They are SO kind, and SO knowledgeable. I would give a million stars if that was an option. They took such incredible car of my 7 pound baby after she was chased out of a vets office by a big dog out of control dog that came bounding out of a waiting room before the door to the vet had completely closed, and then chased into the road and run over by a car. Thanks to them, my baby is fully recovered! Read Less

Nice and friendly staff. We brought our puppy early morning because she has been whining all night and has a bit blood in her urine. We learned that she might have urine track infection. The only thing to note if you are bringing a puppy who is not fully vaccinated is that they may treat a lot of sick pets, so be mindful about putting your pet on the floor. Read Less

I was referred here by my regular veterinarian Dr. Berkely, because my dog has severe skin problems. The office got me in within 24 hours with Dr. Wilson who is a dermatologist for animals. Dr. Wilson was very thorough, she went through my dogs medical records, plus listen to what I had to say, and treated me as well as my dog with the utmost respect. Dr. Wilson prescribed what I consider to be a very conservative and affordable treatment. Unfortunately, we will be going back for allergy testing when I pay off my care credit card. I've been to this hospital on several occasions and the care had been OK. This time, they rate a zero. My dog has an ear infection and I saw them last Sunday. After more than 5 days and spending more than $800, they still haven't called me back to give me the results of the culture and to prescribe the correct antibiotic for the infection. I've called several times, only to be told that the results are in, and the doctor will call me back, but here I am, still waiting. My poor senior dog is in pain, panting heavily, totally lethargic and has no appetite. He's suffering. I made an appointment with my regular vet; however, they also need the culture results. Good care includes adequate follow through and this hospital has none. In addition, their receptionist Vanessa is rude and ignored my concerns. Unfortunately, she is the gatekeeper you need to get past to speak with a vet tech or doctor. Don't go there. Use the emergency hospital in San Francisco or Rohnert Park. I've used both of those clinics and have been pleased with the care. Read Less

My little doggie Belle was in end stage kidney failure and started having weakness and an episode of falling down. My regular vet's office was closed. The plan was always no IV,tests etc. I kept her comfortable her last weeks. The plan for when her time came was to go to my vet for euthanasia but in an emergency it would be at PESC. Not the ideal since it would not be her regular vet and in an unfamiliar setting. It was 8pm /Friday night and I was expecting the clinic to be like it was 7 years ago, when I went to PESC when Belle was dehydrated. Back then it was basically 3-4 large rooms. WOW-now it is so nice. I am a nurse (RN) of 32 years with ER experience. I know you can wait for hours if the clinic is busy-pets are prioritized by the emergency they have . Staffing can be limited-there are sick calls, planned vacations etc.Health care for pets is costly-having pet insurance helps, We all set limits for what medical services we give our pets around what we can afford/ our love/and the medical problem ie broken bone vs cancer. When I arrived at PESC there was a staff member at the main desk and a waiting room full of pet parents . I explained to her  what was going on and she understood that  I was there to euthanize my little one. I was escorted back to the clinic area and within 10 minutes the vet came in  (Dr. Bowie) and we discussed my dog's medical history and how they would euthanize her. Dr Bowie was very supportive and caring, he was so gentle picking up Belle. I was then escorted to the room where they do the euthanizing after they placed an IV in Belle. The room was not an exam room. It had dim lighting, comfortable furniture and it was quiet. The nurse (the vet techs are called nurses-I like that) brought  Belle into me-they had placed/wrapped Belle in several warm fluffy blankets. I was given a button to push when I was ready for the vet to give her the medication. The staff frequently said take your time. After the vet gave her the injection I was able to stay in the room with her. The staff at PESC made a terrible experience-bearable. We are fortunate to have them in San Rafael.Operating a health care clinic is expensive even for pets. Yes there are medical personell who are in health care for the profit. But I know that the majority of heath care providers do not go through the years of training/expense/stress/long hours/insurance limitations and short staffing to make a profit-make a living -yes. Such a Sad experience I had at this place, I took my puppy there who is 9 weeks old, because of his size doctor was insisting he was only 4 weeks old, the saddest part is that he got parvo virus and the treatment was Insanely expensive so since I didn't have $2,000 dollars for each day my puppy will spend there and the treatment was 3-4 days the only opción they have me was to out him down immediately with they insist sooooo much that was the best thing to do , I refuse to give up on my baby and i drive 1 1/2 hour away to Walnut Creek to my previous Vet who told me my puppy had a 80% chance to survive the illness and so without thinking I took him there, now my puppy is stable and on his way to recovery! You will wait here for hours and receive over-priced "care". Please read the other reviews. The staff we dealt with made us feel unwelcomed. the entire time. We were up in Bay Area and had an emergency after hours with our baby so they were the only game in town. We called them, they said please come over we are not busy at all. 7 minutes later upon arriving we waited for 2 hours and there was literally no one in the lobby besides another couple who were waiting. When we asked why it was taking so long they provided no answer. I later found out from my friends and other reviewers they tell people all the time to come in even if they know they cannot see them in a timely manner. They are all about the money. That evening they were very poorly staffed I came to find out, there were no other major emergencies as we arrived so no cases jumped ahead of us. They were not rude, but completely indifferent. I understand they see a lot and perhaps they are desensitized. I'm not putting myself in their shoes, just sharing my experience. They also mentioned the bill to us several times so inappropriately while we are sitting there worried about our baby. As if we were not going to pay, making us feel like deadbeats.Once we were seen, the doctor came and I have nothing bad to say about her. She was very nice. Then they ran some tests and promised us the results within 3 days. 8 days went by and I called them and they informed me they had lost our sample and we needed to come back. What a total waste of time and money! They charged us nearly $400 for all of this and basically I received little to no care and they botched our baby's test altogether. Living in Huntington Beach we are not interested in coming up there to take them to small claims court. But I am glad we have this forum to warn others about our experience. If this sounds like the type of experience you like, by all means go there. Otherwise try your hardest NEVER TO GO TO PESCM. And to go to a normal daytime vet. If you need to go to an emergency vet after-hours, better to drive 15-20 mins into San Francisco and have competent choices for care. Read Less

I live in San Francisco with my 1 year old Cavalier and was referred to Dr Laura Wilson after she started showing some strange symptoms that could have been either neurological or ear related. Best referral ever. I'm the (overly) sensitive type when it comes to thinking about an animal in pain and from the minute you walk in the office you're in great hands. The staff is phenomenal, and their willingness to go so above and beyond when it comes to communication and thinking outside the box was not only impressive, it meant a lot to me and made me feel like I could take a deep breath because I knew my dog was in good hands. Dr Wilson has continued to answer every silly, paranoid question I have and it's really proven to be a big part of helping me figure out what's going on with my dog. A lot of this help was far outside of what she needed to do and it only further proved the level of care and compassion she has for both the pets and their owners. I would recommend her and the team any day of the week. Read Less

I could not be there the night we lost our family lab but knowing my fiancé was in such good hands made the whole situation more comforting. I wanted to add that we've received a letter from the Marin Humane Society, making us aware that PESCM  Doctors and Staff have donated in the memory of our sweet Mia. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making a contribution to the Humane Society in her name. We sincerely appreciate this so much.=====================================I hope that you never have to hear the words, "IMHA" (Immune Mediated Hemolyctic Anemia) when speaking about your beloved pet. After 2 months of weekly visits for blood tests and check ups to PESCM and visits with Dr Kaae, we had to euthanize our German Shepherd recently.  Heartbreaking is not even a word I'd use to describe what we experienced with her. The only thing I wanted to interject here is that we _sincerely_ regret taking the advice of our vets (here, and at East San Rafael Vet) and subjecting our sweet girl to a cocktail of steroids which literally destroyed whatever quality of life she had left in her.In retrospect, she could have had a few more months of life when she did not have to suffer as badly. Prednisone is HORRIBLE for their system. She may have lived a few weeks longer (who knows), but she suffered the effects of steroids.RIP sweet Miss Mia. These amazing experts saved our Rocky's life. Our miracle dog was near death with bacteremia and Dr. Kaae and the stellar team of Vets and Nurses used their expertise, compassion and dedication to save our boy. He has some residual problems however we are able to continue to love and spoil him until we can't. Marin County pet owners and Vets are fortunate to have this as a resource for emergencies and critical care issues. We benefited from the cardiac (Dr Drour)and ophthalmology (Dr. Zarfoss) specialists who consult at the Center. Dr. Kaae, a Board Certified Internal Medicine Veterinarian, provides stellar care and loving attention to the comfort and needs of the worried families. The other staff Vets were equally attentive and provided the 24 hour critical care that was necessary to save Rocky.  The nurses are highly skilled. As an RN, I witnessed their competencies with triage, clinical procedures, safety, medication management, comfort care, and discharge instructions. Their expertise reflects their area of practice and is evident in their professionalism and individualized nursing care. Hats off to the owners for ensuring that all areas of service are 5 Star including the front staff.  We had to opportunity to meet Dr. Bowie, one of the owners.  His mission and goal to provide emergency and urgent care and support our local veterinarians and pets is reflected in all that they provide.  I could go on and on about this amazing center however if you want more information, send me a message. Instead of calling my dog by her name, I could also call her Hoover...because that's what she does: she's constantly sniffing when we're outside for a walk. Well, I guess she's also a dog and that's a pretty common "defect" ;-)Anyways, one day she's at it again and all of the sudden she's having a sneeze attack that soon turns bloody. Fortunately, I was with my dog trainer at the time who mentioned that she'd probably sucked a foxtail up her nose. That, she told me, is a pretty common, but quite ugly scenario, as the foxtail has little barbed hooks that allow for the little thing to only travel in one direction: up the nose!As it was a Sunday - obviously my little Hoover couldn't choose a weekday for this to happen - I quickly took her to the 24 Emergency Vet in San Rafael. Everyone was super friendly there and although the wait time was quite long, I was feeling well-taken-care-of the entire time. Eventually the doctor looked at my dog and she assessed the situation with me: she said that she couldn't be sure whether or not this was a foxtail that caused the bleeding, but there was a good chance. She also informed me about all the risks and also about the costs, which I think was great as this was an ER visit after all.I eventually asked them to perform the procedure which consisted of a technician sedating the dog and using a special tool to dig for the intruding object. As it was a busy Sunday - probably many foxtail incidents - they couldn't quite tell me when they would be able to execute it, but that they will call me around 9 or 10pm that evening. And sure enough, they did: I went back to hospital and the nurse handed me what looked like a test-tube: in it was a bloody foxtail that they'd pulled out of my dog's nose! All in all the bill came to roughly $600. Not cheap, but honestly I'd expected much worse. Read Less

Great service from this pet hospital! We brought our puppy here after visiting a few other vets in order to get a third opinion.  We were referred to this vet by a family member's coworker. Our dog was brought in for a consultation and his surgery took place the same day! They were nice enough to waive the consultation fee and we were quoted $4300 on the low end and $5400 on the high end for a femur surgery. Much more in line than the other estimates we've received. Our vet nurse Valerie was extremely helpful and seemed genuinely interested in the care and well being of our dog. Thank you to our surgeon Cheri Nielson who was able to bring our dog back to full health :) Side note--super clean facility and overall friendly staff! Read Less

This is a terrible place to bring an animal if you need to see someone within 45 minutes. I was there with my dog who was having neurological problems. The girl at the desk took my name etc. I sat down with the dog and waited. There was no one in the place but me. I asked the girl at the desk when someone would please see me. Reply "they are taking care of the dogs in the back". Lucky for me my Vet was due to be in his office at 8am. After 45 minutes of no interest in helping me or my dog I left and drove to my regular Vet. He was there and took me right away and administered the drugs to help my dog. He is wonderful. Dr Frye. Try him, at least you dont have to wait until something terrible happens because of lack of interest in helping your pet as the Pet Emergency did the morning of a Saturday when no one was there but me. So much for being an emergency place to go. CR Read Less

I had to put my 15 year old dog down on 4/7/2015. Putting down a pet no matter how long they have been in your life is a very hard thing to go through. The vet and all the nurses went above an beyond to make sure it wasn't any more painful for either me or my dog. There were quite a few things I really appreciated. The first one was anytime they took her out of the room they brought her back to me ASAP and put her in my arms, they picked up on the fact that I didn't want to let go of my dog so that was incredibly helpful and important to me. Secondly I was given the option to be there when she passed and I took it. They moved us to room 1 and let me say my good byes for as long as I needed and when I was ready to let her go I pushed a button and the vet came in, explained to me very calmly what she was going to do and what responses my dog might have to the injections. The vet was amazing! Then after my dog past the vet gave me time to say goodbye again and a few minutes later I pushed the button again and a nurse came in and she treated my dog as if it was her own. I couldn't ask for a better experience during such a hard time. Even the receptionist was so sweet and caring. Read Less

I really can't say enough about these guys..... their bedside manner and patience is exceptional... they see so much emotion day in and day out, and they manage people's sad moments really well. The waiting room is huge, and inviting, with a great coffee machine (not that it matters when it comes to your loved one). But they are affordable, available, and really care. They even gave a bevvy of options in what to do for our little pup who banged up his nose, and let us schedule a follow up appointment, while allowing us to cancel it last minute without hassle or fees. It's really rare. I sort of don't want to have to go back, because it means it's an emergency... but if I have to, from vet care, emergencies and even hospice help and counseling.... they've got me for life. Thanks guys! Read Less

Read Less

We miss you terribly and will love you until we see you again. Read Less

I've been here a few times and have always had a good experience. The doctors have been thorough and helpful. I don't feel the cost is that much higher than a regular vet visit. They always explain the cost prior to anything being done. Wait time is hit or miss. When my dog ingested rat poison on Christmas Eve last year, they took him right in. It's great they put priority to emergencies. Last night I was there on a not so emergency and I waited 2 hours. But it was worth not having to worry about it all night and dealing with it this morning.  I hope to frequent it less for sure!...but I'm so happy this place is near home. Read Less

They have save the day for us many times (well, ok, saved the night - because our dogs seem to save emergencies for nighttime :) I can't say enough about how kind, caring and efficient they are. Watching the Vet's and Tech work and handle everyone's fears, and anxiety is marvelous. Even on a busy night, the wait time is less than a human ER - and the care is top notch. I've brought several loved ones there over the past 8 or 9 years and have nothing but praise. Thanks for always being there!! Read Less

Read Less
