Unfortunately we just weren't happy enough with Dr Wilson to keep going here. I appreciated his experience but there was a lot left to be desired in how he communicated with us. I never felt like I always understood what was going on during our appts despite asking multiple follow up questions. All in all, a good vet for those who can connect with his communication style. Such WONDERFUL people at this hospital.  Really nice and clean clinic.  Kira, our dog, was completely relaxed and at ease (I was a mess).  They listened and we're attentive.  Didn't perform any tests that seemed random or out of the way, and by that I mean, they didn't take us for a ride like we had been at other vet clinics with previous dogs (a Redwood City clinic that is no longer in business).  Really reasonable rates and they really cared about my girl! We have had Crystal Springs Pet Hospital as our veterinarian for many years, first for our cat, then our dog. Both are gone now and we won't be getting more, so I thought I would write this review as our farewell and thank you to them. Dr. Wilson is very attentive, caring, and very calming. He was thorough and made sure our pets got everything they needed. Our pup had been a stray and was very skittish. He was very calming and delicate with her.  He took the time to explain things to us and was always very heartfelt. When he put our cat down, our three kids wanted to be there, and he made a difficult experience very comforting for us. Unfortunately our dog had cancer and had to go to a specialist so we weren't able to bring her to Dr. Wilson as much. The staff there is amazing as well, and very friendly. All I have to say is that I'm so happy I found Dr. Wilson. He is an angel. I took my cat in because she was having kidney issues and I wasn't happy with the constant mess up of the medications by VCA bay shore. He took the time to explain every single test result with me and listened to all of my concerns with so much patience. He is so incredibly sweet and made me feel so comfortable and at ease to know that my baby is in the right hands. I haven't felt this way for a long time. You get the feeling that Dr. Wilson was put here by a higher power to protect our furry friends, and I am not kidding. He is gentle, informative and pet loving. I always leave more educated about caring for my cat than I was when I arrived. Also- he is reasonably priced, so you don't feel hijacked upon departing. She suffers from a recurring upper respiratory infection and I put enormous trust in Dr. Wilson and his staff because of their professionalism and expertise. Dr. Wilson is actually cheaper than other vets in the area, because he has his own x-ray and surgical equipment.  Other clinics farm out their work to him, and consequently have to charge more for the same procedures.  If you want the best medicine available to your sick pet, this hospital is the first choice in the area--there are no newly-qualified vets at Crystal Springs Pet Hospital ordering expensive and arduous tests out of inexperience. There is just kindly Dr.Wilson here, a sharply competent diagnostician who actually likes animals, and likes them alive and not hurting. At Crystal, you don't have that sinking feeling when some hairy-fisted tech drags off Fluffy for a blood test--the techs are sweet, and Barb, the receptionist, keeps the appointments running smoothly.  And there is a BIG jar of candy bars in the waiting room. Dr. Wilson is one of the most caring vets I been to. He is also quite knowledgeable and will do additional research for you if he has any concerns.  I have found both he and his staff to be very sensitive and kind.  With that said their prices are expensive and his standard of care is very high.  This means if you want the best treatment for your pet and you don't care how much it costs they are a good option but if you need to set limits on what you are able to spend on your pet, they might not be the right place for you. Been taking my two dogs to Dr. Wilson for about two years on recommendation of a friend and am very happy with the care they receive here. Have had good experiences and solid advice. Dr. Wilson has taken the time to get to know our dogs and also whenever I call the office with questions I am always able to get good advice from their vet tech right away. Dr. Wilson is so kind.  My former vet retired and they people who took over just aren't the same.  I saw Dr. Wilson for the first time this morning and found out my former vet was his mentor!  He did a full exam on my senior dog and pointed out an issue that none of the other vets had noticed.  My dog needs to have surgery soon, so i am quite nervous, but i know that we are in great hands now.  Dr Wilson and his staff are wonderful.  And to top it off, he donates his time and services to a local organization i volunteer with.  Amazing!!! Dr. Wilson and his staff are professional, caring and fantastic! Make him your vet!!My basset hound lost a toe nail, and it was the bloodiest scene you could imagine- her entire abdomen was covered in dripping blood!  Truly a bad doggie horror movie of bloody paw prints into his office and into the examining room, too.Both he and his assistants were so caring, and took my pooch in immediately to take care of her. They were reassuring, and I knew I was in great hands (as was my baby girl dog).They kept her for a couple of hours, and when I came back to get her, she was wagging her tail, and her paw was solidly bandaged up. I was given antibiotics for her and received a follow up phone call the next day (on the weekend, when they are officially closed)  to check up on Daisy. That's my kinda service!Dr. WIlson has rewrapped the bandage twice (to keep it clean and uninfected) after a week, and she's been doing fine. I received immediate, excellent care in a crisis situation. I would highly recommend Dr. WIlson and his staff of knowledgable and very helpful assistants. I took my elderly dog to Dr. Wilson first in the spring of 2010 after a recent move. Dr. Wilson was excellent with her and the staff was very friendly. During the past three years, we have brought her biannually as she is a 70+ pound dog and in her geriatric years. She had to have a fairly minor surgery that required general anesthetic which scared me. Dr. Wilson assured me that she would be in good hands and after she left the pet hospital that day, Dr. Wilson called the next three or four days to check in on my beloved dog. All in all, Dr. Wilson and the staff were wonderful and although I just moved last month, I miss the Crystal Spring Veterinary Hospital and would highly recommend it. I have even jokingly considered driving my dog several hundred miles just to go to Crystal Springs and see Dr. Wilson. Read Less

I've been taking my cat to Dr. Wilson for several years.  I think he's very competent as is the office staff.  But as I've seen several other reviewers mention, I've felt that there has been an increasing emphasis on bringing in more $ than may be necessary for the animal's well-being.  For example, I brought my cat in because she's congested.  Dr. Wilson wanted to do a chest x-ray to see if she has asthma ($200) and when I asked what the treatment would be, he said an inhaler ($250).  The cat is 13 years old, nearly blind, and has arthritis.  I cannot imagine giving her an inhaler at this point in her life.  I declined treatment but was made to feel that I wasn't being very caring or responsible.  (As a side note, I brought her to another vet, got the x-ray, and she's being treated with oral medication.)  Dr. Wilson is a good vet; just be prepared to pay, and pay a lot, for your animal's care. He's also a good listener.The dental work he performed multiple times on my cats, including anesthesia, was flawless.I brought in two cats that I adopted from the Peninsula Humane Society. The exam was free. One of my cats soiled his carrier, which his staff cleaned in their bathtub with soap and water without asking. That was such a kind thing to do for me and my cat, especially since, again, the visit was free.I previously had elderly cats who spent quite a lot of time at the facility. Dr. Wilson used to drop in after hours to check on them. The staff loved my pets and were genuinely saddened to hear when they passed.If you're looking for vet that provides family-level care for your family members, this is the place. I've seen worse. Dr. Wilson is the best!  I have been going here for 7 years.  All 6 of my dogs (Diva, Daisy Duke, Murphy, Rosie (rip), Cherry,  and Crackers) have been with Dr Wilson.  He is super caring and knowledgable and even though Diva can be mean and nippy he loves her and she loves him and is super good.  All the staff is very helpful.  I read a lot of the other reviews and it saddens me that people complain about money when it comes to their pets.  Would you complain if your kid needed to see the Dr and it costm money?  Don't have a pet if you don't want to give them the best possible care, because that costs money.Sadly I have moved very far away and need to find another vet.  I am going to miss Dr Wilson and his staff...  But, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
