospital. She didn't recover, so I tried to follow up with the emergency vet. They kept giving me the run around and wouldn't refill the prescription she needed b/c our attending vet was out of town. Dr. Hoffman called for me to try to get another vet in the office to help, to no avail. She went ahead and took care of it herself, faxing us a prescription to a human pharmacy.
