I was a client at this vet for over 12 years. My dog had gone through many treatments and diagnosed with various illnesses. Lets just say $$$$$ wasted. This last fall he had to be admitted into emergency where to find out he was basically barely making it and placed on oxygen for two days along with medicine. When the specialist did their magic, I found that my dogs medical issues were being treated incorrectly by terra Linda vet and in which if continued would lead to his death. I am on the right path now with amazing help who answers all my questions and have strong opinions about what he needs. He is now spunky and acts like a young pup. No more "maybe" or "possibly or "we won't know until..."When I was at terra Linda they would throw out options or "lets try this". And the "cough" he had that led to him to fainting bc his heart was slowing down...ya it wasnt chronic bronchitis that you diagnosed him at when he was 2 years old.  On top of all of that, they haven't once called to check "hey, where has our little friend been?" Most of their staff seems unhappy. They complain to eachother and the best ones left. Staying their was a mistake and I am angry I didn't listen to all the people around me telling me to get out. What a great experience!  We are treating my sweet pup for a torn knee ligament. Dr. Michelle Rose gave the most thorough examination, was extremely knowledgable and very friendly. My dog loved her. We are getting laser treatments on my dog's knee and it was an amazing and gentle process. Dr. Rose was such a wonderful vet. Feeling very blessed that we found her to help us heal our pup's injury. Great first visit today! My little kitten needed to be seen. They were able to see us right away, same day. I found the staff to be genuinely sweet towards me and my cat. Dr. Andrew Lee was very good with us as well. I felt very taken care of, and found the price to be very reasonable. I plan to continue taking my baby here. Very knowledgeable as well. Took our dog for a nail trimming, and anal gland cleaning. The whole process was surprisingly quick, about 10 mins. The young lady came back out with my dog, and his nails are super super short, with a yellow solution on 5 of his nails, which I'm guessing is the "quick stop." 2 nails on each rear paw, 1 nail on his left front paw, and 1 on his right front paw. I asked if he bled, the front office/vet tech young girl replied with a simple "yes" and asked for my payment. I know must groomers cut at the quick, or just a bit past the quick. My dog nails were cut way past the quick! To whoever manages this clinic please provide some proper training to your techs. In the same way, it's a veterinary not a retail store. TLVH takes care of both of our pets....they have been more than helpful on all fronts and area always willing to take a phone call from a worried pet owner like myself when something seems a bit off.  Also it is great that they are associated with the boarding facility behind them so all our records for vaccinations are easily accesable for them.Overall great service and very convenient. Uniformly positive experience for both myself and the dog*. The entire staff seems caring & knowledgeable, scheduling is easy, and costs are reasonable. At one point, a relatively low-priority surgical procedure was recommended, and there was absolutely no pressure to have it done, or done at TLVH -- or any resistance whatsoever about getting a second opinion, or access to the medical records to do so. Quite the opposite. (See also my review of the excellent Codornices Vet Clinic in Albany, who agreed that the diagnosis was warranted).I can only speak for myself and of course don't mean to deny another's experience... but I've never seen anyone (person, patient, or staff) experience rudeness or other ill-treatment at TLVH. Getting (and giving) medical care for loved ones, no matter their species, can be stressful and expensive. If other reviewers felt a single-star review was actually merited, I truly hope they found the treatment they were seeking elsewhere.For my part: nothing but praise for Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital. We just moved to the area and I wanted to find a before my two doggies. I always try to find AAHA accredited vets/clinics because it gives me some peace of mind to know that the clinic adheres to standards of care. I was happy to find this place right down the street from us.Took the doggies in today and was very pleased with my visit. The ladies in the front were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Davis was very patient and helpful. My dogs were also very comfortable with her. All in all, we had a great visit and I feel very good about this clinic! Read Less

I was shocked to read the negative review of Dr Martha Davis.  I totally disagree with the reviewer. I have been bringing my dog to her for several years and have always found her to be highly compassionate, understanding, totally ethical and she has provided the best possible care for my dog.  Fees have always been explained to me before they were incurred and there have been several times when she has provided options that resulted in lower fees.  I don't know what actually happened to that reviewer, but if there is any truth in the review then it must be a once in a million bad experience because Dr Davis has the highest reputation with her clients. If you pay too much attention to that one review it'll be your loss - she is an outstanding vet and a very ethical, person with high integrity. Read Less

*You will notice that this is the only negative review I have ever written.*  As a client who once (and only once) had my dog "treated" at Terra Linda Vet Hospital for a regular "preventive" check-up, I feel I must warn any and all pet owners.  It appears to me that Dr. Martha Davis cares for little more than money and her ego.   I am confident that her Veterinary skills are adequate, but her business ethics more than disturb me.   After my personal experience I read other reviews from people who have been "extremely" overcharged, and who feel that Dr. Davis "pushed" (she would say, "suggested") up-sell treatments on them, and made them feel guilty for not adhering to her suggestions.  Some go so far as to state that Dr. Martha Davis was downright rude to them.   This sound pretty accurate to me.  Let's be honest, this is Marin - she can get away with charging 2 or 3 times what is reasonable.    The single experience that I can personally attest to is that our routine treatment was at least twice what I would have paid my "regular" vet... and well over a thousand dollars of up-sold "care" were very strongly suggested (read "pushed") to me.   Let's talk about the rudeness and respect:  while at her office I personally witnessed the immense disrespect with which Dr. Davis treated more than one member of her staff, so the rudeness towards numerous noted customers doesn't surprise me.    All said, just be careful.   You have options - there are more caring, family-oriented, skilled and definitely less expensive alternatives. I highly recommend  Dr Rose and Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital!  I started taking my 11 yr old Boxer, ReRun, to this practice last September. They were recommended to me by a client of their's whose dog went there for cold laser therapy. The laser treatments that Dr Rose performed on ReRun, increased his mobility and decreased the pain he was suffering from his degenerative arthritis to the extent that he rarely needed medication.  We have since moved to Southern California, where we have continued his laser treatments. We have found the results to be inconsistent here, and miss Dr Rose, (a DVM rather than a technician), treating ReRun. She even takes the extra precaution of putting protective goggles (or "Doggles"), on ReRun's eyes during treatment. Additionally, I really appreciated how she had a large, memory foam dog bed in the treatment room, so the dog receiving treatment is comfortable and relaxed. It also prevented him from falling down on a slippery surface, which happened a few times at one of the practices we went to in Southern California.  Dr Rose goes above and beyond for her patients and for their human parents, and I can't wait to take ReRun back to her when we move back to Marin later this year! Dr. Davis and Lauren, Maia, and Alan () have treated my dog, Harry, with such thoroughness and care that I never worry about taking him there. I have also heard good things about Dr. Rose and other staff members who I have not yet met. I have taken my past () dogs there before I adopted Harry. I have also boarded Harry at their newly remodeled boarding facilities, Tails of Terra Linda and also really am happy with his care there and the staff. He has been there for a few days/nights and even just over night. When I picked him up both times, they let me know how he was and how he handled being away from me/home. They also provide day care, and I've seen dogs brought in for those services who seem happy and excited to be there. I definitely recommend both the veterinary care and boarding facilities they offer. Read Less

Our 6 year old Shih Poo puppies have lived in 8 homes with us and experienced may Vets all over the Bay Area. We have now settled in San Rafael and couldn't be happier with Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital. The staff are all very friendly and professional, our puppies love going there. Dr. Martha Davis has provided exceptional care for our last Senior "Muttville Adoptee" dog Daisy and our present lovely dog Winston. Winston, while he doesn't like being with a Vet, seems to settle in as Dr. Davis palpates his organs, talks "dog talk" to Winston, and eases and questions me. We recently took our cat in for a quasi-emergency visit after a several year absence. We got in right away & Dr. Davis and the staff were quite welcoming & helpful. I've worked with Dr. Michelle Rose since I loved to the bay area and can't say enough about her - her advice is straightforward, honest, and trustworthy. The support staff know my dog's name when we arrive, appointments are kept, reminders and all the electronic wizardry surround the experience (billing, reminders, appointment reminders for future treatments) is perfect. Over 10 years ago, we moved up to Marin from San Diego. Before we left, we searched for a vet to board our pets (5 cats and a dog) while we moved into our rental home. Terra Linda Vet had a website and a phone number -- and a staff member (Maia!) who was willing to come back and open up for us if we got here late. Dr. Davis and her staff gave us such good care then, we decided we didn't need to look for a different "forever vet." And we haven't been disappointed, ever. Through health and illness, and even the deaths of 5 of our animals, we have received the most competent, caring attention and medical service that we could imagine. Seemed fine at first. Front desk was friendly. There was one girl that I didn't care for. She showed no sympathy or compassion ever and I didn't like the way she talked to me. Mainly though I wish Martha Davis had been more honest about my cats chances of living before hundreds of dollars were spent on abdominal taps and other things. I finally had to come in and ask if she thought things were going to get better. The bottom line was no so I made the decision to put my cat that I'd had for 16 years to sleep. That morning my cat was in good spirits and talkative like usual but when I came by to check on her she looked depressed, was quiet, and wouldn't look at me. I wish I had made the decision right then to put her down before they ran more tests on her and stuck her full of more needles. It seemed like Martha was trying to do everything she possibly could even though my cat would not survive. At my cats age and weight she would not survive surgery. Martha was friendly and did show sympathy though which I appreciated. I would have appreciated more honesty though. It would have saved me and my cat a lot of pain plus a few hundred dollars.
