I am very disappointed in Staff Veterinarian Koko Shishida, and do not recommend her. I took my maltase Chihuahua to VCA Hospital to examine her eardrum, which I believed had a foxtail inside. After examining my pup, Dr. Shishida agreed that she also believed there was a foxtail insider my pup's ear and recommended that she go under general anesthesia to have it removed. During this procedure, Dr. Shishida was not able to remove the foxtail, but rather ruptured my dog's eardrum. She (what seemed to be authentically at the time) apologized and said she felt really bad that she ultimately left us with an unsuccessful and worse outcome. She gave my dog antibiotics and pain medicine and ensured us that if my dog continued to have problems wither her ear, she would do the procedure again, once the swelling had gone down, free of charge. A few weeks later, I called VCA Hospital to schedule an appointment to try the procedure once again. My pup has since had two follow-up appointments with her normal vet to make sure the ear is healing correctly. At the second appointment to our normal vet, our vet agreed that it was time to put my pup under general anesthesia once again to remove what looks like a foxtail surrounded by lots of ear wax and dark excess. I explained what Koko Shishida had said about doing the follow-up procedure free of charge, so went on to call VCA. However, even though the VCA Hospital staff member on the phone confirmed from my pup's medical record that Staff Veterinarian Koko Shishida promised to perform the procedure again free of charge - when the staff member went in the back room to ask her, Shishida informed them that it has been too long and she will no longer do it free of charge. This is extremely frustrating: 1) If this were the case, I would have had my normal vet take care of it. 2) Koko Shishida has wasted my time, and created false expectations of how she would/can support my puppy's recovery. Maybe the other reviews are right, and VCA is just concerned about money. Read Less

The excellent quality of medical care and the expressions of concern and compassion from EVERYONE I interacted with was outstanding. I cannot say enough about the professionalism of the surgeon, the internal medicine and critical care vets, the anesthesiology tech, the staff who handled my appointments and billing and even the front desk staff member who provided me with training on their lobby coffee machine. I think VCA BVAS hires outstanding, dedicated and incredibly kind veterinarians and staff, and I am deeply grateful for their collective care and attention to my beloved cat, who used to have a full 9 lives, and now I think may have only 4 or 5 to go....I will take this cat and all future cats to BVAS for care, no second thoughts about it. I took my puppy of 3 months in today. The receptionist was extremely rude and unwelcoming. They had me wait outside the emergency room for service after about an hour he was allowed in we were checked into a room. The vet barely took a glance on him and said he didn't know what my pup could have and he hadn't seen a dog w anything similar. After about another 30 mins we had a tech come in w a estimate of the total care which was extremely over priced. We finally paid and left the facility with the same concerns. This was a really tough review to make, because the oncology department was so very nice to my dog and I. We came in for a second opinion on a mass my dog has and we had a wonderful consultation that ended in a diagnostic plan and a treatment plan. Unfortunately, when it came to the surgical estimate, they were unwilling to budge at all. I had an invoice from my normal vet for him to do the same procedure and I knew that a procedure here would be quite a bit more because the surgeons here are trained specifically in these types of procedures. I went over the invoice they gave me and noticed a lot of "nice to have" type of treatment. (Staying for a day and a half after the surgery and the costs that not only come with the stay cost but with the meds and fluids for the whole time, CRI infusion, and the more expensive versions of pain medications, antibiotics, etc). I spoke to them and they refused to go with any of the more budget friendly of any of these options, with the excuse that "it is more expensive because she is board certified." I saw the part of the invoice that was for the surgeon's time and I was fine with that added cost, what I wasn't fine with was the "platinum additions" when I can only afford "budget" or "silver" additions. I would love if they would actually work with me on this, but so far they are refusing to concede a single recommendation. Can this stop being about getting more money out of us and instead be about helping my dog for just a little less than they are asking for? I'm only trying to get 10-20% off of the price by reducing the "nice to have" items down to what is actually NEEDED. Read Less

They helped me with three dogs over the last two years: one bee sting in a nose, one ruptured disk in a back, one pup with Panosteitis and one cremation for a lost soul. The team is always sensitive and prompt in their service. Kind, smart people. One "needs to improve" area is information management. They lack a central VCA info repository and also lack a client portal to access your pet's records. My 7 year old Chessie became very sick on March 10, 2016. She wasn't eating, was lethargic and I knew she had a fever. I took her down that night and the staff was fabulous. They took her in the back right away and told me her vitals we good but that she was running a fever. Dr. Kristen Danielson came in to see me and was wonderful. We ran blood and did x-rays and everything looked good. They suggested I keep her overnight so she could receive fluids and antibiotics. The next morning I received a call saying her fever had broken early that morning. Dr. Kristin Manning was going to do an ultra sound to make sure there wasn't anything else going on. Later that afternoon, Dr. Manning called to say everything looked good-her fever was still down and she was eating and looking more like herself. The tests are expensive but you have to do them in order to rule everything out. Both doctors were great at explaining everything to me. Read Less

Read Less

Love love love these folks. Very caring. (The various VCAs can't see each other records - was travelling and we needed treatment in Sacramento). Read Less

Read Less

I came through the doors in a frantic state freaking out about my pit bulls condition after he ate something toxic. The staff was more than comforting and helpful. They helped me with a payment option and really went out of their way to keep my dude alive. He's home now and I couldn't be happier with my experience here. And 24 hours is crucial. Thank you so much. Read Less
