Short Version: If you do not want to risk your cat's life, do NOT see Dr. Pruett! (This is not meant to speak ill of the practice as a whole, but simply to advise you that there are far better vets out there - who won't be responsible for your pet's DEATH - than Pruett.)Detailed Version: I read the reviews before taking my kitty Sylvia and decided the few bad ones were outweighed by the good ones. I figured the negative reviews may have been written by those people who only see the negative everywhere they go. I WAS WRONG!!!! My cat was NO WHERE CLOSE to being on her death bed when I took her in FOR A CHECKUP, but 28 hours after her visit, she passed away.My Sylvia was 16 years old and aging -- I was not immune to that. She and I moved last year from Texas to Santa Barbara, and since the move she has lost weight, and I know she did not love living in a non-air-conditioned apartment. A couple weeks ago I decided that it was time to get her checked out and see what we could do to make her last couple of years the best they could be. I decided on this clinic because IT IS SPECIFICALLY FOR CATS! I figured I wouldn't find a vet who knew more about what they were doing -- it's crazy how far from the truth I was!Sylvia wasn't in perfect health -- we found that she had a hyperactive thyroid, a UTI, and had fleas (which I was not proud of). Pruett gave us a couple medications and told us to come back in three weeks to make sure they were the correct doses. In case I haven't made it clear, I know she wasn't in perfect health, but SHE WAS NO WHERE NEAR DEATH when we went in (nor when we left that first day). She always got around just fine and was her happy (albeit senior-aged) self. The day after I took her in, she couldn't get up to use the bathroom (completely opposite of how she'd ever been!) so I rushed her back. Pruett had given her some fluids the day before and they apparently were sitting in/on her lungs. Pruett felt like Sylvia's heart couldn't take it (yes, Sylvia had a heart issue -- the paperwork identifying this WAS FAXED FROM HER PREVIOUS VET TO DR. PRUETT THE DAY I INITIALLY TOOK HER IN!!! I too wrote this on her patient history form. APPARENTLY THIS INFO WAS OVERLOOKED/NEGLECTED/NOT TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION) and "we'd see if she made it through the weekend." WHAT?!!? I BROUGHT MY CAT IN WITH SOME PROBLEMS FOR YOU TO HELP US OUT WITH, BUT SHE WAS NO WHERE NEAR DEATH!!! I brought her home, and a few hours later she passed. I surprised myself with how devastated I was. Angry with Pruett's "work" doesn't do justice to how I felt (I'm writing this a week later....had to allow my emotions to get under control). This woman was supposed to be an expert, and instead of helping my cat, she did the opposite! I understand that I didn't bring her a "perfect slate" to work with, but HER JOB is to identify issues and fix them. If an animal is near death and there's no "fixing" to be done, that's one thing (this wasn't that). It's a whole other story when an animal comes in in decent health, and the things you do to them bring on their sudden death. I met with Dr. Sellers (who owns the clinic) a day later -- I wanted the near $500 I'd paid Pruett back (though it wasn't about the money -- it was about her LIFE!) and I wanted to visit with her (Sellers) about what had happened. Without question, she fully refunded my money. I was/am appreciative, but I can't help but wonder if this was because she knew wrong had been done, and this was the easiest way to appease me and keep me from taking this further. (I am not an expert, but I am pretty certain this could have been a mal-practice case...I do not however have the money nor the energy to take it there.) Sellers was receptive to my questions and comments and I do believe took me seriously. She didn't feel like the fluids were the issue, but just everything that Sylvia went through in her exam the day before caused her heart to overdo itself (either way, Pruett did not take into account the specifics of the patient in front of her, and that oversight is what took my cat's life). I cannot speak to the care that Dr. Seller's gives her patients and their owners. Again, this review isn't meant to speak poorly of her or her practice, but it is meant to warn you about the care her partner gave to my cat. I fully understand my situation is probably not common, but it happened, and if you care for your pet the way I cared for mine, I would highly advise you not to seek care from Dr. Pruett.(It hardly seems important to mention after everything else, but my review isn't complete if I don't share that Dr. Pruett was rude from the minute I walked in. It was something close to arrogance, but not quite. If she'd helped my cat, I'd be grateful, but would not have been a fan of her personality. Unfortunately such isn't the case. I have wondered several times if I caught her at a "bad time." Bad enough to cost my cat her life.) Read Less
