These people were terrible. They didn’t even understand my what happened to my dear bunny. He died within 5 minutes on the car. He was very sick wouldn’t eat, drink, sleep, or go bathroom. They didn’t know anything AT ALL. We searched them up quickly through google. They are truly liars. My bunny died 5 minutes after we left. My hunny was given shots. Painkillers too. We payed $200 dollars and were returned $20 for the medicine. Because we didn’t open the medicine. We were on the car. And the bunny just died. These people can’t help you at all. They take your money even though they know there’s no hope. DONT GO TO THIS PLACE. But one thing that probably helped my bunny leave in peace, is the painkillers. Read Less

Heartbroken I chose to bring a found kitten here after hours. Offered to pay for it being checked out despite it being a stray since I feared it would be slaughtered at the shelter due to breathing problems and it was such a sweet heart. Was told there was little chance it would be at risk because it had a microchip, but I should call the Animal Services in the morning to check on its status since it would be transferred. (Was given the wrong phone number.) Left my phone number with United and again reiterated I'd happily put up some money to ensure its well being. In the end, they chose to euthanize it without so much of a phone call when they learned it needed surgery & the microchip reader gave a false positive reading. What the heck is wrong with our system if this is standard procedure. Poor thing was murdered needlessly when financial responsibility was offered up front before surrendering it. Save yourselves the grief and go elsewhere. Read Less

Have gone to the Dell location in the past but recently came here a couple of times. We always expect emergency vet care to be pricey. So appreciative that the two recent times we came, they were kind, honest, and actually gave us some gentle guidance and assistance without charging us at all. The first time we found a tick that had somehow burrowed in our dog's chin without us noticing; he had gotten quite large. They took it off safely and sent us on our way with no charges since it was so quick and easy. The second time we found that our same silly dog had somehow ripped off one of his back toenails; it wasn't actively bleeding anymore but raw and pink. They took a quick look and advised us to keep it clean and dry; they offered for us to see the doc just for a bandaid but I appreciated their reassurance that it wasn't a big deal. Our two dogs are seniors, and we've taken them to both United emergency locations many a time in their lives. It's often so hard to know when to bring them in but we tend to be better safe than sorry people. It's great to have a place that doesn't gouge you for your money just because they can. Also, clean and easy to access location. ;) Read Less

They almost killed my cat by giving him an overdose of pain meds. I took him in for a simple laceration. They sutured his straight line laceration like a purse string closure, in other words, a round drawstring mess. I'm an emergency room nurse for people, so I know this was a mess. Then they gave him several drugs that I did not authorize, one of which nearly killed him. It cost me a lot of money and severe anxiety for days, not knowing what would happen to him. When I called this morning to make an appointment to have his sutures removed, as I was told I could when I brought him in and told them I was new to the area and didn't have a vet here, a woman named Christine bitchily told me to find a vet and they were an emergency vet. I paid nearly $430 to have you nearly kill my cat with an unauthorized drug and you can't even remove the stitches like you promised for free? Really? Read Less

The staff was friendly, but I'm not sure I received a clear prognosis for my poor cat. Brought him in last night & after a physical, they couldn't determine why he wasn't eating or off balance... they said there was a slight heart murmur but his breathing was okay. Charged me over $500 for blood work and a urine test. They wanted to keep him overnight to monitor. The vet said it was some sort of infection and to put him on antibiotics. We wanted to take him home where he would be comfortable. So he was given fluids and antibiotics but we were suppose to come back the next day for more meds and to check in with a neurologist. He passed away by the morning.... I wish I would have known this could have been an outcome. I would have stayed with him at my mom's house. I felt the first tech that came in and said his core temperature was low could have told us that he was older and may not make it... maybe I should have asked more questions, but I didn't research everything until after the fact. In the moment I just trusted the professionals. I didn't want him to be in any type of pain, that's why we brought him in. If he was on his last hours I would have liked to have been told and  rather had him at home versus having blood drawn and around strangers... not sure if all the tests were business motivated or necessary... all I know is our family cat is gone... My puppy ate a Tylenol pill. I called and told them what happened they told me to bring him in immediately and when I arrived someone came and took him to the back right away. He had a two night stay and they called to update me in the morning and the afternoon both days. The made it very clear that I could come in any time to see him I just called ahead to let them know I was coming. I was allowed to bring a dog treat with me. His kennel was very clean they tried to make him a toy to play with to keep him busy. When I could pick him up they asked for an estimated time of my arrival and everything was ready when I got there. They had my final bill ready my medications in a bag. A tech came and explained what to do and then they I was ready to go. Didn't take more than 10 minutes to get out of there. If an emergency arises again - hopefully not- I'd go right back to them. We have used United Vet for both emergency and specialty services. The team is warm, friendly and clearly loves animals and the joy they bring into our lives. Our first visit here was for what i affectionately call the "new mommy tax" when I panicked because our puppy was coughing after eating a treat without chewing enough. They were very reassuring, helped confirm it wasn't anything terrifying (kennel cough) and sent us home with peace of mind. In October, we brought in our older cat while she was experiencing severe dehydration with kidney failure. We were pretty sure we were coming in vain, and that we were going to lose her. I am thrilled to report that the team here saved her life. The emergency staff and Dr. Reinker were with us every step of the way, getting her hydrated, her infection resolved and back home with us for four months and counting. The hospital techs (especially Courtney!) and reception staff were great and did not mind me calling and checking in, and also were proactive in keeping us informed in near real time as she was hospitalized. Dr. Reinker is very collaborative and caring, as well as being an outstanding vet. She helped us make decisions that balanced Apricot's comfort, giving her her best shot, and also trying to manage costs effectively. She clearly explained each test, the results, and how it affected the treatment plan. While some of this care was expensive at times, we felt confident about our decisions and that we had the information we needed. We were all on the same page that we didn't want her hospitalized or miserable, but that if  Apricot would fight to get better, we would fight with her. We call Apricot our "miracle kitty". She's one of those cats that keeps a piece of your heart, and I am so grateful to the team for bringing our her home to us. Read Less

I called regarding having to put our family cat down and the woman who answered the phone was amazingly kind and sensitive. As I started crying she just spoke in a very soft tone and said she was sorry and we could come in any time. We brought in our cat and the whole staff was very friendly and nice. Our cat actually passed away in my moms arms before the vet came in to put him down and they gave us all the time we needed in the room to say goodbye. They let us just leave after since we were pretty distraught, but called the next day to offer a refund for the euthanasia costs. This is a wonderful place to have take care of your pets. Read Less

My first 18 months with these folks seemed to be great.  I have "invested" thousands of dollars for my dog's health.  She was here three times in the doggie "ICU", multiple tests and treatments.  After all of this, she now eats a special dog food and takes medications twice per day.  Let me make it clear - she had excellent care.My issue comes with the past two weeks.  All of these 18 months I have been ordering my dog's special food through this clinic without a problem.  Two weeks ago they suddenly said "we don't order food here."  I told them historically that wasn't true, but it didn't matter.  So - I order on an online site - with the understanding the website folks will call the Veterinary clinic to get the prescription.  What happened?  The clinic got the call BUT they didn't return the call so the food didn't get ordered.  Now - I'm in a slight panic.  So - this clinic refills the medications and gives me a "list" of places that carry her food.  He specifically asked about the food and he was assured "someone will call you."  They did call - but the same answer - which is "we don't order food."  My husband's comment was "nobody seemed to know what they were doing, I think they were both new hires."  Back to the food quest.  Last week I called the first one on the list - Petsmart who says "we have it and will hold it for you."  I get there tonight, they held the wrong product.  I go to yet another Petsmart (as we called ahead) and they held the wrong product.I called #3 on the list and FINALLY found somebody who knows the food, who has the food on hand and described the packaging to me which let me know they had the right food.I'm angry these people threw me under the bus and just cost me nearly three hours of my life driving the freeways during traffic.  I'll transfer my dog to another clinic.  Her old Veterinarian is now at Sage in Campbell (Ryan Garcia).  I will never take her here again unless under great duress. This is about the United Veterinary Specialty & Emergency clinic at 5440 Thornwood Drive in San Jose. We found a beautiful 5 or 6-month-old orange tabbycat/kitten in the middle of Watsonville Road near Hecker Pass/Highway 152 around midnight last night. She had been mortally injured, but we managed to get her to the clinic. I wish I could remember the name of the veterinarian; he was probably in his 30s, with short, dark hair. Thanks god there were Michelle because she did everything, blood test, intravenous everything! She explained what to do, the medication and also how much Pepcid gave to my little dog, very happy with Michelle help. The worst thing was that I asked to the lady in the front desk to change my last name 3 times, she didn't! The fourth she did but wrong at the beginning she put S I asked Z but she decided that with C was better ufff! But the last thing was that they told me they will send the test to my veterinary, they didn't, called and ask them to send them please and they told me: right away! Then I went with my vet for food and they told me nothing received yet! Very disappointed! I gave 3 stars because of Michelle and because the veterinary gave medicine to my little one and she is feeling better but really? One hour and a half there and only 5 minutes with the vet?!!! The vet tech (I don't know her name) was also very kind to Spike and to us, and spent a good amount of time with us. When Dr. Morehouse came in, he spent a lot of time asking questions, looking at Spike's records, and giving him a very thorough examination. He was so nice and genuinely cared about exploring all the possibilities of what was happening. It was the best service we have ever encountered from a vet.

The staff is very nice. Very clean facility. Waiting room is clean the individual rooms for seeing the vet are clean and th exact where they keep the animals is very clean. Read Less

He was very kind and gentle, and we were very grateful that, if she had to be humanely euthanized, that he was there to do what needed to be done. Read Less

Yesterday Tuesday 7/6/16 came at  9:30 pm and get out at 11:00 pm, there were no emergencies only one before me, the vet woman on Tuesday was terrible, start telling me it can be Pancreatic problem or something less, then send their people to do everything, the vet spend less than 5 minutes with me and told me the electrolytes were low at the end, she didn't come again, explained anything else, nor the medication! Not happy at all! Specially when they told me it was $300.- dollars. Read Less

He was so nice and genuinely cared about exploring all the possibilities of what was happening. It was the best service we have ever encountered from a vet.
