After My horrible experience it’s my obligation to notify the public of this money focused scheme and horrendous gross negligence by veterinary Jacklyn Gasgleen !! Brought my dog here due to her breathing I panicked and being it was Saturday night 11pm I ended up here. Immediately walking in the door the panic stricken receptionist Sydney attempts to dramatize every move one by one alarming your state of mind; Psychologically inflating an urgent cause for panic! She walks over saying they will require a $1000 deposit ! This is before anything is done to my dog! Then minutes later after she verifies payment she says my dog is in oxygen. Ok; fine. While there she continues her panic stricken drama role playing by enticing a panic danger mood in the waiting room; repeatedly to everyone person that walked in the door, same scenario! I caught on very quickly, That this was a charade! The charade was their sales and scheme for a money trapping technique; this is Despicable!! One feels hopeless at that moment instead of trying to comfort you; they Incise panic panic so you hand over any amount of money at that emotional moment ! This vice scheme dramatized charade was repeatedly used on everyone every client! No matter there situation or condition! The vet Jacklyn Gasgleen was the worst! Far out more unethical! She walks in telling us she doesn’t know how much treatment cost but that my dog is very sick! And needs to be their overnight for observation!? So far she knows my dog has trouble breathing but without cashing in on more money she can’t do a thing!” After calling up other vets and realizing we were taken in by this con artist and her Astronomical out rages fees She refuses to provide the detailed medical treatment administered (supposedly) to my dog! Then I asked to put the findings in Spanish for a vet in Tijuana and the translation is completely different than the English version! An no detailed information on the medication administered let alone the dosage! The paper did not even have my dogs vitals !!! Not even her weight!!! Zero! Info that my dog had been treated! Gross negligence and medically violated Veterinarian California Code ; Written Prescriptions: (c) Pursuant to section 4170(a)(6) and (7) of the Business and Professions Code, veterinarians must notify clients that they have a choice to obtain either the medication or a written prescription and that they shall not be charged for the written prescription. Refusing to provide me with the medication administered to my dog! And refusing to provide me a prescription! I have reported this vet along with this hospital the The California Medical Board! And will also be seeking punitive damages a complete refund of Astronomical unjustified made fees! I declined her services I asked her to put what was done to my dog in writing and provide details of the medication she gave my dog - there she refused! Declining to provide Do not bring your pet here! Go anywhere but here! Read Less

This Veterinary Specialty Hospital is definitely the best. Dr. Josh Jackson is spectacular; I cannot recommend this Veterinary clinic enough! I am making this review for anyone who is struggling with finding the best care for their pet that may be facing or trying to prevent a potentially life-threatening health issue! Specialist Dr.Josh Jackson is a perfect display of the kind of integrity you would expect to find from a Hospital like this. He really took his time to look over my poor dog Kaylee, whom had been struggling from cancerous symptoms on her foot and had been unproperly diagnosed multiple times from her previous vet 6 months before. One thing I can say for sure, that was different about this animal hospital from any other, was the integrity and the extra time that they put into your pet and making sure that they are evaluated with the top most care and mindfulness. They thoroughly handled the process on multiple levels and they work as a team, that truly cares about the animals they are treating and the customers that are putting their trust into them. They were direct and there was absolutely no delay in the process of evaluation! Once Dr. Josh Jackson took a thorough look at Kaylee, he took action. He got a second opinion from all the other specialists that were to be involved in her surgery and because they are so incredibly thorough and authentically concerned for Kaylee, I was incredibly impressed with them. The radiologist and oncology specialists that were involved in her surgery were also involved at the same time of her appointment, giving me no doubt that she was getting the best evaluation possible. Dr.Josh Jackson was so sweet and personable! I loved that he took the time to walk my bull dog Kaylee himself and make sure she did not have a symptoms of irregular breathing . Foreseeing the recovery properly and making sure that Kaylee did not have any issue with her breathing, goes beyond any veterinary experience Kaylee and I have ever had. He treated her correctly and in every aspect possible ensured not only the health issue at hand was handled in the best way possible, but also that the animal and the owner’s well-being were treated with the best care, as well. This type of professionalism and mindfulness that this vet and veterinary hospital has, clearly resonates throughout the entire staff that were incredibly attentive in ways that go over and beyond ! Thank you so much Dr.Josh Jackson! Kaylee means so much to me and I cannot thank you enough for being who you are and helping animals like her recover. Read Less

"I knew at that moment; Dr Josh Jackson was treating my Kaylee not just the condition I brought her in for." Read more... I was told my dog had cancer in her foot. This was something her previous vet was treating as an infection for 6 months without ever doing a biopsy. Her new Vet explained she had been in two emergency situations with her dogs and there was only one person to see regarding this. If I wanted to have the best possible care for Kaylee, there was no better option in southern California then Dr Josh Jackson Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. Because this was in her paw she said it should only be treated by a board certified orthopedic surgeon for the best outcome. This was an extreme emergency as it had gone undiagnosed, untreated and growing for 6 months by her previous Vet. So, I was nervous. She prepared me for what was to be expected. Having such a stellar reputation I trusted her when she guaranteed me this facility would completely take care of her and would never recommend or perform any test or procedure that was not 100% necessary. She explained outcomes are not always predictable but if I want the best possible outcome this is the place to go. I decided to get a couple other opinions before my consultation. After I sat down with Dr Josh Jackson and Nurse Julie Verdugo I realized this was a real professional organization. I was amazed how much thought Dr. Jackson put into reviewing Kaylee's medical records, the area of treatment and most importantly taking the time to really observe her before ever giving one opinion about his recommended treatment. I had another surgeon at another hospital give me his opinion over the phone before even meeting Kaylee. Dr Jackson took her for a walk to get another opinion form another specialist and noticed something that had been developing over the past few months regarding her breathing. She had been struggling with her breathing while sleeping and would sometimes choke up. With everything else going on I missed telling him. I got he absolutely wanted to be sure his opinion for treatment would be something he could fulfill upon and Kaylee could recover from. I knew at that moment he was treating Kaylee and not the condition she came in for. When he gave me his opinion on the best course of action he was confident in his recommendation. They did an inexpensive procedure to open her airways first and then immediately took care of the cancer in her foot. She is home resting, recovering and improving. Everyone in the hospital from start to finished hit the mark on delivering the best possible care I could have expected. Personal calls from Dr Jackson during the procedure was not expected and only strengthened my confidence that I made the right decision for her care. It was more like a family Vet experience then a hospital. I don't believe I have ever received treated this good during my own medical emergencies. Thank you… Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego. Read Less

I take my dogs there because the veterinarians and the back office staff are excellent. However the front office staff is very rude. In my opinion some of them show a racial bias. I recently got a dog from south Korea. In the short time he has been here here, he has suffered from bloody diarrhea , he came with a broken non repairable leg, and an ongoing ear infection. I took my dog there for a scheduled and confirmed appointment. The vet tech informed me that they were double booked and had taken the other client (who was caucasian) back. They could work me in no guarantee of any thing being done or I could reschedule. since my dog was there for an ongoing ear infection for the last month and had to be sedated twice already for it, I did not want to reschedule. So I waited. He was seen by another vet who gave him an oral antifungal said his ears couldnt be cleaned out inspite of a moderate amount of yeast present and that he may not need his ears cleaned at all. Yet here we are 4 days later he is shaking his head constantly due to the infection. I have called 3 times today , put up with so much rudeness so my dog is taken care of. The office manager left for the day without calling me back to make an appointment, even though she assured me she would call me. I dont want my dog to suffer or delay his treatment so I accept their rude condescending words that they just happened to see the other client at my scheduled appointment . I understand mistakes happen but shouldnt they try to rectify it and not let a poor dog suffer. Read Less

I researched a good specialty Hospital before I moved to Oceanside this past summer. VSH-North County is a good as you can possibly find. My 3 Labs all have major medical issues, and are the priority in my life. Piper sees Dr. Delamaide (Neurologist), Dr. Mallory (Internist) and Dr. Ganz (Orthopedic Surgeon). When I bring her in to see one of the specialists, we end up seeing her other Doctors while we are walking in the halls. They all get to see her at once, remember her (so important in a large specialty hospital), and give their assessment of how she is doing. How can you ask for anything better than that! The individual Techs come out with such a cheery hello that Piper doesn't get scared (nor do I). Amber Rose was born with a seriously deformed heart and is under the care of Dr. Hodge (Cardiologist). He changed her medication, and Amber Rose is doing better than she has ever done. I feel like my girls are under the most protective umbrella I can even imagine! Thank you to the superb Doctors that care for my girls! Thank you, also, to the fabulous, fabulous front desk staff, who cares for ME. They are so warm and loving when In come in, it takes MY fear of what I might hear away. As busy as they are, being a Specialty Hospital, they remember who I am even when I mention my name on the phone when I call in. What a special touch, when, in January, I was handed a thank you note for Christmas cookies that I brought them as a snack. Anyone who is bringing their pet into a specialty hospital has a fear of what will be revealed. It is awesome to be greeted in the manner that you are greeted, and to be takes care of ion such a loving way. It takes the fear away! I am so grateful, and thankful for everyone at VSH-North County that if I could give them 11 stars out of the possible 5 ...;....ELEVEN STARS IS WHAT THEY DESERVE! Read Less

When we first found a 4-week old abandoned kitty, we didn't know what to do because we've never had pets before (goldfish don't count). We saw a nurse and she told us his gender and the basics of caring for him. She was very nice and they didn't charge us for talking to us. We found a "regular" vet for him but a few weeks later, he broke his foot at about 9pm, when his very was already closed. We were grateful that VSH was open 24/7 when we brought him in to get checked out. They are a little pricey but I'm ok with that because of the peace of mind that they'll always be open (there's a cost to staying open all night). We ended up taking him to his own vet the next day because the fracture was tolerable for him with some pain meds. VSH called us a few days later to check up on him, which I appreciate so very much. Our pup Luna had been having trouble walking and dragging her back legs. We brought her to our regular vet, who took plain films that were perfect, and told us this was a "spinal issue" and "not good" ("not good" bedside manner, to say the least). We were referred to VSH to see neurology for further evaluation. We saw Dr. Tammy Stevenson, and I cannot say enough good things about her care. We were impressed on initial consult at her level of thoroughness, and how much time she spent with Luna. She made Luna feel comfortable with all of the examination equipment prior to conducting her exam, rather than just diving right in, and it made all the difference. Her symptoms and history did not seem to lead to an easy conclusion, so we started down the diagnostic route. We were presented with our options (and estimates) and we felt that we understood the different options well. The vet tech was wonderful too, although I am sorry I cannot remember her name! Luna went under anesthesia and had an MRI and CSF collection. The MRI showed a little something in her spine, but there were a few different differential diagnoses (some of which had no great follow up route). So we tried a course of prednisone to see if it would help with her symptoms. Luna had a super tough time tolerating the prednisone, and it ended up that the side effects were worse than the original issue (through no fault of Dr. Stevenson's, of course, as she could not have predicted this). I was very impressed by the level of phone responsiveness of the staff. Dr. Stevenson herself called us multiple times personally to check on her and see how she was doing. Try getting a human doctor to do that...Ultimately, we are not sure what is wrong with Luna, but she seems to be walking fine and has a great quality of life. Even though we don't have a definitive diagnosis, I can sleep better at night knowing there is not a huge tumor in her spine, she is not in pain, and that we have a reliable vet neurologist to return to should she have any more problems down the road. If you have a pup with neurological issues, please see Dr. Stevenson. She will make you and your pet feel comfortable through what can be a very difficult time! Thank you Dr. Stevenson and staff. When your vet refers you to specialist for your dog....you know it's serious.  Our 11 year old Boston Terrier was referred here for shortness of breath and coughing when his heart rate was raised. We saw Dr Hodge, he's a cardiologist.  Did an ultrasound and the did a chest tap to drain the fluid out of chest cavity.  Heart was normal for an 11 y.o. dog. But could see a suspicious mass in the lung area. Referred to internal medicine. Liked Dr Hodge and his assistant tech.Saw Dr Mallery next to do a pulmonary workup.  Did an ultrasound and found a 2cm mass in his lung. Did a lung mass aspiration and sent to the lab. Lab results were inconclusive.  So we don't know how good the sample was and I don't want to 2nd guess...Dr Mallery suggested the next step was to do ct scan and pay for a surgical team to stand by....surgey or lung removal never really improves quality of life so we opted out. Dr Mallery seemed ok, not as personal as Dr Hodge. His assistant tech wasn't as personal either. Decided to have our vet do the chest taps and drain the fluid as needed.  It's a little more affordable. We'll smother him in love do the taps as needed until the time comes. But it will be on his terms. Read Less

Been to a few different emergency hospitals in the area to give them a shot. This place was by far the worse. The front counter was fine, I filled my paper work and waited patiently. It took 15 minutes to just get my dog in, with no one else in waiting.Coming in the room the nurse was asking me the usual basic allergy, behavior type questions but then after doing her weight, gum, heart rate checks we waited an hour for the doctor to come in and she asked us everything all over even after the nurse had said she'd give the doctor all the info. After talking we agreed on x rays and pain medication. They went on their way with her saying maybe 30min wait. Another hour past. The doctor said they were waiting on further X-ray details, after another 30minutes in the room, a nurse came in with cost details, about other steps for the visit, we were unsure on the cost of it all and she left saying she'll bring  the doctor again. The doctor came another 45 minites later by the end we were so stressed we just agreed to get started. She then left told us to wait for a lady to sign papers another 40 minutes passed she came we signed they told us they'll call us to be back. At the front counter they tell us a higher price than what we signed off on she calls the back to see why we had a different quote. She then says this new price is the right one even though it doesn't match the paper work. I just move on pay the new price. They call later at night tell us to be there in an hour. We give them 15 extra minutes just in case. We get there and nothing's ready and we waited another hour and a half just to pick up the poor dog. We ask if everything is ok after waiting the hour and a half waiting patiently. The front counter nurse guesses two times at what the doctors are doing. Then instead she finalizes the payment and goes to check and he was already, ready to go.Also on a not too important note but they had hand sanitizers in all the areas and all were empty.Never going back.Check out California Veterinary Specialists in Carlsbad instead. Hands down the best group of staff around. My handsome man Franco passed away before the age of 3 because of cancer. When we had finally given up on his previous vet because they weren't giving us answers, I went to VSH and within 15 minutes they diagnosed him. At this point he was so sick he had to stay there a few nights, and I was devistated. However, If I had to leave him anywhere, this was the place to do so. Every single person that took care of Franco during those few weeks absolutely adored him, and every one of them touched my heart with how much they truely cared. They put up with my calling to check in on him every few hours, and spending a few hours loving up on him while he was in the ICU. Always made sure we were comfortable, and spent the time talking to us to make sure we understood everything. The day he crossed the rainbow bridge, they made sure it was as comfortable as it was going to get. We had a private room and we're able to spend as much time with him before hand as we wanted. Dr. Davis even laid down and cuddled him with us as he finally passed. My only regret is that I didn't go to VSH sooner, maybe it would have given me more time with my best friend. My dog has had so many health issues. It started 5 years ago with a dislocated hip from a freak accident, then moved through thyroid disease, a large tumor on her pituitary gland which was pressing on her brain, Cushing's disease, and skin issues. After her radiation treatments, I was told that the average lifespan was about 2 years, yet she is still with me and doing amazingly well, despite her age, after more than 3 years. Suki still visits with people in her function as a pet therapy dog, and is doing incredibly well. Thank you to Dr. Arnell, Dr. Pike and all the amazing staff. I'm so grateful!! Read Less

I have a lot of animals, and I've gone to a lot of incompetent vets (there are a lot, unfortunately). Veterinary Specialty Hospital and their amazing staff and advanced team of veterinarians are the BEST, most advanced specialists and surgeons in Southern California. I would literally trust them to operate on myself...they are that amazing. Dr. Akins did Patella Subluxation surgery on my 2 mini pins so they could walk again. Dr. Mallory treated my one cat for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and she lived another 1.5 years. The staff treated my other cat for mega-colon and she lived another 2 years. They even sent in a donation to a non-profit in her name after she passed away! That warmed my heart! And a few weeks ago, Dr. Stevenson saved my 3.5 year old dog's life by doing emergency back surgery on her when she suddenly became paralyzed. In 60 seconds, Dr. Wakeman knew exactly what was wrong with her! Some people don't understand that when you go to a real specialty hospital, it won't be cheap like other vets who have no idea what they are doing and usually tell you to euthanize your pet because they don't have the knowledge or tools to save them. This hospital (they also have another facility in Sorrento Valley) is top notch. The staff are professional, friendly, and they CARE about your animals. I actually took a loan out to save my dog's life, and it was worth every penny. They provided me with the paperwork to fill out and within 10 minutes I was approved for the loan! I was ecstatic! She has degenerative disc disease at only 3.5 years old and had a ruptured disc that had to be cleaned out, as well all the fragments. Dr. Stevenson then needed to drill a hole into one area of her spine to clean out 4 more discs because the chances were good the others might rupture, too. Trust me, other emergency animal clinics don't have the technology, skill or equipment like this advanced facility to do this type of surgery. My beautiful dog was literally walking right after her surgery. In two weeks, it's as if nothing had ever happened to her and she's enjoying life again with her brother and sister. Dr. Stevenson said she's doing fantastic and her results are phenomenal. No, Dr. Stevenson, you and everyone there are phenomenal!!! May God Bless you all for saving all my animals' lives and for the compassion you have for everyone's "kids." Thank you with all my heart! Read Less

These people are crooks. They charge you hundreds or thousands when you are the most vulnerable. Its worse than a funeral home. My vetenarian was so mad at them because their charges are exorbitant. They charged 68.00 to set up an IV and additional to administer. 42.00 for 2 units of insulin when a whole vial is 60.00 They also charged 42.00 for a dab of corn syrup to raise glucose levels. All said and done it cost 800.00 to treat a cat with low blood sugar. Do not go here unless you want to get screwed. We had to take our dog there 6 months ago and they charged 1000 for a lacerated paw which they didnt fix properly causing us to spend more at our vet the next day. They refused to let me chose treatment. I had to pay 250 for an x ray because its their policy to have a radiologist read the x ray off site. The only damage was a lacerated paw and the xray didnt show any fractures. They tried to tell me it was more expensive because digital xrays cost more. This is lie. Digital x rays are cheaper cause you dont need the wet dry chemicals to develop. These people are crooks!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! Read Less

We took our 4 month old kitten here after he injured himself while being underfoot.  Though they were understaffed, they were very friendly and professional.  The price for an xray was a little high,  but they did allow us to think it over for 24 hours without charging another office visit.   Plus,  they ARE a hospital that's open 24/7, so the prices weren't exorbitant for the service they have to provide.  We ended up going to our usual vet but points to VSH for calling to check up on our furbaby to make sure he got the medical attention that he needed. I'll always appreciate that VSH is open 24/7 and will be there for our kitten if he needs them. Read Less

The UC Davis Veterinary team also visits this veterinary practice a couple times a week and it makes it easier to schedule to get in to see the specialists. Even though we are south near Mission Valley we drove here for a pet emergency. It's very clean and professionally managed. The waiting room is large and comfortable. They even add extra special touches like coffee and snacks because sometimes you must wait a long while while your pet gets the care they need in the back. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. I feel completely comfortable recommending this emergency and specialty vet practice. Read Less

My dog kipper had to be put down unexpectedly. They are not our regular vet and it was late on a sat night. They told us to come right away and treated us so gently. First of all, they lit a candle to let everyone know that there was a pet being put down. They were all so caring. There was a very nice little room where we could take as much time both before and after. I got through it with all the TLC. I was floored when I got a sympathy card with a little note from all of the staff. It was so amazing and really touched my family. As an aside, the facility was high tech and beautiful. The rate for services was very reasonable. I will definitely be a customer when I get my new rescue puppy Read Less

They helped me and my family put down our beloved family dog who unexpectedly became ill with an aggressive cancer. The entire staff was extremely supportive and understanding as they walked us through our options. They gave me and my family as much time as we needed in private to say goodbye to our dog. Later, we received a hand written note from the entire staff sending their condolences lamenting our loss. We were later informed that they had made a sizable donation to a rescue group in our family's name. I've never been so touched and impressed by a display of professionalism and kindness from a buisness as I was with Veterinary Speciality Hospital. 5/5 stars. Read Less

I cannot say enough about the doctors and staff at this hospital. My dog Portland was 4 when I found out he had cancer. His tumor was on his face. Dr. Jackson did an job on removing the cancer and reconstructing his face. Dr. Burke is his oncologist, without him I would be a mess. He just now celebrated his 7th birthday and had an awesome checkup. There is no other hospital I trust more them. During the same time my dog was being treated, I lost my baby girl Sara, a black cat. Her doctor was so sweet and sent a sympathy card afterward. Everyone goes above and beyond what they are expected. The hospital has some of the most knowledgable and personable doctors and staff. I am forever grateful to the love and professionalism of everyone there. When you are going through such difficult times, you honestly can't put a price on that kind support.Read Less

Thank you to all the staff there, it means more than you'll ever know.Read Less

I'm currently sitting in the waiting room an HOUR from my house (as this was the first referred vet who had an oncology appointment). I've been sitting here for 60 minutes waiting to see if I even will be seen... AFTER a referral from my primary, faxing all information, a diagnosis from my primary, AND an appointment with the hospital. Erica at the front desk explained that the computer system messed up and didn't communicate my appointment, so I could check in and pay under emergency, but that the oncologist that my primary vet referred me to (and that I scheduled the appointment with), Dr. Flory, refused to see me even if I did go through emergency. I sit here with a cat with a carcinomatosis diagnosis, referral, and appointment an hour from my house. Absolute worst vet and customer service that I have experienced. Go anywhere else!

Read Less
