Vca San Mateo Animal Hospital

San Mateo, California
General Info
VCA San Mateo Animal Hospital offers services in San Mateo and California, emphasizing that the visits should replicate the stages of animal movement, namely preparation, exploration, pacing, and rest. The intake process is built around this rhythm. Pets have opportunities to observe from the lobby and room corners. During the initial sessions, ensure that appointments are conducted in a stable environment by setting up appropriate lighting and positioning, as well as adjusting the tone of your voice. Physical examinations follow an inherent order where the joints are checked before the mouth, and the fur is examined before the stomach. Caregivers need to document early morning activities besides resting respiratory patterns and appetite level changes. VCA San Mateo Animal Hospital has designed a program that places health markers to provide timely and adequate support. These include diagnostics-based injury recovery timelines, stress-conscious vaccine schemes, geriatric mobility suggestions, and personalized pain management recommendations. When a pet that takes part in the looping treatment begins to freeze and look away during exposure sessions, the treatment schedule must be adjusted. Procedures are scheduled based on the handling tolerance and movement recovery interval rather than in random order. Post-appointment, the families receive recommendations for appropriate next steps based on their pet’s decompression timeline. Some animals benefit from rewards like walks and gentle words, while others need isolation, warmth, or repetitive stroking. VCA San Mateo Animal Hospital emphasizes that post-care for caregivers is part of the clinical process and not just an after-care arrangement. VCA San Mateo Animal Hospital helps support anxious kittens and senior pets needing sensory adaptation while serving the broader San Mateo, California community for an interconnected care arc from dawn to evening reflection on animal life nature. The team also offers the following services: Allergy Testing, Avian (Bird) Care, Behavioral Counseling, Bloodwork, Boarding. Clients praise the practice for its dedication and the way it attends to pets’ needs.

My experience was nothing short of amazing. I cannot thank you all enough for welcoming my great dane and I to your office. You staff is amazing and doggie left feeling energized and well-cared for. This was a great experience and we will be back soon once we get settled for further treatment and wellness. Thank you for also helping me with questions and treatment options and alternatives. I'm new to the area and am grateful I stumbled onto this place. I'm very glad I chose this office to help establish a history here in California. Again, I am very appreciative of your efforts in making my recent visit less worrisome and I look forward to working with your office to help keep my senior doggie in optimal shape as he moves into his sunset years. He has literally been my best friend fort he past 4 & 1/2 years and I love him with all of my heart. I know now he is in good hands. Thank you again. Read Less

I don't like writing negative comments, but admit I now echo the last two reviews posted here. My family had been taking their pets to San Mateo Animal Hospital since the early '90's because of the vibe and the quality of doctors. Through the years, we've referred friends there as well. I recently returned there when I moved back to the peninsula having gone three times now, where last two visits the reception staff had given poor customer service particularly with discrepancies between services rendered vs. info given on phone. Although I'm able to accept miscommunication can lead to unfavorable outcomes at times, it was the receptionist's approach to the issues that now deems it unacceptable to warrant me another visit, (and further referrals). Both times, same person, same treatment: before finishing my question she continued to nod "No's", walked away, and didn't offer any sensitivity for the misunderstanding. I've taken my dog here several times and this was the place I called if I had a health issue with my dog. They've always been okay with regard to care, and prices. That said, I have not been to them for three years, and have heard their prices are higher now. Anyway, I was satisfied with them until I realized that they were sharing my personal info about my dog with outside agencies. I do not appreciate that and have changed my review from 4 stars to 1. The people there never told me my info was going to be shared with anyone. Trust is everything in establishing a relationship with a Vet. They lost mine. EDIT 4-24-16 I've just responded by email to the SM Animal Hospital's response (below). I am happy to give them a chance to explain how my dog's (and my) personal information came into the hands of an outside party right after coming there. It happened twice. Read Less

I had a friend warn me in advance the owner will nickel and dime the hell out of you when you go there. I had only had one experience with them and that's when I went to this hospital to put my kitty to sleep who had cancer. Obviously they can't mess anything up there since it's the end for my kitty. However, I did bring my new rescue in last week who has asthma. I knew he had asthma and they wanted to do 700 dollars worth of x-rays to substantiate my claim, which is fair. I have no problem with that. They wanted to keep my Ralphie for an hour to run the tests. I said I live a few blocks away and I'll come back in an hour. I was informed they would charge me 12.00 if I left my cat there for an hour. Really? You're charging me 700 to do x-rays on an issue I know my cat has and I can't go home for an hour.
