Dr Larned is kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. We brought our aging dog in who had declined rapidly and her recommendations were reasonable and gave me peace of mind for an inevitable decision to come. She also discussed cost with me before we made any determination on tests or treatments. When the time came, Dr. Larned made an extremely difficult decision manageable for my family and was wonderful with all of us. I will recommend this Clinic in the future and continue to use her for my other dogs. Read Less

We discovered Dr. Larned's wonderful practice when we moved to Santa Barbara a few years and needed a veterinarian for our beloved, elderly dog. We tried another clinic that recommended a lot of expensive and (to my mind) unnecessary tests. Then we found Dr. Larned. She has been terrific about helping us navigate the challenges of aging on behalf of our pet. When we bring our dog in, she listens carefully to us and then gently examines him. Often she recommends simple changes in diet or medications we can get over-the counter. When she suggests testing, there's always a definite purpose and she always explains it clearly. She seems very knowledgeable about recent developments in veterinary medicine, but she's also deeply grounded in compassion and common sense. Over the years, we've had a lot of dogs and we've seen a lot of vets. Dr. Larned is one of the best! Read Less

We went to Artemus when we first got our puppy at the pet shop next door. We were one of her first clients and stuck with her for the 15 years our Australian shepherd mix was alive. When the day came to put our beloved family pet to sleep, she was caring and comforting and could tell that she enjoyed watching our little pup grow old. I just moved back in town with a seven month puppy of my own and plan on visiting Artemus for his future veterinary needs. Read Less

I decided to come to this place, only because I liked the idea of having one consistent doctor to look after my aging dog. Upon arriving for my first visit, I was greeted kindly by the receptionist, who brought me straight into the exam room. The room was rather small and stuffy, but luckily a fan was on. The doctor, Dr. Larned, shortly came in and was very nice and welcoming. I began telling her some symptoms that I had noticed and without a thought, she quickly recommended a blood test, suggesting that it was probably the best way to get a clear diagnosis. I thought maybe she knew what was best, so I agreed. At this point, everything seemed to have gone well. My questions were answered and she even began prescribing some medications to see if it would help alleviate some of my cat's symptoms. The receptionist began telling me my total amount, which went over $250. I was shocked and asked why exactly did the exam cost so much. She explained that the blood test was over $200 itself.  As to why the doctor failed to mention the price of something so expensive, I do not know.  My salary isn't very high, so of course money is tight. If I had known the price, I would have gone for a second option, possibly a cheaper option. The only reason as to why I am giving this a one star is because of what I found out through my daughter has a friend, who is a veterinarian. After describing my dog's symptoms, and telling the doctor of Dr. Larned's suggested course of action, my daughter's friend informed me that it would have been wiser to get a second opinion, because the blood test was unnecessary! It was the first time I was explained to that some vets sometimes suggest unnecessary procedures that don't harm the animals, but cost a good sum of money. Kind of like a quick way to get a lot of money from clients. Even though I only visited once, I don't think I will ever return. I advise anyone who is getting blood drawn or anything expensive done, to get a second opinion first. Don't be drawn in too much by her friendliness. I think she only wants your money. Read Less

If I could give negative stars, I would.Extremely poor customer service, over the phone.Unclear information, unclear communication about Clinic policy. $35 refill on pet prescription whether you get one pill, or 100. (and they do not tell you this until after you have paid).Would not accept information and blood work sent over from another local vet. Extremely unhelpful and would not rectify a bad situation caused by poor communication on their part. I had been a customer for almost 2 years, and will not be going back, nor will I recommend this practice to anyone.  Take your pet elsewhere. Read Less
